i am old enough to remember when something with the Made in USA label meant the best quality in the world, now it seems like something from the distant past.
Actually I remember when cars wouldn’t last 10 years. Now they do. We’ve come a long way from the trash made in the 80s. It’s not that bad Peter. Go watch something uplifting and remember how blessed you are to be in the US and not China.
You’re right on Peter, piss poor quality , just like the auto industry in the 70’s & 80’s. Profits are priority, screw the customer. There are just a few manufacturers now that do it right & have quality control . The rest of these manufacturers are scrap . 🤛⚾️
Nice video, thanks for sharing... We had a 2018 Outdoors RV Timber Ridge same model. Absolutely loved it, one of the great things about this manufacturer is that they are not a mass production outfit. You can show up anytime and take a tour and/or even take the trailer there to have issues looked at and fixed. Awesome service, totally bypassing the huge delays at the dealership...😊😉👍
Thanks! I think ORV is slowly doing away with that and you need to go through your dealer now for any parts or service. The factory still does the big major jobs a dealer can't......but they direct you back to the dealer for the small stuff now...
I love your positive attitude. I disagree that you should “manage expectations “. You purchased a higher end travel trailer, you bought an upgraded package . I don’t understand the cabinets, the beautiful uppers vs cheep veneer bottoms. All those faults should have been caught by both the manufacturer and the dealer. And the pressure washing thing, that is ridiculous. I would love to see more about about the Andersen hitch. I recently towed my tt for first time. While I love how solid my Husky Centreline system is, I cannot manage them myself (too hard to instal and remove), my son helped me at home. When I reached the campground, I left the and truck hitched. The mods look great.
Thanks Esther! 😊 Appreciate you watching and your comment. We're not entirely happy with the cabinet situation....but we'll see what happens! We will cover the Anderson hitch for sure....it is easier to use than the heavy bars styles I believe.
Your videos are always so much fun to watch! You really do a great job editing; adding in obviously setup "arrival" shots, getting great B-Roll as you drive, catching ambiance like sunsets and roadside attractions (or the lack thereof) and just making it seem like we're with you. That's not easy to do! It takes planning, and I want you to know it's appreciated. Filmmaking is a tough task, even doing a 'simple' thing like a quick travel vid, but you do it well. Your breakdown on the delivery inspection was very nice as well. Always very personal and easy-going. Very enjoyable all the way around. So glad to see your journey evolve and so glad to share it with you. As a commercial driver for 45 years, I'll give you a piece of advice everyone hauling a trailer should know when backing: learn to rely on your mirrors. You will be much more confident and efficient when you feel comfortable using your mirrors. So looking forward to keeping up with your progress on the minor/major fixes and your travels. Really excited for you guys!!!
Thanks Kai! Appreciate the kind words on the work that goes into these videos. They do take quite a bit of planning and editing and thankfully it keeps getting easier the more we do this! Good advice on the mirrors..thanks! Appreciate you watching!😊
We just did a two and half month road trip across the country in our 24rls Outdoors RV. We love it. Might I recommend if you don’t have one already a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) on your rigs tires. I put these on our rig and it was a saving grace as we did have a tire issue while on our travels and the sensor let me know before the tire completely went flat and possibly got shredded and we found the closest tire shop which happened to be a semi truck tire shop and they repaired the tire for $35 while we sat in our truck. Happy travels! Welcome to the Outdoors family! Side note…. You can grab one off of Amazon for about $80 . You really don’t need super fancy just one that will watch your tires for you and alert you early of an issue.
Tip for backing, put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and then turn in the direction you want the trailer to go. I picked up a Flagstaff Microlite 25FKBS in early summer and the fridge quit the first time out. Getting ready to go out for our last time this season and still isn’t fixed. Will get it fixed the week after. But we have a Dometic CFX40 we have been using. Other than that, most everything else has been fine.
Great tip on backing, thanks! Bummer on the fridge...I have heard a lot of Norcold fridge issues with our ORV brand. We also are still using the CFX55 and are grateful to have it! Enjoy your last trip this season! 😊
I think the best take away for anyone purchasing an RV, be it a travel trailer or self drive is on your acceptance date, have the dealer fill all the tanks and provide AC power. Run the A/C then heat, water etc. You should be opening cabinets looking for leaks. Disconnect power and run whatever is suppose to run off propane. Most trailers have batteries - ours started with ACM and then we upgraded to lithium. Our first TV was a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and we had no issues. Our three-way fridge ran perfectly (during towing it is powered from the vehicle but during brief stops it powers off the lithium). Jump forward and we added a second TV, a 2020 Ford F150. First trip we stopped two hours into the trip and see flashing lights on the fridge. After much research etc., we learn the Ford doesn't provide sufficient power through the seven pin to charge the batteries. Yes, there is sufficient to run the fridge while driving but once you turn the engine off, the system doesn't automatically switch to battery. It is the Ford and the computer. Work around is adding a DC to DC convertor. Bottom line, while doing a thorough walk through of your rig, do good research on your TV.
We bought a new outdoors RV product in 2016 from a dealer in Eastern Oregon. At the time they said they had completely gone through the RV to make sure everything worked. We spent that night at the wild horse casino just up the road from them just incase anything was wrong. We were glad we did. The hot water heater leaked, several lights didn't work, several blinds left a gap of an inch or so at the bottom of the window - so much for privacy, etc. When we returned in the morning the RV dealer did fix the problems, but what ever happened to their walk thru. We have had more issues with this trailer than any other RV we owned. Brought the trailer back later for repairs, one of which was a toilet that wouldn't seal so had fumes from black tank in trailer. Tech said he doesn't work on other people's toilet. Brought to another dealer by Albany that fixed the seal that was installed wrong when toilet installed. Not sure if we will ever buy another outdoors rv product.
Thanks for sharing your purchase experience with us. We will be very mindful of all the issues you mentioned! I’m very excited that you’re enjoying your travels and thanks for taking us along to share your experience with us. Love following you guys!
We just picked up our 22 FQS Titanium this weekend (in Oregon). Same thermostat issue, but it was not unexpected and easy to correct once they are available. There were no issues with the cabinets. The only other thing we noticed was the hot and cold water on the shower were reversed (also an easy fix). And, yes, I too am still getting used to the towing bit. Been in a truck camper for years! Looking forward to seeing what you do now! Bill
We bought a 19 22 FQS. We picked it up in April 2020. We didn’t get a walk through our trailer with the dealer because of COVID. We pulled up and they put on the weight distribution hitch, hocked up the trailer. They gave us all the paperwork and said call us if you have problems. This was our first rv, so it was learn as you go.
My first PDI was a big surprise. Ordered our Winnebago Minnie Plus 27BHSS at the Hershey RV Show in September 2017. Trailer came in in early February 2018. Asked to look through it before we did the paperwork. Stepped inside the trailer and it was not what we ordered. It had theater seats/recliners and we had ordered the tri-fold couch for extra sleeping. It also had an electric fireplace below the tv that eliminated considerable storage. So I went inside and told the manager I was not buying this; he was not happy. They were able to get the next trailer like it the way we wanted it, but it took an added 7 weeks. We took delivery in late March 2019 as an early 2019 model. PDI went smoothly for that one. We have enjoyed it ever since. Over 18,000 miles towed in our travels. Upgrading from an F-150 to a 2022 F-250 shortly to continue our adventures. Enjoy your videos very much.
Good luck with your new trailer. When I bought our first trailer ... on the first trip the drains under the sink were leaking. Water all over the floor. After temporarily re-attaching the piping where the leak was originating with electrical tape, we survived the event and immediately returned it to the dealership on the way back home. I had called them immediately about the problem and notified them when I would be bringing the trailer in. They told me that time wasn't convenient for them but I insisted since the dealership was midway between where we were camping and our home base. They fixed the problem under warranty (re-attachment and reinforcement of the piping as they had come loose due to the travel vibration of the slide out) and I was able to pick-up the trailer heading out for our next camping trip a few weeks later. We found a few other issues over the next year and actually had the whole of the front section and decals replaced due to skin bubbling. Since then there have only been small issues (stove igniter short circuit, power umbilical pinching and rewiring, airborne faucet {yes it actually became airborne} where the seal had deteriorated, winterizing, etc.) which I was able to repair myself until recently when we developed a propane leak and related hot water issue. That was also repaired under extended warranty while I had the all the exterior weather seals checked and replaced. Our baby is 7 years old now (2014 Tracer Air 250) and still suits our lifestyle better than any of the new trailers on the market. At the time it seemed an expensive unit but compared to current pricing and features it has been a very good deal. The extended 7 year warranty definitely paid for itself, especially now that it is 'out of warranty' but in near perfect condition.
My new 2017 Grand Design Momentum toyhauler shower leaked BAD the 1st time we used it. They forgot to silicon under the shower door tracks......had to do that myself.....
We purchased an Outdoors RV 24 RKS last year at Holiday RV. For us, all the problems were minor for sure. We had a good experience with our "TECH" also. Full-timing for 461 days now and we would not change brands. Love your channel. Our son is a trainer also. GPC Fitness Studio
Good to know you are loving your ORV after more than a year full timing! Appreciate you guys watching! GPC was the company I (Aaron) worked for in Minneapolis as well! Different GPC though......Genuine Parts Company! 😂
My only new was a pop-up slide in camper 2003. I've mostly bought used. Current slide in camper Bigfoot 1994 version extremely happy. Looking at outdoors products to buy our first Trailer RV. Space & water & have a Cyber on order slide in isn't going to be an option. We currently have F350 dually crew diesel. Also a 1994 manual getting 11 to 14 carrying our Bigfoot almost always going through the mountains or up highway 1 north coast California. Cheers from Northern California!!!
If you increase the weight distribution you should reduce or eliminate that porpoising feel. We tow a 7500 lb Grand Design with our F350 Lariat Diesel using a ProPride hitch we bought when we has our F150. Love your rig and Tremor
It's late, but, I just discovered the channel, but, want to offer my congrats on the new trailer! One thought popped up, when you showed the water dripping UNDER the trailer. If it hasn't already been addressed, I'd suggest those panels be removed and see how much damage to (any) insulation has been done. If the insulation has gotten wet, I think there may be other issues down the road, e.g., replacement of insulation, etc. The dlr power washing the unit rather surprised me, too. SUGGESTION: Would be interested seeing a current video on hitching/unhitching the Andersen hitch, adjustments you have to make when not hitching up at the same angle as prev unhitch, etc. Poss/neg thoughts on the hitch, now that you've had a bit of road time. Wishing y'all the best with the new rig. Y'all Be Safe!
Always get an inspection - you’d be surprised at all that can be wrong with even brand new units. Just watch Blue Ox On The Run. And then don’t sign the papers and take delivery until everything is fixed. And you raise a good question - if you shouldn’t use a pressure washer on an RV, then why does the dealer. Was that just to cover up the water leaks you found? Good luck with your unit - it looks really nice.
This was fun. Thanks for bringing us along. I enjoyed your excitement. Managing expectations is the operative phrase here especially for first time RV buyers. New RV owners take notice. Owning and using an RV means continuous maintenance and that’s not a bad thing. It’s satisfying to know you can make repairs as needed and do required maintenance. Knowing this enables that feeling of freedom and independence we want. Have fun you two…
Too bad that dealerships don't have the time or manpower to have a more perfect product for the customer. Love the changes that you have made to the RV, and your positive attitude to make the corrections to the problem areas! One time when we picked up a travel trailer, the dealership wanted us to sign everything and leave within 30 minutes. My husband said "no" to the situation and required the dealership to perform a walk through. The dealership stated that they had cleaned inside. When we got the unit home, it took over six damp paper towels just to clean the dining table. The RV developed problems with the axles. We should have walked away from the entire process, but we learned never to be rushed in the walk through. So glad that you made time for a proper walk-through. Congratulations!
Even though you weren’t crying i was! After your last video with the tent and the clam flying away I am soooooo happy you finally have a home!!! It’s amazing! Our first camper walk through was a wonderful amazing experience - they couldn’t have done more or been more helpful - our second one - when we got our big girl was a disaster and they didn’t help us at all! We started out with the same sway system you have and it didn’t work for us but our truck is smaller and our rig is bigger so there is no comparison to our experience and yours I just have a little ptsd when I see the chains - crossing Macknac island bridge in the wind - ya that was a bad day for me. Thank am over the top happy for you guys!!! Congrats!!! Bunches of love Noelle
Thanks Noelle! 😊 We have heard that the Andersen hitch dosent do as well with smaller trucks and bigger trailers like yours. Nothing worse than white knucklen' across a bridge! Thanks for sharing in our excitement and special day!
1st off, we love your videos. They have been so helpful. You bring a wonderful combination of joy, passion and technical knowledge to these videos and we really appreciate you. We are about 2 years away from retirement and a full time RV life. From the hours and hours of research we've done, we are very close to making the decision to go with an ORV product. Not certain which one yet. Your experience with the PDI on your new home is giving us 2nd thoughts. I understand that every new RV has issues. I don't like it, I don't accept that it's unavoidable, but it seems to be too common to not expect a similar situation. Many "RV Experts" advise never taking delivery of your new RV until all quality issues have been fully resolved. I realize that with supply chain problems and such, taking that approach may mean waiting months for the issues to be corrected and actually taking delivery. However, what is the dealer's incentive to correct the problems in a timely a manner, (or at all) if they have already been paid? Anyway, let me end by saying thank you. Who knows, maybe we we'll see you down the road. Be well.
Thank you for the kind words...we really do appreciate it when people let us know they enjoy watching our videos!...so Thank you! We can certainly understand your hesitations and concerns with this whole process. I (Aaron) will say..in the "normal" world we would have boughten a truck and RV that was a couple years old and well taken care of. But with the used prices of both being so close to the new ones..that is the route we went. Warranties for us would just be there for the larger items and everything else we will take care of ourselves. We try to self insure on most things...... But, yes, if we would have refused pick up and had the dealer fix everything it would have been a lot longer wait on top of our 5 months. Most of these items should have been caught by QC at the factory...but I wonder if they are getting more relaxed with such high demand. I told someone else in the comments ( who also said they are having second thoughts about ORV) that we would not change our decision at this time. I just don't know what else we would have got for the same money. The new 25ft Airstreams would be an extra $50,000 and we wouldn't have gotten some of the things that you do get with ORV. (mainly off road capabilities, insulation, and larger tanks) I just was a bit disappointed in the cabinet quality and construction as we bought ours sight unseen and didn't really know the exact qualities. Anyways....keep us informed as you get closer to retirement and your shopping decisions!
Good luck with the repairs...We bought our 3rd rv this summer and at the dealer I was like a kid at Christmas and didn't notice a ton of things wrong with ours. These idiots misaligned cabinet door hinges and just left the open holes where they drilled it wrong, fridge has 2 big dents in it (he said its been on order for weeks...now it's been months), shower head was just hanging there where it pulled out from the wall, huge crack in a large piece of wood trim, a ceiling seam was hanging down and these were things we found at the dealership after they supposedly did their PDI. Now about a week later I found missing hardware, a smashed electric outlet, water leaks galore that would have went unnoticed in the basement, a crushed furnace vent, wires that were just twisted together with no crimp or tape or anything...can you say fire hazard! I also found a few more little things and on top of that our awning came crashing down while camping, a pin snapped on the arm at the motor side and rear leveling jack is inop. so now we dont have any auto leveling. All of this and the service manager said "everything's on order but honestly I have no idea when we might see it and could be months". So long story short DON'T TRUST THE DEALER when they say "they looked over everything!!!
Regardless of the model Outdoors RVs do make you feel like you’re at home. We have a 2020 Glacier Peak F28RKS Titanium and absolutely LOVE it! Congratulations! Adventure is out there!
Good for you guys! We have the Backcountry 24rks. Right now I'm in the process of upgrading the solar to a complete system by Battle born and Victron. From our experience with our purchase a year ago, we weren't quite as fortunate. We live in MN and had to pull the trailer 5hrs into Omaha to have the slide and jacks looked at. The slide was assembled out of spec from the factory and the dealer and to completely reinstall it. The jacks, well there was a broken wire which prevented the driver side from coming down. All in all, they are a great trailer. Regarding the "bucking" wait until you're on a cement highway when it really starts bucking. It can be almost enough to make your stomach upset! We have a ton GMC with the diesel also.
Recently watched another video where they toured the factory. ORV went on and on about their quality control and inspections. Seems that they missed several items on your RV, pretty disappointing considering that ORV is not a budget type of RV. We're looking to go full time in a couple of years and thinking maybe buying from a dealer that has multiple locations for service options.
Is that Montrose or Mont-Rose? Pahncha Springs or Pohnka Springs, Bwayna Vista or Byunnee Vista? Locals would know! Happy travels! Get back to Coh-loh-rah'-doh next summer you two!
Hey Guys! The PDI seems to gone well. But it sucks you have certain things still need to be taking car of. Couple suggestions if they re not on your list. 1. Get a TPMS for the trailer tires so you can see the tire pressures in real time on the dash. 2. Get a 2nd spare tire. 2 spare tires. 3. A back up camera for the back of the trailer. 4. An Aiair Compressor for the RV tires
I have the same thermostat in the 2023 Rockwood Mini lite 2516S, so I'm not so surprised. I'm picking up mine tomorrow, so was looking for any tips. I've never towed anything, let alone this 7,000lb as well. I picked up my new vehicle - an F150 Powerboost...which isn't your F350, but from what I've heard I should have no problem, tho opinions differ. It's got plenty of pull, but the tongue weight does worry me a little. Have an e2 Fastway WDH on it. Thanks.
I had a big smile on my face watching this and seeing how excited y'all were. The small issues are a bit of a bummer, but I don't know anyone that's got an RV that didn't come with a few little cosmetic issues. I imagine that's more common now that production is being rushed to keep up with demand. Are they going to swap out the thermostat for you once the digital one is available?
Thanks dude!Very true...it seems to be common issue with RV's now. We are waiting to here back from our dealer on more on the t stat..... but I did notice they are still out as the new models on RV trader still have the analog version. But we will certainly continue asking for the digital one in the future!
Agree on recording everything. I owned my sprinter for over a year before I discovered you could dim the interior lights... (you have to hold down the on/off button). As this happened, I remembered being told this when I picked it up, and I had just forgotten.
We have a 24,000 pound DRV, pull it with a F450, new tires, new shocks, and we still buck. But I no longer care because we love this life so much. Great job on the DIY's....congratulations and enjoy....
These videos are becoming wonderful conformation for my wife and I that we did the correct thing for us and did not get an RV upon retirement. I downshifted to a Greenskeeper job at a golf course and she got a job at a Dress Shop as we left our stressful life behind. I set my Ram 1500 Classic with the 6’4” bed up so we can sleep under the stars off the ground; pulling the tonneau cover over us is light rain. If the weather turns really bad on out monthly camping trips around NM and TX we just get a hotel room with the money we saved by not getting an RV. We then love watching your videos as we ride our stationary bikes to remind us that we made the correct decision!
Very minor, if the slide worked like the drawer, that's a problem. Like your videos. The first one was on lake superior in tent. Big change. Happy trails.
I was always told to NEVER pressure wash an RV as that can cause delamination, or in the case of aluminum trailers, dents, dings, and leaks in between the panels. Another consideration is changing the locks from those easily opened 751 keylocks, to a more secure pin tumbler style. And don't forget to change the door lock out, as there's only about 12 keys for all the different models. I'm going to get a pair of keyless entry locks with a heftier case hardened dead bolt to keep thieves at bay. Speaking of security, you should also look into getting wireless security cameras hooked up to your wifi, so while you're away you can see if that alarm is a coyote, or a burglar looking to make some quick cash off of you. Also, get a ball lock for your tongue mount as that prevents somebody from taking off with your home, like what happened to us early Good Friday morning. Good luck, safe, and hoppy travels from The Boondocking Brewer™!
I see a few comments in the thread about the chugging issue, most of them focused on the hitch and making good points. Having towed travel trailers in the past and now towing a 5th wheel with a 1-ton GMC diesel I have come to appreciate the advantage of the "towing mode" of the GMC's Allison transmission. It changes the shift points to keep the diesel's RPMs a bit higher. This avoids the chugging that can occur when the engine is lugging at too low an RPM. I don't know whether your F350 has that feature, but if it does I recommend using it when you tow.
Thanks Jim, appreciate the comment. It does have tow/haul and an engine/exhaust brake. ( being a diesel) I did have them both on, but that is the first time the truck has towed and maybe the 10 speed transmission does go through a learning curve. Good point to note. But it was more of a lurching motion or bucking some people describe. More of a physical feeling from the trailer behind I belive....... but still good to note. Thanks I'll pay attention to that next time!
I never gave my RV back to the dealer for any adjustments. I had the same issues with drawers. I just fixed that and the other small things myself. I wasn’t ready to just leave my home for weeks with them. I get it.
You know when you are happy and you have purchase the right thing for now is a really great feeling !!!! Yes a super great feeling !! I found this interesting and informative that what you have experience with this purchase was what you where looking for. Thank you for sharing this with me!!! As always BS & BK love that saying .
I believe I spotted some kind of after market backup camera that you guys have. Do you have a video on that or, I guess what I am curious about is what is it and do you like it?
I also have an odrv that I got from Poncha. We love our rv. Had a couple cosmetic issues as well but nothing major. We did remove our kitchen table and put in recliners. Made a big difference for us. If your ever back in Salida let me know I’ll buy you a beer.
Congrats. It’s a shame you didn’t get the Pro Trailer Backup Assist option for your truck. It’s an AWESOME system that really helps new an inexperienced people backup their trailers. I’m also waiting to see how long you keep the tent on the bed of the truck before you replace it with something that gives you more storage capacity. COnsider getting a shell for the bed of your truck instead. You could always put an air mattress in there if you needed to sleep in it for any reason and it would be safer in bear country than a tent. You’d have the extra covered storage as well.
Thanks Marv! Yes, I would have opted for that option for sure, even to just get the 360 camera system that comes with it. We were lucky to find a 1 ton Tremor in April that wasn't over MSRP and didn't have much of any options! I did originally invasion a hard shell topper like you mentioned before we pivoted to the roof top tent. Maybe still one day! Thanks!
funny i just found this picked up our first 30ft monday and it was also my first tow but only thing what worried me was the backing in, and even though it did it once im still freaked by it xD
Hey you guys love your channel. We have been watching for a couple years. Congratulations!!!!! I have been a cabinetmaker for 30 years , from your discription , you might want to see if your drawers are the correct width for the openings. Remove the drawer by pulling it out all the way then there are black levers on the slides push one down and the other up. Your drawer should be exactly 1 inch less in width than the the drawer opening. Each slide takes up 1/2”. If the drawer is too small you can shim out the slides. If the drawer is too wide that’s a problem. Pat
Hey Pat! Thanks for that insight! I just measured a few of the drawers and they are about 1 inch smaller than the opening. Nothing seems to be exact in the construction🤣 But, could the drawer slides just need to be adjusted in the back? I see adjustments slide holes for the screws. I don't have a leve onboardl either. The drawers are all smooth and normal until a few inches from closing and then they tighten up. I can see some grooves forming in the back outer sides of the drawers from the slides digging in and rubbing..........
The slides digging in and rubbing. That could be the wrong screw heads, slide screw heads have a lower profile than standard ones. The slide will actually hit head of the screw if its the wrong one . Both slides should be parallel to the bottom or top of the cabinet or the drawer compartment. They should not dip down or up in the back. You can switch to the slotted hole to adjust the slide up or down. Then you will want to go back to one of the round holes, once the drawer is working properly. All that bouncing in a trailer is a challenge.
Thanks for helping me figure this out. I measured the front of the slides and then the very back of the slides and they are off .5 to 1 cm to narrow. Which makes sense....meaning the slides narrow as you close the drawer and it tightens. The back of the drawer is then making contact with the slides inside the cabinets. I'll try adjusting the back of slide out to make it a straight close. Thanks Pat!
Your trailer “backing up” training reminds me of me and my ski boat. I practiced until I was “pro like”, which I needed when I was pulling the boat over a small flat narrow over-a-culvert one-lane (temporarily) bridge that ran about 500 feet long. Halfway across I encountered an elderly couple in a small car coming from the other direction. I knew that they wouldn’t be able to back up, so I did. Nothing like backing up 250 feet in a straight line to test your trailer-handling skills.
My wife and I are thinking about getting our first RV by the end of the year. While we aren't going to be full timers, I appreciate the time and effort you put into showing us your adventure. Grand Design and Lance were the manufacturers we were looking at (did you check them out when deciding?), but now I think we have added a third option with Outdoor RV. The quality control issues are a concern, but That's on the dealers. Please keep us up to date with all the fixes, changes and upgrades you do as it will help us decide which way to go when we decide to purchase. Thanks again!
Thanks Daniel! Your in the fun stage of research and shopping! We did consider both Lance and GD. Both are really good options for a lighter trailer ( half ton towable). I feel Lance has an edge over GD with 4 seasons, build quality, tank sizes. But I think GD is about 10k less expensive. ORV's are a fairly heavy trailer, but that allows us a larger carrying capacity for full time cargo. We did a video on why we choose ORV over some of the others here ruclips.net/video/o2lu-SXQWsA/видео.html We will be doing a 6 month review and follow up soon!
Thanks for the PDI review. We are looking at OR Glacier Peak 26rks 5th wheel, good tips on area’s to focus on. We have owned a TT for 2 years so not shocked by some of the cosmetic stuff. Look forward to following your adventures in your new rig. Interesting info on the cabinets vs. doors, they are proud of there upgraded interior on the Titanium. I’m watching him and judging him😎
Good choice! We really like the smaller 5th wheel like the 26RKS, but the kitchen might be a little to small for us. The 27KVS might something for us to keep our eyes on!
To help you feel better... We got our Lance in a December blizzard in Bozeman, MT. Obviously, some systems couldn't be tested. Missed the fact the trailer had two different size wheels on it. Found it was missing the roof solar panel & controller we paid for...but it had the slide topper we didn't want. Main lesson for me (other than *avoid blizzard PDI's*): Manufacturer errors aren't as troubling as buying from a manufacturer who subsequently doesn't want to hear about them. IMO your 'issues' aren't worth mentioning.
It was when we first got there. I did pull off the access panel to check it out. Just the reflectics insulation at the bottom level and then the pink stuff was sealed above it. Didn't see any damage, but did concern us for sure!
We bought our trailer from Holiday RV also and we only had the table issue. Which was they put too short of screws is the base of the table. Other than that no issues with our Outdoors RV.
Regarding your truck "chugging", it might be the transmission computer. Some vehicles will optimize the shift points based on your load, and if you add something like a trailer it has to "re-learn" a few things. Just a thought - no idea if your truck has such a system!
Good thought Paul.....it definitely could be. Ford put a new 10 speed transmission in these starting in 2020. That was our first timing towing so the computer could be learning.....
FWIW, the drawer fronts in Titanium RVs from ORV are solid wood that matches the cabinet doors beginning with the 2023 model year. Doesn't help you, obviously, but does seem to be a sign that ORV is listening to their customers. How have you found the drawer and cabinet quality internally? One thing I have seen again and again in RVs is that the drawer and cabinet bottoms are very flimsy that you can pretty much bow upwards just by pushing from underneath with one finger, even in $100K+ fifth wheels. I'd much rather have the extra weight and get cabinets that are at least somewhat durable.
Listening.... but not taking care of their current customers. We reached out once we learned of the new drawer fronts, but because we were a month past our 1 year they wouldn't replace them. Even though we noted the poor stain quality, chipping/ flaking from the very first day we picked up our RV. 1 year later they look absolutely horrible. Quality is not the best...
My two month old 22FQS is rusting at a rapid rate. The door slides are poor as well. Just not impressed with all the hype on ORV. The Anderson hitch is pretty slick though.
Sorry to hear about your new rig and the rust! I did hear ORV frames rust pretty quick and I have seen it on 1 yo trailers. We stay out of the snow, salt, and high moisture areas so we'll see......
Did you empty all the water from your tanks before the tow home? Not doing so could explain the surging / chugging feeling you mentioned in the drive portion of the video. 24:26
I've drove truck's for over 30 plus years, I think you did awesome, theirs people that's been backing up their trailer for years and still drives me nuts to watch them, just remember, you do what you feel is right but sometimes you should listen to others so you don't smash something lol.
I suggest you reach out to Northwood Manufacturing in LaGrande, OR and share your video and list of problems. They are smart enough to want to fix everything ASAP. Especially, with everything being on RUclips. New RV owners are kind of naive when it comes to what to expect and what to do about it. Best thing is to never leave the dealership until all is fixed before the purchase. Be aware, the dealer is not going to find and fix problems that YOU do not make them fix. If you don't notice an issue - even if they've seen it before you get there - no one will pay them to fix it. So, they don't. If you see it, point it out and demand a fix they will get paid by Outdoor RV as a warranty repair.
I pull a 24' dual-axle trailer with a RAM 2500 and have an Andersen hitch. The dry weight on the trailer is about 5,000 lbs. and max GVWR is 7,000 lbs. That puts our rigs (proportionally) more or less in the same ballpark I think. I'm guessing the "bucking" is due to the Andersen hitch adjustment. My truck has no problem dealing with the trailer tongue weight (rear ride height minimally impacted and no increase in front ride height or loss of breaking/steering without the hitch chains connected). I found that reducing the chain tension decreased the bucking. Half ton trucks typically come with manufacturer specs that require a load balancing anti-sway hitch if towing at/near the maximum towing capacity. My truck/trailer combination does not fall into that category and I suspect y'all's does not either so the Andersen hitch can be viewed as an optional component if one is comfortable with the safety implications of towing without the chains connected (which also disables the anti-sway). Caveat emptor :-)
Thanks, that's good info to know. I'll try reducing the tension a bit, or even try it the other way was well if that doesn't do anything. I don't feel it all the time and I haven't messed with any adjustments yet. Thanks for sharing that. Caveat emptor.....I haven't heard that phrase before....but it is great wisdom! Let the buyer beware....love it!
Great video. We bought a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 22RBE this year. Looked very hard at ORV but no dealers here in MN. They seem like a really good trailer. Hope you can enjoy it!
Your dealership needs a good shout out!! What great costumer service!! 😊 Both times we bought our campers we got the 5-minute tour and a "Good Luck" as we pulled off. Enjoy your new home!! I ❤ it!! 😊
"Supported & coddled" LMAO Chris' face after that admission, priceless. 😆 Congrats guys! Glad not too many gremlins, safe adventures to you both. I love the outtakes at the end btw, very funny.
Congratulations…with respect. We had 2013 WindRiver 250 RDSW. Great trailer. Better service. ORV folks are wonderful. Did we have problems with the trailer yup. Most of the repairs where done at their World Headquarters factory in La Grande. As Highway 4&4 aka Steve told me at one of ORV campouts in Wallowa….buying an ORV product is like buying the best house in a crappy neighbourhood. Enjoy your trailer and your journey. If you can….attend the ORV Campout. You could win the world renowned A.R.S.C.E. Award. There are no strangers their….just friends you haven’t met. and remember..A trailer is a trailer is a trailer. Coops 😎
Thanks Coop! Appreciate the comment and thanks for the warm welcome. We are looking forward to enjoying the heck out of this ORV. I can tell the community is great. We have lots to love and a little to complain about!😉
Not sure if you addressed in comments...was airstream a better build quality? I own a Storyteller Overland Class B and the only issue with the build was the water heater was not turned up enough. its high priced and i expected quality. I dont thing many of the manufactures do any inspections prior to shipping and many dealer don't do much either even though they charge healthy money for PDI. I would have been far less excited great attitudes guys!
Hey Joseph 👋. It's hard to fairly compare two things that have such a different value or "cost". A equal 25ft Airstream is about double or roughly an extra $50,000 dollars. But I will, and did at the end of video, say Airstream has much higher quality cabinetry and I would have paid extra to upgrade ours even further........ but not 50k. 😁 thanks for watching! Oh, and I haven't seen a Storyteller in person, but have heard they are very nice and quality! Enjoy!
You're seeing the mileage I am with my new F350 6.7 CCLB... life of the truck since picking up MPG: 17.8, Empty 21mpg, stop and go: 18.5ish.. and the short amount I've towed by TT 10-11mpg...
When we picked up our Basecamp they prepared the wrong unit. Two were delivered at the same time and they mixed up the VINs. Not a huge deal except it took all day to get ours ready and install the AC. Fortunately there was a Top Golf down the street to kill some time. Didn’t leave much time for a walk through but You Tube adequately prepared us. Good luck with the new trailer!
Oh yeah...that would be a bit of a surprise on pick up day! Not too bad, like you said...... and at least they had it there and all worked out. Thanks for sharing that!😊
What was the issues that you pointed out could’ve easily been identified by the dealership during their inspection. I’m just wondering why these issues were identified ahead of time to fix before you picked up the RV.
In 2002, we bought a brand new Keystone Cougar travel trailer. We literally had zero issues. No defects on delivery. It's honestly sad to see that a lot of issues are just to be expected on new RV's these days.
Yeah its definitely different almost 20 years later..... its also such a weird time here in 2020, 2021, and into 2022. Alot of factors go into this current climate and we're hoping to see some positive changes come out...
Glad to see your settling in to your RV and thanks for the video of the PDI process, sucks you had those minor issues especially with the titanium package. Sorta glad I saved the money on mine, but we shall see. Have not spoken to Holiday to confirm they placed the order, I did email them Saturday after finalizing the deal the week prior. I know you mention that in your email to me about them. 🙄 Holiday told me it should be in to them the around the end of January so I am not looking forward to picking it up in the winter but I am sure it will be delayed by something with everything going on. I also told them I was waiting on the truck as well so they are going to work with me on the pickup process if the truck isn’t by then. Just curious if they have any room indoors for the PDI process for winter weather?? I just ordered my Tremor on Friday but I was lucky enough to get the “A” plan pricing because my uncle works for Ford. Dealer also said that he has seen customer orders getting built before any dealer orders and also A plans seem to move them ahead in production schedule as well. I went with the 250 because in the Tremor package, it is Identical frame and suspension components as the 350, according to 2 ford techs I know. Just different payload stickers and side badges according to them. Oh and I did get the trailer tow system with the cameras so hopefully that helps me, lol, I am used to towing a boat and small trailers with my current truck but this will be my first RV. I’ll be waiting to see your future videos, esp more on the Hitch and the electrical upgrades. So since Holiday ordered your hitch in are they going to stock them now or do I need to do that as well since I was looking at getting the same hitch?
Thanks Kevin! Good luck in everything showing up for you timely! Holiday does have garages there...so maybe they do have an indoor PDI place since they are used to inclement weather. They don't stock the Andersen hitches, so you need to call and ask for Patty in parts and she will order it. Fun times ahead for you!
Sorry about the water leaks, both are concerning since its brand new, the powerwash excuse didnt seem right?? Did it? , I installed a Dreamline shower, similiar to your shower, it leaks too, pain in the butt, caulk the inside seams really well.
Thanks for sharing. Did you consider an independent RV inspection service or did you feel your previous experience was enough to catch any major (or even minor) issues right away before taking delivery?
We didn't consider a paid inspection, but when we bought our Airstream Interstate, I did have Mercedes Benz do an inspection on the chassis part. But that was quite a bit more money and also a used unit. (about 4 y/o) It would definitely be a peace of mind on picking up an RV like this, but I know the warranty would cover any items that are defective. I think I like an inspection more on used units...because there is no warranty..usually.
I spent a week doing my last RV PDI. Like every day finding yet another thing that they needed to correct. Take your time look at everything, twice. Say hi to Irene for me.
I don't blame you! It is sooo much stuff to go over and you do continue to find things as you look. Maybe Irene can get off her butt and help us out! 😂
First, this is an observation and most definitely NOT a criticism! Why would you order an RV from the factory instead of buying one sitting on a dealer lot? I ask because of all of the changes that you made to the rv after you got it. You knew you were going to make these changes so why wait for one to be built? Again, congrats on the new rv! I hope you are happy with it. I look forward to hearing your opinions on how well built it is and if you like it and would recommend this brand. Thanks, kids and keep the videos coming!
To feel supported & cuddle at the same time......Aaron nailed it. Don't we all want that?. I really bekieve that the true purpose of life, the only worthy goal towards which all other endeavours in life should be reaching for.....is to find someone with whom you can give and receive support and lots of cuddling. Loved that description of the matress......a veiled analogy to love & life. Greetings fro Tampico, Tamaulipas, México.
Exciting time! Based on a lot of dealer hassles regarding repairs, if possible, I always DIY any repairs. Good luck with getting everything "ship shape". When we picked up our first TT, the dealership area, in Oklahoma City, had experienced a wind storm the night before. Several trailers were on their side. Luckily ours was good, but not what you want to see when you pull on to the dealer lot.
Hi guys. PDI = always a challenging day! We got ours from Keylowna RV, in BC Canada, and we live in Montréal, Qc...so our service is far! lol. We got lucky as we didn't have any major thing going wrong...and after 2 summers of great "glamping", we are really happy so far with the build quality. We had a Keystone Bullet prior to that....and we got quite a few things to fix and fiddle before we were happy with the TT. Shake down for us was "accross Canada drive during a full swing pandemic, masks and all" lol. We noticed right away, despite pulling with a GMC Sierra 1500 series truck that it "tracks amazing" with our Equalizer 10000 pounds hitch. Awaything our new 1 ton Sierra truck with a diesel anyway ;-) Those ORV trailers are indeed "very luxurious". You will love the quietness they have, & the sturdiness as well. Simply put: WE LOVE ours ;-) Enjoy!
The quality control issues pretty much matches our experience with a different company. We picked up a new RV in the spring and we were surprised by the number quality control issues. We decided to fix the issues ourselves since we want to upgrade a number of things in the van. We also got a great price on the RV - so I am fine.

Fit and finish stuff is always frustrating. I guess the dealer couldn't fix it before you took possession? You probably wanted to get on with it :)
i am old enough to remember when something with the Made in USA label meant the best quality in the world, now it seems like something from the distant past.
I hear ya Peter! 😊
Yup, absolute crap in our country.
I wholeheartedly agree ! Imo don't settle for poor quality products.
She looks at you with so much love. You’re great together.
If you’re not supposed to pressure wash your trailer, Does that mean you’re not supposed to tow it in the rain either?
It definitely can't handle high pressure on the door seals!
Great talk - try a hitch tightener from Amazon to stop the chucking- about 13 bucks
Bill
Congrats on the rig!! Glad to hear it was all pretty good on the pick up! Towing definitely takes a bit of practice doesn't it! Thanks for watching!
"So much data to process..." Anyone looking to buy an RV should view this video. The detail is amazing, and you present it with a smile. Loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching!!😊
Oh wow, that would have been a surprise! Glad to hear you are still enjoying your rig.....and I know you'll love the new Super Duty!😊
Best trailer made today.
Water is always a scary thing to see all over your floor! Glad to hear it all worked out and you are still loving your baby!😊
My new 2017 Grand Design Momentum toyhauler shower leaked BAD the 1st time we used it. They forgot to silicon under the shower door tracks......had to do that myself.....
The mileage really only gets better at roughly 35,000 miles.
Wait and you will see, the engine will become quieter and the mileage will be better.
Have fun you two…
Well said! Thanks Rob!😊
Oh, wow quite the story on pick up day Joyce! Unfortunately... a lot of bad dealers out there. Live and learn right? 😊
@@IreneIronTravels That's right! We should have listen to our gut feeling.
pls make more footage of you guys doing things in the rv; like cooking; arranging; packing; etc eating; chilling out...
You got it!
Whoa! Thats a laundry list! Sorry to hear of all the initial problems and hopefully they get fixed for you! RV's are a whole other world!
Oh wow, tough issues! Glad to hear your doing a great electrical system in yours.....makes a huge difference! Say hi to MN for us!😊
Recently watched another video where they toured the factory.
😂 I heard people talking about Mont-Rose while we were there! I think I like MonTrose better! 😊
Oh, you got the Anderson... should be a good system for you. Have you thought about Rock Tamers?
😂👍
Hey John! Great suggestions! Those are all on the list......except we didn't think about a 2nd spare. Thanks!😊
That's funny! And dimming is such a great feature too! I miss that from our van and will have to install a dimmer switch for the new RV!
We have a 24,000 pound DRV, pull it with a F450, new tires, new shocks, and we still buck. But I no longer care because we love this life so much. Great job on the DIY's....congratulations and enjoy....
Couldn't agree more! 👍 thanks 😊
That sounds like a lovely retirement! Glad to hear we're helping your affirmation! 🤣 thanks for watching guys!
My diesel engine didn’t break in until around 40,000 miles. Your fuel mileage will change is it breaks in.
Hello! 👋 All good and sound advice! So far we have changed the front door, added Wi-Fi cameras and gotten a hitch lock. Thank you!😊
Thanks for the video. We just picked up a 2018 keystone cougar 22rbs. It's basically the same layout and trailer.
I get it.
Yeah we hear ya Celest! I have heard way to many horror stories of people being without their RV for way too long! Fix it and move on right!😊
And now 3 years later, I haven’t had any warranty work done.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it. It is a nice choice.
Thank you! Yes, big difference from the van as far as space and feeling like a home. It is a great size, just like yours, and we are loving it!
You know when you are happy and you have purchase the right thing for now is a really great feeling !!!! Yes a super great feeling !! I found this interesting and informative that what you have experience with this purchase was what you where looking for. Thank you for sharing this with me!!! As always BS & BK love that saying .
So true! Thanks Larry for watching ! 😊 BS & BK!😊
I believe I spotted some kind of after market backup camera that you guys have. Do you have a video on that or, I guess what I am curious about is what is it and do you like it?
We are happy for you guys. Now you are home enjoy... The Banks Family
Thank you Banks! 😊
Watch out for them orange road cones.
I also have an odrv that I got from Poncha. We love our rv. Had a couple cosmetic issues as well but nothing major. We did remove our kitchen table and put in recliners. Made a big difference for us. If your ever back in Salida let me know I’ll buy you a beer.
Glad to hear you are loving your ORV! 😊 And thanks for the beer 🍺 offer....we might just take you up on that offer some day. 👍
Good choice on the Andersen WD hitching system.
Thanks 👍
Thanks!
You can buy a set of magic markers that come in various wood colors. That's how I "fixed" all of my wood chips and scratches.
Thanks Andy! Will definitely need a color touch marker! The flaking is a whole other issue though that needs to be addressed!
funny i just found this picked up our first 30ft monday and it was also my first tow but only thing what worried me was the backing in, and even though it did it once im still freaked by it xD
I can send you a picture of my Coleman -Mach digital. pro tip: vinyl sounds better than digital.
Those are some good backing skills! Nice job Bill! Now....back to practicing for us!🤣
You, Will, Be Just Fine Towing I drove A lowboy 130 Foot Long 80.000 Lbs Empty Congrats On The New RV
Thanks for the encouragement! And 130 ft, 80k lbs..... wowza! 😊
Thank you for being so upfront with the PDI good and bad. First time I've seen anything "real" w/ an ORV which I still hope will be my next.
Whoa...2 different wheels and a blizzard...crazy! Good lessons for sure.
When they did the pressure washer. Its possible it got inside the bottom and into your insulation.
There shouldn’t be a shake down inspection , it should be 100% at the time of pick up. $$$
That would be a great world!
The drawer issues are definitely going to be tricky to solve. Good luck!
I still have to take them....but hopefully its and easy fix. Thanks Joyce!
One hand at the 6 o'clock position and then simply move your hand the direction you want the trailer to go:)
I'm still working on it! That does help for sure though, thank you!😊👍
FWIW, the drawer fronts in Titanium RVs from ORV are solid wood that matches the cabinet doors beginning with the 2023 model year.
Hmmm, that’s a good question. This was a couple years ago, but they probably did put some water in the tanks while testing it out. 👍
Now go practice on a single wide space. Parking in a campground, it's amazing how narrow the roads are, and with the huge truck...oh boy.
Yes....plenty of practice!😁
I ❤ it!! 😊
5 minutes! Boo on them Shelley! 🤯
A-aron backs up a trailer like I do. Brothers from another RV mother. Congrats again on it !
Is it considered a skill to be that bad at backing up a trailer? 😂 Thanks CoCo!
Yesterday we ordered our 27' ORV Trail series MTN TRX...now the long wait for it to arrive in Feb/March!!
Congrats! 🥳
"Supported & coddled" LMAO Chris' face after that admission, priceless. 😆 Congrats guys! Glad not too many gremlins, safe adventures to you both. I love the outtakes at the end btw, very funny.
Yes! Thank you! Nothing wrong enough with the RV that would keep Chris in the tent any longer!😂
You could win the world renowned
Good to know, thanks for sharing!😊
Congratulations. You could say that you just put your tow in the water for pulling the trailer. Best of luck.
Yes! 😂😂 Thank you!
Yeah not good with the pressure washer! Good to know caulking the inside seams will take care of it. Thanks!
PDI is quite a process. Glad you checked everything out - hope they get everything repaired in a timely fashion. Enjoy your new home!
It sure is! Thanks Bruce!😊

Well you know how upper management gets. She gave her to the project after all.
Thanks Jorge! Those are good words to live by for sure! Appreciate you watching!😊
Thanks! Oh, yeah scary.... I could only image if we were pulling up to our dealer and saw multiple RVs on there side! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing that Remi!😊
The quality control issues pretty much matches our experience with a different company.
We picked up a new RV in the spring and we were surprised by the number quality control issues. We decided to fix the issues ourselves since we want to upgrade a number of things in the van. We also got a great price on the RV - so I am fine.
Make sense to fix yourself sometimes for sure. That will probably be what we do on most of the little things.
