Probably because on a indoor trainer, you tend to sit down and stay in that position like being glued to the seat. Outdoors, you change position all the time - shift in the saddle for going uphill and downhill, get out of the saddle for a bit when climbing, changing position when cornering, taking the weight of a bit on a longer downhill, getting out of the saddle when stopping at a crossing or a red light and so on. Try shifting a bit more indoors, get out of the saddle every quarter hour or so. It really helps. I had the same problems indoors - and none after riding the Vatternrundan last June (a 315 km ride in Sweden).
Too bad there are copyright restrictions on music. Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" would have been killer intro/outro 😂. Cheers on content that no one wants to address. I budget a bike fit into all new bike purchases. Even if the point of departure is my last fit numbers...woeth it to avoid pain. I would add that shoes can affect how one interacts with the saddle...all contact points interrelated....❤
The first multi hour ride on the fizik arione my bike came with resulted in a totally wilted and numb todger for 4 days. I sold that saddle quick smart.
There needs to be an option to have a PROPER.FUCKING SEAT. Like a proper ergonomic gaming chair with back support. Not everyone wants to be super++ ultra aerodynamic, let us have comfort! Or lie flat and have the best of both! (horizontal bikes)
Great helpful video, just another tip, I suffered with numbness during and after my ride for a while, and being male, it was uncomfortable, but after testing I found out it was wearing padded cycling shorts that were causing it, if the padding is too soft or too much of it, and poor quality, it actually compounds the problem, as the padding itself will push up between the sit bones and compress the nerve more under body weight, so I now stopped using padded shorts and have a saddle too with no padding, and voila no more numbness
@@rasmus_mattsson yes it took me a while to figure it out, but if you think about it, when you sit on all that padding where does it go, it fills any gaps it can, namely up between your legs and compresses anything that is there… I bought a spoon saddle with barely any padding on it, and don’t wear padded shorts, and although felt quite uncomfortable for a few rides, I soon hit used to it, now I get no numbness at all…
@@rasmus_mattsson what they should do is have padded shorts with a gap in the padding in the correct place for men, and the same for woman, as well as saddles with a gap, and it would solve it all…maybe I should patent the idea….for the shorts anyway…😂
I (male) was plagued by this issue, eventually tried a most radical solution (take all the saddle away) (but forgot to do the same with the seat post, and it turned out worse than ever)
Thanks for addressing this issue, Phil. I was advised years ago by a urologist to be wary about protecting myself on a bike, and I definitely think it has had some effect on me physically.
Ride recumbent bike/trike. It prevents that issue 100%. They also eliminate wrist, back, neck, issues. Once you ride a recumbent you’ll never ride a Diamond frame again.
Nothing worse than Dumb Nick on a longer cycle, can really impact the enjoyment. Really useful video, and do know female cyclists that have experienced numbness too. (phew... I think I managed to get through the comments minefield ok)
Just get yourself a "BROOKES B17" saddle and you'll have no problems at all....and if not a B17 then any other BROOKES SADDLE that suits your discipline 🙏
Agree when I started cycling only Brooks was available really. I rode thousands of miles including many long early season reliability rides. Plus time trials and road racing, all on the same bike lol. Never had a problem.
I get it mostly when I do an indoor ride on Zwift more than say, 25 minutes Barely get it on the road.

@@S7Vmv any you recommend? I have a kickr core
Keep them health related bicycle vids coming and ta very much. PS: This is one issue that Harold probably doesn’t have to deal with! 🚴♂️😄

Intereasting, I've just begun experimenting with the same thing, using much less padding seems to work better. 🙂

Do it! It might make you rich 😀
If nothing else it might help some people 🙂
I've found the easiest solution to pressure on my prostate is switching to a recumbent bike.
good to see this. i have a good saddle on road bike and now getting same for my turbo as winter riding is not nice indoors for long durations
I'm fine on riding outdoors but had a real issue with turbo training. ISM saddles totally solved this
Good to know, I've always experienced some pain on long rides, thanks for the vlog.
My urologist suggested a drop nose saddle which really helped, but still get testicular pain since having a hernia repair on one side
I just throw mine over my shoulder on uphills.😎🚴🏼❤️
What?! Your numb 🍆??? Must be 🐘😳
@@KatieKookaburra Nah,just a small seat😎….❤️🚴🏼
im fking dying 😭😂😭😂😭😂
Great piece, Katie. Phil is _everywhere_ isn't he?

"She smokes a dozen and he doesn't seem to notice the smell.
He took the seat off his own bike because the way that it felt."

What about numbness at the contract point with pedals?
Shoes tight or saddle height? Bikefit James on YT
Great advice, I think Harold liked getting man handled by Katie 😂 Also make sure you have quality cycle shorts, this solved backside soreness for me.
😂The Harold cameo at the end! 🤣
“Dirk Genitalia” doesn’t he run a Detective Agency? 😂
Gently😊

Glad you're doing good with it :)
We could bring a new saddle to the market called = mind the gap.

I get mild incontinence for a couple of days if my seat isn't quite right 😬
When there's too much pressure on the nerve it means there is not enough pressure on the paddles: Work harder! 😂
I'd switch to Adamo sadel and no more pain in long distance rides type IM...
Thankyou for this.
Perfect video :-))
Congrats
that's Numb-wang! (Sorry, couldn't resist a bit of Mitchell & Webb reference...)
make that NumB-Wang
Is riding without a saddle an option?
Yes, it is. Go for it
How to avoid Numb * * * * without talking about Numb * * * * ? 😁
Harold can't walk straight because he doesn't have a gap saddle!
Any recommendations for saddles for men with prostate issues?
Selle SMP TRK saddle. Drop nose with firm padding and plenty of relief for enlarged prostate. Most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden.

I bet there was some giggling going on making this edit 😅😅
Few bits had to be cut :)
Can we worse on some motorcycles and harder to fix.
You look different, Katie.
Wonders what a shower and hair cut can do
So, this isn't a Katie video. Stopped watching.
