    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Meesho is one of the most revolutionary startups of India, and the reason why I call them revolutionary is because they redefined the e-commerce playbook in India. So much so that, today, Millions of small sellers who never thought of selling online are now shipping products all across India!! Today a Jumka wala from Rajasthan is able to ship his products to the neighbourhoods of Kashmir and a clothing retailer from maharashtra is shipping her T-shirts all the way to Kanyakumari! And you would be shocked to know that, while e-commerce giants like amazon and flipkart have been burning cash in the Indian market, Meesho has already achieved profitability in the indian market and that too by empowering the smallest sellers of India!! So by democratising internet commerce for everyone in India, Meesho has become a billion dollar company.
And What is even more surprising is that? The average order value of Meesho is just 360-370 rs, while the Amazon and Flipkart have close to Rs 1000, on top of that, 70% of the products sold on Meesho are 25-30% cheaper as compared to their competition but even then somehow, Meesho has emerged as a profitable ecommerce unicorn in India and that too in less than 10 years!!
And Meesho is growing so fast, that While Amazon’s and Flipkart’s active users grew by 13% and 21% meesho’s active users as of Dec 23 grew by 32% YoY!! And, you would be shocked to know that the customer retention rate for Meesho is as high as 80%!!!
So the burning question over here is, how on earth did Meesho manage to grow their business and achieve profitability in spite of the presence of amazon and Flipkart??
What is their business strategy to achieve profit in a hyper competitive market like ecommerce?
And most importantly, what are the lessons that we need to learn from the profitable rise of meesho??

Common, not a great research by TS. The critical question to be answered is how high is delivery cost here compared to AZ, FK. And how come Meesho is profitable without charging commissions while others are charging commissions? Others too heavily rely on Ad revenue so it's not something only Meesho has cracked.

Yes inhouse logistics is more efficient. If 3rd party logistics van is 60 percent full which needs to travel from Hyderabad to Bangalore but still they have to travel from Hyderabad to Bangalore with 40 percent free space. But for inhouse logistics they used that reaming space to ship the products which are expected to order in coming days. Amazon, Flipkart are not expecting profits from logistics as it is not their primary business. But for 3rd party they need to charge extra commission. For any route if it not profitable then amazon or Flipkart simple makes that pincode unserviceable and depend on 3rd party. Just remember ebay , ShopClues, Snapdeal , Paytm mall . They endup with loses. This just my analysis. Let me know if I am wrong

Meesho uses special labels such as "M-Trusted" & "Mall" just like Amazon's Prime & Flipkart's F-Assured. Are there any differences or they same ?

Private labels are ones that cater to favour the in-house brand of said e-commerce companies where they compete against sellers.
In Meesho's case, it's more of a "Hey, apparently people love this product so maybe it's worth a little label from our end based on its performance" kinda thing.

You mentioned Blue Ocean. Its an amazing concept that many of us learn in B-schools, but I don't think many of us realized until we started connecting it to real world examples. Just a suggestion you can perhaps make a video on Blue ocean Strategy and Red Ocean with some Indian examples.

Someone suggested me this video when I shared the story of how surprisingly my mom convinced me to order kurtas for her from Meesho because her neighbour keeps bragging about it and mom does like what the neighbour wears. I reluctantly downloaded the app and while I have heard of the app before and discussed this whole thing to a great length (It was a date conversation and he was a Meesho employee), I was surprised to first see the prices so low and the obviously doubted the quality. But I ordered it for my mom, it was a small price. To my humbling moment, when the product came, it was surprisingly good, and it looked really good on my mom. I didn't feel cheated for a change :p. But yeah, the impact of this brand is pretty visible. I haven't seen my mom asking me to order something specifically from a particular app. I guess the low cost does have the intended impact. Women buy it, women flaunt it, they share it and the chain continues. Good job Meesho!

Wow thanks for updating Meshoo, I am fed up with Amazon, they are using unfair service. Amazon help is zero, the delivery agents or the customer care is zero, payment is terrible and cushion of 560₹ you get 250₹ that also after more then a month

However with Flipkart & Amazon deciding to replicate the Meesho model, do you think Meesho will be able to sustain their profitability/model. Also would have been much more helpful if you could have helped us understand in much more granular detail how exactly they are being profitable👌👍💓🙏*

Many say we struggled with meesho but I brought more than 100 products and never faced any issue with returns, quality, refunds. I just feel it depends on the area and seller. I have seen in a particular place where people got opened packs that means issues are with logistics and delivery employees too. So meesho needs to look into and resolve this.

Meesho are seller centric and customer support is pathetic. You are forced to digest a wrong products as the return is a nightmare. They have stopped their customer e-mail services long back. The customer call centre executive have a standard copy-paste reply.

That was an awesome study! As you always amaze me!
I know it's too late to ask this, but if I may,
How did they solve the inventory issue with a 'Marketplace Model'?
Because there can be a possibility where a customer orders a product and the shopkeeper might sell it to someone else offline already before the logistics can even pickup the order from the store.
