I'm now out of a job for the foreseeable future as I work in tourism on a Mediterranean island. We are confined to home and this is day 7 of total lockdown. I am certainly NOT offended by Vic's comment on buying a second home! Good for her! Let's all be reasonable, some people are in a better situation than others. I am, I own my own home but many are less fortunate and are homeless. Let's just be kind to each other. This won't last forever and we all should have dreams and goals. Thankyou Victoria for a chance to escape for a few minutes from the chaotic world we live in. ♥️♥️♥️

Debbie Vidal I’m glad Victoria is making plans for the future. I have a few properties myself which I rent out, in fact I won’t be taking rent until this crisis is over. It’s good to progress. It’s the timing that’s all but we are not perfect and that is what makes us human. Hurting people is not my style. It’s just important to remember where we are at the moment. Keeping moral up is very important and Victoria is doing a great job. No hurt was intended and if I have hurt Victoria then I apologise because that’s the last thing I want. Take care all ✌🏻

I am absolutely smitten with your glorious new bedroom mirror! It is complete perfection in and of itself, but in your bedroom with all your spectacular architectural details and your beautiful bed... it’s beyond stunning! I’m a lovely shade of sea foam green-with-envy to have that mirror! 😉☺️😊💚
Regarding another house... I think it’s a brilliant idea!! Since I’m across the pond, I can’t give you recommendations on areas, but I was in the real estate industry back, baaack in the day, plus I have a little life experience! If this is going to be a labor of love and taking a dilapidated property from falling down to fabulous, I would find something in an area you love and where you want to go often to “get away” from day-to-day life. I would not rent out something you spent A LOT of your hard-earned money, your blood, sweat, tears and love restoring! Not all renters are as respectful of other’s property! Not only would their damages make you furious but would also break your heart. For this type of transformation (which could take years with your business schedule) I would keep it for yourself, family and dear friends.
If you’re just looking for an additional revenue stream, buy a property that might need a bit of a refresh, but not a total gut job. Make sure it’s safe, proper wiring up to code, yadda, yadda, yadda and make it really cute, but don’t put more into it than you can get out of it. Don’t over improve it for the area in case you end up wanting to sell it! But keep in mind kitchens and bathrooms can make properties more desirable... or undesirable... and of course, are the most expensive to renovate!
Or here’s a little mash up... buy a property in an area you would want to enjoy regularly, fix it up nicely, spend your time off there but get on a “vacation rentals” program where other people would be able to rent it for short-term stays for their holidays, while they are building a new home, or are there often on business, etc. There are companies that do this and coordinate all the bookings, do the regular maintenance, and maid service, etc. They keep track of the rental finances and send you your portion minus their monthly fees. And whenever you want to stay there, you just “book/block out ” your time so it can’t be rented to others. You can have locked areas (closets or entire rooms), with your personal belongings you don’t want to haul back and forth every time, but you don’t want renters to be able to access. The rest of the house is open to the renters and fully stocked with everything anyone would need to live there for several weeks or months. From cheese graters to zesters, coffee makers to carafes, juice glasses to wine glasses, trivets to toilet plungers, and of course an attractive decor... but nothing too precious as accidents do happen. It provides revenue and a nice little get away for you too!
There are all sorts of other options as well. You need to decide if this is ultimately for you, solely a revenue stream, future retirement home, your favorite vacation spot in the UK... who knows? It can be a combination or something else. But when life becomes more normalized, you may need to hire someone to manage the property if you’ll be a full fledged landlord, because you’re gone so much with work. Regardless what you decide on how you want to use the property, real estate is usually a sound investment... depending how much you have to put into it, interest rates, closing cost and how soon you can get all those expenses back out of the property. Your financial advisor can figure out how long you need to own the property after you’ve figured in all your expenses to be able to make a decent profit, should you want to sell.
My first major at University was Interior Design, so I adore any and everything decor related! Having a project like this would be the dream if you have the discretionary income and the time to manage it all! But being a landlord can be challenging. Finding people who treat your house like it was their own home can be difficult. Someone needs to be on call to fix random things. Sometimes the damage is more than their deposit. It’s a real crap shoot, but you can incorporate verbiage in the lease that you will be by periodically to do regular maintenance and you can check to see if they are good renters or if the place has been disrespected.
Some things to consider... with the current world pandemic, financial markets tanking, people unable to work, there are sadly going to be a whole lot of homes to purchase in the coming months... and this will definitely be the most advantageous time to buy. In a fantasy world, it would be lovely to have enough money to buy some of the foreclosures and let-to-buy to the people who used to own them until they can get back on their feet. But I doubt a lot of money moguls are magnanimous enough or willing to do such a thing. Just wishful thinking on my part!
There’s so much to consider and I would personally hold off for a bit. Firstly, you don’t need to be touring random stranger’s home who could be carriers or infected with this virus. Secondly, our world has no normal right now. It could be challenging to impossible to get necessary supplies to make needed renovations. You may want to ride this out and see how we are all affected before making any purchases. But that doesn’t stop you from online “window shopping” in the meantime. You may want to track several favorite properties to see how fast the price reductions happen or search for foreclosures. The banks don’t want to be in the real estate business.
Okay, I think my novel is finished for now. 😉😉😉 There’s a lot to think about but people will always need a roof over their head, so real estate is generally a great investment, if you buy wisely! I hope you’ll find something you can enjoy fixing up for whatever end capacity! Big squeezes! 🤗🤗🤗 Stay safe, be diligent and do you part to #flattenthecurve!!! 😘🥰😍🥰😘

The situation right now is just horrifying, it's hard to put into words. I'm more referring to how a lot of people are finding social media quite an anxious place to be right now with so much information being shared some of which isn't always correct. I'm leaving the important things to the professionals and after asking what people would like to see from me the overwhelming response from people was positivity so that's exactly what I'm aiming to do xx

Please don’t buy to let, not a great idea being a landlord, believe me I’ve been there! There was one point I owned eight, plus a hotel and restaurant and at times it was a nightmare. My advise to you, is buy, remodel and flip immediately, or buy to use for yourself, family and fiends only.

I work in property - not in the UK, sadly - and I just want to say that if you want to buy a home now, you might want to be a bit cautious. A lot of the world’s economies are in interesting situations right now (to put it lightly). This means the housing markets are likely to follow these falls in roughly three months or so (could be a little earlier even). While this is good for buying, it does mean a lot of potential sellers may choose to hold off so there won’t be as much stock on the market. That being said, if you do want to buy, I’d really make sure you’re really, really sure about your economic position as we head towards a potential recession. Hope this helps xx

I have been involved in real estate investments for the last 8 years. Most of them have been fixer upers to either rent or resell. Being in the US I don't now much about the British real estate market but my number one advice would obviously be to make sure and buy it right so there is enough profit margin in the end. Another thing I have found is to find one that is close to you if its not going to be a vacation home or something for yourself. Having property far away is a nightmare, don't ask me how I know lol. Best of luck!

Real estate is always a great thing to do because property, even if it fluctuates is always something that is a good investment. As population grows, there are less and less things to choose from. I could see you doing up old Victorian/Edwardian/or maybe even older homes, Victoria. There are so many of those properties, especially in the UK, that are needing renovations and I believe the government is supportive of those that want to do it, perhaps even financially. Something to check into, but I could definitely see you doing that or maybe even a Victorian in another country.

my family have a cottage in Northumberland up in the Cheviot hills near the coast, it's an absolutely gorgeous part of the world and relatively cheap compared to other stereotypical 'holiday cottage' areas. We let it out with a high end holiday cottage company and have a cleaner and gardener to keep up the daily jobs, though we still go up at least 5 times a year to re-do decor and furniture etc. It's been pretty much fully booked for the past few years with the trend of 'stay-cations' really helping. We always make sure we have the odd week free for us and the family and often spend Christmas or New year up there. Highly recommend going into the holiday cottage business, the best part is you can constantly change things up to keep guests coming back and reviews up! Love your videos, stay safe ❤️

You should get a house in Paris! You got married in France and you are in Paris a lot for fashion weeks and vacations you could find an old house and fix it up like you were talking about, and you would have the perfect vacation home in a place that means a lot to you both as a couple!!

Love the mirror and other bits for the home. For the black, flat candleholders, you may want to put some tan felt or something at the base b/c sometimes there could be color transfer on the mantle. Great vlog!
