One thing that concerns me about living in central Portugal is the need to drive everywhere. How dependent on a car would someone be living in a town like Alpedrinha? or Fundão? I do what to thank you for this organized presentation and especially the way you orient us to the physical locations and relations of the towns. The footage and honest commentary ain't bad either! :)
Hey 👋 we live near Fundão and we do use our vehicles a lot but that’s because we like to explore. Fundão has everything you could need though (in our opinion) so it could be possible to walk or use a push bike if you lived in the city 😃 there’s a guy that lives in our village who we sometimes give lifts to into Fundão he gets around ok.
@@jonnyandsamofficial was going to say that a gas-sipping motorcycle might be good too. Looks like you two are already there. I think a Honda NC750 would be a great choice if one can transfer a high-capacity motorcycle driver's license to Portugal. But I also know from a December trip up north that rain and snow would make a car indispensable a few months of the year unless one were pretty close to a stocked town.

From my village, I walk 5 minutes trough a forest to the nearest bus stop that will take me as far as Lisbon (Orient) and Lisbon airport. Direct trip in less than 2 hours. Several bus services daily. From Lisbon airport I've flown everywhere in the globe. You don't need a car, you can have very good quality of life without one specially if you live solo without dependents. Check long distance routes and connections, they exist, and they'll take you anywhere you wish to go.

The central Portugal is very interesting. Who does not want to make a bargain when bying a property? But for me the winterweather is very important. I am planing to avoid the terrible Swedish winters and stay somewhere in the sun in Portugal during the wintermonths. So finding a bargain will be tough, unfortunally, since the South is the only option for me. But, looking forward to your next video.
Be cautious about the home building standards in Portugal. You will be warmer in a Swedish home than a Portuguese one! So many are pitifully constructed! Hard to cool in Summer and expensive to heat in Winter.
@@maxflight777 Thanks for the warning. I've heard that the building rules changed so apartments buildt after 2016 would have better insulation and 2-glass windows. I don't know if that is true so i have to check that further before i buy anything.
Being cold *outside* in the winter wouldn’t bother me at all, especially if it’s sunny - but I don’t think I could live in a house that was cold *inside* in the winter.
@@AlgarveAddicts Thanks for the great videos. I have friend moving to Faro in October and I think I'm on my way to Portugal in a couple of years as well. I like the Algarve best because of the climate. The only thing I didn't care for was the ocean temperature. You can really swim there because the water is so cold. The people are amazing.

We are really mountain people as that is where we grew up but I think renting in a quieter area of the Algarve may be a good place to be for a while. This would give us a chance to get by with some English and make some preliminary adjustments to the culture.

In procsss of buying a nice hectare in central potugal (coimbra the third city cos far less hilly!) and leaving Spain. dont have money for a home on it yet haha will deal with that next... , I just wanted a nice plot and the home is really of secondary importance. I might put a coupleof glamping tents on it to raise a few euros

If you enjoy nature, then you'll find it there. This week, the weather is expected to be rainy, so it will be humid and perhaps less hot.

I'd say you'd definitely need a car in a country location like these spots. Without doubt.

Yes winter isn't that wonderful up in the centre, you'll need a well insulated home.

Check the legalities before you do it. It's often a complicated affair. Even tents.

I would guess that the further out you go, the less they speak English. That would be a big issue for me.
