    Thank you PHARRAWAY for explaining the intricacies / reasoning behind choosing the proper supplies needed for quality body preparation for refinishing, grew up hearing the phrase: "The difference between a good paint job and a bad one is approximately 6 months. A good job will look the same, a bad one fades and crumbles making you dread future decay.

    I used a electric sander bought last year today a Bauer one but my air sander seems better to me just the air compressor use is about 27 or 29 gallon shuts off a lot but now I see the air sander is better to me I sanded a lot of the vehicle today though with the electric sander though used 400 grit that is what the paint am gonna use Starfire said to use. Gonna use a glamour high solids clear which never used a high solids clear yet. But bought the acid cartridges and the came today was using them when was sanding the vehicle. I have the charcoal cartridges too but they are on my other 6800 respirator. The other 6800 respirator used when was using Bondo and still smelled it I don't know if the cartridges are getting old because used them when painting last year my truck. Still gonna paint it this year again it just didn't come out right as the other truck had before that only been painting for almost two years but only paint to about October in Michigan because I don't have a heater in garage the right one so could paint the hole year and it gets pretty cold here next week be 80 though but still probably won't be painting maybe to June again plus a lot of stuff in garage but there will be garage sale this year half the garage full of stuff it two car garage though. Might end up going to Texas again to see my brother again if my other family members go went by myself last year on a plane it was in April I know it's really hot now where he lives now. Only went there like once in 10 years though I actually rather go out west now and look for gold my sister lived out in California and haven't went out west since 2007 she died that year of cancer.

    Nice job, informative. One thing I find interesting is the absence of 120#. When I learned body & paint back in the 70's, and even to this day (on the very rare occasions I do it anymore) I always found 120# (or 150# if I couldn't find any) to be indispensable between 80# to 180#. Actually it was rather indispensable for lots of things. Seems like quite a jump without that go-between grit, curious as to why you make such a big jump and don't use 120# between 80 and 180. I mean, you obviously know what you're doing so whatever works for you is fine so I'm not knocking, just curious. Also, back in the day we always considered 320# as the minimum fineness before painting enamels (and 600# for lacquers). I see you go the extra route to 400#. Nothing wrong with that of course, my question is, won't a sealer cover 320# scratches okay?

    • @PHARRAWAY
      @PHARRAWAY  3 года назад

      Hi brother yes things have changed I use to use the 120 but found out that it's not necessary so that jump cut 1 step out, anything to do the job quicker

    Ok so I thought I was pretty well versed on this subject but recently ran into some problems have a car that had a bad paint job and 80 percent of the clear has fallen off so I'm trying to sand the remaining little specs off and was using 400 what I thought would be best but before removing clear it starts removing base coat and primer so now I'm wondering should I use courser so I don't spend so much time in one area or what and also how to know when you're through the clear.

    Clear as mud. "Use 320 on a pristine vehicle, and you're ready to go." Ready to go with what, primer? Paint? What? But wait -- "then you need to use the 400 to get rid of the 320 sanding scratches." What? What happened to 320 being all you need? No wait, there's more -- "use the 600 to get rid of the 400 sanding scratches." Huh? And on it goes. Everyone knows that finer grits will get rid of courser sanding scratches. What people need to know is what grit to use in exactly what situation.

    • @PHARRAWAY
      @PHARRAWAY  3 года назад

      the primer sealer is just a primer that you apply when you have different color panels, you need all panels to be uniformed so that the paint job is uniform and much easier to apply . The 2k primer is the same as primer surfacer it will do the same function to level out your body work and and aliment light sanded scratches
