More than anything this video reminds me of one very important fact. Whether you are Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King or any other celebrated guitarist. Without the dedication and hard work of the engineers and designers who produce the amplification, effects and instruments, people like Martin Kidd, then there wouldn't be the music we love (regardless of genre or style). Hats off to all the engineers over the years they are the true unsung heroes of rock.
dlees saw him live with his Aristocrat buddies. Left after an hour. Was awesome. Brain went into Overload. Listen to him in short bursts. It is like being allowed to look at the equation of the universe. I am but a mere mortal.
@@classicartfoundation639 No. He's got huge chops maybe the best in the scene. What makes him the best is the combination of sheer knowledge, musicality and technicality. He hears the music he wants to play in his head and he instantly transfers it to his instrument without facing any technical or musical barriers. He's as complete as a musician can get on one instrument.
What an amazing player, he's so controlled and fluid, when he goes for a shred he manages to keep it musical and still has feel, really amazing to watch
Guthrie's a lovely down-to-earth guy who on first appearances looks a little like 'Aqualung' until you put a guitar in his hands, then realisation rapidly sets in that appearances are deceptive and he's divinely-inspired. Daniel Steinhardt of 'TheGigRig' has an incredible channel on RUclips, I've learned so much from him for free over the past week or so in terms of setting-up my amp and pedal-board. It's lovely to see talented, open people come together in situations like this to demonstrate quality musical equipment. Great video, thank you.
The arpeggios are so clean. I wouldn't normally go for this style but this man is amazing on the guitar, I love the dedication to the work. Stunning. Well done.
Yep..I went to this..I am in the left bottom corner of the screen and the one whistling at the end of each tune..Guthrie is just too AMAZING for words..to see him up close was just awesome.. he is funny and a gentleman and just so amazing with the guitar..wow what a night......
Said the same after watching him live, I've seen many more but he pull such a high level performance so effortless it was like as of he was talking, or some other sort of second nature.
Super show; great way to get the word out. I sware that Guthrie is so musically expressive that even his West Coast Grooves Jam Trax recording sounds like a record and not a guitar lesson!
He is unbelievably good and versatile for an Oxford ex-student who never took formal music lessons. I think he has more knowledge of music than most Berklee & GIT "shredders"..
after watching Guthrie for several years, and being a pro player myself, I just wonder what he thinks of the negative criticism. its a shame that people are being killed in the world, and serious stuff is happening, yet we are taking a player like guthrie and slating him for just being Guthrie. he IS what he IS. he is a guitarist of great ability and musicianship, and he wants to create as much music for the people that like him, as long as he can I guess. I'm sure he's had every kind of label thrust onto him good and bad, and I bet it does get to him in some way, nobody hates to be negative, but he's not trying to convince anybody of who he is, you can see he loves playing, and surely that is enough?
Guthrie's playing is scary, brilliant, breath taking, hyper musical and comical. Seems like a nice guy, too. I much prefer his tone back in the days when he was running with Cornford amps, but his playing sounds great regardless of what gear he uses.
Everything about SuperG is Tone and Feel.... a lot of the so called greatest guitarists in the instrumental world need to take a leaf of his book. Every Note GG plays; even the fast shredding runs have feeling whereas the others just sound sterile. Absolutely blown away..... no doubt the best Musically gifted Guitarist out there. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Guthrie's playing sounds amazing as always and as far as tonally sounds wonderful through the Victory amps. Also, when he said "thank you for coming" I thought that would be a great Aristocrats song title.
I was blown away by the clean sound of the V100. Unbelievable for an amp that cranks so well to have a clean sound like that. Guthrie's playing is probably the world standard for technical excellence at the moment, and he is very creative and musically intelligent. I haven't heard much of his music. There seems to be a lot in every piece. He's one of those players who plays "a lot of guitar" in Wes Montgomery's phrase. As a creator of great musical ideas, I wouldn't put him in the class of Joe Satriani, but listening to him is listening to a first class musical mind, that's for sure.
Love the way Guthrie loses himself in his guitar when he's playing! He's gone! I want to see the entire live playing video....with no breaks please!!! Awesome!!!!
I've been hooked on Guthrie's shredding escapades & slowly this Musical Genius is becoming my Guitar Guru , right next to Steve Morse !!! ... Incredible player !
It's nice they took in this homeless guy and gave him some warm coffee. He plays the guitar pretty well, he should look into doing that as a career to get off the streets.
I would say you have my undying love for uploading this, but some of the playing was interrupted in the edit. Therefore, I shall only love you for a long time.
I think he's mouthing out the tones as he hears them in his head. This is something that jazz musicians are taught and considering how much Guthrie worships guys like Joe Pass, it would make sense that he emulates this technique.
Guthrie Govan is an amazing musician/guitarist. I don't like to compare guitarists as they're all different in their own ways but, if I did, I'd struggle to find anyone that would come close to Guthrie. He's quite incredible, and a lovely guy too.
Ugh they all sound fantastic! My two personal favorites are the V10 (the little combo that could) and the V100 (the Steven Wilson tone I absolutely fell in love with). I kind almost wish, for kicks, he played Chapper's Silverback. I just would love to hear how he sounds through one!
Dweezil Zappa needs to get Govan on his tour right now. I just have a feeling that if Frank saw this guy, he'd be his new "stunt guitarist" in about a quarter of a second.
To be fair, I do agree that the clean tone from 'Wonderful Slippery Thing' was slightley less wet (rather than dry) compared to the studio version. Still, comparing a live situation with a studio set up may be a bit unfair, cuz it probably is significantly harder to get best of both worlds (tone and the overall balance) in live situation, especially when he is supposed to be switching from 10W to 100W.
Man I love Waves! Sound has a lot to do with your pickups. I know some will disagree, but good pickups will make your guitar sound way different than stock pickups. A way bigger difference in sound than aftermarket speakers or even an amp. You can get this same sound by using Dimarzio pickups. A PAF Pro in the neck and a Fred in the bridge, preferably in a solid mahogany body. Classic Ibanez JS series setup. This sound is very dry and straight forward just like Joe Satriani. Or just be cool and get the amp, but don't get upset when your guitar sounds different through the amp because of your pickups!
Still kicking myself that I didn't make the effort to go see him when he was in town the other week! Now only if we could get The Aristocrats to come, that would be good.
Look at it realistically kids. A good amp has a kind of transparency that allows the sound of your guitar and style to transmitted into the airwaves free of any unintended frequencies or coloration. With this in mind remember that Guthrie will sound like Guthrie and you will sound like you (not Guthrie) The point again, approach this with a clear and realistic sensibility, don'y expect sonic miracles or to sound suddenly like someone else and enjoy hearing you being you..
if i ever had a gripe about something in guthrie govan i would say it was his live tone sometimes. but in this video its superb. before it was sometimes a bit dry and weak but its great here.
My two favorite guitarists, actually. I like the contrast between them; Guthrie’s fluid, creative, improvised and versatile playing... But Petrucci’s written, melodious, emotive solos are untouchable! And both are tone kings.
Just bought a Vic Super Countess......killer amp, seriously. Just watched this video of GG playing....now selling three Gibson les pauls, the new Vic amp, two sets of string, assorted picks and some pedals......

@Pete Cockcroft umm ok
Never plays a song the same way twice. Always awesome
That’s right... and let’s be honest, this is one of the best versions of Waves (even tho it’s chopped!)
best guitarist alive
dlees AND HE'S really very FAST !!!
dlees saw him live with his Aristocrat buddies. Left after an hour. Was awesome. Brain went into Overload. Listen to him in short bursts. It is like being allowed to look at the equation of the universe. I am but a mere mortal.
Why? Because he's fast?

Oh my goodness...there's a run at about 14.15 going in to this epic bend. I think I just wet myself!!
Indeed.
I did on the night. Wicked evening despite it
Damn!
I literally got goosebumps all over my arms... eargasm!!
the tune he uses as intro to his tutorials?
The producers should have made a separate video without the interruptions.
Agreed, the interruptions detract from the content were all here for
The music is too loud compared to the talk audio
The arpeggios are so clean. I wouldn't normally go for this style but this man is amazing on the guitar, I love the dedication to the work. Stunning. Well done.

Guthrie wrote Waves in his early twenties. TWENTIES!!
Brian Dennehy when he was 19 actually!
AnilZonderPunt Madness!
Guthrie is a very simple person, his tone is fantastic, his equipment is simple, and he is a fantastic player!!
guthrie is like an oxford professor of english who turned out to be an amazing guitarist, whilst also looking like a viking warrior, a true legend.
Philosophy i think he said he would've studied had he not become a guitarist.
He actually studied English at Oxford but dropped out after a year to focus on music.

Just discovered my new #1 favorite guitarist on the planet.. That is all.
Said the same after watching him live, I've seen many more but he pull such a high level performance so effortless it was like as of he was talking, or some other sort of second nature.
37 people threw their guitar at the monitor and it bounced off the dislike button

+StinkMeat That's impossible. Even if someone threw their guitar at their monitor, it wouldn't be able to push the digital dislike button! Kappa
@@FearCycle Just pretend it was some weird shitty resistive touchscreen computer lol M
Guthrie Govan should be the next Defense Against The Dark Arts Professor
Man i get freaking chills when Guthrie plays, good stuff !!
Damn he's clean
yes, we all know he's taking a shower often
clean? that shit was filthy
***** The same can be said about your playing Sean!
RidvanDuzey aww thats nice of you! :) thanks

how can anyone dislike this...
People who have been put off playing guitar because of Guthrie's immense skill :L
People are just testing to see if the dislike button is wired up, that's all.
lol it makes me want to create a some new sweeep picking patterns and work on music even more...
Guthrie's Guitar playing is Mind Blowing. He is the Jimi Hendrix of today. Wow
No
He's the Guthrie Govan of today.
This is how 50 years of playing guitar looks like! Playing with passion of course. Hats off 👽
We need the whole concert please!
Was so excited for this, thank you!
This guy carries a new era of guitar playing! along with couple others..
Oh man alive! This is awesome! Wish I could see the whole clinic!
Either way, Really nice video. Fabulous quality
