    Such great advice. No one talks about this absolute critical design element to a LS swap.

    Great info. I noticed this when I first started using the 6l80e. And went with a 3.73. Learned quick they don’t need all that gear.

      What’s your rpm’s at 70mph with your 3.73 gear. I was thinking in my truck to go from 3.42 stock to 3.73 at 70mph right now. It’s about 1800 maybe less and 2,000 at 80mph

    Thank you for the info. I have been struggling with the programming on my Jeep JK 8L90 swap. I also unfortunately have 5.13 and 37’s. Looks like a gear ratio change is my best option?

    thanks for this. I'm putting a 10 L 90 in my 2000 1500 sleeperado 5.3. I'll figureit out ,but, this info is good because I'm working with stock gears. not sure 3.55 3.73 i guess I should go look. but doing the swap anyway. thanks for your input. HP tuners all the way! DEPLORABILL

    What I did was first decided what MPH I wanted to run in the 1/4. I used that number along with max engine RPM and tire size to calculate the rear end ratio I'd need to do it in the gear most appropriate. With a 4l80e it has 4 gears but 3rd is 1:1 so you have to calculate things for that. I decided a 3:31 was right for me (26" tall tire) to support about 160mph or so. It's a tall gear but it's also nice to street drive with.

    I'm running 3.25 in my Ford 9in with the L83 6spd swapped camaro. Mitch. I used factory gear for the factory 15 camaro with the 6.2 6spd. They changed to 2.77 for the 6.2 8spd camaro.

    Based on my test’s in me L83 turbo Sierra 6l80e i kept 4.10 diff and compared it with same mods Sierra same boost but his diff 3.23 for roll racing i have big advantage from 60mph to 130-140mph which is the totally opposite what most of workshops told me they told me go low diff much better for boost 6l80e, in my opinion it’s all depends in correct calculations and what do you want from your truck roll racing or from dig and what whp in your truck, people saying turbo needs long gears what i see it’s depends when i shift for next gear at what rpm it will be the next shift and also TCM tuning plays big rule on that, now my project to switch my 6l80e to 10l80/90 and change shift point from 6000rpm to 7000rpm and keep 4.10 diff specially with only 570whp

    That first will definately chirp 33"s I am running a IH 304 700R4 D300 3.7.3 combo. I would swap mainly for the mid range gearing it's a lot of slush when mountain drives are needed for spans. Notably, the IH304 would use 160-180hp in that sense adding a lot of lag as it weighs in at 600lbs as is. The added 35 more pounds in this sense over the 700R4 would really cut down on parasitic transmission loss.

    Much appreciate the information very helpful. I’m running 373 gears in my 72 blazer 35” tires 6.2L L86 / 10l80e Tranmimmion. Your recommendation on gear size would be much appreciated. Correct shifting patterns and Fuel economy being my ultimate goal. Thanks Don

    Awesome video. Thanks Mitchell. On the advice of this video I changed the ring/pinion in my 88 Suburban with the 8L90 to a 3.08 and it made a huge difference. It struck a good balance between what TCM wanted to see and the horsepower and MPG. Great daily driver gear on 26" tall tires.
    The only issue I have now is that the trans lockup doesn't seem to let go until the last second when coming to a stop and causes a little bit of a lurch in the truck as it stops. Has anyone else had this issue in their 8L90 swaps? Is this expected behavior from this trans? If not, does anyone have a suggestion on what I should start looking at (my transmission knowledge is terrible)? I do have the torque converter control wire from the harness hooked up to the brake light switch in the truck to show the ECM/TCM 12v when I step on the brake.

    Anyone know when converting an 8l90 4wd to 2wd, are there 2 plugs or places that need drilled out at the end of the trans to let fluid lube the output shaft bushing? I know a 2wd 6l80 has 2 holes that allow fluid to lube the output shaft bushing. Thanks!

    Hi I have swapped a 6.2 l86 and 8l90e in my c10 . I used psi conversion for my standalone and PCM and TCM. the TCM goes to quick relearn but the system gets aborted and it my autel comes with this message: 1_ the engine stalled 2_ although the gear selector is in drive the transmission exhibt the characteristic of neutral gear.
    I have used Dexhp fluid. The transmission has less than 50k miles on it. Would you know why its doing that. I really appreciate you.

    RUclips isn't doing right with the video so I can't really watch it but to answer everyone's question, yes the 8L90 will fit any small/big Chevy engine, no matter if it's an old 5.7 or 7.4 or a new 5.3 or 8.1 engine. I'm wanting to swap one in an old 2001 2500HD with a (soon to be) swapped 7.4L and my only problem is finding a TCM or stand alone controller that can actually do that. Anybody got any suggestions?

      @guadalupedeleon185 Год назад

      I'm looking into doing something similar. Best thing I've found so far for an LT swap on a 5th gen is to run LS electronics on the LT block/heads. Delete the direct injection and run an LS style port injection manifold. You still get the aluminum block, forged crank and rods. Get forged pistons, cam and you got a solid bottom end. You can do a VVT delete as well or keep it. The LT heads are way better as well. Port them out and rebuild them. As far as transmission goes I'd probably just run the 6l80 since the 5th gens already come with them and the early LTs come with 6l80 transmissions.
