Man, when you started talking about sin and Jesus my heart leaped up in my chest! I haven't heard anyone talk like that in a while! He's coming back for His own soon and we better be ready!
Ok, so I’m about to start replacing the siding on 1892 Victorian and my question to you wood there be a benefit to using screws over the nails? And if I were to use nails, would you suggest a larger nail than you would use screw? Thank you for the information, your doing the lords work.🙏
Good job, I've got the same issue warped 16ft side panels. The rain I think. May try and pin them in because shiplap here in my UK town is hard to find!
This video is very helpful. I am looking at the exactly the same thing at my home, and plan on doing it this Spring/Summer. I even have the exact type of ship-lap, exactly the same profile however, I am having a hard time finding new ones with the same profile. Thank you for the instructions.
Usually Home Depot and Lowes don't sell this lap siding. Go to you local directory and look up some of the smaller lumber yards as they seem to carry this product and a lot more specialty type items.
ehhhhhhh. yea that works however I use a special epoxy designed for repairing dry rot. I've used it for 20+ years and it does work. A bit on the expensive side but the end result is timed saved.
Really enjoyed the video, grabbed a few tips I might need to utilize. Was pleasantly surprised to hear the good word in the video too. 👍 After flipping through the comments, I'm amazed to see some of the confused commenters and some of their comments. What ever happened to, '...if you don't have anything nice to say, ...'. I guess having that approach would make RUclips to enjoyable. 🤔 I can appreciate difference of opinion, but the need (or even desire it appears like at times) to get nasty is beyond me. At any rate, thanks for sharing and have a great day.
I would highly suggest not using those 3 or 3-1/2" drywall screws for exterior work. They will rust out fairly quickly and will cause the wood to rot out again. i know it's overkill, but if you never want issues with those screws in the future, use stainless. They are about 2 to 3 times the cost of the drywall screws, but breaking it down to the cost per screw, the difference really is trivial. Even the exterior polymer coated deck screws will rot out over time depending on how humid your area is. I USED to use deck screws to build fences with, until I realized fences I built 5+ years ago are falling apart due to the lumber rotting out WAY too soon with the new PT chemicals they use (though they were marked for ground contact), but also the screws are rusting through, which really surprised me.
Hi Zachary, Thanks for the comment. Stainless is always best. Fortunately for my application it doesn't get direct rain on it due to the roof overhang. I have also had issues with pressure treated fence boards not lasting. In my area Home Depot sells "ground contact" lumber in all board sizes and Lowes only sells "ground contact" in 2x8 and bigger. I am surprised to hear lumber labeled "ground contact" rotted out on your project. I have one rental where I installed gothic arrowhead picket fence 20 years ago (when pressure treatments were the old arsenic formula) and then installed another addition to the fence eight years ago and as of today the 20 year old fence is fine but the newer one is falling apart from rot. I guess they just don't make them like they use to! Surprised no one sells pressure treated lap siding.

Had concrete around garage in old house Guy took it off old concrete. He said I need to replace rotten vinyl around based of garage before pouring new concrete. Do I just use a 2" nail gun to nail the new vinyl or do I use nails?? He also said I need to water proof it with outside paint or something.

Good vid, thanks. James 2:14-26. "Faith without works is dead".Martin Luther invented Sola Fide as the cornerstone (along Sola scriptura) of his new religion 500 years ago. 1500 years of Christianity happened before Luther finally discovered the "truth"? 🤔
Hi Mathew, Thnaks for the nice comment. James 2:14-26 very true just the works are not a requirement for salvation but rather works are a by-product of salvation. If you are truly saved you can't help but do good works. When Jesus was on the Cross He said to one of the thieves beside him "today you will be with me in paradise". That thief didn't have time to do good works.
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, established one holy and apostolic Church, the Catholic Church. All others are false, heretical sects leading people towards damnation. Our Lord tells us to "sin no more," so clearly what we do and don't do matters with regards to salvation, Sola scriptura, sola fidei...these are both lies created by prideful and vain men to lead people away from the truth, the way, and the life through and in Our Lord. There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.
That fiberglass looks terrible. I would fire anybody that did that to my house. Doesn't anyone care about quality work? Strip the paint off and use either thinned fiberglass resin or a wood petrifier to permanently seal the wood. Then paint a finish coat.
This is not quality work. He cut out a tiny piece of rotten siding and saw that the studs were rotten too (which is pretty much guaranteed if the siding is rotting). He then screwed a tiny piece of untreated 2x4 to the rotting stud using drywall screws. After that, he painted the top of the filthy, rotting siding below, stating that "extra thick paint will keep it from rotting." The “quality work” continues when he screws the replacement siding on with more drywall screws. He proceeds to paint the siding and doesn’t even bother to caulk it. As soon as I think the nightmare is over, he shows how he put fiberglass over a big area of siding “to keep it from rotting.” The physical results of this “quality” work will be: 1. Rusting drywall screws that fail and leave ugly rust streaks on the wall. 2. The paint on top of the rot will keep the wood from drying, which will make the rot spread faster. Not that it will stick to filthy, rotting wood in the first place. 3. More rot will spread in the siding, accelerating due to disintegrating screws and failure to caulk joints. 4. Much more rot will spread in the studs and the sill below because of the factors above. Insects will be attracted to the damp studs and carve out cavities in them. That will eventually lead to the wall buckling or racking because it is unsheathed. Inside, the drywall or plaster will crack and disintegrate from the back side, leading to popping nails, and chunks falling off. 5. Black mold will grow all over the inside of the wall and eventually into the living space. 6. The rot behind the fiberglass will be extremely severe because it doesn’t breathe, and the wood never dries. He thinks it’s loose because it didn’t stick to the paint, but the reality is that the wood underneath has completely rotted away. 7. Oh, and if there is rot in the middle of a piece of siding, the corners of the house are almost always rotting too-usually much more severely. Other consequences will include: 1. Lower rents due to the property being ugly and poorly maintained. 2. Lower rents will attract destructive and irresponsible renters. 3. Dramatically reduced resale value of the property. 4. Lawsuits from tenants due to black mold (black mold is also known as “the kiss of death” to real estate agents and lenders). 5. Huge repair/remediation bills in the future that are not covered by insurance. I believe all work should be done as if God is watching. Whether that is sweeping the floor or maintaining a house. Your attempts to convince people to pray are undermined by your demonstration of poor-quality work. That shows contempt for God, not piety. Why should I listen to you about God while you lie to thousands of people about how to repair a home? The quality thing to do is to remove the rotten siding, replace the rotten studs, insulate the wall, sheath the wall, wrap it, tape it, and install a rain screen. Finally, you paint all sides of the siding, then cut and nail the siding with stainless nails (spreading caulk on the cut ends of the boards before nailing). The stainless nails should be cleaned before use so caulk will stick to the heads. After that, caulk the nail holes and all joints, and paint again. This guy needs to take his tools, his fiberglass, and his drywall screws and bury them in the woods. No one who watches this video should ever do anything that they see him do. If a contractor did this to my home, I would sue his pants off.
Ok preacher man. Enough with the crap. There are over 4000 religions in this world. None of them can be correct. You read a book originated not by Jesus but apostles a.k.a followers/historians/chroniclers and in today's popular lexicon "influencers'.. It was rewritten by monks. In the 4th century the Nicaean council voted on which apostles/chroniclers were most valid. The bible was not written by a divine being. It was not written by men touched with special divine knowledge. It was written by men trying to control the world they lived in through fear. Get over it. This bullshit is over 2000 years old and has been perverted for selfish purposes ever since.
Personally I have seen parts of the Bible actually reveal its self as truth not just a little bit but 100% of what I was talking about was exactly the same as the Bible. Regardless of your beliefs religion plays a huge part of how this world was built, the sighns and symbols are all over western architecture and brands. Many celebrities put satanism just look at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony. If the ritch and money hungry in this would clearly are satanist then question is why? If one side has allot of evidence for its existence then so does the other side. Saying that however talking about jesus during a shed video is not the way.
Hi Robert, Thanks for your comment and concern. Please read the full video description and you will see everything in the video is as described. The Lord has given me a talent for fixing things which I share with others and give Him the credit. I hope the video helped you with you siding repair. Thanks
Thanks for this comment, Robert. I was pretty surprised when I got to about 2:25 to suddenly be in the midst of an indoctrination session. OP is welcome to believe what he would like, but that doesn't mean that it is true or real.
Hi Jose, Thanks for your comment. You must not have read the description to the video where it said "we will be sharing a word of encouragement of what the Lord has done for you and I." Sorry you missed it.
Anyone else find it funny that right after nailing into the wood, Jesus is brought up? Maybe Jesus was just a REALLY crappy carpenter, and accidentally nailed himself to the beginning of a pole barn.

A Repair Video with integrity requires full disclosure that this video includes a Christian lecture. Dishonestvideo.
Hi Robert, Thanks for your comment and concern. Please read the full video description and you will see everything in the video is as described. The Lord has given me a talent for fixing things which I share with others and give Him the credit. I hope the video helped you with you siding repair. Thanks
i was more offended by the lighting. so bright in the back that his face is dark. the repair advice is solid, though.
Robert if you do not like the video, then I feel sorry for you!!! Tough Titties! Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ! You NEED to Find Jesus Robert!!!
Thanks for this comment, Robert. I was pretty surprised when I got to about 2:25 to suddenly be in the midst of an indoctrination session. OP is welcome to believe what he would like, but that doesn't mean that it is true or real.
Shiiit! I'm going to hell :/
Did you just do a bait and switch?? Very unprofessional.
No Jesus was actually a stone Mason not a carpenter, this is a common misconception.
