This is a clip from the 1990/1991 television film, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? starring real-life sisters Lynn & Vanessa Redgrave. It has been mostly forgotten due to the many negative comparisons of it to the original film starring Bette Davis & Joan Crawford. This film was not just a remake, but a retelling of the story. The emotions and events are very different and I believe this film is as great as the original. Lynn Redgrave's portrayal of Jane Hudson is phenomenal, as you will see from these clips. I wanted to post these in memory of her - she just passed away this week and there was nothing here on RUclips of her great performance as Baby Jane Hudson. RIP Lynn.......8 March 1943 2 May 2010

From what i can see in these clips alone, Lynn Redgrave just did her actor's homework SO thoroughly and then worked moment to moment, action outrunning thought every step of the way. I find her FASCINATING.
Seems like this version might be worth seeing. On another note, just seeing a video store is very nice and nostalgic
Video stores are pretty much extinct these days. The rush of going to a video stores and carrying those tapes back home and rewinding the tape..... Memories

This is my favorite scene from the film! How can anyone watch this scene and not feel something for Jane?! Just heartbreaking.......Lynn Redgrave is a genius in this role!
The fact that this movie has a lot of haters makes me love it EVEN MORE. I wouldn't compare this movie to the original, I see it as a different version of the same story.
The only thing I would change is some background music, and that fat baby woman when Jane's booed at the talent show, other than that, the movie has EVERYTHING I NEED: great actors, a lot of drama, great enphasis on Baby Jane and Blanche's epic moments; the movie itself is pretty dark, and Baby Jane's wardrobe and make up are amazing when it comes to deliver such a character like her in the early 90's. This wasn't a high budget movie, JEEZ, these people throwing tomatoes to such an UNIQUE PIECE of a movie, with such mediocre reasons... LIKE... OMG.
This is MY FAVOURITE MOVIE EVER, E V E R. And the more people hate it, the more awesome I know it actually is.

I really like this remake, I'm gonna try and get a vhs or dvd version on ebay, most scenes seem familiar to me like I see it along time ago but it's all coming back to me and I'm 35 now

This is great, i'm such a big big fan of the original film, its good to see it from another perspective! I'd love to watch the entire film as i never have!! I only just found out about this remake tbh! Thanks for posting!
This is one of the better scenes I think, but if they were toning back Baby Jane's personality to make her more subtle, why were they so over the top with her costume? The costume in the original was pretty grotesque but without being over the top. Here they made Baby Jane look like a cartoon drag queen.
I do like this scene however. The original Baby Jane had flashes of innocence/humanity but they were quite subtle, so it's nice that this scene humanises her more clearly.
How come I never heard of this re-make!. Baby Jane is my all time favorite film. And who could have thought that anyone of any substance would have THOUGHT to do a modern re-make!, thought Perfect idea.! and The Redgrave sisters OMG!. How fabulous is THAT! I GOTTA see the WHOLE THING!
@dtrooper101 I'm so glad you discovered this!!! Yes, it is a great remake and VERY rare. It's hard to track down as well. Keep an eye on eBay and Amazon for copies. It's well worth the price. Wish I could post the whole film on here.

@Mad4Mirren I'm so glad you found it! Did you watch all 6 clips? You should try to track down the DVD - it's hard to find but worth it! I've seen copies on Amazon and eBay for around $20. I hope people will see these clips and give the film another chance. I know it's not Davis and Crawford, but I think it's a masterpiece in it's own right. It's hard to compare the two.

@dazdiver2222 I wish I could post the whole thing on here! You really should get a copy of the DVD - it's on Amazon & eBay. You should be able to get a copy under $20. It's well worth the price - I think it's a great film! So glad you found my clips. When Lynn passed away, I had to post these. I couldn't believe noone had posted anything from this film. I think she was awesome in this role.
10 years ago when there were still video stores in New York City, one could find this remake of Baby Jane on VHS tape for rental or purchase quite easily. I remember renting the VHS tape of this Baby Jane remake from my local video store. However, once the video stores closed it got harder to find films especially older obscure films like this one. Now that there are no video stores left one has to wait for someone to either post a rare film online or find it on e-bay or Amazon. So much for progress.
The editing...the directing...the outline...Just awful. The actors are the best part of this and they suffer through. I can't believe anyone could find this worthwhile.

It was a flop that's why it's out of print I guess you never seen the reviews on it people were embarrassed to say they even watched it it was SHIT
