Any reason why you did not protect the white columns on the deck? Also, do you power wash with your masking still attached to the house or pull it off before?
Great video! One of the best I've seen on stripping. How did you apply the stripper to the verticals? With a brush? Or sprayer?
A have same sprayer, loose a lot pressure, I don’t know why? Any advice
The place is on well water. Is the well near? And you are dumping chemicals into the soil. What's wrong here?
In true awe of your skills in imparting knowledge.
This is the only video anyone needs for how to strip a deck. The people getting their information from Facebook groups run by guys trying to sell their chemicals or stain are so mislead.
Please advise the exact name of the product you are using. I don't see oil under Armstrong Clarks products
What do you recommend for a full open deck that was never stained and is now 15 years old and just kind of ashy gray?
@advicefromayoungtradesman - outstanding video. What is best stripper for thompson waterseal?
Can you use polyurethane on an exterior hardwood or tiger wood deck? Is there any products that could give that look of indoor hardwood?
Hell no. No film forming sealers! Use an oil base stain like Ready Seal, TWP
Hey, this is for anyone. Looking for some advice on working with my Tigerwood deck. I’ve been using deck wise ipe oil for a couple of years. I’m not that happy with it. It turns really dark brown overtime and loses all the beautiful colors of the Tiger Wood. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep that nice orangey look with the grain for a longer period? I don’t mind redoing it every year. Is there any clear products?
Now that wood elements, rattan and tans are in style, I think you should have stained them with whitewash stain to tone down the yellows. They sell the stains in sandy colors too.
Would there be anything fundamentally wrong with tackling this using a sander only? I have a much smaller redwood home with what looks like its original stain from 1965. Everywhere I look on the internet says to use a stripping agent first. Thank you in advance
I also think that the ED is best used with oil-based urethane in epoxy latex is kind of too heavy to run through it again when you’re doing fine you shouldn’t be latex anyway
The 440 because it’s a pump piston has variations in pressure which causes spitting and not a consistent pressure asthe ED
I wish I could talk to this guy, would love to know when he thinks stripping is necessary on IPE
I’m finishing my ipe deck following your excellent vid and recommendations, question; How do you protect your newly finished deck from deck furniture
COVID was coming Covered with masks😂
One of the best videos I’ve seen really nice work you do
Cover your arms and legs to protect splashes harming your skin
Too much clutter to really appreciate the change of color.
This was so helpful! Why didn’t I look for this before reading the polyurethane can and the Andersen instructions?! I was reluctant to remove the sashes so I was careful. I used #0000 steel wool and a tack cloth on the bare wood followed by Minwax oil based stain, wiped off after 15 minutes. Today I applied one coat of UV oil based poly with a Purdy brush. The humidity level is high so the drying time is lengthened. The surface does not feel smooth- will the light sanding take care of that? And tomorrow morning I’m getting a respirator 😮. Thanks again for this informative video.
Great video! Thanks. Is there any reason not to skip the brightening process and use a floor sander on the whole thing?
Did you consider using DeckWise Ipe Oil? Great product
Hey, so you like the dick wise? I haven’t been happy with it but I wonder if I’m doing something wrong. Mine goes a really horrible dark brown color overtime.
Good day sir, I'm new to these pumps. Where do I add the oil after cleaning pump? Inlet valve? Great content 👌🏽
That’s a lot of hassle
Great demonstration video, thanks ! Question: have you ever used Tung Oil on the exotic hardwoods for exterior decks. Someone said it worked great for them. Would love to hear any comments or suggestions. Thanks again!
I was looking for Someone thats doing rails
Did you ise the same stripper in the pump to keep it wet? Ot is pretty viscous as you said wondering if its the same product or you diluted
So did you completely sand the varnish off?
Wow! Best video on stripping a deck. No fluff, no upsell. Keep it up!
What stain did you used. Was it oil based. Great video.
this is not diagnosing! This is trial and error replacing parts until the VAC works again.. Dumb to invest in a new turbine if there is a fault on the electronic board, or if its simply the coals that are worn out. As far as I’m concerned diagnosing is to measure in this case the motor to see if it actually works or not before ordering a new unit. And motor can still be fine if coals don’t do their job properly. Having the motor out you can also measure if the correct current comes through the wires which will rule out the electronic board as the issue. The whole point with diagnostics is to determine the faulty part before ordering anything..
Your strip/stain videos have been sp helpful! I'm about to strip acrylic stain from my cedar siding using armstrong clarks stripper. Any tips on how to protect my garage door? I definitely dont want to strip the color from it.
This is 5 years old, so I am sure you have learned by now that you always strain any Sherwin Williams product before use and to have the proper filters in your gun as well as your pump especially when using a 310 tip. The spraying technique you used was very novice as well, no horizontal passes should have been made here. Vertical strokes only, working from right to left with your fan angled slightly towards the right followed by a second pass from left to right with your fan angled slightly towards the left, this method will assure all gaps between boards are covered.
Hey there, what was the make and color of the stain please?
I just came across your channel. Great content. Very professional.
what a good price range to charge for a deck like this?
How AC holds up over the years? thanks
What about cleaning the new windows after stain and poly. Everyone shows using razor blades but I'm concerned about scratching the glass...? Please advise. Thanks! Nice job on your video!
awesome video, super helpful!
Definitely earned a sub. Great channel!
Oh i use oil on doors and base ..how do you like it with Pronar Oil gloss .? Have you tried oil .been using my 395 with a hopper.. rwal pain in thr butt
Just bought one
Graco GX19 is an airless piston this is a diaphragm.. getting it today.. I have the new Graco ultra shot.. too. and a Graco 295 with a hopper.. want to try a diapgram sprayer.
I just want to make sure, we don’t have to sand or strip the walls at all?
I've got ten large windows. It will take me forever to sand them. I think orbital first, then hand sand to fish? And, I thought that mill glaze was chemical treatment?
cheers man! do you prime again over the sanded area or jump straight into top coats?
Have you ever experienced that fan getting stuck when you try to turn it on?
Great info. Just starting my own small painting business tips as possible. Be following thank you. Love the tint idea. What kind of dye is that? You add that to spackle/ mudd patch?
That's just carpenter's string line chalk, available in several colors, and it can be added to any spackle/joint compound. Best wishes on your journey!
