    ORGANISING MY BEAUTY ROOM AND NEW HOMEWARE
    I have been loving being at home recently and slowly organising all the spaces we haven't had the time (or furniture) to be able to yet - including my beloved beauty and skincare products! I finally have the perfect cupboard/sideboard to be able to declutter and tuck everything away in it's own space and I'm so happy about it! I can't wait to get even more organised as time goes on :)
    As always a HUGE thank you to any brand that is kind enough to send me products/items to test out and a quick note to say that I am quite strict on taking in PR and don't accept anything without chatting with the brand first. I try as much as possible to avoid product/packaging waste and this also ensures that I am only receiving products that I genuinely would like to test out, feature and use :)

    This may come off weird, but its actually really refreshing that you didn't have perfectly matched baskets. there's no reason to not use things that are just lying around. And as much as we love matchy matchy and new things, its kinda nice to see someone not just go out and spend money on something that isn't exactly essential and is recycling and reusing (: so thank you!

    Depop is great as well because you reach a wider audience than a local charity shop. Gives those not in your area the opportunity to purchase the items. It’s also your career, don’t be afraid to do what works for you. You’ve earned it! x

    Personally I love to see you selling things on, I always check your page to see if any of the things I have seen that I love are on there and honestly have never questioned whether they are gifted or not. I have sold unwanted Christmas and birthday presents and never felt bad. You're trying and doing something for charity and your followers. Keep it up x

    Honestly while I kind of understand the argument of you selling gifted items I agree that your approach to selling on your gently used items to others is the best way. I feel like this approach is great especially because it keeps you that much more aware of what you’re parting with rather than just putting things in a bag and essentially making all the next steps someone else’s (charity shops) problems. Anyways keep up the great work ❤️❤️

    I understand why you sell your unwanted items instead of donating (and definitely agree), however I still feel items that were gifted should have 100% of proceeds going to charity minus postage costs! Just a suggestion!

    • @VictoriaMagrath

      Totally see your point lovely - only it’s taking someone lots of time to list everything online for others. If I was going to give all to charity I’d donate to a charity shop quickly myself - but again I see this as a way to make a much better donation that I know has been made in full x

    • @HelenHobden
      @HelenHobden 5 лет назад +26

      But you have to remember, the items weren't given to Victoria for a Christmas present - she is usually expected to work for it - even if it's just styling the item for an Instagram post or as part of a video to show us - that all takes time. Plus bloggers work for so many years completely for free to get to a point where they are gifted things - I feel they have the right to sell the items they've been given so make up some of that time!

    • @ArenaHairSolihull
      @ArenaHairSolihull 5 лет назад +6

      From the people I know in charity shops the staff and friends usually get first refusal on high end and for such a small cost too, so I don’t really think the charity gets the full worth of the item.

    • @natalien8612
      @natalien8612 5 лет назад +1

      @@VictoriaMagrath I understand not giving to a charity shop because something worth £500 could be sold for £5, but are you then making a profit on items that have been gifted to you that you sell on via depop?

  • @andrewjohnston1301
    @andrewjohnston1301 5 лет назад +17

    Personally I think it’s up to Victoria what she does with items that were gifted to her.
    Essentially the gifted items are Victoria’s payment for advertising them to us, her audience, so what she does with them after is her choice.

    Your dancing honey bees is fabulous! I'm partial to large scale art/decor. I find so many buy really tiny pieces until you end up having clutter just trying to fill a spot to make a statement! Instead of go big or go home... It should read: Go big when you go home! Scale is a challenge for many people when it comes to decorating their homes! Don't be afraid of big! You'll be making amazing statements if you embrace proper scale for your home!
    Love your chevron storage chest too! What a lifesaver that will be in corralling a majority of your beauty products! You might find clear lucite/plexiglass containers helpful. Some are even stackable, and will utilize the vertical space, as well as you can see what's inside more easily... especially helpful for the side with all the loaded cosmetic bags. Will definitely cut down on search time!
    Finally, selling your clothes where you can make a larger donation to a charity sounds like the best solution to me. Who would begrudge you making more money for a charity? Regardless if you paid for some item or it was a gift from a friend or PR group, it was given to you and is now your property to do with as you choose. And if you choose to sell it outright to make even more for charity, I say well done, you!

    Loved your chat about selling your items. The way I see it, it’s completely fine that you sell on gifted items you don’t want to keep. After all, they were given to you as a gift to do with as you wish. If you choose to keep them that’s up to you or if you choose to pass them on, that should be up to you too. They were given to you so it’s your choice! If you were gifted an item from a friend or a relative and then chose to sell it on later people would be fine with that so I don’t see why a brand gifts are any different.

    • @VictoriaYoutube12

      The only thing that i'd love to see with the gifted items, if maybe the entirety or a higher percentage went straight to charity. I love the entire idea, in the current world we tend to be consumers to an extreme and always in this more more more mindset, and I love reselling and giving something a second life. To some it seems odd to sell and make money off of it. Its almost like influencers not only get free things but basically get free cash too. And I think its the sheer volume of gifted items that set people off. I have seen other influencers give the profits of gifted items to charities and they keep the money from whatever they themselves purchased (or even out of kindness some give a portion of what they purchased as well as the entirety of gifted items). And with the price of the items, which as they are typically luxury should be higher, even if you kept a set-standard-fee for you doing the work to list it and ship it, I'm sure the percentage that went to charity would still be higher than if you just gave a percentage of the entire total.
      However, I do see other influencers who sell gifted item and their own items, and don't give a dime to charity which to me personally is a little greedy and turns me off from that particular influencer. So either way I do applaud you for doing something, as something is always better than nothing!

      Thanks for your opinion on this lovely, I'm happy with my donations right now as I unfortunately found when I gifted more expensive pieces to charity (a pair of Reiss leather trousers I gifted a couple of years ago for example) they were being sold for around £10 when they retail for around £400-£500. This way I can sell them on depop for what I see is the 'correct' amount, a fashion lover gets to re-wear and restyle them and a higher amount goes to charity because of it. My intake is a lot less than it used to be too with wanting to reduce my footprint, so you'll find not as many items as they're used to be on it :) Thank you! xx

I have had a B&O sound system for probably 17 years now it’s one of those cd memory ones that has the glass doors in front that you wave your hand and it slides open and it still looks modern to this day. I have bought Bose for other rooms etc and nothing compares in sound quality to the B&O, they’re just second to none and luckily my car has it too so I get to enjoy it. Have fun with yours 😊❤️ And just adding my two cents on your “selling” wether your gifted the pieces or not they’re yours, so they’re yours to do what you will with, you earnt them 🤷🏼‍♀️ anyways my opinion 😊x

    I have so much to unpack in this video. About your items in your new sideboard/cabinet, I have a ridiculous amount of notebooks, and I don't even work in an industry where I need as many notebooks that I have. Never feel bad about your items, not until you look under my bed. That way, you'll really not feel so bad. Alex unboxing things is now one of my favorite things. I really love Alex being in the vlogs. I am so in love with the speaker and I am not in the position to own a house, but I'm thinking about getting a speaker anyway. Also, I feel like you should do whatever you want about your items. It doesn't matter if it was gifted or not. It's yours and you're choosing to take out the middlemen and have control over how much money you're giving. No one is allowed to give you shit because of your personal decisions.

    Instead of getting baskets for your new credenza to store all your beauty products try some clear plastic bins. They take less room so you can store more and you can easily see what's in them. I get mine at HomeSense. Also,y ou could put another Sonos speaker in any room you want and it'll work with your current system.

    I do the same thing, have a travel ready basket with a bunch of makeup bags with different genres of things. As I haven't been traveling much lately, I decided to go through a phase where I use up all the travel items, many of which are going rancid and just need to be tossed.
    Also, please do this; Get a large 'charity" box where you toss all the beauty things you aren't going to use, such a beauty products, makeup, cleaners, makeup bags, barrettes, nail files, etc. Then once a year give it all away. If I can find a great box for packaging I'll use that for the "gift". This year I have a gift book bag size bag I'll be using. Ideal recipients are a center for teens, or a center for abused women, they love this at Christmas time. The box becomes a gathering point for the women, as well as gifts they cannot afford, as well as improving their self esteem. Please do this and talk to other people who have way more of this then we can ever use to do it too. It's been a huge, huge hit in the past!

      I give my unwanted completely unused beauty products to charity (I've cut down so much I don't have as much as I used to) and most recently to a wonderful one called wigs for heroes who created gift baskets for people undergoing cancer treatment so they can indulge themselves with some beautiful products :) xx

    I think selling your pieces is a great idea; Especially because it’s going to charity. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen you do giveaways but maybe doing one once in a while will satisfy those who have an issue with you selling your own things lol.. Please never feel guilty about your choices.. ❤️

    I’d consider a brand gift to be a prepayment for potential (not guaranteed) advertising that a brand may get, and I’m sure that’s how they would see it too? Why shouldn’t that product therefore be utilised in the way it was intended, then converted into money whilst *bonus* giving to charity? Sounds like a reasonable business model. Selling it online would further drive brand awareness and demand within a broader market as well, reaching consumers who wouldn’t necessarily access luxury goods new season or at full retail price. It’s a win-win-win-win-win for the brand, Vic, charity, environment, and us! 💁‍♀️

  • @joannemassey9933
    @joannemassey9933 5 лет назад +2

    I really don't see it as an issue that you sell gifted items. They belong to you, regardless of how they come into your possession; you work really hard and even if you sold things to keep the money, personally I believe you deserve it. You spend your money on a lot of items that can be seen as an investment to your brand since you share so much of them and your life with us. It's a lovely bonus that you donate some of it to charity and I totally agree with you that you are actually doing the charities a favour by selling and donating directly. A lot of charity shops aren't really aware of the value of a lot of the things that are donated to them x

    • @VictoriaMagrath
      @VictoriaMagrath  5 лет назад +1

      I agree on not being aware of the value lovely, I mentioned below to another individual that a pair of Reiss leather trousers I gave to a charity shop that retail for around £400-£500 depending on the style were sold for around £10 and it broke my heart when so much more could have been raised for charity! xx
