Wow , cant thank thank you enough. This is really helpful to me. Got my surgery done few days back. I faced so much trouble to get up from the bed until I found this video. Thanks a lot.
Pt 1. I had an abdominal surgery and these movements right after surgery are for people who weigh 150lbs. I was 200 lbs and the following day I felt like something happened to my stitches on the left side. They looked at it and they said the stitches were intact, but that was external.
Thanks I’ve found this method. I had my appendix surgery in December 2021 & I struggled getting in & out of bed safely & it’s been 3 months now. Hi Michelle this is excellent advice. I found your previous videos very useful after my abdominal hysterectomy 5 years ago. It’s also helpful as I often wake with a very sore lower back and sometimes struggle to sit up first thing in the morning. I’m going to try the link you gave me for the stretch bands later today and watch it on my tv. I’ll let you know how I get on! Many thanks again!
Oh I’m so glad you received this links! Let me know how the exercises go. Yes after abdo hysterectomy it’s really hard to mobilise isn’t it! I use this technique always to get out of bed for my back, try to use momentum so as you get better at the technique keep the movement fluid if you can. Do you have a pillow under your knees when you sleep?
Thank you so much! My sister who is a nurse sent me this link to practice before my open abdominal surgery on Monday. I am grateful for your videos, thank you!
I'm so glad this helped you Alisa - moving is so tough after abdo surgery but nowing how to move makes it all so much easier and helps recovery. All the best for your recovery!
Thanks a ton. Had a laproscopic hernia and I was in acute pain when trying to get back. The beautiful much relieving technique helped a lot. Thanks a ton.
Just had labroscopic surgery to remove an ovarian cyst. They went in thru my left side, ride side, and belly button (which hurts the most). Thank you for showing us how to log roll. I'm going to try to use this method to get out and in bed. I've been using my arms. I knew there was a better method
Brilliant method, Michelle! I was lying in bed unable to move like a beached whale until I discovered this video. Thank you!! (Bi-lateral inguinal hernia surgery.)
This has been very helpful to me. I had surgery yesterday and was getting up totally wrong. I have trouble, though, mastering the reverse to get back into bed.
Yes getting back in is tricky, make sure to sit well back on the bed. It's the getting the legs up at the same time as you lower your upper body that is the hard part. Try to do it ll in one movement - upper body goes down at the same time legs lift. It does get easier and practice is the key. If you have someone to help you raise your legs at first this can help too. All the best for your recovery 💜
@@michellephysio My wife instinctively did that and it helped a lot. And also putting one knee on the bed and bracing with my arm and doing a controlled log roll. Ends up similar to your recommendation. I’ll definitely be sharing this video with anyone I know who will have an abdominal procedure!
This video is perfect and the only helpful one iv is seen so far. Hernia surgery sucks and is painful especially when getting in and out if bed. This video helps a lot thank you.
This was very helpful. I had intestinal surgery with a "old style" incision and the hospital sent me home with essentially no discharge planning / training. The 1st morning was awful because I tried to exit the bed "sit up" style. Then I watched this video and yesterday and today were considerably better. Thanks
Thank you for this I had two hernias repaired and have been dealing with extreme cramping as well as nausea from the anesthesia. I was able too finally get out of bed with this method. 😊
@ChillaKaya my pleasure! I'm so glad to hear that the technique helped you! Remember to take it easy and follow your doctor's advice as you recover. Wishing you a speedy and smooth recovery! 🙏
@@ChillaKaya hi there if you’ve just had abdo wound avoid bass & loud singing - both these activities increase pressure within the abdomen potentially straining the wounds. Wait until healed to do these activities or check with surgeon first. Better safe than sorry 🙏
@@michellephysio oh no ! Well at least if I show up they will know I’m not joking around .. my surgery was Monday so I’m still pretty tender. ! Appreciate you
I was really struggling to get in and out of bed and it usually took me so long to do so. But after this video I get in the bed in like 2 seconds :,) thanks a ton doctor.
@laibafardan9993 I'm glad to hear that the video helped you get in and out of bed! Recovery can be challenging, and it's wonderful to know that this technique made a significant difference for you. Take care and continue to follow your doctor's advice for a smooth recovery. All the best!🙏
Hi! Tried this for the first time and it worked ❤️ tho i felt pain in the lower part of my stitches after doing the exercise. But I guess it will get better overtime. Thanks a lot!
I am unfortunately not having luck with this I dont think im capable of understanding the mechanics of this and it isnt anybody's fault but mine but this brought me a good bit of pain
Pt 2. The next day, on that same side, just under the stitches I felt a lump and on both outer thighs were numb, tingly and sensitive to the touch. It remained like thatĝfor over 1 year. They said that the lump was a surgical tissue. A few months later after standing a few hours in the kitchen, the lump got swollen and apparently was pressing on a nerve on my left leg cause I had a little difficulty walking.
Thank you for posting this! I was missing the legs and pushing at the same time. I keep trying to push up and do legs separate which definitely does not work!!
It’s 3:28am I got my hernia surgery and they took out my left testicle as well due to it being undecended. Watching this cause the pain has me in tears and the pain meds arnt working
Wish I knew this! Currently In hospital after open hernia repair at the top of my abdomen. The nurses tried to pull me out of bed and I have never felt pain like it in my life in my abdomen 😢 I screamed then couldn’t breathe it was awful 😢 I was so upset!
@Joseph Odame There’s no hard and fast rule on this, I would suggest whichever side feels more comfortable. Often the painful side is kept uppermost in sidelying and rolling.
How long do you recommend moving like this? I feel so lucky that I was getting in and out of bed this way on my own, and now after watching the video feel validated and proud and relieved! But now that I’m stronger, I notice my body wants to move more freely, but my cuff is still healing and I’m still going in and out of pain in my abdomen. I’m trying to be more mindful in my movements, even though I might be “capable” of more, because I don’t want to risk any prolapse or cuff dehiscence. Do you recommend doing this for more than six weeks?
@bonniehilts1272 Hi there! I'm glad to read you're doing so well. This is how I routinely get out of bed (protects the spine and pelvic floor). Remember that internal healing takes 3 months but not visible from the outside because the external wound is usually healed. This is an important time to listen to your body, avoid heavy lifting, straining with bowel movements and caution with exercise, walking is usually the best form of exercise and avoid intense abdominal exercises, particularly abdo crunches long term. I hope this info helps! All the best for your long-term recovery 🌻
Pt 3. I eventually went to another clinic and the Dr said that he can feel a hole in the area where the lump is. That it was a hernia. So he referred me back to the gyne clinic.
@@Mappes814 good luck my surgery type changed the night of surgery do to emergency needs I was cut down the middle instead of 3 key hole incisions my cyst was 20cm so I was sent to a cancer doctor to perform surgery I ended up loosing the ovary and fallopian tube because the cyst twisted recovery time will be hard in the beginning but I'm 2 weeks post op almost and I'm not in any pain anymore I just can't lift anything over 20lbs till September walking helps and vitamin D they'll probably put you on a liquid diet for 3 days I had a binder but removed it my first check up from surgeons okay it was uncomfortable and they put it on too tight the first time I find my incesion is healing faster with out it the surgeon doesn't think I have cancer because I'm young but one of my markers is still elevated so I have to go back he told me sometimes that happens after surgery make sure you also have a caregiver for at least 2 weeks cause you're gonna need help getting around and showering my mom has been mine but now I'm able to do things myself 2 weeks in
@@cookingwithsoul1498 it isn't nice to have that change last minute. I have known for a while I'm having a full abdo surgery down the middle. The reason they do this is in case it is cancer, they don't want to spill any of the cyst material out into your abdomen. It's much safer in the long run though I imagine more painful initially. How are you feeling now??
@@cookingwithsoul1498 thank you so much for all of this really valuable information by the way! My cyst is almost as large as yours, mine is 18 cm. My stomach has been sticking out for a while now and I couldn't figure out why! I told my gyn onc if there is cancer found there that I elect a full hysterectomy to be on the safe side. Yes worked very well for my hernia surgery. I had one 20 years ago also, so thanks for the update! 👍
@Tony Beazley great to hear this worked for you. All the best! 🙏
@@michellephysio thank you!
Thanks a ton. Had a laproscopic hernia and I was in acute pain when trying to get back. The beautiful much relieving technique helped a lot. Thanks a ton.
@saif akbar my pleasure - thanks so much for sharing and I'm so glad to read this helped. All the best to you! 🙏
@Graham Curtis My pleasure Graham , thank you so much for commenting - wishing you all the best for your recovery! 🙏
@kerry jordan My pleasure Kerry! Thanks so much for sharing and I'm so glad to know that this helped you❤️
This was very helpful. I had intestinal surgery with a "old style" incision and the hospital sent me home with essentially no discharge planning / training. The 1st morning was awful because I tried to exit the bed "sit up" style. Then I watched this video and yesterday and today were considerably better. Thanks
@cpbow I'm so glad this helps you feel better - wishing you all the best for your recovery! 🙏
@@michellephysio well trying too figure out should I play bass today and sing it’s a tough decision!
! Appreciate you
Best video ever for this. Worked wonderfully for my hiatal hernia repair surgery and still works in general! Thank you! 😊🙏🌷
@Joan Donahue Shanosk my pleasure! thanks so much for your kind feedback. I'm so glad this helped ❤️

I’m so anxious when I’m getting in n out of bed. Thank you for sharing
@CloverLemon you're welcome. Hope this helps you - all the best! 🙏💕
Oh, my God, thank you so much. That is what I just needed now to learn how to get up from my bed.❤❤❤❤
@gsogso3444 You're very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to comment. Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery! ❤️
Thanks for quick tips. Just had herniated disc surgery surgery and it is brutal getting in.out of bed. This helps but is still painful.
Thank you ❤️ I've just had my appendix out. You are a gem.
DemstarAus so glad this helps!
So how are you supposed to do this with a very soft bed when your mattress and boxspring are on the floor?
Thank you so much for making this video!
It was very helpful.

@Alejandra Pastrana my pleasure - happy to help!❤️
I should have watched this before my hernia surgery ii had just about a week ago. I'm gunna start getting up like this.
Wish I knew this! Currently
In hospital after open hernia repair at the top of my abdomen. The nurses tried to pull me out of bed and I have never felt pain like it in my life in my abdomen 😢 I screamed then couldn’t breathe it was awful 😢 I was so upset!
Thanks a ton for this video. Extremely helpful
@phrmacsac My pleasure and great privilege to help indeed 🙏

@In His Presence Fresh Oil My pleasure ! I'm glad you find this helpful -wishing you well! 🙏
Thank you so much for this video! My mom just had surgery, and it’s been so long since I worked in PT, so this was a wonderful refresher! ❤️
@Brittany Gunnells My pleasure indeed and I wish your mom all the best for her recovery in the coming months 🙏
I can't believe I did all these without watching this video... 😮😮😮😮😮Amazing.
Wish i watched this before.. had an open hernia surgery 3 weeks ago.. getting out of bed was extremely painful for a week.
Should the roll over be on the side where the cut where the surgery was done or the opposite side??
Hello, what is the purpose for your pillow on the abdomen technique?
Pt 3. I eventually went to another clinic and the Dr said that he can feel a hole in the area where the lump is. That it was a hernia. So he referred me back to the gyne clinic.
This video is so useful
@ign44 thank you for taking the time, I’m really so glad to read this information is helpful for you! Michelle
thank you so much for making this video:) ❤️

@RAHUL RS You’re most welcome Rahul- I’m glad this helped you 💖
I have ovarian cyst removal surgery tomorrow so i need to know this and the person caring for me needs to
All the best to you for your speedy recovery & wellbeing 🙏
I'm having that on Monday!
If no cancer, then I would prefer to keep the unaffected anatomy. My mom is here with me. I'm so glad the recovery time isn't too bad.
I just had the fluer de lis tummy tuck. I have a full T incision and have two side drains I don't want to roll onto. what do you suggest to get up? this has been horrible
Thank you
Bless you. This is a life saver.
Great to hear from you Martha - wishing you all the best! 🙏
wow! thanku u sooo much
@Anna Law You're so welcome! Hope this helps❤️
🌟Awesome thanks a million! ❤
Wow this is really great I’m scared to go on my side though since I’ve just gotten my appendix removed! ?3
Do u have examples on a hospital bed?
I think we need to exhale while getting up from bed and we shouldn't hold breathe? Can the pillow be excluded after some days?
Also please show us sitting and getting up from chair please.
Hey Rohitha - yes great idea to exhale when sitting up and yes use the pillow as required. Yes I can definitely cover standing up in future videos too take care, all the best!
helpful! thank you.
@queenbeet my pleasure! So glad you find this helpful.❤️
