very cool swap idea. i remember watching a very old grainy video comparing an alpina e46, stock m3 e46 and a hartge h50 e46 which was essentially e39 M5 driveline swapped and the s62 def gave that car a ton of character lol.
God, i wish they had an Audi tutorial podcast like this that so easily and neatly explains and lays out the processes as you do brother. Thanks so much for your good work....
I thought to myself I'm not gonna watch this. As I'm more interested in the s65 and e36 content instead. But I'm so glad I clicked on the video. So informative, I was hooked. I really liked how descriptive you were in the process. Perfect video in my opinion. Can't wait for the next one!
Exactly what i wanted to see. I hope you cover all the necessary step for this conversion, especially wiring, cluster, key programing and such. I am super stoked to see it !
Loving the content, Tyler!🤙 Saw you carefully pulling off the caps initially then the video speeds up and my heart dropped when one of the bolts fell into the timing cover area! 😱😅
bro what is u doing???? this is sick!!!!!!!!! i hope u dont run into heavy complications..... this is going to be sweet!!!! have u seen anybody do this before??? the power tho!!!!!!!!!
Its cool you can use the m5 driveshaft with e46 m3 trans and vice versa. Im swapping a e46 420g in my turbo s52 e39it. Used a m5 driveshaft, and m5 diff/axels. ( A.k.a. the 420g is mounted in the same location weather its a 6 cylinder or a v8. ) You should be able to change the 420 output flange to a e46 m3 one then use the e46 m3 drive shaft and rear assembly. If you need a e46 output flange for you trans I would trade you for your m5 output ( guibo to trans piece) the m5 driveshaft uses the bigger guibo.
@drewdavis239 Yes, that's been a part of my plan. We can trade output shafts, sure. M5 uses 105mm bolt spacing while M3 uses 96mm bolt spacing. Since we're working on opposing chassis, what a great commodity.
I know very about the BMW engine range but I watched this as I like stripping engines down.😀👍 So, what is the issue with excessive wear on the rod bearings in this unit?
@phils2180 The S62 is less prone to it when compared to other S series engines, yet some wear more quickly than others as they are hand built engines with varying tolerances.
Never buy a spotless aged BMW engine, my friend! The dirtier, the better. Usually means people kept oil in it. Grimy oil messes are a good sign, typically 😁
So the Z8 Smit Oletha guys got smart and decided the boat anchor V8 is not the desired engine anyone wants, so now it has a lighter E46 that everyone wants. So you know my next question, why add dead weight that hurts handling, instead of building up the six internals. Seams really really counterintuitive.
@@tropicthndr Instead of attempting to slander my projects, you could start a YT channel of your own and show the world your idealization of what the perfect E46 is.
This engine is way better than any V8 I had ever seen
The engineering in this masterpiece was ahead of its time
Good choice 👍🏻
@ibrahimmoussa3711 They truly are something special. Thank You for watching, see you in the next one

Great video. I hope the whole swap is documented just as well!

Getting ready to do rod bearings in my S54 (98k) Using the WPC treated rod bearings as well.
I'm converting my ZHP to a complete M3 and somehow I'm more excited about seeing this completed. Awesomeness!
@UnapologeticIslam S54 is an amazing platform as well my friend. This is all just personal preference of what I want my car to become!
Love the level of detail you show/describe. New sub here!
This an interesting and creative engine swap! Can’t wait to see it rip one day !
this is awesome 😁 cant wait to see more progress
This is lit af I thought it wasn't gonna be until September to start seeing this journey you rock
F! Im ready for this build!!! So excited! And look forward to doing something like this to my e46 wagon! ❤❤

Lol, thankfully I plan to do the timing chain guides anyway. Either way I would've gotten that little rascal!
Man that's a beautifully desing engine
Thanks so much for this video, learnt a ton !!!!
I'd do main and rod bearings plus change the oil to Lubrication Engineers full synthetic oil. Great stuff, and solves problems.
Great content. Keep this up.
Great video, looking forward to following this. Earned a sub.
Good stuff. Thing is gonna be amazing.
Great content dude! 🤝

Very cool video. I would have personally cleaned outside of the engine as much as possible before taking it apart.
Love this content 👍🔥👍🔥
it appears to me that you're doing a good swap
Strong man😉
@@hellrotgarage Liftin that S62/420G got me seein stars 🥴✨️
Hartge did it in early 2000‘s :)
Hartge is a famous german engine swap „shop“…
its more an engine swap factory for BMWs

Where would one find a engine and gearbox combo like that😮😮
Lovin this shit keep it going!

that engine was really grimy
nice detailed teardown

@@OLearysBMW agreed. I'm about to pick up a b28 for my blown e46. It too looks disgusting :)
Does anyone know if the ZF6HP would bolt up to the S62???
If at all possible could you turbo it
