How I Made A Plaid Cutting Board

- In this video, I show how I made a plaid cutting board. It's about 20" x 15" x 1.5" and it's made from walnut, ash, cherry, and padauk with end grain walnut and ash strips in between these pieces. There are a lot of glue-ups and it's important to keep everything aligned during each glue-up, but it's pretty straightforward otherwise.

Beautiful board! Also enjoyed seeing the iron ring
Leo is a great help 👍 lovely to see kids enjoying and being interested in woodworking. Reminds me of myself as kid with my dad in his workshop. I learned so much 👍 nicely done 👍
Great looking board. Nice to see you have the grandson with you, But I am concern on how many times you put you hands in harm way of the saw and band saw. Please be carefull. Thank you for shareing your technique.
Of all the cutting board videos out there. This one has to be the dopest design.
You have a little man helping you that is why you make beautiful work.
Another beautiful & artfully done piece of work. Thanx a multimillion for sharing.
Gotta love the hearing protection on your helper. My granddaughter’s are pink. She always wears them when we turn anything on. Great teaching early.
Hallo, Du bist der beste Schneidbrett Hersteller den ich gesehen habe. einfach Klasse!
Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus Germany
I really appreciate channels like yours where you're creating beautiful, professional pieces in a shop that seems designed for building things. You obviously have some nice equipment mixed in but it's nice to also see some tools like the Delta miter saw and lunchbox planer in there. Content that focuses on the art of building something rather than one big Festool & Sawstop ad. Love the videos I've learned a lot from you !
Thank you. Yes, I try to be practical when acquiring tools and try not to go overboard with spending. For example, I use my miter saw primarily for rough cutting lumber, so I prioritized space saving vs. precision and that helped keep the cost down.
Lol there's still over 20k in tools there.
@@oldhess Not sure what your point is. Should someone who's a woodworker NOT invest in good tools to make their product better?
@@oldhess Good tools are definitely worth it, but it's not the tools that make the difference, it's the person using the tools.
@@oldhess I spent more than that on my CNC, but worth every penny I spent. Mine also has included a verticle workstation for working on the ends of pieces, and a turning center that does not mount on the table top, but is on the side of table - 10" diameter x 50" long capability.
Appreciate the full build video, thanks for the helpful tips!
Yes! Great board. Love your shop.
Definitely adding this style to the list!
I’m gonna make it.
Beautiful work as always.
Beautiful board and I like you speak well and are easy to hear. The music is not overpowering. Yes, I wood make this. Liked, subscribded.
Amazing! My new favorite cutting board!
Good Lord! That’s spectacular!!! I’m going to copy your plan for my father’s next birthday. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t find this video before Christmas this year. You have no idea how many siblings I have- all of whom will adore this sensational cutting board.
I’m loving the background music
*Wow!!! This has to be the BEST looking cutting board I have ever seen!!!*
Nice to see your helper in the shop and wearing hearing protection. However, I think training him to wear safety glasses will go a long way when he gets older. Great work. You can tell you must have put in a lot of planning for this pattern.
ABSOLUTELY! I just wonder what this would sell for on the internet! I've seen lots of cutting biards just slammed together and they charge a fortune! This, IS WOOD ART and I don't think people would use it as much as display it!
Beautiful workmanship!
Great process and great video.
Wow, looks great.
Looks nice, well done!
The board looks absolutely awesome Nice Job.
That is to beautiful to use. You do very nice work.
Yessir, that is very beautiful! I would love to make it! Thank you for sharing how you made it.

Absolutely beautiful, maybe some day I will attempt it.
That was amazing! Yes, I would make it!
As a woodworker, I'm hooked! The craftsmanship, design and final product are top notch. Your production quality is right up there too. Lighting, flow, narration, camera placement...even the music. Bravo! Subscribed.
Thank you so much!!
What a fantastic cutting board, Mike. I love the attention to detail, my friend, and the colors of the wood are perfect. You are the master of the cutting board. I also find your video is very creative with great focus. Keep coming with more content.
Thank you for sharing on the platform. Felix
I love your projects...With me, the question isn't would you make it? but Can you make it? With your inspiration and calmness I will answer Yes! Thanks and can't wait for more.
Very nice. A great project to post for the rest of us.
Very pretty!
Yes, I would make it. Hopefully it would come out as beautiful as your boards did. Awesome project. you do beautiful work.

Best helper EVER!
A good display workmanship.!
This is amazing. Yes I am thinking about making a plaid one because of this. 👍🏼
Just what I was looking for. Thanks brother
Hi, Mike. Your job is excellent. Your little helper takes safety seriously.
Beautiful board, I would have never thought you could make plaid. The boards turned out beautifully!
everything well aligned. very well done sir.

Beautifull job. Amazing skills. You just inspired me !!
Gorgeous!!!
Once the oil hit the board and the colours popped.
Great video.
Thank you so much for sharing your video with us!! I recently made two of these plaid boards. And, they came out magnificently! They are the talk of the town! Thank you again!
Very nice indeed. Lots of cutting, gluing and sanding, but well worth it!! Keep up the good work.
The Musics in your vídeos are very beautiful and tasteful as their creative and excellently executed works of art.
Now that's how you do a plaid end grain board! I've seen other variations where people use face grain strips and they all seem like they'll fail eventually.
Very nice board really good job keep the video's coming
A very beautiful board indeed. This is surely worth the time and effort to make. Really enjoyed the music as well. Thank you for sharing.
Very nice, and I'm glad you demonstrated the utility of using the metric system. I, too, have made the switch and am glad I did.
Very labor intensive but well worth the effort! Well Done!
Thank you this was great. Great music as well
That's a good looking board! Your experience with chessboards no doubt makes this a simpler project. Well done!

Very creative 👍🏻
nice craftmanship there sir. like the way you work and not relying most of that on CNC as some others do.
Beautiful!!!!
1 word.. Exquisite!!
It looks like every piece of furniture in my grandpa's house, which means you did an excellent job!
It’s beautiful
Wow, very impressive. You have an immense amount of patience, with all those glue-ups.

Amazing. Enjoyed the video. I’m a wood turner but have recently started building traditional stuff and cutting boards are one thing I’m working on. New subscriber here.
Nice work man. beautiful board. I will definitely try this. I want your bandsaw too. LOL that thing went through that walnut like it was butter.
This is so beautiful, it kind of reminds me of a Scottish Tartan
Ты очень творческий и терпеливый человек ! Мне нравится твоя композиция ! Привет из России !
Love the tunes
The plaid cutting board was very well done. I am more impressed that someone of your skill level is willing to take the time to show in detail how to complete this project. Thank you for showing us less skilled woodworkers how we can challenge ourselves to try something new.
Thanks! I made the cutting board for the same person that I made this chess board for last year (ruclips.net/video/ipCyrXgr5RQ/видео.html), so I figured I'd put together a video to show how I went about doing it.
Nice shop !!!
Молодец! Хорошая работа!
I just completed 2 of these beautiful boards. They are the best things I’ve made so far! Very rewarding thank you!
