- Turbo failure is an extremely common issue on the N20 engines, but is also seen on many others like the N54, N55, N63... A new replacement turbo will cost you easily over 1,000$. In this video, I'll show you how you can rebuild your own turbo for less than half the price, and it's a lot easier than you think!

Im in love with your vids!! I sold my BMW and dont own one currently but still enjoy watching you. Sometimes I just chill and drink coffee in the AM and watch these lol. KEEP EM COMIN!
More N63 content and more in-depth PLEASE 🙌🙌 (issues like crank shaft bearings)
My favorite BMW channel keep dem uploads coming.
It comes with those two screws because they go bad as well. They brake very very easy and should be replaced once the turbo is worked on. Delt with that issue the hard way, trust.
Very nice! Good job, well explained and perfectly documented and filmed!
Absolutely THE BEST car repair videos on RUclips hands down. You are an amazing teacher. Merci bien monsieur le professeur 🙂
Awesome vid and job, really valuable info on the turbo rebuild. I believe there's nothing about this motor that you don't know. I can tell it's done professionally and will run a long time.
This is something I would definitely do to this X1 if I need to later on down the road.
My turbo is in good condition, waste gate flap doesn't even have any play whatsoever in it so that was good to see. I'll prime it and rock on with her.
The 4 manifold gaskets should be here tomorrow and I can get those installed. That circlip is massive lol I bet it really does have some serious tension on it. Wow! 😮
Get your turbo cartridge straight from China for a little over $100 😂 I wouldn't recommend that either. Haha
Great video, waiting for the next n20 videos!
Ohhh yaaa babyyyyy
perfect as always! nice teacher.
Great work, cant wait till the next video,

Great video! Liked and subscribed immediately :)
thank you, that was excellent. Would you have a link to the CHRA that you used? I am only finding Chinese ones,
Dr. Bimmer, Would you please post how to find the leakage points around exhaust? My 328i GT xdrive(N20) exhasut smell comes into the cabin a lot recently, I would like to learn how to find the leak area like gasket, seal, pipe, o-rng in exhaust lines.. I bought the smoke leak detector for this.. but I am not.. Could you please upload with the subject next time? Thanks a lot, I am a huge admirer of yours.
Are you sure its exhaust smell? Often what happens is the valve cover will leak oil onto the exhaust manifold, and then it's sucked in through the fresh air vent and pushed through the car. If not what you could do is start with a cold engine, start the car and then feel with your hand around the suspected area before it gets hot. If there is a leak, you will be able to feel the air. Good luck!
Awesome
So how reliable is it after the rebuild
I can’t find any kits anywhere that aren’t Chinese for the tu
Part number for this turbo cartridge?
Great video! Now if only I had a 20k vapor hone machine to clean up housings or even a place that didn't charge hundreds to thousands to do simple quick parts cleaning
You don’t need the 10,000$ machine! A regular 200$ harbour freight sandblaster will do the trick
Amazing video, thank you! In your opinion, is rebuilding with an upgraded CHRA And turbine a viable option for a DIY approach to a stage 1 turbo?
Hmm, I'm not sure how much you would gain with just a CHRA. Usually the upgrades have a bigger and better CHRA, but also have a machine compressor housing to fit the bigger turbine.
I see, I didn’t realize that the compressor housing was also machined in some cases. Thanks for your reply!
Where can i buy borgwarner spare parts like the chra and orings? Thanks
Hi there, you can find them from different suppliers online. If you would like to have them rebuilt, email me info@bimmerdoctor.com
Hi, Nice job, only one issue, you just ruined the mirror finish on the inside of compressor housing with sand blasting it, that compressor is going to lose some efficiency due to increased drag.
Thanks. I was thinking about that too, but after speaking with a few turbo rebuild shops, they told me this is a common practice to clean the rust off when refurbing them so it should be alright.
wowowowo

Where can I get the parts?

This is a off topic question but I was driving my 2012 bmw 750li and I was 30 seconds away from home and I got a drivetrain malfunction message but there was no difference for about 20 seconds, when I put the car in park the car was shaking and there was a rattling sound coming from the engine, I read the codes and codes 140801, 131001, 131101, 163401 came up they have to do with camshaft and crankshaft, I can hear the timing chain rattling so I turned off the car and was looking around the engine bay looked to the bottom and there is a bunch of oil dripping and I opened the oil cap and there looked to be coolant in the oil becasue the oil cap was white and it smelled like gas. What do you think happened and do you think it’s repairable. I tuned it on just for the heck of it and it looked to run fine but you can still here timing chain rattling.
