It's an awesome tool, a good investment too. In my case, instead of engineers trying to solve our industry transmission issues which are very obvious that never take care of, it's safe to say we can address the issues through this method. I bought a HPTuner and disassembled DOD, E85 because the virtual sensor kept creating a positive feed back loop making the truck run lean. Then I disassembled the slip between 1-4 and increased pressure. Truck runs amazing and the power is fantastic and always ready. Hiram, great video. Especially the computer corrections. Which PTC converter do you recommend? 6L90 version? Do you update to the latest GM cal before making TCM adjustments? Thank you for sharing. Just did a service on a 2017 5.3 6L90 with 100K miles. Never been serviced. Filter restricted. Small metal debris field in rear of lower section of pan (1/2 by 2") Trans still a little herky jerky so deleting the DOD and adjusting TC parameters is definitely needed.
Very informative video. You seem like a very intelligent transmission mechanic. My question to you is this. My transmission is doing fine so far at 45,000 miles. What can i do to my 2017 silverado 1500 6 speed tranny to prevent a future failure without taking it out of the truck or removing the DOD ?
i really hope you see this comment. i have a 2011 avalanche 5.3 6 speed so 6l80 trans. my issue is under quick acceleration (needing to get on freeway, or pass a car) i notice trans will "stutter, grind, and RPM will red line without shifting to next gear, unless i let off accelerator and then ease back into pedal, i also have 205k miles on the truck. im really hoping that a new TCM (trans valve body) will fix the issue. after watching this vid now has me concerned that i may need to take to trans shop for 1-3 clutch plates bad... idk yet havent dropped pan yet to look for metal. im just doing the research to fix this in a one and done.. i have heard these are known as GM throw aways. i fell i can rebuild the tcm valve body but if it exceeds that and is more internal trans issue then ill be forced to take to shop. 1 shop told me that it would be 4k minimum for new that i cant rebuild, mind you this was just over the phone he never drove it, looked at it, or put a computer to it.. please help point me in the right direction or message me and we can talk 1 on 1.. please i need help
With all the research I've done you definitely seem to have the most knowledge on these units. My one question is what changed between 2007-14 and the 15+? It seems that the 15+ 6l80s have the most problems. I just had to send my 13 Yukon to the shop and it has 261k miles on it Thanks
Engines are different. LS to an LT. The torque is different from one to the other. They're programmed different on Gen5 the torque converter comes on in first right before second gear and up while on the Gen4 is at 4th gear and up. Solenoids, pressure regulator, actuator feed limit and compensator feed valves become very busy because of the change in programming causing quicker wear than Gen4. And the added cooler bypass makes it worse.
@@AutomaticTransmission wow thank you. I have a question I have a 2014 GMC Yukon denali and a 2013 Chevy silverado. Would they both be Gen 4 transmission because the Yukon didn't change body styles until 2015.
His response makes sense. My dad has a 2012 silverado and had his 6L80 go out at 187k and I have a 2018 making a rattling noise at very low RPM now at 68k. These transmissions are junk.
I know this is an older video, but I am just now seeing it. I have a question I have a 2020 Yukon. I am having NO problems with the transmission. I just installed a Sure Cool STL010 bypass valve to prevent any future issues. I noticed the tranny fluid is pretty dark. Vehicle has 45k miles. What do you recommend I do to ensure this transmission stays healthy? I appreciate your time
AWESOME, your back. I'm in the automotive trade an I had learnt so much from your previous videos about transmissions! It's great to have you back!!!!! Also will these mods work on 6L90?
Great video and explanation! I have a question. Can lock up be turned off and pressures increased in 1-4 without the mods in HP tuning? Currently have 65k on mine and like to put off issues. DOD has been turned off do a while now. Thanks
Great video! Are you supposed to disable DOD without a DOD delete kit installed? I thought it you disable DOD without a delete kit that is causes problems. Can you clarify that some? And how does changing the slippage affect driving? Is it more abrupt or jerky feeling like shifts harder?

With a sudden moderate slam into what I believe is second gear ⚙️. Then drives like normal if still driving like say from parked to a main road where there are no stops. After stopping at stop. No forward movement. Unless light throttle is given ever quick but slow tapping of acceleration pedal will slowing moved forward. Engine light on but says fuel system code. Related to someone trying to steal gas. Damaged something. Not sure if it's related to drivability issue. Currently waiting for warranty process. The drivability issue came on suddenly. One week ago. Has 87000miles. Let me know what you think..

Your back sweet
long time no see, thanks
Thank you too, I had a little breather so I thought of you guys.
Been extremely busy lately.
Thanks for the great video!!
Do you use dexron 6 fluid after rebuilding transmission?
Or you choose another fluid?
Best regards.
Brother been missing your posts!!!
Does this tuning work good with say a healthy oem 6l80e?
i really hope you see this comment. i have a 2011 avalanche 5.3 6 speed so 6l80 trans. my issue is under quick acceleration (needing to get on freeway, or pass a car) i notice trans will "stutter, grind, and RPM will red line without shifting to next gear, unless i let off accelerator and then ease back into pedal, i also have 205k miles on the truck. im really hoping that a new TCM (trans valve body) will fix the issue. after watching this vid now has me concerned that i may need to take to trans shop for 1-3 clutch plates bad... idk yet havent dropped pan yet to look for metal. im just doing the research to fix this in a one and done.. i have heard these are known as GM throw aways. i fell i can rebuild the tcm valve body but if it exceeds that and is more internal trans issue then ill be forced to take to shop. 1 shop told me that it would be 4k minimum for new that i cant rebuild, mind you this was just over the phone he never drove it, looked at it, or put a computer to it.. please help point me in the right direction or message me and we can talk 1 on 1.. please i need help
I BE ALL DONE and HAVE a LOT of PIECES LEFT OVER, and PRAY KNOW ONE WOULD NOTICE
Lol
With all the research I've done you definitely seem to have the most knowledge on these units.
My one question is what changed between 2007-14 and the 15+? It seems that the 15+ 6l80s have the most problems.
I just had to send my 13 Yukon to the shop and it has 261k miles on it
Thanks
Engines are different. LS to an LT. The torque is different from one to the other. They're programmed different on Gen5 the torque converter comes on in first right before second gear and up while on the Gen4 is at 4th gear and up. Solenoids, pressure regulator, actuator feed limit and compensator feed valves become very busy because of the change in programming causing quicker wear than Gen4. And the added cooler bypass makes it worse.
u rebuilt yo transmission
Yes, 6L45E, 6L50E, 6L80E and 6L90E.
Hey sir I love your channel. I am working on a 40l80e. I am a dedicated professional rookie.
My question. The reverse band apply pen.
The atsg book recommence j38737 kent Moore tool do I really need this.
Is there an affordable.
As a man which tools , which specialty tools do I truly need to do the job right. Do you know of any cost-effective alternatives to the you spent more/Kent Moore tool line.

This great video. To this issue. I have shudder in downshift from 3 to 2 or from 2 to 1. I will follow your instructions regarding the hptuner. I hope this will solve my problem. I have a 2015 Tahoe 6l80 transmission. Using hptuner only will solve the problem ???
Love ur videos and u sharing ur knowledge! Need help up in wv is u know anyone dependable
@Automatic Transmission14 Silverado.. Truck wont go past 12 mph when cold... reverse is ok. What do you think 106k Valve body kit throw in a Jasper? What level scan tool do I need to sync the TCM? Never drove hard DoD was turned off... Engine will rev high vehicle speed 12mph..
So I just found you and your impressive with all yours explanations and details. Where are you located so that maybe I could use your service if I need or want to make upgrades as I'm into performance. Thnx Hiram
Hirams back!!!!! And I'm working on one of these!!!
Has a shudder
Typical 6L80 issue. Now you know how to tackle this issue.
Hello.
so wanted to see what you think.
2017 Chevrolet Express van extended.
6.0 I believe with 6l90e
When cold slowish goes in gear or moves forward.
Let me know what you think..
great info , thanks for input . where did You get bushing driver kit for these units ?
I just bought a 2013 Suburban 1500 4wd 5.3L. Can I use these exact tune specs on it or is this only for a replaced transmission with the new TransGo valves? Thanks
Great video. Have you worked with diablo predator tuners ? Because that's what I have and wondering if I could do the same thing?
