    Yes girl! I'm Bougie( on a budget) as well and proud of it! The prices here are not what people think for real. Lately Uber and DiDi has seemed like it has went up and it takes longer to even get one! Girl my Siri was answering you as well lmao! I like Jose's channel as well. Thanks for the shout! 🦋 I have the fancy pool filter system and still pay the pool service cause I'm not getting out there and doing that however, I do cut my own grass in the backyard only.

    You always keep it real, Leshaun. Thank you for that! Everything you said made sense. Years ago, I moved and lived in Japan for three years. Thank goodness my moving expenses were taken care of through my teaching job. I’m sure they were expensive. Any country that you move to, you will need some money to get by until your first paycheck. It really is common sense. I appreciate your advice.❤😊🎉

      I appreciate that 🥰 thanks so much for also sharing your experience. People should go where they feel safe and comfortable but can also afford! There are definitely places in this big ass country of Mexico that are very very cheap, but I wouldn’t want to live there, because I have to compromise something else like maybe my safety and that’s a no Bueno 😒

    Dope video. I think many Americans r unrealistic when it comes 2 moving aboard. My biggest advice 2 people is try not 2 compare & decide what it a must 4 u. Some of our musts can b financially draining when moving abroad.

  • @JolceBoi
    @JolceBoi 7 месяцев назад +28

    Mexico is affordable where there is not a lot of Americans taking over. Once Americans take over that area like Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, PDC and Merida are more expensive than authentic Mexican areas. The dollar has also lost strength to the peso.

    • @LESHAUNWILL
      @LESHAUNWILL  7 месяцев назад +16

      Yes all that!!! But also one of the things that irritates me is Americans going someplace and bringing their American bullshit with them and trying to rip people off by price gouging and also I can’t stand the ones that are on RUclips telling people lies about what it cost to live here just so they can get them here and use up their money, pretending to be some sort of relocation specialist

      EXACTLY!! I lived in Puerto Vallarta from 2009-2012 and it became nearly as expensive as living in the USA. Americans ruined parts of Mexico. You should see Ajijic/Chapala. It is shameful how overrun it is with Americans who demand that everyone they encounter speak English. I lived there for nearly a year and the Americans ran me out!!

      Easy my friend, you are exaggerating things, I have been to those places without being vacation season, and it can be a bit expensive, but not to the level you describe, it has been for a long time, I have also met some Americans there, and they really are great people and very good people, they don't come to do any harm to anyone, they just want to have fun and relax, just like we would do, and anyone who goes somewhere, love and peace 🙏🏻

      Sorry you are saying it's an AMERICAN problem. America has become the same result of the world wide squeeze that every other country is in. Our taxes, insurance, & housing has gone wild thanks to Donald J. Trump having his hands on politics for 8 years! We all want a safe and affordable place to live, we are not all millionaires or Billionaires believe me. I have my MX residency and cannot wait to leave!!

    I so appreciate your honesty. I am recently retired, looking at Belize as my new home. I have similar requirements and did not choose Mexico, because of the language barrier. Belize is the opposite, housing here is comparable to the US, food and labor is cheap, gasoline and electric expensive. I so appreciate this video. I have considered Mérida from the beginning of my planning, but something never felt fully "right" for me about the city. I'm two months away from moving and STILL undecided!
    There's a lot of expats, prices are higher than people admit, snowbirds flood the area every winter, and these people turning everything into a money grab are INSANE.
    These are the same "relocation specialists" who repeatedly mention they have a history of poor money management, don't speak a lick of spanish, and have only been living in México for a whopping 2 YEARS 😂
    Thank YOU for being honest.

    What works for one person may not work for another when moving here. My suggestion is if you really want to move here, do your own research, I came here for vacation March 2022, was supposed to stay 2 weeks i stayed 4, went back home in middle of April and sold everything i owned and was back here May 29th, 2022, and been here since with no regrets. But what i did may not work for someone else. Just do your own research, and dont hire any american living here that came from the states to show you around or do for you what you can do by researching!

      Thank you very much I’m just being honest because I don’t wanna see people make mistakes that I know a lot of people have already made and they get here and then a few months later they are headed back to the states because they didn’t budget properly or get the truth about cost and things. Like only some people will tell you most of these landlords if you’re renting require three deposits, that’s a lot of money right up front. I don’t wanna make it seem like I don’t enjoy Merida, I love it here and yes, my quality of life has definitely improved immensely. I hate leaving my house. I don’t enjoy going back to the states. I feel at home here and you can’t really put a price on that,… But I don’t want to give people the impression that it is cheap. It is absolutely not. There are other parts of Mexico that are less expensive than Mérida, but we have been experiencing so much growth in this city, and it is reflecting in what the locals charge what the big businesses charge and what ex-pats are coming here and thinking they can charge for mediocre services at best!

    Just a little tip but not a big deal. Is it possible to fade out the music shortly after the intro? You have a great speaking voice that gets drowned out by the music.
    Lastly, how are the pest there? Here in Florida, we have a huge problem with ants and lizards and the climate there is kinda similar.

And I try to keep lowering the music but sometimes I hear differently and then when I watch the video back, I’m like damn I could’ve lowered that a little bit more so I understand where you’re coming from, and as far as the bugs go, I’ll hire a exterminator every few months, but in between I do my own spraying and I don’t really have any major issues in my house and believe it or not they are empty lots all around me so I would have expected it to be a lot worse. I almost felt like you were talking about him. 😂😂. I love your honesty. I definitely have to check out those channels you mentioned. Question, can you get out of rental leases (IF there are leases) at any time during the rental? Thank you

    • @LESHAUNWILL
      @LESHAUNWILL  7 месяцев назад +3

      Listen, I ain’t even gonna hold you… You know exactly who I’m talking about and it’s more than one person there are several of them, and there are several channels that are pushing this narrative of Merida is cheap and they can help you get yourself situated however they don’t even speak the language! And can’t read a contract so you still end up having to hire notaries and lawyers on top of paying their bullshit fees. Then there are the ones who have the businesses and try to tell you they’re going to get you set up with all kinds of nonsense. There are the ones who think that they are some kind of shaman or some thing and push in there products while trying to still charge American prices. GTFOH 😠
      please just be careful if you come here. And yes, there are leases, but every lease is different. It is structured differently based off of the landlord not too many landlords are giving out six month leases anymore, because of ex-pats, who just packed up and bounced and broke the lease. A lot of the landlords don’t even trust the experts anymore and won’t rent to you until you can actually pay three security deposits.

      @@LESHAUNWILL LOL…I didn’t want to make my original comment too long so I left out a lot of what I wanted to say. Let me just say while I like the opinion of ex-pats (in ANY Country) with some of their opinions as an ex-pat I’d rather have the help of native residents. Of course, being extremely careful with anyone you deal with is important ANYWHERE. I agree with so much of what you said especially the fact that Americans feel they can charge American prices for their services/advice, etc. Also, in addition to all those expenses you mentioned there are still others you didn’t mention like entertainment, medical, medicine. Relocation shouldn't even matter....because you have to pay that cost wherever you move. Once I buy our house and start living day to day, the property tax, health insurance, electric bill, water bill, phone bill, cable bill and groceries are much much cheaper than living in Florida. We will try ubers for 6 months before purchasing a car just to get to know the area (which will be Chelem/Progresso area). The main reason we are leaving US is politics and believe MX is beautiful with so much more to do and see than here in FL (Swamp with Trumpers). We have a great realtor we are having our home built through, he is from Canada with Mexicans also working there at a large company that also has locations in Huatulco, Mazatlan and Puerto Escondido. We have are residency and will be there in 2024! 🎉😊 thank you for your info!

      I’m so glad you’re taking exploratory trips. It’s very important to do that. It’s very important to sit down and budget your needs and your wants because there is nothing wrong with wanting what you want.! I’ve had people in my comments. Tell me that I’m doing the most, and I need to be more disciplined with my spending. I find that to be hysterical. I build my own shit I paint my own walls. I find bargains wherever I can including driving two hours outside of my town to purchase something that I know it’s going to be a 3rd of the price here in Merida. Other places in Mexico are definitely cheaper than Merida . This city is growing very rapidly, and because of all the ex-pats moving here things have gone up so much more than it was three years ago. Good luck with everything and just keep your head on a swivel with these groups and RUclipsrs selling dreams

    I’ve seen the prices in Merida triple since I moved here 3 years ago ; grocery, dining out, rents, uber/didi … but I can’t figure if you are describing 8k usd a month or 8k pesos a month
    I comfortably live on about 2k usd / month. I could live on less but I prefer a two bedroom place over a studio rental. If I was to take a chic little studio, I could live for less.
    That said, I’m not building or decorating a house and don’t Uber the whole city everyday.
    Depending on lifestyle, it’s possible to live here comfortably on much less.

    I have another question on the flushing of toilet paper. We are building a home in a gated community in Chelem...do you think we will be able to flush? I was already prepared to hear no...but you mentioned usually the older homes with older pipes cannot flush. When I stay in a hotel they obviously let you flush toilet paper, and most restaurants....just thought you may know. Thanks!

    • @LESHAUNWILL
      @LESHAUNWILL  7 месяцев назад +1

      You should be able to flush your toilet because you’re doing new construction but it’s definitely something that you want to mention to your builder just to be sure it’s not a last minute thought because it still has to tap into whatever infrastructure they already have there. I’ve been to some places where they ask you not to flush tissue down the toilet. My suggestion would also make sure you spend a little extra on good powerful toilets. The problem I have in this house are the toilets have a weak flush and the water level sits kind of low but it’s only in some of the bathrooms not all of them and I know that’s a water pressure thing, so just bring it up, so the builder knows that you are aware.

    • @LESHAUNWILL

      Well, there is your normal inflation and yes, there are things in Mexico that have to be imported so they are just as expensive as the United States if not more in some cases because they are imported. And then you have just your normal things like the dollar getting weaker in the peso getting stronger so there are a lot of variables to consider. I will say this though like I said in my video when it comes to your housing you’re gonna get more bang for your buck and when it comes to health care you’re going to get affordable pretty much dirt-cheap healthcare insurance.

    • @LESHAUNWILL
      @LESHAUNWILL  7 месяцев назад +2

      Needs hon I had to travel back to the states to take care of business sell my tiny home and then sell my truck and then reduce my storage unit down to something smaller. The only leisure trip that I’m taking is the one currently coming up for visit to see my family.
      As for Walmart and Home Depot, please keep in mind that I just moved into a new house and I’m still trying to furnish it as well as get things that I need like towels and laundry baskets. You know the accessories I didn’t bring all of that stuff here to Mexico, I didn’t travel with a lot of things I brought very little actually, so you have to go back and watch my moving video and then you’ll see and it would make sense. Also, when it comes to groceries, there are a lot of things that are not allowed in this country that they allow in America in terms of preservatives and chemicals so food goes bad a lot faster here so you have to shop more frequently since you’re not buying food that is going to sit around for weeks. And as a vegan, most of what I’m buying is fresh food, not stuff that sits on the shelf so I have to go grocery shopping a couple times a week.

      I only paid $50 to the facilitator that got us our Temp Residency and that was for 1 hour back in July. I couldn't take that kind of money from people just for sharing information. We built 18 homes over our Marrige and I am always offering my advice and experience to who ever asks😅. Hello Doll sorry for the late reply. I’ve been a little bit busy, but you knew I would get back to you eventually.
      I did both I brought things and I’ll also had some things brought here but the company that I used I can no longer refer because my second shipment did not go as well as the first one.
      And I think, renting some thing furnished, is actually less expensive and it’s less of a headache because honestly, I have been struggling trying to get the things that I want for my space. And if you’re coming to Merida , it’s definitely not cheap. Don’t believe the hype. It’s definitely going to be less expensive than New York City but I would still try to save myself the headache because for everything that you need, you’re going to have to run around the city and or get someone to help you find the places to go to shop and you’re gonna have to pay for deliveries on top of all of that. I didn’t bring any large pieces of furniture but I did travel back to the states a few times each time I take to large luggage is one inside of the other, which is empty so that I can bring back more things. Keep in mind that the major airlines like United, American, Delta allow heavier bags, when I flew first class I was able to bring two bags that were 75 pounds each. Just make sure you check because things can change but I know some of the less expensive airlines only allow 40 pounds and charge you for everything even if you fart 😂

And here I am paying more because my rent alone is over 1120 a month plus utilities. But I am getting more I have a 3 bedroom house with pool in a private resort like community. So it’s worth it but it’s definitely NOT CHEAP! and you’re right them no good liars just brought their BS to Mexico and it makes me sick! I'm thinking about everything but that wasn't on my list. I want a native for something or someone who has been there for over 10 years. I want us that move out of America. To truly let go of our American ways and respect their culture. I feel like that is such a level of disrespect that I can't even begin to unravel. I feel like Merida is my start for transition but not my permanent but I'm unsure. Mexico City is nowhere on my list because of all the American stuff I'm hearing about. On top of that the people here do not know how to drive I have never gone anywhere and didn’t witness at least one or two accidents and that is every single time that I go out there driving skills are hilarious not to mention the infrastructure was not put in place when Merida started to grow they did not put it in the proper light fixtures to direct traffic so with every other turn being a round about, it’s nerve racking. Trust me I white knuckle it every time I’m driving 😵‍💫😱 I’ve been driving since I was 17 and I’ve never felt more stressed out than I do driving here. My niece said that overtime I will get used to it but I don’t know this is why I would only get a inexpensive car to get me from point A to point B and back. That’s your opinion and you are entitled to it, but here is mine!!!
      I just moved into a new house and I did not bring very much with me from the states. Not to mention I lived in a tiny home and I now have to furnish three bedrooms plus a living room, dining room, kitchen and garden area. I also have to eat I don’t think you realize that the foods here do not allow the same types of preservatives and chemicals that they allow in America so therefore food goes bad a lot faster and as a vegan I’m mostly buying produce so I have to go to the store a couple times a week at least to get my fruits and vegetables at a minimum. I am very frugal and I keep track of what I’m spending and what I could possibly do myself like hire a painter or paint myself, hire a carpenter or build it myself. You obviously don’t know much about my channel and what I do so I suggest you go back and check a few other videos. Furthermore, it’s not about living as cheaply as possible because to me that is denying your self the things that bring you joy such as a nice desk, or a comfortable office chair for your back or how about a sofa to sit on? Yes, I’m bougie on a budget but I’m not going to live in a place that’s going to bring me misery or eat ramen noodles like I’m in college! It’s not about working nine jobs and having all these extra things that’s going to stress you out throughout the day and take away from enjoying life!!! to me that is not living you must be a young person and think like a lot of these young people do, I am so sorry I’m here to tell you I am a grown ass woman and I have worked hard all my life and I am at a stage in my journey where I want to work less.
