    We used these at an outdoor event in August. (2 ELX200 subs) paired with the ELX 12p's for the tops. These little subs ROCKED, DUDE!! 250 people and dancing/partying all night. We were on a wooden platform stage about 10 inches high which may have helped enhance the bass frequencies a little. No, obviously they didn't perform like 18's would have. But there was plenty enough punchy bass from these little 12" gems to keep the attendants dancing right to the end. I always believed anything under 15" for a subwoofer simply wasn't worth it. After just one gig the ELX200's my mind has changed forever. Again, outdoor gig, crowd of 250 (or more), 2 12 inch subs, sound was close to perfect with plenty of bass output to keep everyone happy.

    Since making this video I did purchase the Bose Sub1. Very impressed by its performance, thin form factor and class leading light weight at 35.5lbs! Hands down the best live sound sub if weight is your #1 consideration. At $800 a little more than the EV. Many DJs like the look of all Bose products. I would say their performance is equal. EV still wins because of the wonderful Bluetooth App control!

    For those wanting to go to the next step up in bass performance look at the similar EV ELX200-18. Lightest 18" sub out there! At 64lbs too heavy for me. At $850 only $150 more than the 12". Tempted to use the 15% off GC coupon. Uses the same amp but goes louder to 132db vs 129dB of the 12".

    Another important advantage of the Bose S1 Pro: It has a dispersion of 120 degrees. A typical point and shoot 12 inch speaker covers only 75 degrees. My best speaker the QSC K8.2 has only 105 degrees. What this means is that the Bose will cover a larger audience space, especially with one speaker.

    I have deejayed probably over 150 weddings outside without using any sub at all. Just a pair of 12" powered Alto speakers (Back over 10 years ago I used 15" JBL JRX passive speakers). I sold my 18" JBL JSUB a long, long time ago. I currently only use a 12" Alto TSUB212S subwoofer, and it is plenty of punchy bass for weddings. I only bring out the Sub if the wedding is in a BIG ROOM with 140+ attendees. 18" Subs are not needed unless you are doing big events with 350+ like a high school prom or homecoming dance or perhaps a big college event. Just my opinion after deejaying for 22 years.

    Why don’t you use crossover on the bose? I have a similar setup but have the older zxa1 subs. I make sure to plug in to the subs first and then to the tops with a crossover of 100hz. It puts less stress on your bose s1 and you won’t get any distortion unless you are clipping

    Great stuff
    Wondering A year later what are your thoughts? Are these 2 subs still the leaders for the mini system? I'm leaning more toward the EV for use with by S1Pro and Turbosound 300. I also have a Evolve 50 which would probably sound dynamite with the EV sub added to it. I agree 100% on having an app for the device. I'd rather not carry the extra 10 pounds but sometimes the bose "magic" is a little too specific for a particular sound. That is not always what I'm looking for. The EV seems to have a more realistic bass projection. I like the mass of the 12" driver for moving more air than the ractrack.
    Cheers

      @WWeiss-nv5vz  Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes, these are still the top lightweight subs on the market. Bose Sub1 is lighter and has that thin profile. Advantage of the Sub1 with the S1Pro is you have the automatic high pass filter setting that matches up. Personally I don't hear a huge difference. The EV is a louder sub and has that Club Mode that really thumps! I pair the EV ELX sub with my EV30 and it is great running everything off the one App! Between the two, EV is the superior sub.
      Forgot to mention another sub I own and have never reviewed. RCF 702 same weight as EV 42Lbs. Really thumps! 129dB slightly louder than EV but $200 more at $1,100. Only downside, no App.

    Some more critical Specs: The frequency response of the Bose S1Pro goes down to 62Hz on the low end. Adding this subwoofer the frequency response now extends down to 40 Hz. These missing low end frequencies make a huge difference! Adding a sub creates a full range system.

    • @tortugacastro
      @tortugacastro 3 года назад +2

      Hello, nice video! You could also use the input on the subwoofer and connect the ELX200sp's output to the Bose, taking advantage of the Electro-Voice crossover. That way you would release the bass load on the Bose S1, it would sound louder and even the battery would last longer. And that's not to mention that by using the built-in crossover you would avoid overlapping the crossover point of the frequencies, obtaining a flatter sound. Likewise, the system would be super compact, you would only lose the bluetooth transmission.

    I've been thinking about buying this exact subwoofer for my S1 Pro. This EV sub is quite powerful and very flexible hence it's dsp and has a very small footprint for what it offers.
    What worries me with this setup is that I don't see any way to keep away the low frequencies from the S1 Pro without using a separate mixer. As far as I read, the output of the sub as well as the S1 pro is always unfiltered. Or maybe I've missed something in the video..

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz

      You're correct it doesn't have a high pass filter. If you want that go with the Bose Sub1. I tried playing the S1 Pro with Sub1/High pass filter and didn't hear a huge difference. In my opinion EV is the higher performing sub.

    • @mannikj2324
      @mannikj2324 2 года назад +2

      What a shame. If we just had a low cut on the S1 everything would be fine. Actually I letting S1 play full range along with a subwoofer is not an option. I need a low cut filter, because I'd like to use the system with my elctronic drum kit and the S1 struggles a lot with the low impact of the kick drum. It sounds really distorted even on the low volumes I'm aiming for. So I somehow need to protect it so it can shine in the higher frequencies.

      @@mannikj2324 I also play electronic drums and the S1Pro is not the best for that application. Only thing you can do is cut the bass EQ on the S1 to zero.

    The cheap mic I'm using from my iPad doesn't pick up the bass. In person the bass is slamming!

    Hate to say I told you so, when I made this video the EV sub was on sale for $650. Then it went back up to $700. Now it has jumped to $900 the same price as the Bose Sub1! I told you so.

      For a Microsystem, $700 to $800 is a lot of money to spend on a subwoofer. You can buy a Harbinger S12 Compact Sub which is 400-watts RMS, 1,000W Peak, 130dB Max SPL on sale right now for $299.99. Harbinger was junk 10 years ago, but they have stepped their game up A LOT. Can buy a 3 year protection plan for under $100 on it just in case it gets damaged at some point. Return it, and get a brand new one in return if something happens to it. I listened to it. It's a solid bass sound for a 12" sub. Or, buy the Alto TS212S Subwoofer. Only weighs about 44.5 lbs and that one cost $399. Only problem is, it's backordered at most places at the moment. It's a popular sub.

      @@djrickyb Thanks for the heads up! I was looking for reasonably priced subs to match with under $500 tops. The most popular with the most reviews is the Behringer B1200 12" at $330. I'll look into the Alto and Harbinger lines.

      Right? And the zxA1 have increased by $150 too. I was looking at them as well as these.

      EXM sub is one of the first battery subs on the market, but it is very weak at only 100 watts. It is also expensive, Not in the same league as the 480 watt Bose Sub1 or the 600 watt EV EXL200.

    Just a suggestion. I get your idea of just reading spec's, but it can be misleading on your outcome. I had the second version of the Bose Lt1 until I opted to get a QSC rig which I used from 2010 to the present when I purchased the updated LT1 Pro 32 with a Sub2 and have been presently surprised on the performance! Even though the Bose has a 480watt rating, its SPL is rated 2 points below my QSC's and RCF's at 128. Everyone was amazed for the size of my "new" rig and the sound quality and the distance and fidelity it had outside. I understand wanting to get a many people to spend time to watch you videos, but you will loose viewers with baseless assumptions....

      Thanks for your feedback. I too have the Pro32/Sub2 and agree it is amazing! Total watt rating is 1,480 with the sub. I agree 130dB vs 128 dB would not be a very noticeable difference. Not many people have the option of A/Bing these systems in a store so pointing out specs is a valid way to compare. My goal is not to get as many people watching videos. I'm doing this for my own fun and maybe helping a newbie who knows nothing about speakers narrow down their choices. Maybe you can clarify, What were the baseless assumptions you are referring to? Thanks again.
