They would have prevented me from making this video.
Hey Scott! I follow you and keep up with all of your videos. I'm a big fan! However, this video was extra special. I'm an old guy but for the past few decades, I've been associated with EV as a designer and user via the rep firm I worked for. I, of course, have lots of EV gear and my main system is the Evolve 50. I reviewed the Everse 8 when EV released it and at that point, I figured they had another winner and as you and others have shown, they do! I just want to thank you for your review of this outstanding product and I hope your readers and subscribers really come to understand this product as it not only has great features but when one considers its SPL capabilities as a battery powered speaker, there simply is no comparison. I hope you may consider reviewing other EV products such as their mics and wireless products. I use the RE520, RE420, RE20 and the N/D 868. I also have their Zx1's and the rare SB2a subs. I would suggest looking at the RE3 wireless as it can broadcast uniquely via the 600Mhz band. Very handy! And FYI, because of your reviews, I am a Phenyx Pro and Stage Traxx 3 user! Thanks again Scott!
Thanks Gary!! I appreciate that 😊 And yes I absolutely love EV products. My 90s band I play in is the only show that I do not have to provide PA/sound for (when we need to bring sound) and my singer has an EV setup as well. We are huge fans, so I was extremely stoked to get to review this system. It’s so well designed, and I would love to review more in the future 🤘🤘
Also, I looked up that system about the 600mhz range (this video: ruclips.net/video/e_-IpvvQjmU/видео.html ) and I’m blown away! I had no idea that was a thing!! 🤯 Thanks for sharing that 🤘
I keep stumbling on your reviews and you've quickly become a trusted voice. It's so hard to find people who aren't just schills to get free gear from sponsors. We have similar taste. My main rig is built around an HX Stomp and my go-to PA speakers are EVs. I have ETX-15Ps. The Everse 8 is definitely my next acquisition!
Thank you! I really appreciate that. I always make sure to use the gear live in my reviews (at least almost all of the time), so I’m glad to hear people find that helpful. And nice setup! You can’t beat HX Stomp + EVs 🤘
This system looks absolutely awesome! I have been using a Roland Street Cube EX for about four or five years, and I really like it, but it lacks Bluetooth. I really like the weather resistant options on the EV system, and the tray for the top is simple genius. The guys on the product design team for EV hit a home run! Great video, Scott! I always learn a lot from you!
Incredible review, Scott. Those are Sweet upgrades. I’m still digging One of the in ear monitor systems you recommended. I used affiliate links of course. Now a friend is ready to buy as well. Thanks again
Watched this as a very, very happy owner of the Everse 8 (for acoustic solo and duo performances using an extra pedalboard for guitar plus extra channels such as stompbox and BeatBuddy via a StompMix 4 mini mixer). It‘s every bit as brilliant as you point out, and I say that coming from the Bose S1 Pro, which I‘ve enjoyed using for many years. The Everse 8, however, is in an entirely different league. It reaches deeper down in frequency, has a much more transparent and authentic treble region (which tends to be comparatively a bit harsh without EQ, but it has plenty of EQ options to tame that), and it offers tons more control over every parameters, plus compression and built-in reverb you can actual tweak. There is no reason at all to get a Bose S1 Pro anymore, unless of course you prefer its Bose signature sound, which is warm and a bit muffled by comparison, or like its slightly smaller form factor better. I‘ll probably still hold onto my Bose just as an extra floor wedge, or to expand my one-speaker Everse E8 setup if and when needed. I figure it won‘t net me much cash if I try to sell it nowadays, especially since the retail price has plummeted since the release of the Everse 8. P.S.: The clarity of the Everse reminds me a lot of my old Mackie SRM 450 powered speakers (the ones that used to have the Italian chassis built in, before Mackie started to use the Chinese ones): Very transparent and true-to-life with just a wee bit of EQing. I found I can once again use my higher-end mics because you can actually hear there subtle differences - the ones that got lost on the Bose S1 Pro, with its tendency to press its (admittedly pleasant) sound signature on everything.
Wow !!! Man do I feel like a dinosaur… I’m still using my very heavy old amp with my mixer board. Great video on this powered speaker. 500 w And light weight.. thats a wow factor too. Thank you doing a review….. and yes, had that rain conversation a few times and someone always has 4 x4 tarp to cover over all the equipment and band.. lol 😂😂😂
On the subject of "We're just going to hope for the best"… I was playing on a cruise ship (private cruise) a long time ago, and they'd set up a giant party for the last night on the back deck. Rain kept looking more and more likely, and we could see giant thunderheads on the horizon. The crew kept saying, "Cap'n says it's not going to rain" and they were trying to convince us to set up. I finally had to be the "bad guy" and said no. My band members looked at me as if I'd really screwed the pooch… and then thirty minutes later, the deluge was unbelievable. WHEW!
Yup! Someone has to be the “bad guy” in those situations. Our other guitar player had to do that at one show where they just refused to have us covered. We could literally hear the thunder as they were talking. The lady wouldn’t even look at us the rest of the night she was so furious. My favorite was “if there is ANY chance of rain we will move inside.” It absolutely monsoons (this was in Wyoming), and afterwards she goes “well it’s done now right? So you can setup?” Luckily there was another production crew (who I helped tarp everything) and I just had my IEM rack and stuff like that. There were literally power outlets upside down in puddles all over the stage. She still wouldn’t move it inside lol. It’s insanely frustrating. Always have insurance on your gear and do not be afraid to be the “bad guy”
@@ScottUhlMusic Hah! Another quick "rain's coming!" story: About two years ago, we were playing outside, facing west (I'm in Nebraska). We were watching the radar and seeing a big storm headed our way. The giant thunderheads started looming on the horizon, with big flashes of lighting. The audience, with their backs to it, didn't see it. At the end of our second set, we said, "Well, we'd better skip that last set and get out of here!" There were quite a few "Boo!'s". Then we said, "Turn around and look behind you…" The audience was gone inside of ten minutes. We luckily got our gear torn down and packed away just before all hell broke loose.
Hi! I want to ask you something. The maximum sound pressure of the Everse 8 SPL is 121 dB when all three volume controls are set to maximum? From the main speaker page + from the Bluetooth audio channel + The main volume? I was so amazed listening to metallica on a street volume test that I almost fell over from the sound wave, as if a hurricane, tornado and tsunami swept by at the same time
Replay!!! Thorough as you can be!!! Well done Scott! I held off in buying any more battery powered speakers because I didn’t want them to just around while not being used if the power at and event goes out. Out of the two options, I was advised to go with this one the utmost versatility in what I can use it for.
Hey Scott thanks for your review. 9 out of 10 times, they hope for the best.😅 I am a mobile dj and do alot of weddings, cocktails, and ceremonies on farms.
I picked up one of these a couple of months ago to replace my acoustic amps. Super versatile, powerful, and portable. I had trouble after updating firmware - I could no longer save one level setting after the update. Sweetwater sent me a replacement. I’ve been avoiding the firmware update on the new unit. Would love to know if anyone else has applied the firmware update - any issues?
Just got one a couple weeks ago, and it’s great! Light weight, and has been plenty loud so far! Only thing I wish I could do, is use different effects on each channel. Would love to apply some delay to the guitar channel only.
You can buy a usb c to 15v dc and power your slxd. I use 2 dual slxd receivers powered by usb power banks with ripcords and use the Behringer flow 8 as my mixer since it’s powered via usb. I don’t need a super loud setup so I can have everything battery powered and the wireless and mixer are inside a 3u shallow rack all connected and powered so all I have to do is connect the xlr to the speaker.
Scott, I’m reviewing this video again as I’ve been testing out new ways of using it for wireless ceremony audio with an analog or digital board. What prompted this was how I can create the same battery-powered and wireless environment as the Alpha Theta Wave8 speaker which uses a proprietary box to communicate using 5.1ghz. I did this two different ways using the Aux Send post fade and Main Outs of each board with the SLXD portable system you reviewed. Two systems are needed for this test and works flawlessly. I tried the same thing with older Shure UHF-R UR5 receivers and UR1 transmitters without any issues too. Just wanted to share my findings with using two of these speakers and the versatility of these wireless systems! Cheers!!
Hey Scott...very thorough review! What's your thoughts of how this'd work for an el bass, or EUB speaker for a jazz trio gig in a coffee shop sized room?
I definitely think it would work! You won’t get a huge amount of bass thump with a smaller speaker, but for a coffee shop you don’t want a super deep subwoofer sound anyways.
Thanks, Buddy... I'm getting it! Purchasing one now from Sweetwater (Bill Sears). I'll get another soon to have STEREO monitors for gigging, listening, woodshedding, traveling to the Up North Wisconsin Cottage, and more...@@ScottUhlMusic
Hey man, great review. Only thing i havent been able to figure out is if you have access to any of the handles on the speaker to carry it while in the protective cover. Did they add a zipper or opening for this?
The conversation with wedding couple and/or the wedding planner goes just like that. You only forgot to mention the support you get by food people who stand on the musicians side.. they’ll be moving every damn piece in as well
Nice presentation and information. I've enjoyed my pair of 8s for about 6 months. I do about 11 one hour shows and plug them in while performing the 12th show, rinse and repeat! I am interested to know this: I currently use a mixer to go L/R from my keyboard and L/R out of my mixer to each speaker *achieving stereo. I am able to put my mic in the mixer, thus it comes out of both speakers. I was wondering if I can use a wireless mic transmitter in to one 8 speaker and somehow get the mic out of both speakers? If so, I can also do (2) other transmitters from my keyboard into each speaker for stereo? I would hope this works, if so..would be amazing. I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS - they sound so good.
Very interesting. If I understand correctly I can't have a different mix between the speaker and the XLR Out (named "mix out"). Isn't it? It should be useful to me but we can't have everything.
Thanks for the review Scott. I'm currently using the LD Systems Maui 5 Go (column system similar to a Bose compact) paired with a Behringer Flow 8 mixer for my battery powered set up at weddings. The Maui's sound great and have plenty of headroom on recorded music but can break up a little if they are pushed in live music situations. I find this pretty common with other battery powered speakers I've used. How do you find the Everse 8? Can it handle live performances like a regular pa speaker? BTW "We're just going to hope for the best" - happens to me at weddings here in Australia all the time.
I do love my everse 8. I have not found it to be limited at all. I’ve used it with my band and it’s worked well! Although you would probably want bigger speakers for bands though, that’s just in general… size of the speaker does matter. But I still think this one does work well 🤘
I think it means whether it is possible to sing into a microphone and play guitar with backing tracks. Yes, you can. This is what it is designed for, to make the most of the speaker system. The main question here is how long the battery will run continuously until it runs out. Personally, it bothers me. Because in this mode, when all three channels are working, 100% of the battery charge lasts for 2.5 hours at high volume. I played outside three times, microphone, guitar, backing tracks. Found out.
Great video, thank you. If you were a busker, would you rather have this speaker and add some 3rd party 5.8 GHz Wireless adapters to it, or would you get the Bose S1 Pro (Plus+) ?
Thanks for the video! I'm sold. What do you think about losing the handle when you install the tray? Is it easy to put on and take off as you go? Oh, and you said that the tray does come with the 12V power cord?
It’s easy to remove for sure, I’ll take off the tray and just put it in the case afterwards. It only takes a minute. And yes it includes the cable for it 🤘
Great review!! I do have one question though. When you link two speakers via Bluetooth and you plug a mic in to one of the speakers, does the sound come out of both speakers or only the one that the mic is plugged into?
You can only wirelessly stream music via BT between 2 EV8s wirelessly. However, if you link the 2 EV8s via an XLR, you would hear the mic/guitar, etc on both.
Hey Scott Great videos-Thank you for your time and efforts. Quick question. If had the choice between everse 8 or Mackie showbox which one would you choose ? ty in advance
Thanks! And I tend to use this for any speaking events, especially weddings. And the showbox I tent to use for acoustic or duos since it has the mixer. It depends on what your goals are for the speaker, but both are great speakers 🤘
First off, many you tubers are saying these amps are bad unless you have a pre-amp. But most don’t even mention it??? I like the wireless availability and charging feature in the Bose S1 pro plus. That’s a huge benefit to me. But it’s a bit pricey and noted for not having enough volume. I like the Mackie Showbox for having a designated pedal board input plus recording and a mixer. This seems like they are friendly to electric guitars. I’ve heard the mixer is cheaply made. I like the EV Everse 8 because it seems to have more likes but not sure why others than it’s louder. I wanted to plug my Yamaha THR30 into one of these. But after I bought it found out these busking PAs sound awful if you try that. My dark house option is to by a speaker for the Yamaha THR30 amp to go into it, and get a cheaper PA for vocals.
Hi! The mobile speaker management application Everse 8 - EV QuickSmart version 2.4.5 with new firmware 1.1.7 was released in December 2023. Are there any differences from the previous version?
Okay, then write if it's not difficult. I have installed it, but it is not possible to conduct tests. Nothing seems to have changed except for the volume indicator. It has become larger than in the previous version. I did not enter the settings themselves. I do not know if something has changed or not. Usually, in my opinion, something should be improved in updates.
@@ScottUhlMusic Здравствуйте ! В середине января 2024 вышла новая версия EV QuickSmart Mobile 2.5.0. Очевидно в связи с появлением на рынке нового Everse 12.
Hi Scott, many thanks for the tons of gear reviews - very valuable videos! I DJ and sing on Bose 2x S1 Pro and Bose Sub2 (with frequency low cut to S1 Pros). It plays beautifully, but sometimes there is not enough power. I'm thinking about upgrade to 2x EV Everse 8 - I appreciate the app control and louder sound. Do you recommend this solution? Maybe it will play well at weddings for up to 50 people. For larger events I have the powerful RCF art 422 mkII.
I haven’t really done a volume test between the two, but the Everse series is definitely louder just with me guessing in general. They also have the Everse 12 now 🤘
Hey Scott, I've been binge watching a lot of your videos and have managed to put together what I think will be a very solid system for a new church I am setting up. Thanks so much for all of your knowledge and insights. Would you recommend using this speaker for a small band that uses the Berringer 18, and would you recommend getting 2? Currently I was eying up the Mackie Thrash 212 GO Battery-Powered. A lot of the time its just me on guitar along with a couple singers, but I'm hoping to add more musicians as we grow.
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the channel! Usually with a band it’s better to get a bigger PA system. I use the EV evolve 50s for my band, and singer had the EV ZLK 15s and subwoofers. Those are better for bands. I use this one for speeches for weddings and for acoustic/solo/duo stuff. I’ve used it for my band, but it was a small room. It did work, but we also had a subwoofer and another speaker
@@ScottUhlMusic Thank you for the quick feedback, I'll look into those as some better options! Again, I genuinely appreciate your help and channel. I would have struggled a lot without you.
Can you talk about the "time out" power mode? I heard there is an issue with it going to "Sleep mode" if not using continuously? Also how to disable it
Hi Scott, great review, thanks. I am considering getting one or 2 of these but am wondering about the inputs, and the manual saying to use only XLR or TRS. I would be wanting to run my RC600 looper into this, which has unbalanced outs on TS. Also, in terms of plugging a guitar/bass directly into it, I have only ever used instrument (TS) cables for this. Do you know if you can use TS cables going into the EVERSE 8, despite what the manual says? What do you run into the inputs? Thanks again mate, great vid.
Thanks so much for the quick response@@ScottUhlMusic Looking at this more, would I be correct in thinking I can go LR TS out of the 600 and into channels 1 and 2 of the EVERSE? OR would I be better to go LR TS out summing into a TRS and gong into 1 channel only? Apologies, these are super specific questions. Understand if too finicky to answer.
Have a nice time! May I ask you a question? Everywhere they write and talk about 6 and 12 hours of battery life. Is it when all three channels of the amplifier work simultaneously: microphone plus guitar plus minus or only one? For example, a minus with a bass guitar and drums requires more energy than one connected guitar with a microphone, and even more than just one guitar. What should I pay attention to when using all three elements at the same time? On the volume indicators , so that they would not reach the peaks of the limiter ?
Dude, it’s summer and I know it’s coming hahaha. 3 weddings this weekend. One of them is a good friend, so I’m not worried about that one, but another one is in Wyoming. We will see!
Dan, I do not. I like the ultimate support stands and then these stands by JBL that have a “gas assist” to bring the stands up to where they need to be. Pretty sweet
Great review! I was thinking of going with the LD maui go, but for most of my needs this would work fine. The rain cover looks like it would block the sound when on it. Is that the case (no pun intended)?
Haha no it doesn’t block the sound at all, that’s what’s nice about how the front part comes up and leaves that thin mesh. And then if the rain gets bad, just put it down. It’s amazing
@@ScottUhlMusic That's what I meant the thin mesh lets the sound out but the outside cover does as well? So what's the point? If the outside cover also lets the sound out why have the thin one? Is it that the outside cover does mask some of the sound but lets through enough but not all sound? then it would make more sense to me. If not, just put a garbage bag over the speaker, while it's raining hard. Either way thanks for the quick response!
Another question from me! Sorry to bother you) Do you have the Everse 8 display blinking sometimes when the battery is turned off and in charging mode from an electrical outlet? Chaotically, without a specific time interval. It can dim for a long time, then it can flash for a few seconds and so on for the entire time until it is fully charged to the state of full 100% charge and turns off. Or does the display always glow dimly when charging the battery without such flashing? And is there real, personally verified data on how long it takes to charge from 0 to 100%? My Everse 8 was charged in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
There is something weird with the Bluetooth and a Iphone 11(pro), when I set the sound on my phone at zero while playing a song, the speaker still puts music through. Sometimes it just works as a normal Bluetooth speaker, but most of the time I cant make it silent bij turning down the music on my phone. This is not a problem with android phones and laptops. So I was wondering, how does you phone behave with the Bluetooth?
Another great video, big fan of your wireless microphone reviews, quick question, how do you compare this with Bose S1 Pro? Just bought one, and I am still in the return window, seriously thinking of returning that and getting this one instead, any recommendations?
Have used the Bose. Size is definitely noticeable, smaller and compact. Sounds us really clear but it lacks power. It has good bass. I got rid of my JBL eon one compact and I recommend my pastor to get rid of his Bose S1. He blown away with the sound quality and it's power. Plus the app really helps dial your settings to your needs.
Great video! I have a potential video subject, could you show how you make a living as a musician? What does it take skill wise, and technology wise? Do you perform multiple times a week? Stuff like that, thanks!
Thanks! And that’s a good idea, I will keep it in mind. My short answer is to have many options! I can do solo, duo, trio, or band. I also have RUclips, I used to teach, I do consulting, and I can run and/or rent sound/lighting. Having multiple options has been a huge help!
What was the wireless system that you used, was it that little pak sticking out of the back of the speaker? As opposed to the large wireless on top which I assume was for the wireless mic only? Great demo.
Thank you For this very very helpful video. One question, If I have a microphone in Input 1, and have a MP3 player input 3,4. For ducking ??? Do I put. the Ducking. on Channel. 1 or 3/4. my goal is for the music to. be reduce when someone is giving. a speech. i appreciate your help
Hi Scott, thanks for your videos, they are amazing! I have a question, I hope you can answer me. I already bought the Everse 8 but I want to connect my wireless system, I have the Shure Blx4r but I don't know if it is compatible, do you know if this system works with the Ev? And what cable should I buy to plug in and power the system? I notice that the plug on the Ev is 5.6mm and on the Shure it is 5.5mm, it seems to me
You’ll have to see if it provides enough power. My guess is no, because my Shure system didn’t get enough power from it. You can always plug it into some external power or use this guy right here: ruclips.net/video/-RbykZwyzMY/видео.htmlsi=vSvNtvvlGzKIbCwi
What's your experience with direkt sunlight? I know, if possible we don't put our equipment in direct sunlight, but sometimes there's no other option. Does this speaker turn off, if it gets too hot?
Do you prefer this one over Bose S1 Pro+ and why? I am mostly interested in terms of sound. I plan to replace my Turbosound IP1000 v2 with either one of those. Thanks Scott!
If you are only interested in sound, my choice is the Electro Voice because they make my favorite speakers. A buddy of mine will basically only get stuff that is Bose. Tone is subjective, and I would look to see which one has the features you want. But EV wins for me with tone every time… but both sound great
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks a lot for the answer.. I am aware that these speakers can not sound as loud as column speakers, but I would get one that sounds as loud as possible... Bose S1 Pro+ wins for me because of 20º wider dispersion, but my understanding is that EV is much louder and handles bass much better. Isn't it?
Thinking of purchasing this speakers does the Shure BLX288/PG58 Dual Channel Wireless Handheld Microphone System work with the Dc power output? Thanks in advance
Hello. How long does the battery actually last? and not according to the manufacturer's advertisements for 6 and 12 o'clock. Have you checked? There is a strong suspicion that the 86.4 Wh power consumed by the Everse 8 battery is not enough for as many hours as it is written in the instructions.
@@ScottUhlMusic What are the audio input volume and overall MAN volume settings? up to a maximum of 0? was there a restriction indicator at the same time?
Hi Scott, your channel is great! I'm thinking about getting a couple of these Everse 8, but after some research about the stereo setup capabilities I'm having some trouble understanding, or maybe I found a bug in the DSP. I know you can only share the bluetooth signal when linking the speakers wirelessly, not the inputs, so I'm thinking about using the Mix Out with only the R signal and panning the inputs in the mixer mode (since in the Mix Out it gives you the option to send L+R, just L or just R), BUT in all the videos I've watched, including this one, the input menu doesn't show the PAN option. Neither in the speakers DSP nor in the app, so how are we supposed to use the Mix Out with L or R only if there's no option to pan the inputs? The manual says there is a PAN menu between the FX and Ducker, but it doesn't appear in any review video. Hope you can help!
Thank you! You would control the L/R from your mixer. So my Behringer mixer sends a stereo out, so I would send the L output (or output 7) to the L speaker and the R output (or output 8) to my R speaker.
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks for replying! Yes, I know I can do that with an external mixer, but I'm talking about the Mixer mode in the Everse DSP. In your video, at 7:33 you show the Input 1 menu and you can see the FX and then the Ducker, when the manual says there should be a PAN option too. This is supposed to mean that the actual speaker you're working with is one stereo channel (of your "main out" in the internal mixer) and the Mix Out could be use as the other channel. That's why it gives you the option to send L or R or L+R. You actually showed the manual in the part of the Ducker. If you look at it again, the PAN menu section is right abover the Ducker one (I downloaded the manual 😅). I just wanna know if the PAN option is available somewhere else or if it's completely missing? If that's the case then Electrovoice needs to update the DSP.
@@ScottUhlMusic hey, Scott, just to let you know that I found the answer to what I was looking for. Apparently the PAN option only appears if the Mix Out is set to L or R, not L+R (which makes sense). It's just that nobody has mentioned that in reviews. Anyway, I'll get a pair and I'm getting more ideas with your content. Thanks!
Hi Scott I was wondering if you could answer something for me. Can you use a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter on an instrument cable and plug it into the 3/4 stereo input? The goal is this: Acoustic duo with vocals on inputs 1 and 2. Acoustic-electric guitar (with pre-amp no Hi-z needed) on input 3. If you haven't tried this, would you be willing to see if your acoustic-electric would work (with a 1/4" to 3.5mm reducer) on input 3/4. If it does, can you see if bluetooth also works as well at the same time? Thanks in advance I appreciate it!
Bluetooth won’t work because of latency for live audio, but going into a line input will sound okay, but not “recommended” but that’s up to you. I go over that in this video: ruclips.net/video/BgPtZ0gepfc/видео.htmlsi=AjqnR5VtSu0Ngujx
@@ScottUhlMusichey man thanks a million for the quick response! Yes I just watched the other video. Yes I just wanted to know if putting a preamp equipped guitar into input 3/4 would work. The goal would be to use the everse 8 for small gigs without having to bring an outboard mixer. As long as that input would work for guitar, I would control the tone and most of the volume with my preamp on the guitar. The Bluetooth would not be used for live backing tracks or anything we don't use those, it would be used for break music without having to unplug the input from 3/4 that's why I was asking that part - again thanks for the quick response. Hope I explained my thoughts better on why I was wondering about this and if you have anything else to add feel free. Appreciate it take care 👍
Hi! Happy New Year! I have a question of the century! From the category of "I want to know everything"))) Judging by the technical data, the JBL Eon One Compact battery (amplifier power 150 W, maximum volume level 112 dB) has a capacity of 6100 mAh × 14.8 volts = 90.28 wh = 12 at medium volume and 4 hours of operation at maximum volume compared to Everse 8 (amplifier power 400 W (volume maximum level 121 dB) - capacity 6000 mAh × 14.4 volts = 86.4 Wh = 12 and 6 hours of operation. Why does the Everse 8 have the same duration of operation at medium volume and a longer maximum operating time with 2.6 times more amplifier power and less battery charge??? According to the technical specifications comparing the power of amplifiers and batteries, the duration of operation of the Everse 8 should be less. Or am I wrong, mathematics and physics don't work here. Then how is this possible?
That’s above my pay grade haha. I just know that it survived more than a 4 hour set with the volume very loud and it still had a lot more to go. I haven’t had issues with battery life with this system
Great review, Scott. Im considering getting one of these. I have a question. Can you please tell me if this speaker will allow me to connect 2 guitars and a mic at the same time, or 2 mics and a guitar at the same time? Thanks in advance.
Awesome review thanks! Contemplating this vs Bose S1..assuming both are available in my country. Will just use mainly for karaoke and guitar/with vocals. Looks power packed features. I’m just afraid with that digital dial, how durable are those? Does it have like a dial rotation/press life? Compared with old fashioned knobs that lasts for many years. Thankfully there’s an App! So for those who own this- am I correct to assume that 90% of controls is done via app? Bec I don’t trust that one knob for all 😂
Does the rain cover still fit with the accessory tray and an uhf receiver sitting on top? Just wondering how I would still do a wireless mic while using the rain cover
I have just bought this and tried to connect two sets of decks through the trs inputs but the sound is really bad, like it's possibly inly getting the sound from one channel? Is this something I should be able to do or do I need some different sort of cable? Using phono to trs cables. Thanks
That could be many things, I honestly don’t know. Somewhere you have set the gain staging or input or output wrong. You’ll have to problem solve to see where that is happening
Hey Scott! Great review, as usual. As a fellow Phenyx Pro mic user, I'm curious about your experience using the PTU-1U you show in the video powered by the DC out port on the Everse 8. I looked at the back of my PTU-1U and it's labeled as 800mA vs the 500mA output on the Everse 8. Beyond powering on, does it work normally?
I used it at a wedding over the weekend and it was flawless. Left it on for over an hour at soundcheck just to make sure. It worked great. I had a portable power supply ready just in case. I’m looking into getting the EV mic for it though in the future
@@ScottUhlMusic Great news! I just sold my Bose S1 Pro to upgrade to this speaker for this capability. I'll be curious on your thoughts about the EV mic. Looking forward to that review in the future.
I have one more question. A fellow musician told me, that this speaker needs updates regularly and sometimes it happened right before the gig and he could not use the speaker for up to an hour. I don’t use the mobile app, so there won’t be any updates, right?
That’s the one thing I really don’t like about it… you have to update the firmware to use the app. I’m working on a review on the 12. It does drive me nuts
@@ScottUhlMusic So I called the EV support and they told me, that there are no updates when not used with the app. There was only important one update, that had to be done, when using the app, other updates are always optional and can also be done later. I will keep on using it without the app. Maybe I will make an update once a year or so.
I don’t believe that works with more than just Bluetooth audio. Live audio, I believe does not work but Bluetooth audio does. I could be wrong to be fair
@ScottUhlMusic no, i mean if you plug in a mic to speaker 1, you WILL hear that mic on the second paired speaker correct? Watched another video where the guy is using 2 Receivers to do this. Seems totally wrong.
I am a DJ and I bought an EV Everse 8 and you should know that it is a powerful speaker and the sound quality is spectacular. I recommend it 100%.
Agreed! Thanks for commenting 🤘

Best demonstration of the EV 8 so far. Thanks a lot. I am planning to get this next month.
Thanks! It’s definitely worth it!
Thanks Scott - great video as always. I’ve been looking to go battery-powered, and this was the right nudge. Used your link, looking forward to it!
Awesome! Thanks Michael, I appreciate it 🤘 Enjoy your new speaker. This thing is killer!
🤯 Thanks for sharing that 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic You are very welcome! Keep up the good work!
The ‘wedding/rain” conversation got me 👌🏼
I keep stumbling on your reviews and you've quickly become a trusted voice.
Thanks Alan! And yeah EV really did their homework with this one. So brilliant 🤘🤘
You can buy any optional 3.5mm Bluetooth Adapter and it'll make your Cube Bluetooth.
It could be done for a tenner.
@@bennyhill3505 Great tip, thanks!
you can get a Hosa blutooth puck to fix that for around $30.
There are cheap Bluetooth adapters out there. Just plug it into the aux input of your Roland and connect to your phone.
Incredible review, Scott. Those are Sweet upgrades. I’m still digging One of the in ear monitor systems you recommended. I used affiliate links of course. Now a friend is ready to buy as well. Thanks again
Thanks! I really appreciate that 🤘🤘
I own two of these. I can't be happier. You're not lying when you say it's the best.
It truly is awesome!
Glad to hear you love the everse 8 as much as I do 🤘🤘Thanks for commenting!
Wow !!! Man do I feel like a dinosaur… I’m still using my very heavy old amp with my mixer board. Great video on this powered speaker. 500 w And light weight.. thats a wow factor too. Thank you doing a review….. and yes, had that rain conversation a few times and someone always has 4 x4 tarp to cover over all the equipment and band.. lol 😂😂😂
Haha man, I have 3 tarps with me now. It happens SO much!
Heavy amp??? Dinosaur is an understatement
Lol! That’s funny!
Hi! I want to ask you something. The maximum sound pressure of the Everse 8 SPL is 121 dB when all three volume controls are set to maximum? From the main speaker page + from the Bluetooth audio channel + The main volume? I was so amazed listening to metallica on a street volume test that I almost fell over from the sound wave, as if a hurricane, tornado and tsunami swept by at the same time
Killer busking setup
100% would be amazing for busking!
Best intro all time 4 a speaker video
Replay!!! Thorough as you can be!!! Well done Scott! I held off in buying any more battery powered speakers because I didn’t want them to just around while not being used if the power at and event goes out. Out of the two options, I was advised to go with this one the utmost versatility in what I can use it for.
Wow. That's an amazing system.
I know right!? 🤯🤯
Hey Scott thanks for your review.
9 out of 10 times, they hope for the best.😅 I am a mobile dj and do alot of weddings, cocktails, and ceremonies on farms.
Haha I’m glad it’s not just me lol!
Oh interesting, good to know! I haven’t updated yet either but I probably won’t for a little bit. But yeah this thing is truly incredible!!
Awesome video! Thank you for the detailed run through of the speaker. Really helps with deciding on which speaker to buy!
Just got one a couple weeks ago, and it’s great! Light weight, and has been plenty loud so far! Only thing I wish I could do, is use different effects on each channel. Would love to apply some delay to the guitar channel only.
I still absolutely love this speaker… and just got the 12s yesterday and used them tonight. Videos coming soon-ish
Oh nice!! That’s awesome!
Cheers!!
Nice! Glad to hear it’s been working well 🤘🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic Yes, when I buy products, I look at all the different ways I can use as my buying motive and value to be received.
Another great review. These are super cool, I may have to replace my CP8s. I will definitely use your links if I do.
Thanks Rick! And yeah, this thing blew me away how well designed it is 🤘
I wouldn’t, CP8 is twice as loud!
@@WWeiss-nv5vz I ended up going with a pair of evolve 30Ms, couldn't be happier!
Better than Bose s1 pro in many ways Scott thanks so much you do amazing reviews as well 👏👏👏
Thanks! 🤘🤘
As a person who used to own the Bose S1 Pro, I can tell you the Everse 8 blows the Bose away. The comparison is night and day.
@@BluesCat1980 ~ The e verse 8 smokes my former s1 pro. Vocals sound awesome!
Hey man, great review. Only thing i havent been able to figure out is if you have access to any of the handles on the speaker to carry it while in the protective cover. Did they add a zipper or opening for this?
No it doesn’t, and that wouldn’t allow as much protection if they did it that way. But the case is still very nice 👍
Just picked this up. EXCELLENT. The bag is also really well thought out.
I know! It’s sooooo good 🤘
I'm trying the Peavey solo. I like the Everse but it's too pricy. I have some old EV the 100+ and EV 300. I like how they sound too.
I've had this one for about 8 months and have just done the firmware upgrade.. WOW!!
The conversation with wedding couple and/or the wedding planner goes just like that. You only forgot to mention the support you get by food people who stand on the musicians side.. they’ll be moving every damn piece in as well
It’s true, it blows my mind how people just want to “wish” away how water and electricity work
Nice presentation and information.
Glad you like the Everse as much as I do! I don’t really have an answer for your setup unless you go into the mixer as well 👍
Very interesting. If I understand correctly I can't have a different mix between the speaker and the XLR Out (named "mix out"). Isn't it?
It should be useful to me but we can't have everything.
That’s correct, it will send an output of the speaker out via xlr, but it’s not a dry pass through. Their EV 50 have a direct out or mix out option 👍
But I still think this one does work well 🤘
These are the real deal love ev!
💯
Can we blue tooth and all other connection at the same time .
What do you mean “all other connections?”
@@ScottUhlMusic He means, can you use input 1, input 2, input 3+4 via mini jack stereo in… AND… bluetooth at the same time?
Both are great! For busking only, probably the Bose, but I truly love the versatility of the Everse 8
And yes it includes the cable for it 🤘
Dude! The “wedding conversation”! 😂 How. Many. Times?
😂😂 no kidding! It’s way more than it should be!
Great video, very well explained! Thanks!
Great review!! I do have one question though. When you link two speakers via Bluetooth and you plug a mic in to one of the speakers, does the sound come out of both speakers or only the one that the mic is plugged into?
That I don’t know, because I only have the one. That’s a good question though!
@@ScottUhlMusic thanx Scott
Bro, thanks for your review. I’m getting 3.
Awesome!! Glad to help, it’s such a a great speaker!
Hi! The mobile speaker management application Everse 8 - EV QuickSmart version 2.4.5 with new firmware 1.1.7 was released in December 2023. Are there any differences from the previous version?
I’ll have to try it out and see. I haven’t had to use mine since then
Okay, then write if it's not difficult. I have installed it, but it is not possible to conduct tests. Nothing seems to have changed except for the volume indicator. It has become larger than in the previous version. I did not enter the settings themselves. I do not know if something has changed or not. Usually, in my opinion, something should be improved in updates.

They also have the Everse 12 now 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic Thank you. I think it's worth changing from S1 Pro to Everse 8. That's what I'll do.
@@ScottUhlMusic I now have 2xEverse 8 and I am very happy with this change. 2XEverse 8 and Bose Sub2 I love it.
Does the fx settings on the amplifier itself meant echo settings? I used my guitar on one of the input, the default fx is at -80db
Fantastic video man! Really appreciate it
Glad you liked it!
Great video and very helpful. Is there a cable to go from the 12v output to charge a 9v guitar pedal?
Thanks! And no, you wouldn’t want to do that
Thanks for the reply Scott. How about a usb 5v to a 9v cable?
Can you talk about the "time out" power mode? I heard there is an issue with it going to "Sleep mode" if not using continuously? Also how to disable it
I’m pretty sure you can disable that. But if not, my understanding is it turns on when it gets signal
Also Denon Audio Commander one of the best all-in-one battery set-ups)
Looks good, just bought a JBL eon one compact, did I make the wrong choice?
If you like it, and it does what you need it to do, that’s what matters 👍
Hi Scott, great review, thanks. I am considering getting one or 2 of these but am wondering about the inputs, and the manual saying to use only XLR or TRS. I would be wanting to run my RC600 looper into this, which has unbalanced outs on TS. Also, in terms of plugging a guitar/bass directly into it, I have only ever used instrument (TS) cables for this. Do you know if you can use TS cables going into the EVERSE 8, despite what the manual says? What do you run into the inputs? Thanks again mate, great vid.
You would be fine running your RC600 and TS cables into it 👍
Thanks so much for the quick response@@ScottUhlMusic Looking at this more, would I be correct in thinking I can go LR TS out of the 600 and into channels 1 and 2 of the EVERSE? OR would I be better to go LR TS out summing into a TRS and gong into 1 channel only? Apologies, these are super specific questions. Understand if too finicky to answer.
@@samb2538 You can do either one for sure. Just trust your ears on what sounds better 👍
Thanks @@ScottUhlMusic, appreciate your time and advice mate.
Number of things plugged in doesn’t really matter. It’s how loud the speaker is and if you are using the wireless output as well
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks
App: 99% rain
Client: So there's a chance it's gonna be dry, right?
🤦🏼♂
Lol yup!!
Is there any third part app ( like mix station) that allows for full control of the compressor parameters or PEQ on each channel?
You can control the speaker with the EV QuickSmart APP. It works great 👍
Nice review, thanks!
I loved the rain conversation. LOL. Algorithm gods love rain.
Dude, it’s summer and I know it’s coming hahaha. 3 weddings this weekend. One of them is a good friend, so I’m not worried about that one, but another one is in Wyoming. We will see!
Hey Scott! Do you have a video on speaker stands? Thanks!
Great review! Just One question, doest it power guitar pedals with the right USB adapter? Thanks
Thanks! And I don’t believe so
Another question from me!
Excellent review!
Thanks!
Oh weird… no I haven’t noticed that. Perhaps a firmware update will fix it?
Another great video, big fan of your wireless microphone reviews, quick question, how do you compare this with Bose S1 Pro? Just bought one, and I am still in the return window, seriously thinking of returning that and getting this one instead, any recommendations?
Thanks! And I haven’t used the Bose so I’m not sure. But I definitely am a big fan of EV and always have been
Have used the Bose.
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks Scott! Honestly you’ve inspired me with all the various ways you can perform a song. Cant wait for the next video!
Scott, as a Solo Live Looping musician myself could I get by with a pair of these and a Sub for weddings and small club/venues?
It depends on the size for sure, but I think so yes 👍 around 100 people I think it would be good
What was the wireless system that you used, was it that little pak sticking out of the back of the speaker? As opposed to the large wireless on top which I assume was for the wireless mic only? Great demo.
Yup, that’s my sennheiser system for portable PA speakers. It’s this one here: ruclips.net/video/VlFGn6AxgqA/видео.html
Thank you For this very very helpful video. One question, If I have a microphone in Input 1, and have a MP3 player input 3,4. For ducking ??? Do I put. the Ducking. on Channel. 1 or 3/4. my goal is for the music to. be reduce when someone is giving. a speech. i appreciate your help
I haven’t used the ducking personally, and I usually control it from my phone running the app. But you’ll be able to tell when you use it 👍
Can you save presets from the app or do you have to go back to the speaker to STORE?
Good question… I believe just on the speaker? But I could be wrong
both
Hi Scott, thanks for your videos, they are amazing!
Wow, that's a brilliant idea, I would never have thought of that, thank you very much 🙏, I'll check that out.
Hi! Do you know if you can have the Bluetooth playing music while something is also plugged into the aux port in track 3?
I believe it’s one or the other, but I haven’t actually tried that, so I’m not sure
What's your experience with direkt sunlight? I know, if possible we don't put our equipment in direct sunlight, but sometimes there's no other option. Does this speaker turn off, if it gets too hot?
I’ve had it out in the heat without problems
You have to check the power requirements 👍
It works, but you need to have different sized plugs on both sides. (I dont remember exatly 2,1mm and 2,5mm but check it!!!!
Hello. How long does the battery actually last? and not according to the manufacturer's advertisements for 6 and 12 o'clock. Have you checked? There is a strong suspicion that the 86.4 Wh power consumed by the Everse 8 battery is not enough for as many hours as it is written in the instructions.
Man, I’ve never run out of power with this thing. Even playing a 4 hour set with my band on full blast. Battery life is great!
@@ScottUhlMusic What are the audio input volume and overall MAN volume settings? up to a maximum of 0? was there a restriction indicator at the same time?
@@ScottUhlMusic Have you checked the full charge time from 0 to 100%? How much does it charge? Thanks for the answers!
How do I get some gain on guitar? Reverb and Chorus is lame without crunch.
I dunno if it has distortion, and electric would sound awful without amp/cab emulation. I honestly don’t know any speaker that does that
Parabéns pelo vídeo ! Muito bom, muito explicativo
No output for my wireless in-ear monitors. Usually I use the 1/4 Line Out for that
You have an xlr line out of the speaker
You have 3 inputs, 2 of them are xlr or 1/4” and one is 3.5mm TRS. If you can get them to go into those inputs then yup 👍
I think you'd need a mixer unless you can figure out how to get a guitar into a 3.5mm jack.
Scott - could I run my HX Stomp off of the power out on this?
No, the stomp needs 9v and more amps. But I run mine off of a power supply using this device here: ruclips.net/video/-RbykZwyzMY/видео.html
Another brilliant video. Thanks Scott..😎
Thank you 🙏
And another question: Is it ok to regularly use this speaker with the power cable or does this worsen the battery?
That will not effect the battery 👍
Got the Bose s1 pro 2 days ago and was quite disappointed. Had to exchange it for the EV Everse 8 after this review
Nice! I’m not familiar with the Bose, but I love this Everse 8 🤘🤘
Bec I don’t trust that one knob for all 😂
I’ve used multiple EV stuff over the years and my singer does too. Never had a problem with the dial! Not once 🤘
Does the rain cover still fit with the accessory tray and an uhf receiver sitting on top? Just wondering how I would still do a wireless mic while using the rain cover
No, it doesn’t. I have a tarp if I use it in that situation, and then I’ll put the cover on it for playing music from it
I have just bought this and tried to connect two sets of decks through the trs inputs but the sound is really bad, like it's possibly inly getting the sound from one channel?
Does this speaker still sound okay with the rain cover completely covering the front grille?
Not really, it will sound muffled. You want that black mesh while playing music
Can you mic in and use two in stereo without tethering them or is that for Bluetooth music only?
My understanding is you can pair two of them without tethering them, which is pretty killer!
No you cant. Bluetooth only..
Maybe I will make an update once a year or so.
you can just hook a mic and guitar and Bluetooth to one and all the mix will go to the second speaker when paired right?
I don’t believe that works with more than just Bluetooth audio. Live audio, I believe does not work but Bluetooth audio does. I could be wrong to be fair
@ScottUhlMusic no, i mean if you plug in a mic to speaker 1, you WILL hear that mic on the second paired speaker correct? Watched another video where the guy is using 2 Receivers to do this. Seems totally wrong.
by cable through the Mix Out connector, everything will be on both. Only audio is transmitted via Bluetooth to the second one. I think so.
What kind of cable is a 12V out that powers the wireless mics?
I’m actually not sure what it’s called… I need to find out so I can order a second one haha
@@ScottUhlMusichave you found this out yet, obviously the everse takes 2.5mm but what size is the receiver end?!?
Is Everse 8 good as a keyboard amp?
Hello, have you tried SHURE SLXD, does it work on EV everse 8, since it is 15v?
I mentioned in the video specifically I tried with the slxd and it didn’t work. Phenyx pro PTU 1U worked great though
