2014 BMW 328d Wagon! N47 Glow Plugs, EPS & More
A full spec 2014 328d wagon, for only 10,000 Canadian dollars?! What's the catch? Well, this one has a whopping 314,000km on the clock, but it's a one owner, dealer serviced car. After less than 2 days of driving, I lost all power steering and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree...
Today I'm going to show you how to diagnose the issue, as well as do a bit of maintenance on the car to bring it up to speed. Glow plugs, fuel filter, oil change & more.

N20 to N55 Swapped F31 - Project 335i Wagon Part 2
Просмотров 12 тыс.Месяц назад
Can you swap an N55 into an N20 powered car? That's the question we're going to answer in Project 335i Wagon. More often than not, a swap is either too complicated or too expensive, but there are some cases where it might make sense, like in this 2015 F31 328i Wagon. They never sold the N55 335i variant of the wagon in North America, so our only option is to swap it in ourselves. In Part 2, we ...

Project 750Li Part 2: Engine Disassembly
Sir! You make this look far too easy! I am replacing valve stem seals on my 650I, and it has been an absolute nightmare! Things breaking left and right due to being brittle! Kudos I love the videos I just wish it was this easy and flawless for me!
hell of a truck
Plenty of n47's with 300k miles on the roads here in uk
28:42 the wiring harness loom behind the fuel filter looks damaged? Maybe something to touch up.
Yep, ended up retouching this with the same tesa tape I used for the EPS harness
What if the chain is loose and I can wiggle the chain. Is that bad??
Looks good wondering what type of water damage you did though if any ....
Definitely not the safest way to wash an engine bay, but didn’t do any damage at all. If you want to be extra safe, a good tip is to disconnect the battery before you wash and then let the car dry for a few hours before plugging it back in.
If it's under the hood it can handle water. Where People get in trouble is pressure washing with way too high pressure and way over doing it focusing the spray at stuff too long forcing water into places. The older the car the more ya wanna check the seals of under hood electronics also
There are dedicated dressings that you can dilute specifically for engine. I’d give CarPro Perl a try at a 1:1-1:3 ratio a try. You might find the sheen to be a bit more accurate to a new finish
Did the reman long block come with new fuel injectors?
This is amazing! Thank you so much for recording all this work and then editing it! Truly incredible. So invaluable!
Hey man love the vids, just had a question about a tool you used, I dmed on instagram
do you have any recommendation where to buy chra
Personally. I love the n63. I used to be a helicopter mechanic so working on engines and etc is not scary to me. I saved my buddy quite literally $25,000 because he just needed to buy the parts and me a 12 pack of beer. One time I took his engine apart piece by piece and put it back together.
Am I supposed to replace the head bolt washers? They did not come with the new head bolts.
So what years is this problem common on?
Hi, 9:38, are you sure it's 5nm 20nm 90deg 90 deg ? as per alldata it's 20nm 90deg. let me know, Thx
What symptoms did the transmission cause? And what did you have to fix?
"Lifetime" fluids at best again :)
Do you sell or can i buy a rebuilt turbo from you with exchange? I have the the waist gate rattle and my check engine light is begiinning to come on. I live in Halifax
Hi there, I don't sell units but I can rebuild yours. Email me at info@bimmerdoctor.com
These videos are so good. Your entire channel is...What an information gold mine for the N20! ❤
Hey bimmer doctor, it don’t matter the position of the cam phasers if they go up or like did you install it on your video because i don’t find any specific position for them, thanks.
Once again, great video. Also are you a certified bmw technician? Your knowledge of the platform is phenomenal
Thank you, glad you are enjoying the content! No, I'm not a BMW certified tech, never went to mechanic school or anything like that. This is just a hobby that's gotten a bit out of control these last few years...
Great content, very informative
I want to thank you for your videos, I have been working on my 750i Xdrive for quite some time. I bought a BMW reman engine and completed its first start today. Still have lots of stuff to mount, but it is a great relief to get it running. Made sure to enter injector compensation values before I started it 😊
Amazing work! I know you've been watching the channel for a while and I'm glad to see you managed to tackle it yourself. It's a huge job so congratulations! When its done you should post a short video showing it off
@@bimmer.doctormaking more progress, I don’t think I would be this far without your video series. Currently re-installing front suspension parts, front shielding, and muffler system. Will need to go back for more toque values.
Now that I've seen what it takes to do this particular engine, you are a better man than me. Hats off to owners and techs of modern German cars. The engineers of the N63 woke up and chose violence when they put this unit together.
Lolol
It's a shame that BMW forgot their roots when it comes to engines. Customers having to suffer through very expensive and complex repairs. Run Schaeffers full synthetic oil, alternatively use Lubrication Engineers full synthetics.
Well it has been awhile, but I am just about ready to do oil prime of my reman engine, but can’t proceed as I have yet to identify the fuel pump relay. I have asked in to FB groups with no answer. Is this relay located on the center of the fuse panel in the trunk on passenger side. Had one suggestion to run it through Ista, but didn’t see the menu selection. Car is a 2012 750i Xdrive. Currently had filled coolant, oil, and power steering fluid, also change trans fluid and filter.
8:40 lower oil pan bolts, really 27Nm or 10Nm?
Ive completed a E91 N54 single turbo 6mt xdrive swap. Now looking for a F31 B58 6mt xdrive swap. It's wayyyyyyy more expensive, on my excel sheet I'm around 50k$ cad now. My E91 costed me 17k$ with the mods and doing 600whp now !
Nice! I love an E91. But yeah the B58 swap cost is quite high still, thats why I went with an N55 instead. Cost of this is about 30k CAD and I've made a bunch of mistakes along the way. The next one I'll be able to do for significantly less I'm sure.
Dme is easy just rewrite vin
Your homemade press idea is gold. Going to use this on my broken lug nut on my van.
My 2013 650ix GC just blew the other day. It has the tu1. I found a used motor for under 2 grand with 65k miles, with a 3 year warranty. Probably not a good one but you can’t beat a deal like that to save my car that was worth almost 20k the other day now 2k 😂
WHAT A CHANNEL FOR ALL OF US BMW OWNERS!!! HOLY CRAP!!! A TREASURE TROVE OF A CHANNEL. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND SHARING IT ON RUclips. I personally own a BMW 528i with the N20 and can't express how delighted I am to have found your channel. You are so right, many people do BMW things but don't go into depth, document and share them while being knowledgeable technically and proficient mechanically. As many said, you are an updated channel to M539 Restorations and quite possibly the only one making this type of content. Your videography also is beautiful and clear. Really, thank you so much. I wish I could like and subscribe more than once. I am binge watching all of your videos!!!
Thank you so much for the comment, I’m glad you’re enjoying! Just keep sharing the videos so we can keep growing the channel. Appreciate your support!
The plug for my Thermostat is broken and giving me intermittent missing Thermostat fault. I can't find the right plug code online so I can order it and rewire it ? any help. Thank you
Is it possible to upgrade all the hoses and plastic parts to metal during this stage?
I purchased the Nüral pistons with Goetze rings. They come with wrist pin snap ring locks, instead of the OE circlip - the wire lock. Is that okay to use?
Interesting, is it the same part number as what I have in the video? I know mine came with new circlips and definitely not snap rings. Not sure how much of a difference it makes but may be worth reaching out to whoever you bought it from.
Correct, same part number. Thanks
so the camshaft lock only fits in one position? how do i know the camshafts are in the correct position when the engine is at tdc. im having an issue where the camshaft lock will not fit no matter how many times i rotate the engine so i think the engine might have jumped timing
My n55 runs great when cold but as it gets warm, it starts to stumble. Shop had the car for almost 2 weeks and couldn't figure it out. Had p0300, p0303, p0304, and p1072. Ltft was -14% when the code set. Maf cleaned, smoke tested, pressure tested exhaust, etc. All passed. I can't keep throwing money at a car with 178k miles. If you have any ideas, please help.
Have you checked for carbon buildup?
Bravo.. you're making a ton of bmw techs better
lol
Where did you get the lift you using
Mate what you are doing is extremely valuable, thank you for this series!
Guys, when car is affected with that much rust, is there hope for it? Let's say would anti-corrosive coatings would be of any use? Thanks for advising.
This build will have NO waste gate rattle.. Awesome work
This is such good work
Excellent
this is a nice one :D
arc terminator sells a upgraded ground cable for half the price of oem
👏👏👏👏👍
Drilling the waste gate with the turbo fully installed and with the return oil line is insane brother 😂 Especially since you only have to remove only 1 nut 😂😂
