This album will always hold a special place in my heart. It got me through some awful shit in my teens. My parents were worried when they heard this blasting from my room, when in actual fact it was this album that got me through the worst of it! I'm so glad I found slipknot 16 or so years ago, I praise this band for allowing me to take my anger out through music and not on myself. Iowa still feels like a stress reliever when I listen to it. I owe these guys a lot.
Would you like any album recommendations for other angry stress relievers? Or maybe something soft and comforting - the other side of the musical spectrum?
This is my definition of ASMR
Especially back in jr high
I relate 100% to this! Some people think that music like this makes the listeners aggressive, I think it has the exact opposite effect in most cases. The friendliest crowds I've been in have been at metal gigs, I've always felt a sense of unity. You strike up conversations with random strangers and in general, people are looking out for each other. As far as aggression goes, I always find that music like this calms me down, if I've had a shitty or frustrating day, then bands like Slipknot exorcise the anger for me without me feeling like I need to go out and punch a hole in a wall, if that makes sense. Well, it *will* make sense to other fans, if other people don't like it and don't get it, fuck 'em!

i saw him in a 180 degree position...what a lad! and rip ofc...
HE definitely knew how to put his food down on them petals.
He had litterally changed the way of metal drumming. A genius at the beginnings of the metal drumming renewal. He opened the way of a heavy and speed, at the same time, drumming.

Slipknot is the definition of angry, pissed off and hating the earth. I listen to a lot of death metal etc, but nothing really compares to slipknot's first two albums. So much anger, so much hype, everything about those two albums makes someone wanna punch holes through people's torso's.
Yes, IOWA is something special here, was and still is a 10/10 for me.
Yeah Slipknot's first two, and Marylin Manson's first few were/are outliers.
don't want to punch holes in anyone's torso's ever, but this is a good album.
@@flor18gatar have you worked in the food industry?
@@defaultuser2927 yessir, I have. It sucks, and people treat you as if you're below them. As much as I want them to be taught a lesson, I don't actually want to inflict long term harm on anyone. Have to be careful not to turn into the thing you hate. I'm a pretty mellow dude. Don't instigate, de-escalate. Violence is never the answer. Unless it's self defence, or protecting your loved ones.
I lived a privileged life so at the time when I hadn't yet experienced anything bad I couldn't see the appeal in Slipknot. Give it a few years with a streak of awful events piling up and I slowly started to lose it. Two of my friends were killed by a drunk driver, a couple of family members were dying one by one in the same year, and I woman I loved left me. That same year I remember holding a .357 Magnum to my head.
Believe me when I say, in the strangest way possible that Slipknot saved me. I saw them live and was severely hurt in those mosh pits where I found myself again.
I've been calm like Buddha ever since.
Thank you Paul and Joey. You guys saved me from myself.

I've had some time to let it sink in, gather my thoughts, and reflect on Joey's death.
It's funny, getting older and revisiting music that you clung to so dearly when you were growing up. You move on and realize that many of the things that pushed you into the anger and hate that consumed you then have all passed you by; we see things differently and have learned either how to reconcile those things or have eliminated them entirely. Shawn Crahan himself put it perfectly in regards to letting all of the hate go: "I know a part of me would have been really sad that I never got better." For years I came to view my anger and angst as the only things that could define me. I buried myself in them and used them as coping mechanisms. But deep down I hated how I felt. I just wanted to be happy.
It's immature to try and hold onto the feelings and ideologies and sentimentalities that you had growing up. While for me I always related and will continue to relate to the line from Nirvana's "Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle", "I miss the comfort of feeling sad"; I know I can't live like that forever. It's fucking exhausting.
Listening to Slipknot today brings me back to when I was a teen and I smile. I remember how life was then and how far I've come. I still remember all the words to their first two albums, but all the anger that poured out of me is gone. I see the band as the people they are, and as I've learned about their personal lives and what they sacrificed for their music, I respect them tremendously. They were the band people loved to hate for their outfits and gimmicks and nu-metal trappings, but man, those guys put everything into their art.
Joey was the first drummer I knew by name, by face, and by style. He was insane. That dudes music filled a huge majority of my high school years and Im happy I had it. Having people youve never met understand your feelings and convey them into art you could never make was the greatest sense of release for me. Now most of the lyrics sound kinda dorky, but I remember how I felt when I was younger.
This is still one of my favorite albums of all time. Regardless of what Ive listened to since and will listen to in the future, this is still Top 5 for me. This shit gets me fuckin JUICED. And thats the thing with metal, man: good metal ages like a fine wine and it brings positivity through negativity. It's the perfect release and reflection of whats brewing deep inside. You let it out and all that's left is the calm.
Here's to you Joey.
🕯🤘

40:46 the Hate starts to build up.
41:02 You take the anger out on other people, desperately trying them to understand
41:15 failing to understand why noone gets you (building more tension with someone) and realizing that there is no end to your suffering (whatever it is)
41:27 breaking point into complete insanity. This is where murders and other scary shit happens.

I was 18 when this album came out and feel the same way I felt back then. The only good song is Plauge and all other songs sounds like Bullshit trash can music. This is the reason why music sucks today. Can't even hear the fucking bass player. Thank god for Japanese Rock music.

RIP Joey, you'll be missed. Blasting this for you today.
very rarely in life do you come across true perfection. IOWA is perfect from start to finish. not one error, not one misplaced note. not one member gave too little and they all died giving too much. I cannot have objects in my hands nor can I drive a vehicle while Slipknot is playing especially IOWA.
#MAGGOTFOREVER #MAGGOT
I was 13 first time hearing this and I thought it was the heaviest, sickest and most sinister shit I'd ever come across. Now I'm 30 and I still feel that way.
wtf man, i was also 13 when i bought it and now i am 30
I was 13 first time hearing it too...and now I'm turning 20 this August 6🤘🏻
Lol same here, but ill be 30 next year.
I was 12 now I'm 30
Same here dude. 13yrs old. I saw them at ozzfest 2001 just a month before this album came out. I remember they played a few off Iowa and I just remembered thinking that the album was going to be insane! It definitely didn't disappoint and even now that I'm 30, it's still just as heavy and powerful as it was when I first heard it!
Los 3 primeros albumes de Slipknot son los mejores que sacaron
Wey super siii
The time when we thought they'd be like this forever
I was in a summer camp with some kiddos as a coordinator. The second day i waked up all the guys there blasting this thru giant ass speakers, you wouldn't believe how many kiddos got out of their tents headbanging haha.
Man simply amazing, I wish I was there this day
Hell yeah
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Did you spare their souls and skip 515? Or did they wake up in hell? Lol
This entire album, mostly Disasterpieces, Heretic Anthem, and People = Shit represent the pure distilled rage and anger that makes us capable of very unsavory acts. I'm glad Corey went down whatever depths he went to in order to make this masterpiece a reality and give angry people both a voice and an outlet. This album got me through a lot.
Well Yeeaaaaaa.....
Iowa was a very dark album for slipknot that's why there's nothing after subliminal verses leasing up to gray chapter. He said it was pulling him into such a dark place that's why he started stone sour.
@@monoxidechild6161 Stone Sour was before he ever joined Slipknot
@@devil666245 He started it again after iowa was released
It's a good album, one of their best
This album gives me power...
me too
Same.
Came here after Joey's death. I still cry, but those are the most manly tears you can imagine. Another legend went too soon. Rest in peace Joey. The best drummer we could wish for.
Him and Paul are now together rocking out in heaven

Happy birthday to the darkest slipknot album!
Not the darkest, but it is the nastiest
@@eridinthevirgin4191 Hi, what do you think the darkest is? have a good day
@@massimocarta666 self titled
OH YEAH YEAH
@@massimocarta666 Definitely self-titled, but I like this one better! Not so raw, but musically better, lyrics better suited, production is more clear too...
I have always loved slipknot. Lost this album but Santa got me a new one. If you’re ever feeling sad, lonely or angry rock the fudge out to this. Peace & love & metal 🤘🏻Rock on
Nothing screams Christmas break like listening to this album while playing hardcore Minecraft.

Old Slipknot Forever! 🤘🏽😈😝
Slipknot will never be able to replicate this masterpiece
John Williams
This really aint as good as people make it seem
@@deadroses19 it really is though. The guitaring, the drumming, the vocals, the lyrics etc.
@@strider5119 The vocals are awful. More to music than drumming technicality, the guitars are nothing special here.
Why should they try to? Their albums since this are masterpieces in their own ways
@@Milkmytoe youre wrong this is a great album... the mastering is perfect here, also some very catchy grooves and drum fills.... i would say that st album was their best work but this one has that original old slipknot style sound just like it meant to be done... i wonder what st would sound with this sound mastering...
This album never gets old. Brutal all the way. Love it!
You don't know what real metal is
@@skizzzle this is definitely metal. Gtfo
what the fuck does that even mean? man i hear from opeth to obscura, the faceless rivers of nihil, belphegor, and this shit its very heavy but in another way, moron its not even related with gow much you know about metal, thats the problem with narrow minded metalheads fuck off
True
Why tf we gotta argue over dumb shit just enjoy the tunes and headbang
I'm listening to this after like 15 years since listening to it the last time and this album is just so good on so many levels. I know exactly why I liked to listen to it. Instruments and vocals are mixed so well, everyone sounds like they're at their best. The songwriting is real good on this. It's dynamic, heavy when it needs to be with quiet breaks where they need to be. The lyrics are relatable for lonely or disenfranchised. Being a teenager can be really intense
Oye lo único que entiendo es good es en inglés Dios cómo te llamas yo me llamo licia pero me gusta que me digan liby ok estamos a mano si o no?? Soy de argentina y tú de que país eres y que te gusta más boca o river yo river
First Slipknot album I ever heard when I was 13! By just listening to the whole thing it makes me feel that age again.
It's July 31st, Summer of 2005, just four days after my birthday, and my sisters and I are walking around waiting for the movies to start after buying tickets. we walk into a music store and one of them buys this album, and after the movies we're in the car heading home and she starts blasting it and I could not believe what I was hearing. It was the best shit I ever heard man and that's when I fell in love with Slipknot's music and I fuckin loved this entire album ever since 🖤!
The songs on the CD, especially My Plague reminds me of how I felt about starting 7th grade at my new middle school that new year. Anxious to start but nervous about how it was gonna be like since it was completely different from my old elementary school with new kids and new teachers. And well..... let's just say it's not what I thought it would be like
gran historia amigo.... saludos....
This helps me vent any frustration or anger I have. It never fails. Even many years later.
