Solid review, just what I was looking for: a review by someone who isn't a complete battletech/mechwarrior fanatic. So many of the hardcores are way too biased to review this game fairly and point out the warts, or the shiny spots so thank you for doing both. I want to play it but I can wait for Steam release.
@@GhostCow from what I recall, keyboard and mouse has always worked better. Especially mouse aiming. MW3 especially as well. I remember MW2 +Mercs having bad mouse support in general, so it makes sense to me that after perfecting it, it's more attuned to a mouse. Yea I hate to admit it, this is the first game I bought on EPIC. I told myself I should just wait until it comes out on steam but I'm such a hardcore fan of the old MechWarriors and I loved Battle Tech that came out last year, I just had to buy it.
Oooh...Pirhania GAMES. For a couple minutes there I thought about Pirhania BYTES and was amazed that they went so much outside their niche comfort zone
First time I've ever heard one of your reviews. I'm very impressed. You speak quickly enough to keep things moving but your diction is excellent. Well done!
The only way they wouldn't release Clan Invasion DLC is if they (Piranha Games) either a) Want to prove their incompetence literally knows no bounds or b) They want to make a full release and milk us for more c-bills (and Epic for more exclusivity deals)
HBS's Battletech is probably the closest to that. I have it with the Season Pass and am still playing it 800 hours later. I am a huge Battletech fan though so that is a part of that as well :). That said, I also have Front Mission 3 and 4 so I am a fan of that type of play. I would love to see a remake of one of those or a new entry in the series all together.
From what I heard in many videos. I agree for the music. While I loved the tracks in MW4 Mercenaries. I always hoped one day the series would go back to the absolute perfection of MW2 soundtrack. It gave the game a whole different feeling.
Yeah the MW2 series had fantastic music, I still play em regularly and find myself humming tracks way too often. Still have CD's and MP3 rips , they were also on Spotify (gone? still there?).
I might just have to pick up a good HOTAS setup and just throw myself right in. I loved mechwarrior 2 back in the day and now that same feel is in the 21st century.
Soooo, it’s Battletech, only different perspective. Love it!! Used to play MechWarrior all the time. Pumped to play this. Thanks for the awesome review
Grab a couple of mods... better spawns, better laser effects, and realistic ballistic velocities. Makes a good game great! Will really come into its own if they do a clan invasion dlc. I want my Vapor Eagle 3 and advanced tactical missiles.
So this is pretty much exactly what I expected from the release of this game, a bit of effort across the board but no polish. Great review as always, will take your advice and wait for a sale.
I've never played a Mechwarrior in my life. All I remember is that this was one of the games I wanted to play so fucking badly as a kid, but I had no money even though we did have a PC back at home. Ended up forgetting about the franchise when I grew up, kinda sad. And now this one is EPIC exclusive for a year. A year from now and I might just forget about the franchise again.

Oho, been waiting to see what you thought about this game. It was an automatic refund and wait for sale when they switched to Epic midway. Halo, POE2 and DOS2 will keep me busy till 2077 drops.
I can't believe they *still* haven't added a mechanic for a mech to get toppled. A grappeling hook for pulling lights and mediums off their feet and then a deathstomp to crush their cockpits as they lie squrming on the ground - that's what my kingcrab needs.
All the times I've found myself with half of the OPFOR company on my ass because the others are doing left turns around the map. It'll be just like old times.

'Mechs are powered by fusion engines, pal. No diesel, no nothing with carbon chains. What you smell burning... is probably just some wiring and a very small piece of meat.
@@GewalfofWivia ever see Apocalypse Now?? my joke fits
@@GewalfofWivia Depends on what era of mechwarrior you operate in. ICE engine mechs are actually a thing, iirc.
@@lord6617 I mean... industrial mechs have ices, but unless you're in Dark Age, I'm pretty sure they're never actually used
Anyone remember Armoured core 4? That was a wicked game
Still have 1 and 2 for the ps1, still good though they have some bugs
Legit 4 is my fav of the franchise. I wish they would be backwards compatible... I'd love to do some blading duels again haha
Ill wait for steam then. If they add the ability to punch with a banshee.
nope. still no melee interaction. but be prepared for your lrm ppc build AI to go face huge something with his 1 machine gun.
ive been playing mechwarrior for thirty years, and finally being able to walk around outside the mech is so thrilling...so far i just played the tutorial level, but im digging it so far
this is a definitely buy, when it's properly released and patched in 6(?) months i think.
so pretty much just wait for the steam release
Give it a year... It's Piranha Games.
Plus you may get it on Steam then...
Yeah, 1 year unfortunately... probably get it however you can, then buy on Steam.
@@jong2359 oh, i am seeding every exclusive on epic (that has been cracked) indefinitely, even if i end up buying some of the titles :) i just don't need to pirate for myself, i can pay for some of the things i enjoy.

Ashmodai waiting for it on steam was exactly what i meant when i said "properly released and patched" :D
All this mech action has me itching for some new miniatures.

Fuuuuck when he mentioned chrome hounds it brought me back
That game was great untill we found out you could just win every match without even fighting the enemy.. just lob artilery on all possible base spawn points and win
When he got to the part about mission planning i thought he was showing footage from the recent Battletech game.
I've been itching to hear what you had to say about this. From what people said about the Beta made me nervous.
After the beta and shitty ui, heres hoping that a modding scene develops.
He pretty much confirmed what I was seeing, not a terrible game but lots that can be improved.
So sick of poor AI.
I can remember when developers were bragging about the ai they created .
Seems like game devs do not care about ai anymore which ruins immersion .
Tired of whack a mole gaming .
Agreed it's sad that games that were released 10+ years ago have better ai than most games now.
AI has never been all that good, people are just better at spotting it nowadays.
@@shinryusaiha oh look, I found the pissed fan boy. The enemies literally froze up in the air. You can't really defend that mate. It's just shitty AI.
@@hombreg1 Then again, after playing years of MW:O, i would say the AI acts as shitty as humans tend to do. So maybe its TOO good. ;)
cus it's all about gfx these days, eww make it purdy, nobody cares about the technical side, AI or mission structure etc
I mean more universally, to me games like GTA and RDR are just more graphically impressive than they are enjoyable at least to me...
Halo 4 and 5 also look impressive visually but are vapid from a story POV and most modern games are like this
Even if I'm not interested in the game I still watch your review videos.it's the entertainment factor and how much thought and time you put into these that draws me in. Plus being a longtime MechWarrior fan this was a no-brainer to watch
armored core spoiled me i want more mech games. This looks decent to try
That’s why I’m here, did you play it? How was it ?
That Lucy Liu meme dude, I needed that. Thanks.
Lucy Liu rubbing someone's head? Something I didn't know I needed until I saw it...
I just can't wait to use my HOTAS to play this game. Just like I did wayyyyy back when Mechwarrior 2 and 3 were around.
Some of my favorites
Hold yer horses matey. Demo didn't support any kind of HOTAS.
Thank God it's a single player game and I don't have to get matched with people attempting to aim with a joystick like mwo lol
Sadly keyboard and mouse is superior in this and MWO. It's not like the earlier mechwarrior games
@@GhostCow from what I recall, keyboard and mouse has always worked better. Especially mouse aiming. MW3 especially as well. I remember MW2 +Mercs having bad mouse support in general, so it makes sense to me that after perfecting it, it's more attuned to a mouse. That being said, hell yeah I want better HOTAS support for this. (Apparently it's bad)
I think it comes down to one thing. Are you obsessed with mechwarrior/ battle tech ? Then your gonna love it.
Yea I hate to admit it, this is the first game I bought on EPIC. I told myself I should just wait until it comes out on steam but I'm such a hardcore fan of the old MechWarriors and I loved Battle Tech that came out last year, I just had to buy it.
When you included Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angels rubbing someone's head, I felt that
Oooh...Pirhania GAMES. For a couple minutes there I thought about Pirhania BYTES and was amazed that they went so much outside their niche comfort zone
Got a like just because he mentioned "Robo Jox"
You said it dude! Love all 3 of those movies!
Chainsaw crotch FTW!
One can never get enough of Lucy Liu...
Hold up, where Lucy Liu??
By far the most enjoyable and informative review of this game só far. Karak does it again.
First time I've ever heard one of your reviews. I'm very impressed. You speak quickly enough to keep things moving but your diction is excellent. Well done!
Really hope we get Clan invasion DLC at some point. I think the game timeline goes til just before 2049 and first Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere
I honestly feel like thats the way we are going
The only way they wouldn't release Clan Invasion DLC is if they (Piranha Games) either a) Want to prove their incompetence literally knows no bounds or b) They want to make a full release and milk us for more c-bills (and Epic for more exclusivity deals)
3049* ;p
Please no, clan nonsense ruins every version of Battletech.
This is on console now....havnt played mechwarrior in about 18 years. So hyped
I wish Front Mission games got remade. I loved loading out my mechs and playing chess. Lol
There’s grass. Never seen grass in a mech game.
It's also as tall as a bigfoot
Wait until you see the first drop ship land and take off and notice those square sprites that are supposed to represent debris. :-(
Someones never played titan fall
@@slothonmercury titans are this series version of battle armor. These are mechs. No comparison
I might just have to pick up a good HOTAS setup and just throw myself right in. I loved mechwarrior 2 back in the day and now that same feel is in the 21st century.
Robot Jox reference!! Yes, I love that movie!
I know I thought I was the only one who remembered that movie lol. Haven’t seen it since I had it on VHS.
I caught the reference as well! I remember seeing that movie in theaters.
Wait..what about Earthsiege! That was a great game put out by Sierra, i think. Who remembers that?
Damn I love these reviews, the level of detail and effort put into them is why you're the only reviewer I trust.
Name Your Mercenary Company:
"Snifflehorns Kerfuffler" 🤣😂
Thanks Karak....i was going through ACG withdrawal you and lucy lu were just what I needed. Great review like always.
Soooo, it’s Battletech, only different perspective. Love it!! Used to play MechWarrior all the time. Pumped to play this. Thanks for the awesome review
12:15 Comparing the game's AI to a pair of underwear bought on Ebay that GnR drummer Steven Adler shat in was hilarious!
The world looks freaking massive..are there really that many places you can go?
Did any of you guys have the Steel Batallion controller, or know anyone that had it?
I love the universe of Battletech it has a very detailed history.
I'll wait for a (Steam) sale. By then, the game would have a few patches and be in better shape.
ACG has the best reviews.
Good review. Have the game, but haven't played much yet. Your issues with it are the same issues that have plagues all the Piranha MW games. I hope they continue to refine this one. It is a game that us MW fans have been waiting a really long time for. Thanks again for the review, always appreciated.
I'm just going to play the battle tech heavy metal expansion till this release on steam.
THE. MINUTE. you mentioned Robot Jox… I liked this video
Nice, you're pretty much the first review out
Close, but not quite. I watched 2 other reviews before this one popped up, and I gotta say they weren't quite as quality and indepth as this one. And that is why I watch ACG. XD
Here's hoping the Ingame Music can be Turned Off... so I could provide my own Sweet Sweet Soundtrack...
with Piranha - it's all about the MTX .. I just can't trust them after MWO and the fact it's Epic store exclusive, this will just be a budget next year when it's cheap game.
Ian H just saw article that stated the game you buy is the game you get one and done deal, might have been pc gamer I am not 100 percent on that. I’m still skeptical tbh
I can only say this. The game has MORE than enough stuff that its considered complete now. Anything else will be true DLC
We can only hope there is good mod support for this, because it looks like it can have a ton of potential.
@@ACGreviews The only addition it needs is refund with additional money included for wasting our time and getting our hopes up...shill

@@chimpman3496 Not really. That is like saying battletech is mechwarrior 4.5
They are in the same universe all 3. but mech commander 1 and 2 are a different game than battletech.
mech commander 1and 2 are rts, mechwarrior 1-5 are first/3rd person shooters and battletech is tbs.
Same universe, different game series.
Try the mw5 rts mod!
Oh that ending . . hmm you got me there

With this and phoenix point, looks like that extra cash from epic isn't going into the game like they said, no one saw that coming.
Yeah, that "dropped the ball" excuse as to why Phoenix Point isn't launching on Windows Store is some horse shit. They could have used that bribe from Epic to hire people that knew what they were doing.
a someone working in an industry, since when do people work more or better when you pay them in advance ? never they couldn't care less, they already have the money even if it's unconscious they do less for sure
Extra points for that Robot Jox shoutout
I waited 17 years for a new Mechwarrior game ( that wasn't online only ) .....aaaand its on epic *facepalm*
Wait one more year and it will be free for exhibit on other platforms. But, yeah, ikr.
don't sweat it. In a year it'll be on steam AND be fully patched/bugs fixed
its okay, you waited 17 years, wait 1 more and it will come to steam! I used to play these games as a kid so I feel you
I see that a lot of people are torrenting this game so that they can play it without giving epic money and then later buying it on steam to support the devs
there is the BattleTech game it is a good game
I did enjoy trying this fast mech with jumpjets that i made into a perfect Masterchief mech complete with an autorifle type looking weapon but i still enjoy the slower heavier mechs more and slowly creaking along through canyons feeling like an unstoppable colossus.
So its literally just Battletech again but a realtime shooter. Nice.
Respect for the review 😎 but I have to mention at the beginning with the list of big mech games I cried when you forgot to mention armored core 😂
Oho, been waiting to see what you thought about this game. It was an automatic refund and wait for sale when they switched to Epic midway. Halo, POE2 and DOS2 will keep me busy till 2077 drops.
This game runs like shit and no SLI support.
@@chrisalagar7662 I've been seeing reports of other graphics quality and optimization issues. Hopefully patches will soon remedy this.
I can't believe they *still* haven't added a mechanic for a mech to get toppled. A grappeling hook for pulling lights and mediums off their feet and then a deathstomp to crush their cockpits as they lie squrming on the ground - that's what my kingcrab needs.
Been waiting for this one for awhile

Yep lol like No Curby said its set in the same universe. Welcome to the world of true mech combat.
battletech is more a civ game, mw5 is a true game
The running in circles actually comes from the old MechWarrior strategy called the Circle of Death. Where it is just as it sounds. You crank the torso and go in a circle and fight. There are better strategies to be sure, but it's one that is rooted in MechWarrior.
Ya thats why I sort of discussed it being ok with the Mechs but not so much with tanks in the open and shit.

I would love to see this come to PS4/5, XBox1/2.
