    Tottenham’s 11 remaining fixtures aren’t as bad as some might believe. Four of the games are against teams currently occupying the bottom four places in the league (12 points up for grabs there). Three of the games are against teams currently occupying the top three places in the league - but how many points have those three teams taken off Tottenham this season - two out of a possible nine! A trip to Newcastle and three away London derbies to round things off - I expect Tottenham to pass the 70-point mark and secure a top four slot.

      Cool, but not part of Ange's philosophy to look too far ahead. Why would he do it as a coach and manager? Academic exercises are great on these forums, but we all know the vagaries of the game make fortune telling a fun, but fruitless exercise.

      If the is one thing you can bet your house on, Ange will have a crack at Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City. There will be no sitting back and playing on the counter. I can see Spurs winning at least one of these three games with a fully fit squad.

    People say Spurs player investments have been great. Fair enough but players like Sarr, Porro and Bissouma were already there and not getting a look in but have been superb for the most part this year. So thats down to Conte not fancying them. The fact that Maddison, Van Der Ven, Vicario and Udogie are playing like the bees knees is down to the manager. If United had bought these lot they'd be playing like the rest of the United squad. United spend a fortune every year and then when it doesn't work out cry that they need more investment and new players. Postecogglou has done an amazing job with these guys and is bringing the best out in them. If we get European football next year we won't have trouble attracting players to the club. With the manager that we have and the style of football we play its all looking rosy.

  • @schrodickerLee
    @schrodickerLee 2 месяца назад +20

    At the end of the day it depends on what your definition of "backing the manager" is. Whatever happened to Poch stays in the past but if we're talking about financial spending here, then obviously Tottenham are never going to outspend the likes of Man City but also do keep in mind and I know you're sick and tired of hearing it but Man City have 115 charges. So if we're using Man City as the benchmark here according to Jordan who believes that Tottenham will have to spend at least 150 to stay within the top 4 and more to potentially win the league, then no, Postecoglou will never get that level of backing from Daniel Levy.
    But if you ask me do I think Levy will back Postecoglou then I think to a large degree my answer will be yes. Firstly, Postecoglou has mentioned it a couple of times now but he believes that unless you're bringing in a player like Bellingham or Mbappe, there isn't a huge difference in quality between a 40 mil player or a 80 mil player. Instead, he values personality and suitability of a player to his style of football which has been demonstrated by the likes of Maddison and VDV. Secondly, Postecoglou talked about how he wanted players in early before the Jan transfer window and Levy who would usually wait till the final hours of the Jan transfer window to bring in a player, brought in Werner and Dragusin within the first two weeks of Jan. That imo is a huge sign of his willingness to back the manager. Lastly, Postecoglou has shown that he can bring the best out of his players as long as they're willing to work hard for his philosophy. Richarlison, Bissouma and Porro are perfect examples, poor last season but have really improved this season, and they don't cost a 100 mil each. My point is, sure, dethroning City is not going to be an easy feat but if spending money is the quickest and easiest way to winning the league then Chelsea should be top of the league by now. You have to spend to compete with the likes of City but at the same time I don't agree with the sentiment "you have to match or best your oppositions' spending in order to beat them". I think as long as Postecoglou is given a decent sum to work with and he's able to get the kind of players he want preferably quick and early, that can be considered "backing the manager".

    • @davidharman3665
      @davidharman3665 2 месяца назад +3

      Yeah, it should be taken into account as well that Postecoglou has seemingly been given final say on the transfers as well. Obviously I’m sure Ange would want a Haaland or a Bellingham if a deal could be done. But Levy isn’t going to sign a player like a Pedro Neto or an Eze unless Ange has said “I’ll play him, he fits into my system”
      Ange has also recently said that he’d rather get 2 50 million players than 1, 100 million players if his budget was 100 million, so I think his philosophy complements Levy’s philosophy really well.

    For all those who follow Ange will know he does good business, that is, he doesn't go buying over the odds prices for players. Ange is more about bringing in players who will fit his game plan and want to be part of the team. He has no time for players who only think about themselves understanding it is a team that wins you things. You can already see Ange is strengthening the team by having multiple players for each position, granted he has a first and second choice. What has been proven is the second-string players are good enough to step up and fill the role if called upon. Just look at how Spurs performed when they had the suspensions and injuries. If Spurs should finish securing a CL spot, I'm sure Spurs will bring in a few players, but it won't be hundreds of millions. Ange will have already given Levy a wish list and negotiations will have already begun as Ange likes to get the business done quickly and not wait to the last minutes of the transfer window.

    “To be able to beat Manchester City (for the title) you need to be in a position where economically you would be able to do it”
    Even if this is a generalisation it feels overly pessimistic. Of course it’s unlikely to beat someone who has advantages over you, but I’d like to think that there is a possibility to outsmart someone tactically and through a process of building a highly motivated environment. Not that Pep in this instance is not good at that, but the overdog doesn’t always win. Leicester is the freak example to look at.

      I hear you, because it manages expectations as well, but if we got into the UCL it makes recruitment negotiations 10x easier and that alone is worth it, as we're already shopping smarter these days without the clout of the biggest games to sell the project.
      Getting into the top competition, whilst we're also being run well on the recruitment side, plus have a manager that is getting the best from the characters in the dressing room and aligning the whole club; that would be the holy trinity for our prospects in the second season.

    We have no excuses to not get it. We have had way less games than other sides around us. No Europe and dropped out of the cups quite early. Manager was heavily backed and came in with a while pre season. Top 10 was a given as a bare minimum. It’s getting boring people trying to find excuses for everything this season when it goes wrong. We are out of the sides in that top 4 battle the strongest overall, Man U aren’t focused enough to put a run together (if they prove me wrong fair play) and Villa should be focused on UECL and try to win it. Top 4 is basically ours to lose.
    Villa game was the first decent result in a while, scoring goals and kept a clean sheet. A 9/10 game (first half wasn’t amazing from either side and against 10 men for a longish time hence it’s not a 10/10)

    They're talking about Pochettino not being supported financially after reaching that UCL final, which is tough to disagree with, but we're also making umpteen assumptions off the back of that and laying them all at Levy's feet. Yes, Poch wasn't supported, but it could've been for any number of reasons. 1 of the problems, for example, is it's all well and good saying you need to have a £100m player to fill in a specific squad position, but the more you're spending the more you're limiting your pool of potential players, and then you've got to convince them to leave, say, Real Madrid or wherever to come to Tottenham because we scraped our way to a UCL final in a year we were not that great in the league. THEN there's the fact that everyone seems to forget in that we were in the middle of building a £500m stadium, AFTER having already spent however many millions of pounds on a new training ground. Look how much Arsenal's stadium set them back, and they didn't spend anything like as much on it. I know Levy said it wouldn't effect transfers, but it MUST have effected transfers in respect to getting those £100m+ players Poch probably wanted. The board are probably thinking "we can still get 2 or 3 £30m players in" and Poch is probably thinking "I don't need any more £30m players, I need £80m+ minimum now to improve" but who knows. The point is, it isn't that simple. However, the other point is that, BECAUSE Levy didn't spend in 2019 or whenever it was Spurs are in a really strong financial position to spend now, with the financing for the stadium a little more secure with it actually making money now too, so if we DO find ourselves in a position again similar to 2019 I feel like Levy would be less concerned about supporting his manager. Levy gets a lot of stick but I do think that he is prepared to give the money for players the manager wants, but he isn't prepared to do it in a way which financially restricts the club. Fans will cry "we have the money' but Levy is the one looking at the books, not the fans, and he is the one with the financial knowledge.
