      I can't disagree with you. I got bored of baseball around '05 and fell off. Seeing Otani in the WBC where he struck out trout to win it was my first glimpse of him. Then I went down a rabbit hole on his game and he single handedly got me interested again

    I remember watching that Shohei game live (there was nothing else on TV that day and I’m a Braves fan) before he became a huge star. I watched him pitch earlier in the game, then I remember yelling in excitement when he hit that HR. It was his 2nd of the season and he would hit way more that same season. Just the sound of his hit was like a gunshot. Before I clicked this video I KNEW this clip had to be in here.

      I’m saying this was his 2nd HR of the season. Nobody would have thought he would hit 46 HR that season.
      I had never heard of him before his home runs started flowing in. That’s what I meant by before he was a star.

    The crack of the bat is asmr for baseball fans around the world, it's sounds like a mix of fireworks and lighting together, especially the amount of power these baseball players swing with is mind blowing, when the bat and baseball connect together it's like a pop of sparks.

    The loudest crack I’ve ever personally heard was will Clark at Atlanta in 1987- second was the big cat in 1998 at Atlanta

      Galarraga was a beast. I grew up loving the Rockies and tried (and failed) to swing like him. Never got to see him in person, but 97 v Kevin Brown was a moon shot.

    Obviously, the Ohtani homer is insane, but they also mic the Sunday night games up to amplify the bat sound. I think Sean Murphy’s might be the best, overall… I would’ve loved to hear that baby with the Sunday night mics. Shit sounded frighteningly powerful 🥵

    ESPN's coverage of all sports usually sucks. But the one thing they do better than any other network is the crack of the bat "perfect perfect" sound. It's hypnotic.

    I think the crack has more to do with the broadcast microphones than the actual sound…I’m sure most hard hit balls sound like these, unless hit on the sweet spot (which is quieter).

    Dont get me wrong, these pops are seriously loud like holy crap they are loud. But has anyone noticed that most of the early clips are from games back during 2020 when a certain "social distancing" problem was happening? The stadiums are empty most of the time. Now the cracks with lots of people? Damn! Those are loud as hell. And honestly, Shohei is a different breed of baseball player.
