    NOTE: The default range of the throttle in iNav goes to 1850. If you don't calibrate the throttle like this then you could be losing the last 15% of your thrust. You can alter the max throttle PWM to be higher in iNav before you do the calibration but as the whole point of this is to match the ESC to the iNav throttle range that isn't needed. You don't need to do this if you're using a newer protocol like DSHOT as the digital protocol removes the need for calibration (that's why we no longer do that on multi-rotors with modern ESCs). Happy flying!

    Good info Lee. I wasn't looking for a video about esc programming but (thank the Lord) I ran across this video today after multiple attempts (and failing) to get my esc into programming mode using the radio and flight battery. I never considered doing it in Inav!! It went into programming on first try. You can always teach an old dog new tricks. Appreciate you Lee. 👍 I went to Paypal and bought you a cup of coffee. Roger

    I got caught out by this today on a maiden flight. Throttle was cutting in and out periodically when I had the stick above 80 or 90%. Totally forgot about throttle calibration on the esc, and then didn't know how to attempt it in INAV. Thanks for the video, seems to be steady now across the full range.

    Really interesting, Lee! Thanks a lot! 😊
    I never did it with a quad or rc airplane, but I remember watching really old videos where people had to do it. And I do it with my rc cars! 😂
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

      I programed an ESC with INAV, the Sonicmodell that came with the AR Pro and it worked. Now am trying to do great same and put the brake on another, VGood 32 60A and it won't stay programmed after I remove the battery. If I disconnect from INAv and the battery is till connected, the brake is on. I disconnect and reconnect, and the program is lost. What am I doing wrong?

    M y ESC won't start until its is at 16% no matter how many times I calibrate it? Is there some sort of setting in iNav I am missing where it makes this happen? (HobbyKing 30A UBEC, iNav 2.6.1 / F405 Wing F.C.

    Could you pls do an update for calibrating the ZOHD ESC (Dart 250g)?
    For some reason when following the steps in this video, it never stops beeping! It seems to step thru 1 beep, 2 beeps, 3 beebs and more and then repeats the entire sequence ad infinitum. I am unsure when to reduce the throttle to zero to capture the range.

    • @Painless360

      I am not sure what you mean. I have a R-XSR receiver connected to Matek 411-WSE running iNav. The instructions in the video work fine until I apply power to the FC when the endless loop of beeps starts.

    • @rsilk2969
      @rsilk2969 4 года назад +3

      FIXED.
      I think I have resolved the issue. The ZOHD ESC will go into "programming mode" after 3 seconds of applying battery power if the throttle is not moved to zero before then. This means you need to zero the throttle IMMEDIATELY (within 1 second) after the 2 initial short beep-beep tones.
      This will be true if you calibrate via iNav, or a receiver.
      The "manual" implies that you have 3 seconds _after_ the initial beep-beep before it enters programming mode - which is why I was hearing an endless sequence of beep tones.

      @@rsilk2969 same issue for me. I think Lee’s explanation is fine for the majority of ESC’s but not all. Mine didn’t come with any instructions. I waited 3 seconds then put throttle to zero. I think it’s worked!!

    Quick question.
    When you had the motor at 100% it was showing 1850 value.
    Should this be changed to 2000 somewhere in iNav?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 года назад

      You could but not needed. This will set the max throttle on the ESC to the same value. Happy flying

    I have also been at it since long before ESCs, but I always wondered whether there are pitfalls when we calibrate both ESCs in a twin in one go. Will two identical ESCs always go through the procedures in perfect unison, or is there a risk of engaging the brake of one when you calibrate the other?

    • @Painless360

      Painless360 the ESC is out of a horizon habu 2, so I am assuming it would be PWM. I do not see PWM in the drop down. The FC arms okay, and I have even tried a second ESC (sams kind).

    Hello Lee,
    I got the brand new EDF RC Jet and trying to convert it into Digital FPV plane.
    I soldered the ESC's power and signal wires to the flight controller. And flashed the flight controller with INAV 6. I calibrated the ESC but the problem is that the motor isn't spinning and keeps beeping every second. On the radio transmitter, throttle min is trimmed at 1000 and max is trimmed at 2000.
    Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue? Here is the video demonstration of the problem: ruclips.net/video/75uxwvwFWP0/видео.html

    Hi, This is a good video 'cause I didn't know this was available. However, I was wondering if you could shed some light on an ESC/Motor issue that for the last few days, I can't get sorted.
    The details are here.
    facebook.com/groups/INAVFixedWing/permalink/1476336672568126/?comment_id=1476512665883860&reply_comment_id=1476518835883243
    In a nutshell, I have a 722-Wing and almost everything works except getting the motor to function. I have tried the ESC Calibration on my TX and RX and the motor ESC combination works fine. However, if I connect the ESC to the F722-Wing, Calibration appears to work fine but when I try & spin the motors up, it starts then stops as in the video.
    Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.
