I'm an Indian, but Jehad Zafar's understanding of Indian govt and Modi is super tunneled and informed by Pakistani sources that echo similar views.
Twice it has happened that a Prime Minister from BJP (Vajpayee and Modi) has extended friendship towards Pakistan, and both times they were stabbed in the back by certain elements from Pakistani establishment.
He mentioned Kargil, but didn't realize or maybe doesn't even know that within 4 days of Modi visiting Nawaz Sharif in 2016, terrorists infiltrated the border in Punjab and attacked India's Pathankot airbase. Obviously there is a political capital associated when PM from any party let alone a Right-wing party, tries to establish relations with Pakistan.
Forget about BJP govt, when Congress was in power in India, what response did they get except more attacks from elements across the border? The most grave example being 2008 Mumbai attacks, and Pakistan following the same policy of denial, despite there being clear evidence of communication trails, arms trails and a captured terrorist.
Pakistan has consistently harbored and continues to host anti-India terrorist groups, with the UN listing more than 100 designated terrorists from Pakistan. And since Jehad is viewing this issue from his narrow lens, he doesn't know that BJP had been putting Kashmir's integration every time in their election manifesto. Not sure about Pakistan, but Indian democracy has some relevance of a party's election manifesto.
Jehad thinks it's Indians who keep more enmity with Pakistan, whereas our top leadership rarely mentions Pakistan's name even. It's Pakistani leaders who give threats of nuclear war at the slightest of argument or verbal disagreements.
Indian state's current policy wrt Pakistan is clear. The cost (economic and political) of re-engaging with Pakistan far outweighs the benefits, till Indian state sees a consistent and serious policy from Pakistani establishment on withdrawal of support and action against groups/elements harmful to India's security. It's more sensible for India to spend money on Chabahar port and build safe and reliable trade routes, than invest political and economic capital into Pakistan, only for that effort to be sabotaged by another unfortunate event.
Modi is possibly the only Indian leader right now that can choose to re-engage with Pakistan, and people largely will still support him. It is only when another sabotaging attack from Pakistani soil during/after the engagement happens against India, that people will criticize Modi for this decision. And history consistently shows there are high chances that would happen again. India hasn't stopped trade with Pakistan btw, it's the other way around.

To be very honest whenever I hear about Indians complaining about terrorism from Pakistan side they always mention 2008 mumbai attacks and forget even Pakistan has suffered a lot from these such attacks. I remember watching news every night and seeing news about bomb lasts in karachi and other cities. Like I don’t understand how Pakistan is responsible for that, I think it could be some of the elements inside the establishment (not sure though) or could be other elements. But still his point of view regarding polarisation is true, as I have never ever seen any comment on social media about Indians wanting Babar or shaheen to play in India, on the flip side; Pakistanis always support virat and always want Indian team in Pakistan. Believe it or not, nowadays indians are more polarised than pakistanis. Cheers 🎉

    • @dr.cooper5909
      @dr.cooper5909 Год назад +37

@@digiedits8150 @DIGI EDITS @DIGI EDITS sir, with due respect, your establishment has a history of harboring such elements from a long time, starting with Afghan Jihad. Initially, groups like Afghan Taliban and India-centric groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar e Toiba, Jamaat ud Dawa enjoyed full support from your establishment. But over time, some groups emerged that targeted Pakistani state itself e.g. anti-Shia groups, TTP etc. Pakistanis very often casually equivocate Pakistan's suffering from terrorism, with that of India. We as Indians understand that the common Pakistani has little to do with these allegations, but unfortunately your establishment has a history of not telling the truth to its people. Be it history of Indo-Pak wars, to countless incidents of terrorism. You can refer to independent non Indian sources on any issue if you can't decide.
Indian state did not embark on a consistent policy of facilitating active cross border terrorism into Pakistan. You mention Kulbhushan Jadav as being equivalent to Ajmal Kasab, but let me tell you Pakistani state has little hard evidence to back up those claims, except his Indian passport and a confession under custody (even local courts in modern times don't regard as that of any value since it's easy to extract confessions under duress). Ajmal Kasab and the likes of him had clear communication trails (live recordings and satellite data of his handlers instructing him in real time), arms trails, contact trails, visual evidence as well as narco test recordings. Kulbhushan Jadav was at best a spy, and espionage is fairly common between India and Pakistan. Just few months ago, a Pakistani spy living in Delhi and UP for more than 10 years was arrested by Indian agencies. The Indian state did not claim him to be a terrorist because international courts demand evidence.
Yes Indian media also projects a negative view of Pakistan for TRP, but similarly Indians also similar behavior from Pakistani media as well as leaders in high govt positions e.g. sheikh rasheed. So there are Indians who watch Pakistani media hate and think we're good, but Pakistanis hate us. Similarly, there are Pakistanis like you and many more, who watch Indian media hate or some far-Right maniac and say we're good, but Indians are so evil.
On your point about Indians not wanting cricketing ties between the two countries, that's largely because the average Indian leaves foreign policy to the govt and state. The average Indian is busy earning livelihood and trying to capitalize on India's growth spurt. Indian state has excellent ties with Islamic countries such as Bangladesh, UAE, Saudi, Afghanistan and many more. But you wouldn't see Indians protesting against such policy or cursing Indian leaders for such policies. Whereas matters such as international relations and foreign policy are so heavily politicized in Pakistan's domestic politics, that your politicians and political discourse turns extreme towards them and are ready to label them gaddars and foreign agents at the first chance. Indian politics still has a long way to go, but unfortunately the level of Pakistani political discourse is much more shallow. Same reason why even today, the political discourse in your country is not about elite capture of your economy where the political, feudal, business and military elite protect each other's interests and keep enjoying tax holidays for their preferred unproductive sectors like real estate. Even this day we only see political mudslinging and hypocritical/opportunist stances from every party.

"India ka ye khwaab hai ki use pakistan se rasta mile, wo central asia se trade kar sake."
The moment I see keyboard pakistani experts jump to this point to highlight some kind of leverage they have over India, It always makes me wonder how far away from reality they are.
I hardly think many Pakistanis go over any real Indian planning strategies, but let me help. This plan was dropped a decade and half ago around the same time the Turkmenistan pipeline Idea was dropped, leave this govt even congress won't try and revive that now if that means having a dependence over Pakistan.
Now coming to the trade part, With a combined population of 7 crore, the central asian market is neither big enough nor saturated enough for India to spend so much money to develop; apart from that it is already dominated with russian and chinese goods. The only thing India was interested in was energy pipeline, but to have it built through a unstable AF-PAK region was never feasible, too expensive bec of mountainous terrain and too unpredictable for India's liking.
Instead of all that India placed its bet on INSTC corridor through Iran which would give it access to europe and Russian markets both through Armenia; a trial run was already done before US put sanctions over Iran but it halted after sanctions, thats why India desperately seeks the JCPOA to be signed as early as possible.
However what India done to counter this was sign multilateral agreements and CEPA agreement. India-UAE became a model for this, UAE became a connectivity hub for Indian goods, the trade boomed from 50 billion in 2016 to 88 bill in current fiscal, they're targetting 200 bill for 2026-27. Funfact, the CEPA was only put into action earlier this year so all that without anything implemented. Thats more than what they could ever get from Central asian market. Apart from this India-UAE became partners in other agreement such as I2U2 and trilateral with France and now seeking trade agreements with both Britain and EU.
India do miss Iranian energy from the markets but we would also like to be as independent on imports as possible as our oil energy import bills are huge, because of this we are investing huge sums into renewables, we generate 175 GW from renewable as of August 2022, in 2023 we have around 30 billion $ as investment planned for renewables and want to achieve 500-600 GW target in 2030.
The dimension of both energy capacity and energy consumption have changed which pretty much were our main interest in central asia.

They can keep central asia - we have a lot of big fish to fry even outside the western world. Anyway the Ukraine war has shown the problem with giving an adversary oil leverage over you - silencing whatever proponents of TAPI were left in India. The first thing you guys need to understand is your geography is not that important. If someone has to go to central Asia, Afghanistan falls between your country and central Asia. Their will not be any guarantee that any of the goods that pass through pakistan and afganistan will reach central Asia safely.
As for reaching central Asia, India is developing port in Iran which is much more stable, civilised and educated than pakistan and afganistan. The north south corridor from Russia to India via Iran and Caspian sea is already in action, so stop bragging about geography.

I disagree with the speaker. As a matter of fact, the Modi government tried to reach out its neighbours in its “Neighbourhood First” policy, which included Pakistan! However, if you are going to harbour terrorists and they’re going to kill our jawans, it leaves right-wing government with no options but to retaliate and not engage with Pakistan. So, I disagree that India didn’t extend an olive branch to Pakistan, however, India does have certain pre-conditions vis-à-vis India’s security concerns without which they don’t want to engage which I am sure any sane voice in Pakistan would agree with.
Based on what I have seen, India is very cordial with governments which do not hurt India’s interests in anyway, and will go out of their way to support them in time of their need. But, if you poke India, under Modi’s leadership, they won’t tolerate it and let it go. That’s the major difference between this government and previous Indian regimes.
Previous Indian governments would let it go to improve ties with neighbours (despite attacks on parliament or Mumbai), but let me tell you, it won’t happen under Modi’s leadership. Modi doesn’t forget and will take revenge what come may! Some may disapprove of such policy, but whether one likes it or not but that’s the muscular policy they’ve adopted which many in India welcomes because after so many years of docile/pacifying policy, India didn’t see any meaningful outcomes so they’ve changed their gears. That’s all!

The tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values. People display this bias when they select information that supports their views, ignoring contrary information, or when they interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing attitudes. The effect is strongest for desired outcomes, for emotionally charged issues, and for deeply entrenched beliefs. It can be managed, for example, by education and training in critical thinking skills.

This chap should first get his basic right. Pulwama or abhinandan has got nothing to do with changing of status of Kashmir. It has always been in BJP manifesto. It was tabled in lower House ( loksabha) in 2016. But unlike banana republic of Pakistan, in India you have to have majority in both lower and upper house(rajyasabha). As soon as BJP got it, it changed the status of Kashmir, no way concerned with balakot or pulvama. But then problem with Pakistan mindset ( including intellectual like you) is that you have been lying to yourself for so long that you will never be able to see the truth. And as far as Pakistan is concerned, most of Indian hardly want anything to do with them. But saying that I will say that we should only be civil with each other, no need of any trade or good relationship.
