This guy is priceless. What a complete gentleman with a plethora of one liners. The whole interview is one funny line followed by an even funnier one and the dude isn't even trying. I think I'd piss my pants & be spitting out drinks just hanging out with this guy. He's awesome!
xdddaaxxdd Oh it's true. Heard it from one of his interviews. I just can't remember the University. But I think it's Oxford. He had to decide to stay in school or be a rock star. He chose wisely in my opinion. But I get what you mean about his voice and the way he talks, but the English study has something to do with it. He also worked at McDonalds believe it or not.
"burn the evil out...this is where the filth comes from...adequate amounts of meat..gaping head wound.. cheapest, nastiest pedal of the bunch.." Guthrie is an articulate guy
I just love this guy. His intellect and wit always catches me by surprise. He also uses sarcasm like spices he stirs into the stew. Really enjoyable character.
He did go to Oxford for an english major I think, and he used to read a ton of books since he was three. One would expect him to be well acquainted with the language
Rebecca Dirks knows her stuff. She asks the right questions and knows what she wants to get out of the interview. Very mature interviewer. Props to you ma'am.
Grimm1337 putting effects into the front of the amp means they cxxome before the preamp (where the amps tone is generated) the effects loop is after the pre amp, but before the power amp (where the power comes from) the reason for some effects going into the effects loop is generally that in situations where preamp gain is used, time based effects such as delay, flanger, reverb etc. Sound better because its easier to effect a distorted tone than it is to distort an effected tone, hope it helps.
3:30 Best description ever of frets: "They are joyous things to behold". To come up with that on the spot following the interviewer's remark ("they're nicely shined up there") underlines Guthrie's mastership of improvisation. It's all about question and answer!
The fact that he has muscle memory for instantly tuning the E string to D and vice versa PERFECTLY was fairly mind blowing to me. He’s like a guitar-playing AI. It’s insane
I bet every (by her interviewed) guitarist remembers Rebecca Dirks. She is/was the perfect interviewer for top notch guitarists, with all the knowledge or research beforehand. Just the way she loosened up Guthrie here with detailed questions, nearly beyond his knowledge about his signature guitar, made him comfortably enough to nerd out about his pedals. Great job!
He looks like the type of man who will write a thesis on something artistic and intelligent, then drink a glass of fine wine afterwards and then play an amazing guitar lick and melt everyone's faces with it.
He has such a radio friendly voice. I could imagine him telling me there is a traffic jam on the M1 or introducing a classic rock show at about 5 in the evening on a Sunday.
@@fdfsdfsvsfgsg4888 I do, because I'm not a bald headed sack of crap that plays a Gretch......Horribly. I have heard cats puking up a hairball and that was more musical than your rubbish playing.
He uses Zig Zag. I happen to know this because I caught him outside of a tiny club in Omaha before The Aristocrats played. He was rolling English tobacco that I didn't recognize, but using Zig Zag papers.
it's funny how he makes her laugh with the egg frying joke and then she looks at the camera guy like "ok sorry, I'll try to contain myself" but that was a great rundown! I like how she really gets into all the detail about the wood and the pick and such...
not on electric instruments i have made test s indeed. im a guitar builder myself (7 years of) and i can tell you if is in a solid body remember every wood (not matter the species) are curated, baked and put in different... if we are talking about Hollow, Semi Hollow or Acoustic is another case because they react to dynamics
Proto Razor What kind of guitar builder are you? Build a guitar out of maple and then build one with the exact same specs, but made out of mahogany.,....... if you can't hear the difference, you shouldn't be "building" guitars. And what were your tests?
People really need to know the difference on electric instruments to acoustic ones for real.... and i have no chambered test but i would tell is close to a hollow guitar it could change a little bit the tone but noting noticeable that for sure
"It makes me sound like a duck...which I enjoy". Looks at the chick dead in the eye with a straight face.
Kevin Rivera I
And a quick glance at the rack :D
This is Guthrie's "Monty Python behavior"
This guy is priceless. What a complete gentleman with a plethora of one liners. The whole interview is one funny line followed by an even funnier one and the dude isn't even trying. I think I'd piss my pants & be spitting out drinks just hanging out with this guy. He's awesome!
If Govan wasn't a guitarist he would narrate nature programs. Damn, he should probably still narrate them!
Figures, He was an English major at Oxford or some shit. He almost went the academic route.
That's awesome if it's true, man! I was referring more to his excellent narrating voice, though.

Yeah it's Oxford, I just checked on Wiki. Pretty funny.
There's a lot of rock dudes who'd do the same. Like James Hetfield reading fairytales...
As many times as he's gone over this, it never gets boring. What an amazing guy.
Joyous things to behold.
+daniel moore
Talking about frets! He's great.
+daniel moore Yeah one of the best Guthrie-isms.
+MichaelD8393 "egg frying background noise"
Stratcat And also "This........sounds expensive"! when he first turns on the chorus.
***** "I should explain the general philosophy of this pedal board"
His tones are ridiculously gorgeous and innovative. He's got a great sense of humour.
Omair Sheikh this guy isn't human, even his sense of humor isn't human
He's British. :D
"They are joyous things to behold" I love his mannerisms.
8:22 Guthrie "This"....turns on chorus pedal, strums chord...................."Sounds expensive"! Very classy way to describe a chorus pedal.
only a Brit would use a tea tray for a pedal board, magic!
His signature "Earl Grey" Pedal board?😂😂😂
C'mon! You can be the one to boost the likes for this comment to 100. You know you want to !! ☺️
6:08-6:13 Gotta love the way Guthrie navigates through this. "But enough of this... let us move on to my other devices" fuckin smooth
they're meant to sound like turtle shell, but you don't need to kill anything, which is "groovy man"
+Andrew Suzuki "It pleases him!" haha Also I have to ask, whats that there on your breadboard?
✌
did i just hear guthrie play a RATM riff? life is complete lol
He did lol
Killing In The Name
the best RATM song of all time, hence it's no.1 in top 10 RATM songs by WatchMojo
He played the whole of Bulls on Parade with Dizzie Rascall a few years ago.
AJD OLD CHANNEL ARCHIVE I prefer Bulls on Parade to Killing in The Name, mainly because of nostalgia.
And then the tapping lick he did kinda sounded like something from Mega Man
4:38 "I should explain the general philosophy of this pedalboard"
I love him :D
9:47
That's what she said.
"burn the evil out...this is where the filth comes from...adequate amounts of meat..gaping head wound.. cheapest, nastiest pedal of the bunch.." Guthrie is an articulate guy
I think dude went to oxford for english before he decided to commit to guitar. Hes a dude who would be at the top of any field
"i can bore you with the details" :D
He went to a prestigious college for English
I just love this guy. His intellect and wit always catches me by surprise. He also uses sarcasm like spices he stirs into the stew. Really enjoyable character.
His knowledge bank is an endless void. "Egg frying background noise" Who the hell comes up with that stuff.
He comes from another dimension lol...
He did go to Oxford for an english major I think, and he used to read a ton of books since he was three. One would expect him to be well acquainted with the language
called anologies
Start The Rebellion no, it's anologies my phone did not auto correct me so I spelled it right

Rebecca Dirks knows her stuff. She asks the right questions and knows what she wants to get out of the interview. Very mature interviewer. Props to you ma'am.
Rebecca is the best guitar gear interviewer of all time. No comparison. She's a legend
Yeah, she was a real pro when it came to interviews. I was so sorry to find out she had left PG.
She is indeed good.
"what picks are you using?"
Hardly the stuff of legends, but we get it, you fancy her.
Absolutely!
Nah she’s just hot, have you seen her interview with Satchel?
At 2:53, is he doing killing in the name???
MyCatShitsFire Literally heard that and scrolled to say so. But youd already done it xD
Wimpywolf same ahaha
Same haha
haha yes! awesome catch!
MyCatShitsFire Even he can appreciate Tom Morello
moisture and evil
And all that good stuff

was this the capcom intro at 3:09? :D

YES
! Amazing catch bud!
Nice! Now I will have to play Street Fighter 😂😂😂
Sounded like it, yeah

The fact that he has muscle memory for instantly tuning the E string to D and vice versa PERFECTLY was fairly mind blowing to me.

This video.
It pleases me.
08:30 😂😂😂 her face when he says"egg frying"
Props to Rebecca for a very interesting/thorough look at Guthrie's gear! Nicely done!
lol "...doesn't do much, just there to cheer me up..."
Best Rig Rundown out there. And I love that guitar!
I would definitely pick Guthrie to narrate my life in his own words
“Egg frying” Rebecca’s face looks like she is going to loose it. Guthrie is hilarious.
Damn! Now I need to practice my guitar and English. Guthrie is like guitar Jesus who speaks like Shakespeare.
Hahah Shakespeare. Not quite
Rig explained by not any guitar tech but the man himself, we need more interviews like this.
Love the "Killing in the Name" riffcheck at 2:52, followed by the craziest whammy bar thing I've ever heard
He seems like such a nice guy. unassuming, humble, witty, and a damn great guitarist.
Love this guy. I've watched this like 10 times.
...it cheers me up to know that it's there.
Brilliant.
"I will tune up more before the gig"
Bugra Sisman I read this comment just as he said it 😮
Most of the guitarists interviewed usually look all tired of interviews, but Guthrie actually looked like he was having fun explaining his rig.
10:30 Bryan is checkin out Rebecca in the background
HAHAHA Nice catch.
No he just hit the mic with his peace sign :P
@premierguitar Wow!! Premierguitar is amazing!! And Rebecca Dirks too!! Thanks for all the rig rundown stuff!!
she's good. she knows alot
Unlike you, alot boy.
I'm very pleased to have Guthrie's English accent and humorous and practical take on the guitar rig here on Premier Guitar.
as long as his equipment keeps "Pleasing him"...the world shall keep turning freely
Loving how both the top comments are just quotes of Guthrie, the sickest man alive and one of the best guitarist's out there right now in my opinion
2:52 Guthrie plays RATM...
Josh Evans it's not like he busted out JOHNNY thunders or something. just a boring ratm song
well he did cover Bulls on Parade with Dizzie Rascal
I bet every (by her interviewed) guitarist remembers Rebecca Dirks.

Bryan at 9:35 checking the chick out :D
😂😂😂
Kfkdks man he stared like 4 minutes 🤣
'Joyous things to behold'! - luv this guy!
6:09 "...let us move on to my other DEVICES" haha
What a nice man. No attitude, comes across as a super nice guy AND is an amazing guitarist.
rebecca is a heart throb
+Dan Hahn Oh, She is my secret love! She "pleases" me so much with her incredible smile and big "eyes". ;)
+Chio Chan Genocide sure, i will not
She’s awesome.
back off she's mine
groovy man!
Guthrie ist so nice and chilled, what a great guy and musician, too!
I LOVE GUTHRIE, HIS SENSE OF HUMOR! ^^
He looks like the type of man who will write a thesis on something artistic and intelligent, then drink a glass of fine wine afterwards and then play an amazing guitar lick and melt everyone's faces with it.
3:09.... capcom?
watch?v=7GJ3dCE2wIA
Guthrie comes off as a mad scientist of guitars to me...he has this wild look in his eyes and his use of words. Like he is an intelligent mad man.
i love how everything 'pleases' him XD
"They are joyous things to behold" Talking about his fretts. I love this guy!
"But enough of the Koko Boost, lets move on to my other devices"
That KokoBoost is the shit! I really like Rundowns where guitarists actually play and show what each thing does to the sound.
His face at 9:28 is like 'duck my life'
i love this guys voice
"It's throaty.. It's fat.... It pleases me"
RyanIsARecluse he wants a fat covered throat
got a little too personal, didn't he?
My girlfreind.
THE BEST KIND OF THROAT BOYS HERRherherherheherTREHIEEIEHEIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHERREREEEEEEEEEER
I was actually thinking I've this this kind of voice before.. you just saved me from hours of thinking.
The best players have the smallest, sloppiest looking pedal boards...because they're focused on actually playing the guitar.
I must be a great guitar player!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 And I didn't know it! In my case you can be bad at guitar and have a sloppy looking pedalboard!😂
2:17 lol were those guthrie's zig zags??? XD
He has such a radio friendly voice. I could imagine him telling me there is a traffic jam on the M1 or introducing a classic rock show at about 5 in the evening on a Sunday.
If i were to see this guy walking down S Congress in Austin, Tx, that is not the voice I'd expect. Lol.
Guthrie Govan - The guitarist with the greatest quotes!
Roasted maple before when roasted maple was cool
Very nice interview
She makes him so nervous he starts playing with his hair
GG, humble and articulate as always.
daym that chick... i don't even care about guthrie's rig anymore
He's almost as good at speaking as he is at playing guitar. His choice of words and delivery are both top notch.
"It's throaty, it's fat, it pleases me." If you know what I mean.
listening to guthrie talking about all his guitar stuff is so... relaxing
8:23 "Sounds expensive" xD
I shoulda been at that show. I'm gonna go cry in my beer now.
BB, MM & GG! Tour again soon!
''I didn't think i'd end up using this, but It's Throaty, it's Fat, it pleases me!'' That's Exactly how I feel about my Girlfriend Guthrie!
As if you have a girlfriend.

@@ZombieOrchestra goddamn man you annihilated him
@@melbro7379 I went kind of hard, but he shot his yapper off. He took down his videos and curled up in the fetal position for a good cry.
She asks great questions. Perfect for this job.
Clearly he got flustered in front of this sexy chick, started thinking about sex and became very typically English in overly sarcastic way.
haha yeah I noticed that too.
Great video! Thanks PG!
which rolling papers do you use?
rizla+ hahaah
He uses Zig Zag. I happen to know this because I caught him outside of a tiny club in Omaha before The Aristocrats played. He was rolling English tobacco that I didn't recognize, but using Zig Zag papers.
He is so intelligent he could never give u an answer that didn't involve words that u never heard before
All in the hands. I'd sound like dog shit with his rig.
Yup.
Absolutely... Yet he can can sound like anyone he wants to and it kills me that he can be that good.

Adequate amounts of meat. Quite.
This was uploaded on my bday... Awesome.
3:10 capcom title
Geez...this dude plans his set around the "frequencies" of the other players instruments. A whole other level experience!
"eggfrying" lol
9:18
"The Wah Rocker pedal 3. And... it makes me sound like a duck. Which I enjoy."
This guy :D
Could he have chosen a more British alternative to a pedalboard? Oh Guthrie.
Rebecca is a Queen
"It's throaty... it's fat... it pleases me" sounds like BJ description to me.
Love Rig Rundown and love Rebecca!
so sad that guthrie believes in tonewood other than that hes a beast
If you actually do frequency tests you'll see that different tonewoods resonate differently....
