This is a clip from the 1990/1991 television film, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? starring real-life sisters Lynn & Vanessa Redgrave. It has been mostly forgotten due to the many negative comparisons of it to the original film starring Bette Davis & Joan Crawford. This film was not just a remake, but a retelling of the story. The emotions and events are very different and I believe this film is as great as the original. Lynn Redgrave's portrayal of Jane Hudson is phenomenal, as you will see from these clips. I wanted to post these in memory of her - she just passed away this week and there was nothing here on RUclips of her great performance as Baby Jane Hudson. RIP Lynn.......8 March 1943 2 May 2010

It's wonderful to find people who appreciate this film as much as I do. So many people write it off as a poor remake...so very sad.The DVD is not too hard to find. There are copies on Amazon and eBay most of the time. I would love to post more scenes of the film, but I do not have software that will allow me to anymore.

This was an excellent remake. One would think it would be impossible to pull it off but the real sibling element really did it justice. Daddy would approve!

For a remake of a classic and bringing the plot somewhat more up to date this movie was mediocre at best. The original film and the actresses playing the roles of Jane (Davis) and Blanche (Crawford) were far more convincing. These two woman loathed one another in real life and they brought that sense of dislike to their roles...particularly Bette Davis.
I don't see it as a remake, I see it as a different version, an update to the original perhaps, but not a remake since there have been plenty of changes to the original, and that's according to the director's point of view.
You're comparing the version you like to a version you prefer to hate instead of respect. This version has drama, this version has GREAT ACTORS (The Redgrave sisters are LEGENDARY - Go search for their achievements), this version is dark, this version is how many of us pictured Blanche and Baby Jane in the 90's, and this movie was LOW BUDGET, but even as a low budget production, it was an amazing version. You should see it again trying not to compare, and learn to respect the work other people have done to this story. XOXO BYE

I agree..redgrave played so many more layers...redgrave comes across as much sadder and lost...and as much as i love joan the interpretation of vanessa was more multidimencional in the original blanche seemed to good to be true...

Well, finally Blanche is no longer much of the passive idiot she was in the original. It took a real actress like Vanessa to pull it off. The problem with Crawford was she always put image first before character.
