Plans are now available for this cutting board! If you want to give it a shot then check out the plans available on my website. The link is in the video description.
The issue I have is with the use of the word “stripes” when what you really mean, with all due respect, is strips of maple. Stripes are painted on cars, as in pin striping. Sorry; my apologies. 11:17
I know others have said it, but it’s worth repeating. That small little animation in the beginning makes a HUGE difference when compared to other channels. Keep that up and this channel will only continue to grow like crazy. (You’re already a fantastic instructor without the animation, FTR.) Thanks much for the knowledge share!
I couldn't agree more. I have seen countless videos on youtube and @NewtonMakes style is instantly my favorite. I subscibed before it finished. Looking forward to exploring the existing library and excited for new stuff.
I LOVE THAT 3D visual you gave of how you were going to make it in beginning.. NO ONE else is doing sh*t like that. I dig it. Keep doing this. I'm subscribed now. 🤜🤛💪
Thanks. Explaining end grain patterns is a bit tricky. I make the style of videos that I want to watch to either be entertained or informed. I hope they also resonate with others.
You explaining why you do things to work around how your brain works is the most relatable thing I have ever heard. Just found you channel and it’s awesome.
I loved the graphical breakdown on how the glue up will go in the beginning of the video, it really made it click for me how you will be tackling it later on. Thank you! Saving the video to try and make this myself one day!
Just to add a small detail..... Most of us are ussing every day our planers. Most of the times we are not using the complete width of the blades but just a portion and ussualy in the middle. With the use after few months the centre of the blades start to create a small recurve which is not visuall untill we get to cut the cross grain pieces for final glue up to create the pattern . The moment you flip the pieces to create the pattern, that's were you will get the unpleasent surprice(dont ask me how i know!!!). A small tip: use fresh blades for projects like this!!! If spare blades are not available than a couple of passes in the middle of the glued up pieces before the cross grain cut with a coarse sand paper (80 to 100 grit) should do the trick. Good job on your description !!! Thank you very much for the complete very well explained video!!!!
Did I just move up a level in woodworking? You talked about the pattern and then you brought it out of another dimension and put them back together. I never would have thought of that until now and I am really just starting to make new things!
90 seconds in, l liked, i commented and subscribed. Man that visual at the beginning is how I wish everything is explained to me. Good job and thank you!
I love how much glue you use. I'm also a glue nut. Funny I'm a cabinet maker. It was rare for me to ever build one wrong. Cause it was a passion to build cabinets. The foreman of the shop had to fix one I did wrong. When he started to take it apart. His frustration started building. Then look at me and said " Damn Goat, I give you credit. Because you're not afraid to use glue. That's why I like you. " That was a good feeling.
It’s all been said so what do I say…lol. Well done my friend…Well done! 3D Illustrations, step by step breakdown of the process, clear concise explanation in a way for us newbies to follow along, precise measurements, that little sliding trick of the pieces while gluing up (new one for me, thanks), what works for you statement, the use of cauls and on and on…lol. But the biggest takeaway for me was making the maple panels. For most may be obvious but for me…it made my head hurt…lol. I’ve made the brick pattern before and of course did the edge to end that everyone says not to do. Several in fact and nothing has come back…YET…lol. Oh…and free. I’ve paid for designs that I’ve liked and personally don’t mind throwing a bone to the person that provided the designs. It’s simply a way to support them. So yes I’ll be buying merch or whatever to support your channel.
This is the best cutting board video Ive ever seen. Love how we went on the journey without, instead of just telling us how to make the board. Keep up the good work!
Great video, really like the way you broke down the process in advance using the 3d illustration. I know that took a bunch of extra time to create, this experience w just wonderful to watch. I excited to see some of your other cutting board video's. Just got me a bunch of wood recently so I've been surfing for ideas, and I really enjoyed how your board came out with amazing contrast Thank you DA
I absolutely love your channel! Even as a seasoned woodworker I always learn something new with your videos. Thank you for taking time out of your day to make these videos! God bless!!
This is another great vid on how to make 3D looking boards. My dilemma right now is picking one to try! Tip for thin panel glue ups: elevate the board edges slightly, apply tape across the V you make by elevating, leave a slight gap between the tape and bottom of the v, apply glue and when you flatten the pieces the tape will be under tension thus will apply more 'clamping' pressure. Or look for a vid on how to glue up a guitar top using that method because that's how it is often done. I have to admit that I've never tried this on a multi-panel glue up so it may be too difficult to make it work in that case.
I just made the exact same board following you RUclips video. The only thing that you should add is to number the pieces when you slice them. It would save a lot of time when you put them back together to form the pattern. My board is beautiful. Thank you. It is a gift to my Grandson for Xmass.
You are the best .you remind me of my teacher. You are very clear in what you are making. I love to see more 3d cutting boards please keep up the great work that you do .I hope one day I can be as good as you. P.S . By the way I am 58 years old just got into wood working as a hobby I love the 3d cutting boards
Fantastic project ! The beauty lay in the method of transitioning a complex pattern to realitive practicality, with minimal effort. My, my your thought process was impressive. I'm going to try to accomplish this project as my center table.
Brilliant animation!!!! Seeing it, in one moment everything becomes clear. The Chinese are right when they say: one picture is worth a thousand words. One animation is worth a million words!!!! A great idea for a board pattern, perfect illustration. To tell the truth, I have not seen one or the other before - I can smell the originality. :))) Liked, subscribed.
Wow! No kidding that would make a great gift, however it someone gave me this gift, I would probably never cut into it. I have plastic cutting boards that cost me ten bucks that I have no trouble using. This would be on a shelf on display. Great job, thanks for sharing your process.
Hey Newton, another great project, the contrast between the Walnut and the Maple makes the board for me. Stunning grain from the Walnut, thanks for sharing.
Plans are now available for this cutting board! If you want to give it a shot then check out the plans available on my website. The link is in the video description.
How do I. Obtain the plans to make this end grain cutting board. I have only been at this. For 1 1/2 years.

It’s insane, what software did you use to do that?
@@skabello4278 you don't need any software, you just need a picture to copy.
@@MrSnookerballs Sorry, I meant the animations haha

Truer words have never been spoken, " you have to do it the way it works for your brain" BRAVO!
I seriously recommend giving this cutting board a shot. I tried to go over any many steps as I could so that people could follow along.
Def gonna try this one! Thanks brother!!!
:)
It's really not too bad once I broke down what I needed to do. At first I was puzzled.
Such a cool design. Thanks for making it easy to understand

Very very nice. The wood combination of walnut and maple really make it a piece of art. You almost just want to display it and not use it.
Awesome. Can you imagine how much work a tabletop like that will be. Oh boy.

That grain match up alone makes this a masterpiece.
Much appreciated!
