    Ralph Lauren may be a fashion icon, but in all honesty, he looks like someone at a novelty event in that picture! It's the more elaborate version of the black tie tee shirt, in my opinion. I can imagine seeing that at some sort of hiking gala with bouncy castles worn by the attendants.

    A suit jacket or pants is made with specific material and it is difficult to make it look intentional when worn with a blazer. It usually looks like a design mistake or that
    you didn't have the correct pants available. Also, lately it seems to be the style to wear the jacket too tight with much pulling away at the button which is buttoned.
    Even Tom Ford always does this and others are copying the look. Not a Good look...

    Don't wear tight chinos with a suit jacket. It looks absolutely terrible and I fell into this trap due to my large quads. Get trousers that flatter your legs alongside with your upper body. Invest in quality dress pants, don't go cheap on it. Wish I knew this at the start. The chinos I had fitted me, but when you have a fitted comfortable jacket, with thightish chinos it looks like a school boys outfit.

    Mixing three different suits has an interesting parallel in formal wear - morning dress (and its semi-formal equivalent). Unless a full morning suit is being worn, we are usually looking at a black morning coat, cashmere striped trousers, and a waistcoat most often in a dove grey or buff. I think this morning dress presents some interesting lessons on how to arrange things like solid colours, patterns etc. in a mixed outfit.

    • @OrrosGG
      @OrrosGG 3 года назад +2

      I totally agree, the suit had a different purpose in its origin, its uniform appearance with same fabric on trousers and jacket made it the ideal working attire, nowadays suits appear more formal because of what I just mentioned, its uniformal appearance, which with nowadays’ conception we see it as more formal than a spezzato, but to be honest there are some spezzatos with a certain level of formality that has origins from Morning Dress / Stroller, for example a Navy Suit Jacket with Gray Flannel trousers is not as formal as a Stroller but to a certain degree has some formality to it compared to the average spezzato combination.

    Nice video. I always liked spezzato.

  • @isaacsingleton9187
    @isaacsingleton9187 2 года назад +1

    I love spezzato and I love trying to push the boundaries of it, especially in more formal settings. For example right now I'm wearing something you probably wouldn't recommend:
    I needed a more formal look, but I don't like the plainness of a solid black suit, so I combined the waistcoat and trousers of a black three piece with a vintage charcoal three button jacket, and a regular white button up with a deep red silk floral patterned tie, and brogued black derby shoes. The charcoal on black breaks the rule of contrasting your outfit, but it breaks up the uniformity while still providing a formal, dashing, early 1900s esque look, that makes you stand out when you wear it confidently. I've gotten quite a few compliments already on it.
    I've also broken up my double breasted burgundy suit, by pairing it with black trousers, or by pairing its trousers with a dark grey pinstripe jacket, both of which have also garnered attention and compliments.
    While contrasting is a better, safer look, I think if you just wear your outfits confidently, and maintain a matching formality, you can absolutely pull off less contrasting, more formal spezzato outfits.

  • @Dallen9
    @Dallen9 3 года назад +2

    I'll disagree on the pin stripe Spezzato. the Key to Pin stripe Spezzato is either creating a seamless contrast shift like a dark with light pin stripes to light with dark pin stripes or you match the tone(light or dark color) of the pin stripes to the pants color. Pin stripes and Spezzato is tricky and difficult to pull off so for the brave it'll always be a challenge.

    During Florida's short winter, I like matching my light grey or my dark brown tweed jackets with dark indigo tailored jeans. Then I combine it with a french cuff shirt in a complimentary pastel color and an appropriate hat to create my own version of Spezzato which seems to work out well.

    I guess I’m naturally talented since I never found spezzato very hard and I’ve been doing it since I started at 16. I just never liked suits, they’re simply too boring

      A pocket square can be a good tie replacement - something interesting and more formal that shows skill and attention

    • @alans.4167
      @alans.4167 3 года назад

      I agree, pocket square. If you want something to break up the shirt you could also do a vest or sweater vest.

    • @Gilamath.

      Agree with a good pocket square. Depending on your triggers, you might also find use for a good-quality wool turtleneck sweater. Have you looked into bolo ties? They can be worn more loosely than neckties or bow ties. But, of course, you’re the only one who can judge feels safe and comfortable for you

    American Casual: Ditch the suit for t-shirt and jeans.
    Italian Casual: Mixing suits
    American Casual: Sloppy and lazy
    Italian Casual: More work than wearing a suit. ;)

    I understand that this channel is more about formal and classic menswear, but I work in Silicon Valley and generally am the best dressed person in my office. It’s mostly T Shirts and jeans at my workplace (pre-Covid of course). I typically wear a button down shirt, cotton chinos and brogues to work. I have been experimenting with the untucked look lately. It would be great to hear your thoughts on this trend. Good or bad?

      Would that were the case, at least with me. 😂 I’ve actually lost weight over the last year. A lot more time for me to run. I also practice 3 different martial arts; Wing Chun, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, all of which are massive calorie burners!

    • @simonyu8838
      @simonyu8838 3 года назад +2

      Oh hey, it's a west coast version of me down to the Muay Thai and BJJ. In my experience, the untucked look really depends on the shirt and the pants to a lesser degree. Some button downs are too long to wear untucked, some too short to stay tucked comfortably. My normal rule is that if the shirt is too long to see at least an inch of the fly of the pants, it really should be tucked in. Both shirt length and the rise of the pants will play a role in this.

    What this guy is instructing men to do in this video is equivalent to wearing a suit vest with a white t-shirt Ed Norton Style.
