I know you did general anesthesia and some choose local anesthesia. Did they give you the option and you chose general since you had it before and it don’t bother you? I have an umbilical hernia that I’ll need surgery on and don’t want general. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and it looks like you have had a time. Hope all is going well!

Wow, that exactly how I slept after the about 3 weeks. The first 2 weeks I slept in a chair next to my bed near the bathroom. The following week I kept in my mancave in a recliner. Last 3 nights I slept in my bed just like you did. Also I had to deal with phlegm tickling my throat making me cough it up and then I’d spit it out. PAINFUL? About 4-5 time a day. I’m good now.😁

I’ve just had my bloods taken. They’ve come back negative. I need to speak to him on the phone and assured him that my blood levels have dropped below three several times and in the UK that should be a triple 9 phone call, thanks for your video. You could get a finger prick device and check it when it goes down and record it. I had to do this but now I can feel it and pretty much know the trigger (and thus how to prevent it) but even now in 2024, I know I have reactive hypoglycemia as a result of the VSG.

Second surgery, so I knew how bad this part is. Painful as each gas/air bubble has to slowly work it's way thru your system. Currently Day 4 in the recovery from robo inguinal. When it's time to "go", do a bit of walking around to get your body's internal movement going. It helps to prop your feet up a few inches on something, and read something obscure to help take your mind off the anxiety/pain of having/trying to go. And usually, the cork will blow soon after.

I had severe constipation for almost a week while on holiday in Germany some years ago. On returning home I was still not getting more than a meagre bowel movement. I felt totally bloated and under the weather. Eventually I went to my GP and he probed the rectum. Straight away he phoned the hospital and told them what was going on. I overheard him saying to the consultant "the rectum is empty". If that doesn't ring warning bells I don't know what would. He printed a referral letter and told me to go immediately to A&E (ER in the US). Once there, they asked me some questions, had another probe around, then decided on a Fleet enema. Having squirted it in, the nurse told me to wait in the patients' toilet for at least 20 minutes no matter how strong the urge to push was. After 20 minutes I finally had the most relief I ever got from Number Twos. Thereafter the hospital doc warned of not eating enough fibre, which I've eaten more of ever since that most humiliating and embarrassing event. Since then I have had other bouts of constipation and I've found the magic elixir to drink is warm prune juice. It tastes vile, being so sweet, but it has an amazing effect on the bowels, usually within 60 minutes. Some people drink it hot, but I prefer warm to hot. A glassful is plenty. The other item in the bathroom is an enema bulb when nothing works. You fill this with warm water, lubricate down there a bit, then slide the enema bulb nozzle in and squeeze. At first I also found it rather distasteful, but anything is better than suffering severe constipation. So, my two go-to's are warm prune juice and if all else fails a rubber enema bulb.

*Tips and information for recovering from Hernia Surgery if you live alone.* These are things you should do before you leave the house to go for surgery. This includes but is not limited to: Cook and prepare a week’s worth of meals and snacks before surgery. Meals that will be easy to pass through your digestive system. Things like vegetable soup with beans, carrots, celery…, oatmeal with prunes, egg salad, chicken salad, steamed carrots, broccoli, asparagus… low fat and low grease type foods. Snacks like apples, oranges, *ripe* bananas, all kinds of fruits and berries are good to keep things moving. Start taking a stool softener one or two days before surgery and then continue taking it when you get back home. Wear loose fitting clothes to the hospital and continue to do so when you get back home. Example: I took a shower that morning with an antibacterial soap, I wore clean socks, slippers, sweatpants with no underpants, a T-Shirt, and no jewelry of any kind. In a Ziplock bag place your house key, ID card, a credit card, medical insurance cards, and give it to your driver to hold. Do not take your phone to surgery. Leave your phone at home, on your nightstand, and fully charged. Place something you can grab onto next to your toilet to help you get on and off the toilet. Do the same for your bed and other areas you may sit. Have toothpaste, toothbrush, and floss out and ready to use. A glass to use for water to rinse out your mouth. You’re not going to be able to bend over to _cup water_ into your hands. If you don’t already have a _grabber,_ get one. Place a thermometer on your nightstand and make sure it is in working order. Have on hand at least two ice packs that you can wrap a clean cloth around to put over the location of surgery. Rotate them from the freezer as needed. This will keep the swelling down. Read your after surgery instructions and follow them. Listen to your doctor and follow his/her orders. Keep the wound area clean and GENTALY clean it with an antibacterial soap every morning and again before you go to bed at night. Have clean sheets on your bed. The next day get up and walk but be careful. I walked outside twice around the cul-de-sac each time I walked. I did this four times a day starting the day right after surgery. Twice in the morning, once in the afternoon, and then again in the evening. Have plenty of water and Gatorade on hand, and before you leave for surgery place a few bottles on your nightstand, computer desk, kitchen table, kitchen counters, your television chair, and in your refrigerator. Drink plenty of liquids. At least four bottles per day. Take pain medication as needed but don’t overdo it. All pain medications can cause constipation and trust me, you don’t want that. A list of movies you may want to watch. I am not going to sugarcoat this for you. It’s going to be hard. The first three days are not going to be pretty, they are hard and tough, so be ready. It gets easier on your fourth day. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing your experience. One things i disagree with you advising is “plant based diet with little meat/protein”. Protein is so very important for healing!! My earlier surgery to repair colostomy from first full open surgery emergency (which most likely has caused my 3 hernias) the protocol was even loading up on protein the week prior to surgery. Unless you have surgery on bowels/colon/intestines etc, you do not have to limit protein and should not. It is important to have well-balanced meal with both protein and fiber. My surgery in a week and having triple ventral hernia repair with component separation and mesh over entire abdomen. Good luck everyone!

    • @Elcanario91

Protein is literally the only thing that triggers protein and collagen synthesis, needed to heal any wound and muscle tear. So yeah, eat around 40g of protein at least 3-4 times a day to optimize recovery
