Should the rods be replaced? Thanks.
Hi there. Rods only need to be replaced if the bearing spun because it ruins the bore. Since these were not spun, I reused them.
fantastic videos on how to replace everything on the BMW. Btw do you have a video on how to put back axle and control arm? I am having issues putting back axles and finding out the torque spec for control arms.
Glad you enjoyed it! If you check out Part 6, I replace the shocks and show the torque specs for all the control arms, tie rod and axle. Good luck!
I really loved every bits of it
I have heard the axle bolt is SINGLE USE. So you shouldn't put it back.
how did you keep the interior so nice
Thanks for your videos. Will be waitings for the next ones.
I have a bmw x1 x drive 28i 2014 .2.0 motor . The alternate/ Air compressor belt broke an now i can not get the new belt on. The power steering belt is stopping the new belt feom going on . Any tips for getting a pass the power steering belt ?
Great job as usual my friend! We would like to see a 3 (325CI or 330 CI-Vert) or 5 series (540i) manual on this channel: once done, I might buy it off of you, because I know you do a thorough and clean job! Keep them coming! Cheers from Montreal
ohhhh tbnk 🤣🤣
Awesome stuff! Well my fuel economy is no where near as good as yours lol.. Still not resolved. Still doing 150KM with 26L of gas lol... Didnt know your from Canada like me lol. Things changed so far: - Fuel Pump - MAF sensor - Spark Plugs - Thermostat - Fuel Injectors (and coded) - Oil Change Also did smoke test, no issues. Next on my list would be: - HPFP - Oxygen Sensors Running out of options lol...
Yeah, you definitely need to stop firing the parts canon and find a good shop who can do a proper diagnostic. Obviously there is a root cause and just guessing which parts to change will be costing you a lot of money! Good luck on the search!
😢 not again.. I replaced engine from dealership $5,000 plus labor.. now the timing chain ⛓️ probably.. sounds just like this car 😮
the Bimmer god
finally

When are you going to show your self with the face of course ?:))
hopefully soon
Great video man love to see it
I just completed a similar rebuild on a 2013 m sport 328. My first major project beyond simple maintenance. These n20s are pretty simple to work on, and pretty reliable apart from the chain guides.
Coolest project yet???? No hints???Keeping everyone waiting I see.
The doctor is back! P.S the second try to express Sachs was the right way. Greatings from germany
Great Video
"I drive like an ass hole". lol I can relate.
Hahaha that was too funny
Thank you sir ,, your video saved me 4,000 dollars
omg, bro, your filming is brilliant, i've never seen something clear like this thank you, bro ,good job!
I can see now why the Dealer won’t replace it, and just goes for a full turbo swap. Thx for the vid
Awesome as usual. Pardon me but what is this part and what is it's function
Thank you! There is a valve inside the muffler that opens and closes depending on conditions to make the car louder or quieter. And when the spring gets loose, like you see in the video, it causes a really annoying exhaust rattle. Quick and easy fix to resolve it though.
Only $100 and $3K in tools!
Best videos ever Love all Properly explained ❤
100% agree the diagnosis was very accurate but after seeing the tensioner and alternator seized like it was then all of sudden the crankshaft was free I was like it was them damn accessories! saving some money though absolutley loving this rebuild thank you!
Have made progress on getting my N63 out of the car and starting engine tear down. Up to the point were I will be removing vanes valves and cam gears. Does the engine need to be rotated to mount the cam alien tool for removal of the second set of cam gears of bank 2?
Been watching you since the 750Li series and I can't wait for a new video to be uploaded. Just out of sheer curiousity, what brand torque wrenches do you use? I think I saw a 1/2 Hazet in this video. Cheers!
Thanks for your support! The 1/2 is a Hazet, but the 3/8 and 1/4 are both Snap On
Great work number one question how much thinking about getting mines done i have a 2011 thinking about getting a new engine also???
thank you, that was excellent. Would you have a link to the CHRA that you used? I am only finding Chinese ones,
What was the weight capacity of your lift table… ready to drop my engine assembly, but a little concerned about the weight. Otherwise I’d have to do a pallet and a pallet jack, but would rather not bring that home from work!! Thanks again for the amazing videos & help!
The table can support 1,540lbs. You definitely need to have a good table to do this. Another thing is to make sure you add counter weights in the front seats, or put a jack in the rear of the car to prevent it from tipping over when you drop all that weight out the front! Good luck!
The N20 is an utter disgrace.
How much do you pay your helper😂
Good content bro, quick question… I have a 06 750i, would this apply to that series as well?
BMW needs to reach out to you for their rebuilds
You have to be the most particular BMW Tech in planet Earth
I’m having a similar problem with my N63, where can I contact you sir? Would you mind giving me your email?
How much is this? I think mine needs timing chain
I have a 2013 328 /N20 with 217k miles.. i have the chain kit bit its still going strong with issues. Ill do the chain at 250k miles. nonol consumption either. I drove it hard S2 tune intercooler all the works..
Yeah, this is the fix. My 2015 X5 has been getting drivetrain malfunction events, with a "low boost" code. Wastegate rattles up and down a crazy amount. Sounds like i have to drop the subframe... or the whole engine to fix this. Sigh.... For those wondering, it wasn't the bpv or the MAF. Dang wastegate. I've also replaced the ewg, and that kept me going for another 2 years without codes.
Thank you yet again for an awesome video… question; I am currently swapping a 2011 750li N63 with a factory reman engine I found in a local salvage yard. I have a 2009 750i with a locked engine… do you think it matters to the dealers if I send in the 2011 engine as a core so that I have it ready to go for the 2009? Wasn’t sure if they would track the Vin on the motor or what made sense… Thanks again for all of your knowledge sharing!
If you got the reman engine at a salvage yard, why do you need to return a core to the dealer? Either way, I don't think it matters. As long as it's the same engine generation it's fine. If it was a newer TU they wouldn't accept that, but the same generation I don't think it'll be a problem.
I was going to do the factory reman for my 2011, but I stumbled on a deal in a salvage car that had a documented 15K mile facory reman in it. However, I have a 2009 750i on-deck. Thank you!
I'm a N63 S63 lover as well . I can't drive 6 cylinders
My goodness what a project and perfectly executed
You’re the best keep what you’re doing. Thanks for the help.
Problem is even if that guide is there the others are broken and no way we can check from here
Yep, 100% right. This is just an easy check you can do but by no means 100% certainty.
@@bimmer.doctor other option is to pull the chain when cold, but I have never been able to figure out whats the ideal stretch.
Oil Priming; your screen shot, in no way, shape or form demonstrates that "all manufacturers require in their service manual when replacing an engine". You've made a claim, and then done absolutely nothing to back it up. But thank you for quoting on screen what I wrote. At least some people will see it and know the truth. According to you since my car sits all week, I must have destroyed the engine several times now.
Happy to see you’re still watching! Appreciate your support and comments even if we disagree.
Arrogant much?
You are awesome brother, i was looking for this video for a loooooongtime, I couldn't find no one doing a video with very specific instructions. May I ask how many hours you spent doing this job?,and, it didn't give you problems aligning the rack and the steering wheel?, in some cars usually we have to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right(5 turns) and than turn it back half(2.5 turns) to the left. Otherwise wheel alignment is not correct. You guys with garages are different level 😂, here in NYC we do it on the streets 😁😁.
Thank you my friend! I don't remember how many hours it took, but it was a big job. I believe it took me two days. To align the rack I didn't have any problems, bolted right back to the same spot and then obviously brought the car for a proper alignment when I was done. Doing this job on the street sounds like a nightmare 😂, good luck!
Hey, great movie! Why is the scale on the straps 0.25mm to 0.76mm when the technical data says a play of 0.025mm - 0.046mm? I measured using red strips from another company - pastigauge. The scale on them is 0.025mm - 0.175mm. They leave a much larger mark on the tenon, but it is oval. My result is 0.025mm-0.038mm. I'm concerned that there may be too little clearance. Can you explain this to me? Maybe by purchasing green stripes the shape of the trace would automatically decrease, showing a value of 0.25-0.38?
