You should be able to take that skating experience and parlay it into a Hallmark Holiday special as a divorced(or widowed) ex-pair skating champion looking for that perfect off-ice pairing. Good info as usual👍.
Brilliant! Every video I follow along with I am 12.5% more confident in my playing. You just speak a language I can undersand without my eyes glazing over.
If you want to get better Sean is one of the better teachers on RUclips and I settled on him as my go to guy for the same reason. He speaks in a way I understood after I got the basic "music " language under my belt. What I didn't understand from his explanations I learned by fooling around with what I did understand and I would try to use what I didn't understand and then work backwards from there. Like learning a new math formula you don't truly understand. Find a completed version of the problem and work it backwards to fill in the blanks you didn't catch in class
Thank you for your dedication to presenting tricky skills with humor and giving me association of With athletics as I was a alpine ski racer that fizzled out early.
Usually I skip past couples figure-skating on the TV... much like bowling and golf; but this had my attention. Good lesson and insights. My old brain mostly comprehended what you were laying down. Thanks, Sean 🙏
this exactly what i need learn to do on guitar what i always wanted. it all comes down to learning the notes on the fretboard to really understand what i am doing. seems to be so much work, but it has to be done, i guess...
Fun lesson, as always, Sean! As we were discovering jazz, I was hoping you'd pivot for a second to the tri-tone, because, --22-- -> --34-- -> --55-- actually sounds really nice - to my very untrained ear, this is as strong of a resolution as I have ever heard. (also, if one plays 22 and 34 with pointer and middle fingers, it is easy to switch to ring and pinky for 55 and further down the fret).
Man you had me for a bit. I'm usually working on other stuff while listening. I figure it might get stuck in my subconscious. All the sudden I hear you talking about G dorian while talking about the key of "C" I had to stop like WTF?? Had to go back & clarify... Well played, hahaha. Hope all is well, take it easy.
Come on Hallmark! You've got the actor _and_ the story covered here! What are you waiting for? And then also, chasing this round with the fingers and missing in fortunate ways, often, combined to make me think of *Helen and Heaven* , somehow. ruclips.net/video/GCpTb-oZZRY/видео.html (maybe it's all that sparkly stuff all low down in the mix, and maybe it's just the Dm to G? - somehow. Somehow.)
Yup people always like to assume two people who work closely together are a thing. That’s why so many assumed you and Andrea were an item. I bet you were good at skating. Thanks for the lesson I’ll have to give this a shot although some chords are hard for me since I play a right handed guitar turned around and play lefty.
Your content rocks. Definitely made things I was overcomplicating way easier to understand. Thank you for that. P.S. You should do some live streams dude!
Ah Sean, alas your poor past “Couples- On-the-Ice” show may have “tanked,” but your description of DG & modes should go “On and On and Ooonn!” It was great! I learned, hopefully, more on modes And stringing them together. ; ) Keep Playing & Teaching. Nice A6. Cort et al “does it good.” Sorry PM. Couldn’t resist.
Do you ever use the G7th, that's the traditional Cowboy chord G, and the ring finger put on the 3rd fret of the D string from the 3rd fret B string ? Just wondering, I don't think I have ever seen you use it that way. It'd be from a G add 9, I believe, regular open G, with the ring finger just above the pinky on the B string, then shift the ring finger up to I believe the D string, 3rd fret for a G7th ? I'm particularly fond of it myself.
I am having trouble with what I thought you said that the D and G are separated by one note. The strings are tuned different by a 4th. D, E, F, and G. Did I misunderstnd you? Rdference: time stamp 6:32.
Your pinky finger tip is freakishly small compared to your pointed finger tip. Just saying. Thought you might like to know hahaha. Its part of where your guitar prowess is derived from right? Lol. Cool video . Always kind of messed with this but it's by ear so it doesn't always sound the way I want to my 1st few times running through a progression that I'm building off of. It used to only involve me playing by ear and by saying hey let's see what these sound like and I would base it off of chord shapes. Or part of them anyways. Thanks to.your videos over the last few years I'm still doing the same thing but now I know why it didn't work hahahahha
Maybe a little more sleep Sean?? 8) Jazz is all the notes nobody else uses because it sounds out of key. LOL Not sure what "mode" that is? 8) Us lowly rhythm players are always looking for ways to color our playing, especially if we are playing with a good bass player and drummer. They give you a little more room to play around. 8) Always appreciate the tips, although I can't skate at all to save my life!! Peace... 8) --gary
Wait a second... I thought it was always W W Half W W W Half for every string...? Why is D and G different...? I hate not understanding this... Watch it again. 😂
That intro was hilarious, man. I love your sense of humor

I like how Sean absolutely commits to his dank metaphors 😅
When I'm not skating away on the thin ice of a new day I enjoy a little double stop ala mode! Cheers Sean!!
Brilliant! Every video I follow along with I am 12.5% more confident in my playing. You just speak a language I can undersand without my eyes glazing over.
In retrospect I have no idea where the number came from but I didn't question the inspiration.

and here i was looking for music theory in all the wrong places - it was in plain sight along...peace & mixolydian vibes, Sensei Daniel.
I really like how you do the upswing on the last syllable of your sentences.

Great, entertaining delivery, Sean. Lost me in the Dorian/Mixolydian stuff but got me intrigued to pursue figure skating. LOL

Favorite pairs, Bert and Ernie, Tom and Jerry and my favorite: M&Ms . Great job as always Sean … wait… you hear that ? It’s Hallmark calling ! 🎶✌🏼
In which Sean shows himself to be the Tonya Harding of modes. He really goes after it.
whatever it takes
Great lesson! I had to watch that one twice but it made a lot click for me. Thank you!
Happy to help!

Funny and informative. I clicked on the video for the music theory, but I stayed for the figure skating theory.

Do you include your little finger in g7 chord or do play it without because some books show it without
He shows in the video where he puts his fingers 😂

Did you compete in that first skating competition in 1908?
Hey Sean. Thanks for the figure skating lesson. I tried applying it to basket weaving but the bad girl went straight through my finger. Any tips?
Modal lesson 😋yummy
Will the ice-skating stuff be on the test?
You could have used more skating technical terms, I think you were kicked out of skating in the first week.....
Did anyone win that bass guitar?
I've never heard about since we signed up....
