    I've had a few people ask why N55 and not B58. I should have probably talked about it in the video, but basically the N55 wiring is plug and play. Yes there will be lots of coding, ISN and VIN swaps that need to happen to make it work, but for the most part it's pretty similar.
    The B58 is completely different and the harness isn't plug and play anymore. Just lookup a picture of a B58 DME and you'll see it's not at all the same. I'm sure it could be done, but it would be a lot more work. To do it the same way I'm going to be doing in this series, you would need an LCI F31 with the B48. Maybe that can be the next project! Let me know what you guys think.

    Let me know if you need the dme ISN updated and operating reset to factory code it with full vin match as well. Also you are going to want to change the type code in the fem and code accordingly. I would probably recommend doing a EU F31 335i

    I've looked into swapping my 428xi gran coupe with 435/335 powertrain. My 428i is a very clean, low mileage (65k km), well spec-ed, and rust free (impressive for a quebec car that is 10 years old), so it could be worthwhile to have the clean chassis of my current vehicle with the nicer power train of the N55 variant.
    However, after reverse looking parts I realized you also have to transfer over the transmission, drive shaft, CV Shaft, front shock etc.. to maintain the original handling and performance of the 435/335. Essentially the only things that are identical on both platforms is the chassis, interior, rear suspension, and the front differential and suspension minus the front shocks.
    Being a mechanic specialized in diagnostics by trade, it would be doable, but it was just too much work between my regular job and my mobile diagnostician business.
    All of this to say I'm very much looking forward to this project! And if you need help I'm also located in Quebec, and I have specialized diagnostics tools which could come handy.
    I have been following you for a bit and I really like your content, keep up the good work!

      It depends on the configuration because there are so many. Since this car is an M Sport, the driveshaft, differential, cv axles and all kinds of other parts are actually the same. I will go into it in some of the later videos but there’s obviously a lot of research to do to get everything right. Glad you like the videos, thanks for your support!

    I appreciate both your fervor to do something most wouldn't, by moving up an engine type in a newer chassis instead of buying a better car to start with, as well as the dedication to keep it relatively simple. My F30 335i N55 blew up from low speed detonation, in eco mode. Seriously. After 3 years of relatively moderate abuse. Lol I purchased an M2 N55, closed the deck, WPC treated the new forged internal upgrades, and valvetrain, cerakoted the pistons and other areas, then moved forward with going full tilt on the bolt ons. Garrett turbo, upgraded manifolds. Complete fuel system and di injection upgrade. Cooling and sump upgrades, there's little left stock at this point. Got to about 90% complete, test drove the car 2 miles, brought it back and it hasn't started since. I had fuel faults that all pointed to the high pressure fuel pump. I've swapped 4 different pumps, 2 of which are brand new, and still, won't start. It will crank and crank. But I get nothing. I now have to back track to find what I did, (if anything) recheck timing, and just try to find an invisible gremlin, when I'm so far over budget it's not even funny.
    I say all this because, in hindsight I wish I had just started off, stock after the build. Broken the engine in that way, then slowly added my upgraded mods one by one. I pushed, when I initially didn't have it in mind to take it as far as I have. I do know however, that this will be one of the single baddest N55 builds on the planet when I'm at 100%.
    Looking forward to your follow up videos bro.

    It's very nice seeing your face! As far as I'm concerned you're on the same level as Sreten as fat as competence goes, and you have a great personality as well. I look forward to seeing a new video from this channel as much as from M539 Restorations! I hope your channel grows up as the quality of the videos is amazing and you deserve way more subscribers.
    I'm not 100% sure about RUclips rules, but you might consider bleeping out language that can be considered offensive in the future. I think it will prevent your videos from being recommended or make it harder to draw advertisers, etc. I don't personally mind as I think it's quite funny, but there is a reason why all of the big channels do it.

    Hello Dr, just wondering, if you are supposed to push down the rod when getting the other bearing out, did you have any issues or nervous moments when doing so on the first cylinder? Obviously the chain is still connected and in place, so it should rotate all in time and with no problems, but did that work out fine? Just curious because I plan on building an N55/S55 application at one point.

    • @bimmer.doctor
      @bimmer.doctor  Месяц назад +1

    Not to nit pick, but theoretically the diverter valve is more highly stressed on an n55 than on an n63. The amount of displacement serviced is 3 liters vs 2.2 on the n63. Both run the same boost pressure stock.

    • @bimmer.doctor
      @bimmer.doctor  Месяц назад +1

      Glad you like the video! Watch the segment on the turbo starting at 29:43
      With the stock fuel pump, I won't get all the benefits of the Pure500, but it will still be a better turbo than stock. The problem with a fuel pump upgrade is that by the time you get there, you either need to run 93 octane (which isn't available everywhere), or worse, run an ethanol blend. Both of those I don't really care for because I want this to be a daily driver that I can take anywhere, without thinking of how/where I'm going to gas up.
