@@pizzaboy3946 We already lost it. Let me put this into perspective. Mark Zuckerberg recently expanded the Community Guidelines on facebook, which essentially banned Holocaust denial, censoring critical analysis of historical events. I saw somebody who was happy with the decision, being a free speech advocate, I was offended. This dude was from Australia and had olive skin similar to an Italian or Greek, though his last name suggested Italian, but he had a funny looking nose. My off the cuff comment to him was "with a nose like that, I'm not surprised on your position on the matter" This dude lived in Australia, a big nose isn't exclusively a stereotypical facial feature for Yews, and whilst I will admit to the intention of the comment, I received a 30-day ban for Harrassment and Bullying. But here's my point. On a daily basis, not only do I say much worse to people on Facebook, but so do a great many others, and this is the first ban I've ever received specifically for harrassment and bullying. I didn't know if the guy was Yew-ish or not, the insult was misappropriated for all I know and in all likelihood it was. Nonetheless, I'm in the digital gulag for 30-days. I don't even hate Yews, like I said, I'm just a free speech advocate. But I will say this. It is a directly observable and self evident truth, that historically, you've only ever had to look to those you cannot criticise, to see who the oppressors and tyrants of the times were.
@@discipleofhermes563 thanks for that. Regarding the Holocaust, I think it probably happened but I wasn't there at the time and my views are based on what historians tell me. It is still repugnant that no one can hold a contrary view and, indeed, Christopher Hitchens lambasted the decision to prosecute David Irving for expressing his views. There should be no prerequisite of freedom of speech to be factually accurate (few of us are in the long run) or in "good taste." I understand a chap called Toby Foster set up a free speech union, with a condition imposed on its members that they were things tgey could not say! And I'm not talking about inciting violence or shouting fire in a crowded cinema, which are not expressions of free speech anyway. Yes, the hard left are the fascists and tyrants but, of course, they have virtue on their side and their moral superiority affords them the right to dispense with trivial things such as free speech but, for the rest of us, we'd better make sure we cling onto it.
How does one person manage to make me feel guilty for laughing so many times?! ..... and then I come back for more! He is not afraid of any subject matter. Got to love how fearless he is!
I like this bit. Gervais is almost always funny, a little morose, but very bright. And poor Nietzsche, he passed on in 1900. National socialism had been a force in Germany since the mid-1800's, but had not swept to power and Nietzsche would have been horrified at his work being co-opted by anti-semetic fascists.
He would be horrified most probably because he was passionately against all ideologies. Sadly he is known today as philosopher of nazis with ho fault of his own.
Not to mention by anti-Semitic fascists. (What *semetic means I have no idea.) Also, "by the mid-1800s" would refer to the period 1804-06, since "the 1800s" refers to the decade 1800-1809: you mean "the 19th century" (1800-1899). Also (sorry to go on like this, but you really should give more thought to your comments), "national socialism" goes back no further than the very end of the 19th century. It was a reaction to international socialism (communism, aka Marxism), which did not become well-known until around the 1870s at the earliest.

@@morningstar9233 Yes. He was expecting some knowledge of WWII from his audience. But I think knowledge of the title of Nietzsche's books was asking too much.
The Nazis had to rewrite massive portions of Also Spracht Zarathustra to make it fit their ideology. It's almost impossible to find one of the edited versions today, which is a shame. Being able to show the difference between the two might open more people up to reading some of Neitzsche's other works.

Not that dark: freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and the world will be a lot darker when we lose it.
Not entirely sure where the defense is here!
Missed your mark just a tad
Lee Sylvester It’s just words; there is no defense there. It would be the equivalent of saying, “I take offense,” without alluding to what was actually offensive.
My off the cuff comment to him was "with a nose like that, I'm not surprised on your position on the matter"
This dude lived in Australia, a big nose isn't exclusively a stereotypical facial feature for Yews, and whilst I will admit to the intention of the comment, I received a 30-day ban for Harrassment and Bullying.
I never heard him do comedy before. He's pretty good.

This is pure GOLD! Comedy at its finest.

"there was a shower scene"... Awesome line.
@Matthew Hopkins Nietzsche recommended the infirm & sick should be poisoned = the spiritual father of nazism.
The mid-1800s? Sorry, but that's complete rubbish.
@Green Goblin Nietzsche went mad in 1889 & the NSDAP wasn't founded until 1920, 20 years after Nietzsche's death.
