This is why I hate the unwritten rules of baseball. It doesn't matter how far ahead you are in a game, comebacks can always happen. When managers get mad at their own teams for violating these unwritten rules, I wish they would shut up. The only unwritten rule should be to try to score as many runs as possible.

Back in the 80s the Pirates were playing in Philly. Neither team was very good, but the Bucs sent _16_ batters to the plate in the first inning and put up a 10-spot. Their radio announcer said that if the Pirates lost this game, he was walking back to Pittsburg-which is 300 miles away. They ended up losing 15-10 and at the end of the season, he and a friend of his actually did the walk. Took them 12 days, but they raised something like $100,000 for charities in the Pittsburg area.

Mark Grant never walked from Alpine to Petco that I know of. He walked from Alpine to some other location. It would've taken him all day to walk from Alpine to Petco.

Good thing La Russa isn't the Padres manager. Doesn't his unwritten rules say, when you are down by 8, you lost so dont try. Just end it as soon as possible, and get to the bar. There are places to drive to.

    • @otaviofrnazario

The Padres are being very well regarded, among other factors, due to their youth.
A dinosaur of every sort like LaRussa wouldn't be a good fit for the team

I was 8 when the Padres beat the Cubs in the NLCS and I hated the Padres ever since, until this year. This is a fun team to watch. FYI, I always loved Tony Gwynn, even though my inner child was wounded by the Padres.

That Slam Diego moment will always be the moment I remember when the Nats NL run that started in the 2010's was officially over. Kinda started the rebuild right there. Wouldn't have CJ Abrams without that homerun I truly believe.
