Hey man. Was looking forward to yr final video and meanwhile watched a few other reviewers. Oh man, what a disappointment. I really wanted to hv a good entry action cam, never used one but for my cycle touring I wanted to upgrade. Sigh...I really hope a firmware update can fix that sound issue at least bit. I just don't get, how such essentiell feature like dphbd can possibly pass QC and satisfy the engineers. Please keep us posted if the update did sth. I subscribed and looking forward to it Wanna take a decision asap.
@@gregtoope Brother any update? Im eyeing on this one if they can fix the audio issue ill surely get it. Btw, im new to your channel and i really love how you review, you're straight to the point.
I used a AKASO Brave 7 side by side with a GoPro Hero 7 black hoping the Brave would be a cost effective alternative but the video quality/sharpness was night and day. The GoPro is still the market leader, I returned the Brave 7 the next day.
FYI, I bought the Brave 7 recently and have to say that the audio is actually pretty decent for an action cam. You probably figured this out by now but you have to turn "Wind Noise Reduction" - OFF and then it comes in much louder with actually a bit of bass. Maybe a tiny bit muddy but overall I was impressed for it being the internal mic of an action cam. Of course, it is Decemeber 2022 and maybe they also updated the camera since the time of your review. If I do turn on Wind Noise Reduction, I do get the same results as your tests from last year.
Thank you for this, I have a Brave 4 and was looking at getting a GoPro because I'm crazy like that due to lack of coffee at times. Anyway's the Brave 7 LE looks good to my eyes and the price is beyond just right. I'm not looking to make a movie and as for sound well, I would never use any camera as my main sound that's just crazy. If you want to have sound, you just have a sound recording device yes more stuff but it's just what you have to do. Thank you again for taking the time and sharing your thoughts.
You are so right. Your review says exactly what I was thinking. For the price, great little camera with sound issues. Just hope they can fix it with a firmware update. 😊
You have done a very detailed analysis of the camera. It was interesting to listen, but I bought it for vlogs and the quality did not suit me, I thought it shoots better)
After watching your videos from the unboxing to the firmware update on the brave 7 I bought one. Played with it for a day and I'm a bit frustrated. Image is nice, sound not so good but it picks up every touch to the case. I'm taking it tomorrow on my sxs. Which is what i bought it for. To record trail rides. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up buying the hero10. It's a bit more than double the price but seems worth it. I paid $159 for the brave 7 and the hero 10 it's on sale for $349. Thanks for all the great info.
Thank you for the very thorough review. As is usual for your videos, it was super helpful. I hope that Akaso can get the audio issue worked out. Here in the US, the DJI Osmo Action is selling on Amazon for $200. At $150, the Brave 7 is going to be a tough sell in the short term (while the OA is still available at that price). Particularly if a person doesn't need external audio. The price difference immediately grows though if external audio is required. It only costs $10 to add an external mic to the Brave 7, but it costs $40 for the OA ($30 for the mic adapter, $10 for a mic). I find that ("hidden" value) to be one of the great strengths of the Akaso line. One doesn't get nickel-n-dimed into the stratosphere. In that regard, GoPro is king. LOL Thanks again... I look forward to hear how the updated firmware addresses the audio issue.
FOR ME AS A FISHERMAN NO MATTER WHAT IM FILMING THE WIND KILLS MY SOUND ON EVERY VIDEO AND I DON'T REALLY CARE IF THEY SEE MY FACE SO I JUST TAKE THE SOUND OUT AND DO VOICE AND MUSIC OVERS AFTER. SO FOR ME FOR THIS PRICE FANTASTIC.. THANKS FOR THE INCREDIBLE REVIEW LET ME KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.
I bought the V50 elite today. For the simple fact I can get an external mic for it. People will let you slide a bit on photo quality. But the sound being garbage is a deal breaker.
So I’m about 99% sold on a akaso brand. I plan on recording while 4wheeling. Very light trail riding maybe a lil mud and out in the rain. Witch version can use phone for live playback. But also last the longest. Plan on doing 4K 30fps with the stabling option on. Just so much to chose from
most welcome. we are going to be reviewing an updated version of the Brave 7 in a week or so. Akaso says that they have fixed some of the issues. Heres hoping. 🤞🏻
I have this camera, the audio was rubbish, I then contacted Akaso, they provided a firmware update and now the audio is absolutely fine, so for me it was a firmware issue, had no problems since.
I bought one direct from akaso. It didnt work, wouldnt power on at all. Akaso were excellent dispatching a replacement one immediately. Im using it as a dash cam on my motorcycle with its driving mode option.
Thank you for the video. Very informative and honest!! I am interested in a video camera for scuba diving in the Pacific. GoPro is outside my budget. What would you recommend? I also want to be able to capture sound too. You have more experience with action cameras and I value your feedback!! Thank You!!
If you can find an older GoPro (7 or higher) that would be your best bet. You can find some of these on sale and they are one of the better purchases if you want good quality at a reasonable price.
Hi Greg, you've made lots of great videos on the Akaso's. I'm a cyclist and I'm looking for something to capture commutes but also versatile enough for family occasions. I can budget for any end of the akaso range; which one do you recommend? I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks very much for your final thoughts and I must say the front screen looks very nice and interesting what you said about audio and agree with you. Still looks really nice action camera and a bit like GoPro. What's the batteries like for recording time when fully charged? I hope Akaso can fix audio and when you were talking in footage I couldn't hear you what you were saying. I'd buy it to replace my Akaso 7000 as I really like that front screen next to camera it makes it more like GoPro and the camera blooks a very nice size. I hope you do more video footage from this little camera in future! Stay safe buddy!

I just bought this camera today but it's comes this Wensday I already have the mic and I'm excited for this I'm going to using for.my ghost hunting channel and vlogs
Thanks for the great review. One thing I really wanted from this camera was the voice control feature - with the internal mic being so bad does voice control work without the external mic? And why did they remove the tripod mount from the body?
Okay very thorough review. The Akaso 7 is officially off of my “do not buy” list unless they fix the microphone problem. As a side note, I found the reviewers speech pattern or “tick” very annoying and distracting. The unconscious and constant “lip smacking” deterred from an otherwise good review.
As you say, it's a deal breaker. I've been waiting for this camera since last year, but thinking on using it mainly for recording my rides on natural trails with may friends on my mountain bike, carrying an external mic all the time is a no for me considering you already have a chest mount an hydration pack fiddling around, probably too uncomfortable in a 6 hours+ long ride we use to go on weekends.
Excellent video thanks... I have just purchased one for my daughter.. I have a question.. Which gimbal should I choose so it will be compatible with the camera. I liked the idea of a feiyu..
So maybe hold off for a bit. just got an email from Akaso and looks like they may have figured out what was causing the audio issues. And it maybe a problem that cant be fixed with a firmware update. So hold tight. Im hoping Akaso will send me a new one once they have the problem fixed. They told me that they hope to have it corrected in the next month.
Greg, please update when you find a solution, or Akaso updates you on the gain issues you had with the mic while riding. External mic is okay, but not if the audio is unusable due to the distortion you encountered. Stay safe.
Awesome review hope they fix the audio kind a silly thing they don't figured out people want to ear their voices have a question about the remote did you know if the remote is also waterproof? i looking for a camera that is waterproof whit a remote that is also waterproof thx.
I called akaso yesterday....Aug 31, 2021......no external mic available and they don't know when they will get them in stock....I also asked about the 'update' to the internal mic sound quality....she didn't have a clue....difficult to actually talk w/ them. So I've held off purchasing it because of lack of external mic...availability.........sad
Ok so in my search for the best action cam, regardless of price, I found the following: The GoPros are the most expensive, have the best picture, but comes with virtually nothing which forces you to purchase accessories that add to that already high price, and they are well known for overheating and shutting down which negates the best picture quality since when shutting down, there is no picture at all. The Dji action 3 is less expensive, still comes with basically nothing, and has a focus issue. The Akaso brave 6 pro has decent picture but no front facing screen. The Akaso 7 has no sound. The Akaso brave 7 LE has no external mic, uses micro type plug in for charging, and indirect sunlight washes out the picture. The insta 360 is expensive and is oddly shaped for mounting in many situations. I may be hard to please but these issues are deal breakers for me. So I sit and wait. In my opinion, the GoPro hero 9 is the best deal for the dollar but at $295 us, still too expensive considering it’s the third generation back now that the 11 is out. In addition, it still comes with basically nothing and the kits that can be purchased with it either don’t work on the GoPro or are very cheaply made and they break. Anyway, that’s how I’ve broken it down when it comes to action cameras in my opinion.
I use the brave 6 Plus for moto vlogging but I'm having a big problem that made me go back to my Sena 10C Pro. The big problem is that I never know if I'm recording or not! I have not found any solution. When riding it's impossible to see the faint flashing blue light in the motorcycle mirror and the little beep is impossible to hear when I'm riding. The remote on the the 7 could be a solution but not sure if it's easy enough to read when riding on a bright day. The Sena let's me know when I start recording and when I stop with a voice message in the speakers.
I tried mine in a water resort today and Im not very happy about it. In fact, im devastated. At first, when water splashes onto it the lens and the small screen beside it becomes foggy. When i tried to dip it under atmost 10 inches underwater for like 10 seconds or less the water gets inside the lens and the screen beside it. Then the main screen started to blink many times. And now its dead. Like i cant turn it on kind of dead. What should i do?
I received today a Brave 7 and the audio is a mess. Also, i can not find the replacements for the lens-cover-glas. Concidering that your Video is now three years old, this is really disappointing because it means, that Akaso didn't do anything about this. I have trouble believing those good reviews on Amazon.
Sir, Thanks for the reviews. Thumbs up! I remember you say in your earlier video that Brave 7 does not support external mic. Was that a different or earlier model? Please confirm as I am interested to buy 1. Thanks a million
@@gregtoope thank you I did not know that. I was going to get an older gopro model but I heard it's no fun getting your videos to your phone with those. I'm using an akaso v50x but I find unless I'm using it on a tripod the rest of the video footage is unusable so I've never wanted to get more akaso products because of the poor everything except taking a picture which most cell phones do rather well.
Every time i record with this camera, halfway through it switches the video to slow motion i literally can not figure it out, i film on the front so i can see, and while filming the screen turns black, and video starts in slow motion, am i doing something wrong?
Planning on trying airsoft soon and thinking of using a head cam. Would the stabilisation be up to running and jostling? Also would the replaceable lense cover be robust enough to take a hit from a bb?
My fault Underwater Destroyed Akaso brave 7 and the only thing that still works great is the sound recording? That is so funny. Great sound post production of course.
Hey! Have you tested the Camera in the Sea water? Or in water in general? I am a little bit skeptical, don’t know why. And remote - is it waterproof or just splashproof? Thanks :-)
Bluddy hell I bought the LE thinking it was a updated version of a standard 7.its not turned up yet but that's gutting. I wanted it because of the remote with a screen as it will be used on my motocross bike. This is my first ever action camera and I managed to get it wrong 😂 bugger
I just got my Brave 7. I want to hang it upside down underneath my bicycle saddle to film what's going on behind me. Is there a way you can get this to shoot 'upside down? I just tried a test shoot and it recorded the video upside down which means I have to rotate it once I get it into the computer. The GoPro and Osmo action allows you to flip the orientation of the video when recording. Thanks.
I just bought one of these before seeing your video and I’m a bit disappointed and I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned it on your review video. But before I get to that just want to say that the “would be “ replaceable front element screen 🤔 I doubt it would be anything but that I think that maybe a design quirk as I can’t see them stocking this part- no money/ profitability in it! The sound quality agin deal killer/breaker! the fact you have to get an external mic and find some way of modifying it to sit on the cam ( as opposed to be tethered to mic and cam ) is a clever money grab ploy on Akaso point of view. But the big elephant in the room and a deal breaker/killer is that on the Brave7 there is no way of flipping the video during recording like say on a go pro! I got this cam for cycling purposes and how else do you mount an action camera on a bicycle upside down with the mounting support and you would think the cam would rotate the actual recording- it does not 🙃🙃 and no in cam function to do so either! You have to do it in post editing which say if you want to shoot and upload to social media you can’t do on the fly as will be upside down and laterally reversed! But I suppose buy cheap camera you get cheap functionality so…….. I may send mine back and save up for the £400 go pro or the equally £380 insta 360. At lest that shouldn’t disappoint!
you cant expect a camera at this price point to do the same as a gopro or a insta360 camera. Quality isn't going to be as good and features arent either. IF they were on par with gorpo/insta360 then those companies would go out of business. And if you buy an insta360 camera be prepared for a lot of post processing on a lot of their cameras. I personally use the insta360 One R and RS and the X2 and spend a lot of time with the software processing the files. Thats just part of it. So using an app to flip the screen in post (even on a smartphone) is not hard at all. In regards to audio. The 7 audio isn't great. But like a lot of us that use action cams we don't care about the audio. Ive usually got an action cam mounted somewhere that even if the internal mic was good all it would pick up is wind noise. So whats the point. This would be a great cheap option for those needs. If you want good sound (while moving at any kind of speed) you are going to need to use some form of external mic.
@@gregtoope to be honest you would think that all action cameras should be able to that basic function i.e. record video right way up regardless of camera body orientation. Heck that's the Number 1 reason why you buy an action cam with the various mounting options init🤔 or am I naieve to think that the manufacturers wouldn't think this be like a main option in their device menu " video orientation " even all phones do this effortlessly 🤦🏾♂️
@@DavosPessos ive reviewed over 30 different action cams and that is not a feature of the majority of them. And those that do have accelerometers in them have caused the camera to record footage with the wrong orientation as it senced it was upside down when recording and then the camera flipped over. so you'd have to flip the footage somewhere in the middle of the edit. AND how many people would forget that they inverted the footage in the menu and forgot to turn it back. I have cameras that change orientation and turn this feature off especially because of that.
I know you’re really busy but it’s because of your video on the Braves 7 that at this time I decided not to purchase it because there is not an external mic available. I called the company. But my question is this I did a short video with my brave 4 and it turns out to be about 128 MB. How do I get it down smaller so that I can post it? Or is it even possible?
Thats actually really small for a video file. The files i work with are usually a couple Terabytes in size. Video is large. Not much you can do about it.
Have you had any issues with the screen freezing when you attempt to turn on the wifi? Every time I touch the wifi icon it freezes the screen and I need to reboot the camera. I've reached out to Akaso to see if I need a firmware update but have not heard back yet.
Has anyone dealing with Akaso customer service gotten responses beyond the canned replies asking for order numbers, model, and firmware versions? Each time I've gotten to that point and replied to them with that info, they just stop responding each time. Is it just an automated response line they have set up?
Has anyone else got this camera and use it as a dash cam/ motorbike helmet cam. I was waiting for this camera with upgrades such as the water proofing for motorbike I’m not overly fused about the internal mic on my motorbike, but as a dash cam I would need it. Just wonder what other people thoughts are
so i ordered the camera before knowing this and the camera would record straight static even with a foam filter on.. So i sent it back and ordered another still not knowing this sound issue.. it will be here today. should i open try the firmware update or just return it and put the money to another camera????

They fix it ? The sound.. to mutch waterproof seal
Hearing and seeing good feedback on the XTU X1 camera.
I may have to give it a look.
BRAVE 6 PLUS is out of stock. Should I go for the BRAVE 6 or the BRAVE 7?
Greg, please update when you find a solution, or Akaso updates you on the gain issues you had with the mic while riding. External mic is okay, but not if the audio is unusable due to the distortion you encountered. Stay safe.
yeah im hoping.
nice review
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome review hope they fix the audio kind a silly thing they don't figured out people want to ear their voices have a question about the remote did you know if the remote is also waterproof? i looking for a camera that is waterproof whit a remote that is also waterproof thx.
For you brother, which one do you prefer brave 7 le or this brave 7?
I use the brave 6 Plus for moto vlogging but I'm having a big problem that made me go back to my Sena 10C Pro. The big problem is that I never know if I'm recording or not! I have not found any solution. When riding it's impossible to see the faint flashing blue light in the motorcycle mirror and the little beep is impossible to hear when I'm riding. The remote on the the 7 could be a solution but not sure if it's easy enough to read when riding on a bright day. The Sena let's me know when I start recording and when I stop with a voice message in the speakers.
Nice video!! What is the name of the camera that you have in your ear?
That's an Ordro EP7
Bom dia!
Não consigo melhorar a captação do áudio da minha Akaso Brave 7 LE, você pode me ajudar a resolver isso?
I tried mine in a water resort today and Im not very happy about it. In fact, im devastated. At first, when water splashes onto it the lens and the small screen beside it becomes foggy. When i tried to dip it under atmost 10 inches underwater for like 10 seconds or less the water gets inside the lens and the screen beside it. Then the main screen started to blink many times. And now its dead. Like i cant turn it on kind of dead. What should i do?
You should return it and have your money back, and ask them WHEN, exactly, they think they gonna make it work as it's being advertised...
This camera Brave 7 and Brave 6 Plus have the exact same sensor and chipset and sensor. Hisilicon (Hi3559V200 and Sony IMX458)
I want to use the Akaso brave 7 as a studio camera for RUclips, will the audio help me since I won’t be out often?
Watching from phillipines.
thanks
I received today a Brave 7 and the audio is a mess. Also, i can not find the replacements for the lens-cover-glas. Concidering that your Video is now three years old, this is really disappointing because it means, that Akaso didn't do anything about this. I have trouble believing those good reviews on Amazon.
How about photos? I have read that they are in raw format (dng). Im only interested in underwater photos.
I accidentally Change to black and white can you help me to make on color again?
Sir,
Thanks for the reviews. Thumbs up!
I remember you say in your earlier video that Brave 7 does not support external mic. Was that a different or earlier model?
Please confirm as I am interested to buy 1.
Thanks a million
Brave 7 LE doesnt support external. Brave 7 does.
@@gregtoope
Sir, thanks for your quick response
Subscribed
Surprising though that their later model has a deficiency
What would be your favourite action camera.
Probably the Insta360 One RS. Just so versatile
@@gregtoope what if you don't own a computer.
@@WoodsUnknown you can use the Insta360 app for your phone.
I see you released this great little vid 10 months ago - any update on the audio situation?. - thanks “🥃”..
Still waiting for the sound issue to be fix before buying... the 7 LE has a better mic in internal, now in 7 i have to buy an external?
hopefully they fix it soon. sounds like there may be an issue with the water proof lining that is blocking the internal mic.
Do you think this camera would be good for underwater such diving ?
That i cant answer as ive never used it to dive with. Hopefully someone here can answer that for you.
How is image stablization for Brave 7, compared to Go Pro? Thanks.
Every time i record with this camera, halfway through it switches the video to slow motion i literally can not figure it out, i film on the front so i can see, and while filming the screen turns black, and video starts in slow motion, am i doing something wrong?
The 1/3 inch sensor will only work in bright light
Planning on trying airsoft soon and thinking of using a head cam. Would the stabilisation be up to running and jostling? Also would the replaceable lense cover be robust enough to take a hit from a bb?
My fault Underwater Destroyed Akaso brave 7 and the only thing that still works great is the sound recording? That is so funny. Great sound post production of course.
Hey! Have you tested the Camera in the Sea water? Or in water in general? I am a little bit skeptical, don’t know why. And remote - is it waterproof or just splashproof? Thanks :-)
How’s the battery life?
Where can I find the firmware update??
Im looking for a camera to go snorkling with. Will this camera be good for that?
For the money I really like My Akaso V50x but they are SO hit and miss on the Audio…
That is very true. If you want good audio you need to stay with the big brands. GoPro, DJI or Insta360
Yes, I don't bother about the audio.
Then it should work. Plus they just updated the Brave 7 and the internal audio is much better.
Has audio issues been resolved I am looking at getting a camera like this
Has anyone tried diving this with you without waterproof case?
Maybe tug the mic into your helmet will get better sound result.
yeah we are going to try some different mic placements to see what we can find to be the best location.
Bluddy hell I bought the LE thinking it was a updated version of a standard 7.its not turned up yet but that's gutting. I wanted it because of the remote with a screen as it will be used on my motocross bike. This is my first ever action camera and I managed to get it wrong 😂 bugger
How do you use the screen that is next to the camera??
Hi. with the frame on, is the external mic usable? the port accesible?
narrow view looks the best
I just got my Brave 7. I want to hang it upside down underneath my bicycle saddle to film what's going on behind me. Is there a way you can get this to shoot 'upside down? I just tried a test shoot and it recorded the video upside down which means I have to rotate it once I get it into the computer. The GoPro and Osmo action allows you to flip the orientation of the video when recording. Thanks.
Can you do a review on the brave 8
We have 4 videos on our channel in regards to the Brave 8. Here is one of the first ones.

Any live streaming??
Any gps ??
Does EIS reduce recording shake when mounted on a motorcycle handle bar?
Im thinking that it would help. But micro vibrations are something that is affecting the sensor itself. SO depends on how micro the shake is.
@@gregtoope I hear you, saying that tho I’ve since returned it gonna get the GoPro 9 instead
@@gregtoope I wasn't sure you could actually share it.....thanks
So i sent it back and ordered another still not knowing this sound issue.. it will be here today. should i open try the firmware update or just return it and put the money to another camera????
hello i have same camera, do you know where can you buy remote. official store dont sell separete 😟. Remote for akaso brave7
Could the V50 Pro SE still be the best value?
