  • How to sleep after hernia surgery. I had umbilical hernia repair on 4.1.15 and also 8.10.16 I think... Both times I had to adjust how I laid in bed to sleep for comfort. I've been asked many times in the past how did I lie down while sleeping.

For those that think that robotic surgery isn't painful, guess again. The robots make it possible not to have to do a lot of cutting going in. However, once the surgeon is in there may need to be significant cutting. There was a lot of cutting before putting the meshes in place. The meshes have a large surface area and things need to be cut before they can be placed. It's definitely painful.

@@holmboy28 They prescribed me hydrocodone for the pain. I'm not a medical expert, but I believe it's an opioid similar to oxycodone. If I'm not mistaken, it has some similarities to heroin. I took it, but only as much as I felt necessary because I remember all the deaths associated with oxycodone. I soon switched to Tylenol, and the pain improved after a few days.

Just had surgery on Friday, and have been having a hard time sleeping as recovery goes on. It was easy the first day/night because my body was so exhausted that I didn't care how I was sleeping, all I cared about was that it was over and that I could sleep. Now that I'm on day 2 post-op, this video was super helpful, thank you so much!!

I just had an inguinal hernia surgery about three hours ago, no pain whatsoever. Just felt like I did about 1000 sit ups. If I could describe the pain it's kind of like when you do squats and you haven't done it in a while can't sit on the toilet cuz your legs are sore kind of like that pain, please don't read into the internet too much everybody's different everybody recovers different. My hernia is small so depends I guess on the size of their hernia and all that crap thank God for anesthesiologist and doctors ❤️❤️❤️

I had 3 inguinal hernias operated on 1 month ago. I feel great today but the 1st 2 days were the toughest. To sleep I sat on the bed and sort of fell over onto my side to avoid using the abs. It worked very well for me, I agree shifting positions etc. is tough but by the 3rd day I started walking around the house but still sleeping as much as possible. Great video.

I had umbilical hernia surgery one week and three days ago I walked 117 thousand steps in a week even over 40k in a day. Get out of bed and walk zero pain. The only problem I'm having is sleeping on my back. and pain in my middle back not sure why. I'm going to try and use this method because im naturally a side sleeper. For all those people scared to have the surgery so was I but its really easy and its better to have it done. Walk off the pain on the most level surface you can get to. And keep the incision clean using antibacterial soap and neosporin. and follow your drs advice. But do not try to sleep it off.

Wow, that exactly how I slept after the about 3 weeks. The first 2 weeks I slept in a chair next to my bed near the bathroom. The following week I kept in my mancave in a recliner. Last 3 nights I slept in my bed just like you did. Also I had to deal with phlegm tickling my throat making me cough it up and then I’d spit it out. PAINFUL? About 4-5 time a day. I’m good now.😁

I’ll definitely have to try the pillow supporting the back & sort of half-tilted approach. I went in for a totally different abdominal surgery on Tuesday, & when I woke up, my husband said that the surgeon told him that he had to repair TWO hernias while he was in there! I recently had my gallbladder removed, & he thinks they happened as a result of that surgery. A portion of my bowel was pushed through one of them. So I’m a whole lot more sore now than I expected, & I have more incisions than I expected. But I’m grateful that it was laparoscopic, & I’m forever grateful to my surgeon for exploring, finding, & fixing!!!

I had two surgeries for a massive inguinal hernia, six weeks apart after the failure of surgery one. First surgery open, second surgery laparoscopic. I found that initially sleeping on a sofa was best since it prevented me from rolling. Once I progressed to a bed I used a stool to access the bed and; being a side sleeper, found that one knee bent helped keep me from rolling. My hernia was over 20 years old. Gentlemen, don't let it go so long...it only complicates the issue.

Hi, it’s been a long time now and just curious if you figured out what the other pain was? I have the same pain after eating with umbilical hernia. My op was yesterday and I also experience a pain to the right side of the abdomen adjacent to the naval area too and it’s been hurting more than the incision itself. Like burning and odd cutting sensation.

@@noreenrajapasha8029 hmm the surgery involved blowing up your belly with a balloon. It could be that certain organs were bruised during this procedure. I had my inguinal hernia (Laparoscopic) surgery 6 days ago. The pain has gone right down and I haven't been needing to use pain killers for the past 2 days. I would advise following up with the surgery/consultants team to find out what exactly they did etc.

Can we workout after inguinal surgery?? Maybe after 4 Or 5 months ?

    • @chrishamilton3740
      @chrishamilton3740  4 года назад +1

I was working out as soon as 3 months without issues. I would say to start back gently and with the lighter weights and move up gradually. I did damage my repair (luckily it is still intact for the most part) from dead lifts, so be sure to take it slowly and cautiously. Be well!

I didn't have one of those (inguinal) but I think that burning is the first symptom. Go have it checked out!

Yes, anything that forced me to move my abdomen felt like an alien was near the site and moving...it eventually felt normal after a while.

    • @chrishamilton3740

It's normal. Took quite a while for mine to return to 'normal' but there is a lot of swollen tissue and fluid buildup that happens.

GaiveR USA go for it man, im 24 and ive had mine since birth but i put it off and hid it over the same irrational fear up until recently. I finally decided enough was enough, its uncomfortable alot (mine was LOW if you know what i mean), but yeah i just had surgery today and had the mesh put in and im exited to be done with it. Find a good surgeon and get it done.
