The first time I ever saw this game was during a class party when I was in Grade 4. A couple of my classmates were playing it on a Game Gear and I remember watching them play this game. In 2007 I would end up finding a RUclipsr that made Sonic walkthroughs and he did one of this game and I watched it and that's when I first saw the entire game, though he didn't get the chaos emeralds, The RUclipsr isn't around anymore, he still has a channel but it doesn't have Sonic content. Anyway, in 2008 I would end up getting Sonic Gems Collection and I actually got to play this game and I did get all the chaos emeralds and I got to play the extra zone. Back in November 2011, On my main channel, I did a playthrough of this game and it has quite the significants as it was my first playthrough on my main channel to feature text commentary. I will never forget when I uploaded Part 1 of that and I got a comment that said Awesome Video! That comment (which is gone at this point for some reason) would motivate me to keep doing text commentary because I wasn't even 100% sure I wanted to commit to text commentary. So then I kept doing it and over the years I got better at it.
So I like this game, it's pretty fun aside from some of the chaos emeralds being a pain to get. I would say the worst emeralds to go for are the Sky High one and the Green Hills one. I also find the first boss awkward to fight as you are on a slope and you have to dodge bouncing balls and the ones that bounce really high are the most awkward to dodge. My only other complaint is the para glider controls, the para gliders are awkward to use. Aside from all that, I like this game, it has a great soundtrack, good graphics for the time and it's just a game that I really enjoy!

My brother had this game on the GameGear in the early 2000's. Personally, I think you should've played the Sega Master System version of this game as it doesn't have the screen crunch like the Game Gear does.
@0:59 Don't you find it ironic at the start of the zone, there's Tails present with Sonic despite getting kidnapped? But then again, it seems you always play the older Sonic games with Sonic solo (this also includes Mania). At least I played Sonic 2 (Genesis) with the duo cause I'm a "mother-fathering" badass!!
@3:19 What's this?! Eggman saves Sonic's life when he's about to fall into his fiery demise? But then again, Eggman *does* blackmail Sonic to gather the Chaos Emeralds, if he wants to see his friend alive, so it makes sense that he saves him.
@12:40 *I like it that the invincibility frames immediately activates temporary when Sonic is in his hurting animation then it wears off. Excellent job Aspect.*
@15:40 Wasn't this soundtrack used in the Japanese version of Sonic CD when it was singing "Toot Toot Sonic Warrior?"
@22:05 Oh, ClumsyPeteDX!! What were you thinking there, silly?!
@24:46 How cryptic to place a Chaos Emerald there, Sega.
@30:14 Man, that tunnel maze in Act 1 of Scrambled Egg Zone gave me a damn headache. My brother could never pass Act 2 of Scrambled Egg Zone.
@33:58 It's the last Chaos Emerald!! If you had 4 or less, the game would end and you would get the bad ending.
@40:26 Damn game!! You're tryin' to give me a seizure?! At least Eggman fulfilled his promise and Tails is freed from the hostage. Usually, villains trick the hero into demanding them to get something for him/her.
Anyways, good job Clumsy!! I know you'll tackle Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble. Maybe you'll cover Sonic Mania in the future.
