When it comes to harsh vocals, what Corey did during their 1st album is nothing short of PHENOMENAL!! his harsh vocals in Get This, Surfacing, Sick, Eyeless, & Scissors are particularly batshit insane!!
Oooo you mentioned Queen of the Damned! There's some very interesting songs on that soundtrack! I know I'm late to the party, but thanks for this series man, it's fun to reminisce!
YES! Another good vid, Slipknot is my favorite band, they have not made one bad album and they really are one of those bands that knows how to evolve with the times. Their self-titled debut is my favorite Nu Metal album of all-time and will always be my favorite Slipknot album. "Vol. 3" is definitely a close second, that album really showed signs of the band maturing and evolving and just an overall unique album. As for Korn, they are an all-time favorite of mine, but in my opinion their first 4 albums were when they were at their best. "Untouchables" was the album where they started to lose their edge in my opinon, wasn't a fan of that album honestly. "Take A Look In The Mirror" felt like a desperate attempt to return to their old sound but didn't really come close. Personally, I thought "See You On The Other Side" was a very good and refreshing album, sure it was a lot more experimental than their previous efforts, but sounded more focused musically and lyrically than both "Untouchables" and "Take A Look In The Mirror" which in my opinion made it better than both of those albums. So will you be talking about Papa Roach and Coal Chamber next? Both those bands are examples of Nu Metal bands who started off good on their first 2 albums but then went downhill by their third album.
Hi, Slipknot yuh first album was vicious! I was listening to it as I was editing this video! Corey’s voice was crazy back than! We are so lucky to have gotten that album! Korn’s “Untouchables” I know what you mean, but it still had some great singles such as Here to stay, thoughtless, alone I break I also like hollow life. Take a look in the mirror is kind of a weird one, it still has quite a few great songs did my time, counting on me, everything I’ve know to name a few, but overall feel of the album is kind of off. See you on the other side was one of my fav back in the day... but I’ve listened to it so much when came out that I can’t really listen to it anymore. Haha Papa roach I have a bit of a skeptical opinion on. I feel like they tried to jump on board with every trendy thing that came along! Kind of pisses me off! Don’t know much about coal chamber actually, I think I prefer Dez Fafara with devildriver. But I did use their picture because they actually broke up for 10 years or so. So I am not sure how to wrap up this segment of series it’s a lot of bands man! I will be talking about Papa Roach, SOAD, P.O.D., some industrial NU metal hybrids for sure. Anyway, nice talking to you!
I feel the same way about Papa Roach, "Infest" and "Lovehatetragedy" were their creative peak. After those 2 albums, they just lost their edge in my opinion. I also agree with you on Dez, Devildriver is an overall better band.
Very dark hard metal. Maybe try Death metal? They have elements of that particular sub genre maybe even some thrash influences from Slayer too. “Dark hard metal” is not a thing really. And Slipknot sounds nothing like Korn. No, are you trolling of for real? This is too funny
Just curious. Do you think the nu metal trend died in 2003 or 2005? I can’t think of any new nu metal bands or classic nu metal albums that were in 2004-2005
Good question. I would have to say that past 2003 all the big bands took things in a different direction. LP had Meteora, Korn in 2005 CU on the other side was a rather drastic change, SLIPKNOT’s vol 3 I spoke about in this video, Papa Roach went into some emo stuff in 2004, LB were trying hard to have a different sound in results may vary, deftones dropped Nu Metal with white pony... there definitely some underground bands still playing Nu metal but they were pretty much late to the party people had enough of Nu metal by 2003. Even POD’s Sony stopped rapping as much in mid 2000’s. Well basically these series are about that. And the bands I mentioned above I have covered. And more
saystheman behindthemask thanks man the only nu metalish albums I can think of past 2003 is chevelles second album and maybe statixs start a war. Btw out of curiosity would you consider bands like breaking Benjamin , non point , thousand foot Krutch And Seether nu metal?
Static-X's Start a War I suppose IS related to Nu Metal. But I always found them rather unique and for sure with influence of Industrial and groove metal later on. Chevelle I need to get back and listen to. Breaking Benjamin and Seether early stuff was related to Nu Metal but also Post Grunge. Nonpoint and TFK belong to that second wave of Nu Metal that got more alt rock vibes... well all of them really do, except for Static of course.
I have a strange relationship with that album. I began listening to Korn when that album came out, so I remember being very much into “I did my time” and “Ya’ll want a single” and later “Everything I’ve known” and “Counting on Me” and a few other tracks but retrospectively now it seems a strange album in terms of where it is in their discography. It’s between “untouchables” and “See you on the other side” both very creative and electronic albums. TALITM feels like it should have been released after “issues”.
"Slipknot maintained their sound for the first two albums". Not sure what second album you were listening to but Iowa was totally different to the first album.
Well I highly doubt many people will agree with you. Judging by the comments at the very least no one has disagreed with me on this. Both albums are usually considered similar to their sound with Vol.3 being significantly different and more metal less alternative if you will. Take songs like my plaque and wait and bleed... it very easy to draw parallels between the 2. Take skin ticket, scissors and even Iowa (in terms of length) take purity and gently... heretic anthem and surfacing! all these songs have parallels between them in one way or another. Production might be different so is music to an extent but there is a very distinct line between Slipknot before Iowa and after Iowa 2 different eras for Slipknot. The energy is very much the same, less agitated and more confident in case of Iowa but no one would say that’s a different band. There were no songs like vermilion p2 or Dead memories on either of 2 records that would make you scratch your head. Iowa was a natural progression to Self titled nothing more nothing less... where Vol.3 was a conscious deviation from their earlier sound. So, Yes... I think I hit the nail on the head with that statement... you obviously can choose to disagree.
Hey i just added Russian subs to one of the videos, hope you like it. Sorry it took me so long. Subs for other 2 videos coming soon. In meantime link below for Part 3. ruclips.net/video/QRLXdmPmfDA/видео.html
Imo Korns best work was in their first four albums. Especially the first two. Untouchables was absolutely horrible imo. Everything else that has followed Untouchables has had some good stuff but ultimately has pretty much sounded the same. They got comfortable in a certain sound and haven't really deviated from it other than some missteps like this whole Skrillex nonsense. As horrible as it sounds to say JD did his best work when his head was all kinds of fucked up. Back when he had real darkness and raw emotion. Now it's just fake. I still actually like Korn. I just keep it real. But these are just my opinions.
Slipknot is Nu metal. People need to learn and accept the fact. Nothing wrong with that either. Like korn and deftones, they too have aged well. It's annoying when "maggots" try to justify Slipknot not being nu metal
Unfortunately this sub genre is well used to shaming, which is why most want to disassociate from it. A lot of good bands came from Nu Metal but a lot of bad bands as well unfortunately
I know what you mean but I kind of enjoyed LP and LB back in the day. Today... well I still appreciate Chester's voice beside LP was kind of a gateway band into heavy music for me... hated LB at first but than kind got into them... but I prefer their early stuff. I suppose it is easier for me to switch off my brain when it came to shitty lyrics of LB since english is not my first language. Evanescence for the most part I am indifferent... Crazy Town is where it really went downhill. I would add bands like Dope and Adema to that list... even though Adema had a few cool songs the singer really could not sing live for his life!
Well... yes I did slip Slipknot in the same way as Korn after them. They don't really like being associated with Nu Metal too. There will be other videos on them this is just covering their discography up until Vol.3. and actually, there are videos on Corey Taylor's voice like 4 of them! Check VOICES series on my channel... they are all over 10 minutes long.
I’m putting on my Iowa record right now!!! Volume 3 was bad in my opinion the production is awful and songs are like Stone Sour Volume 2 ! Listen to the first song on each album it’s night and day. Now that last record they put out was the best thing since Iowa!

No problem! Glad you like it! And yes QOTD was a sweet soundtrack indeed!
Was introduced to Orgy and Rammstein from Korn's Family Value Tour VCD; man I feel old.
yuh tell me about it! time sure flies when you're having fun! =)
@@saysthemanbehindthemask You know it buddy! XD

All Hope Is Gone was a terrible album, other than the rest are all 10/10 in my opinion.
Slipknot was ambitious they went to the edges between Korn and very dark hard metal.

Corey Taylor formed Stone Sour back in 1992 while Slipknot formed in 1995 with their original singer Andres.
Ok, yes. I think most people on here are aware of that. I however don’t remember what I said in this video by now.
hed pe real eased a good album in 2005 in fact it's my favorite by them scars of life also real eased a good album that year too.

@@saysthemanbehindthemask in my opinion the bad bands are Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, crazy town, and evanesance

Korn disbanded was very sad.
Korn did not disband. Are you trolling? Haha
take a look in the mirror was raw as, i love it, coincidently they also consumed the most amount of drugs making that album
It’s not my favourite album of theirs but there are quite a few great tracks on there
KoЯn taking kore drugs on Take a Look in the Mirror? That's hard to believe when comparing their earlier albums (especially Self Titled)
Imagine if they never showed their faces

I did not hate Vol.3 at the time but I do find it hard to listen to now. WANYK was pretty impressive though for sure.
