Hi beautiful job and very helpful. I have redwood siding that is 80+ yo. It is thick board and batten construction. We pressure washed unfortunately with too high pressure and left markings - would you advise using sanding it down to smooth and is so at what progression of grit? Thank really like your low key and informative delivery

Sanding will likely work, although it depends how deep the marks are. I'd start at a very low grit if it were me, 36 or perhaps 60 if the marks aren't very deep. Then work your way to 80 or 100 at most. You don't want to burnish the wood pores closed to prevent the wood from absorbing stain. Thanks for watching!

Follow up question about treating redwood siding - did you use a tinted product? And if so can you mention the color, brand and product? I cannot find stains tinted for redwood. (We live in CA near the coast) Our old redwood siding is really beautiful color now that we pressure washed it, and I’d like to simply protect it with a flat clear ‘stain’ But since much of the protection comes from the stain’s colorant, our local paint store advises against going with a clear coat. May I ask for your advise and product recommendations? Thank you again-

Sure thing, I used Armstrong Clark's Amber tone in their hardwood line. Armstrong Clark is a CA company so you should be able to get them in your area, or at least shipped to you. It's correct that protection comes from the pigments, but fundamentally if you want to do a low pigment "natural" tone it's up to you, just know that you'll have to do maintenance coats much more often.

Where are you based? I have a redwood house in Santa Barbara that needs some love.

I’m watching your vids cause I’m looking to restore a 2’ tall redwood statue of a grizzly sitting down. It’s been hammered by the sun, it’s probably 30 years old and my uncle gave it to me when I was a kid. I figured an oil because redwoods are made of oil for fire resistance, but want to get as many hints as I could before I start messing with it. I’m worried cause I feel like it may be too far gone to resemble it’s once beautiful self.
