I am sitting in my garage right now with a beer and an 8L90 that averages about 215F on the road with about 55k on it built in 2021. New torque converter is coming and going through it with a fine tooth comb. When you mentioned the thermal cooler on the lines I wanted actually growl. Nothing wrong with it really but I also know that 500-600 for a check and new torque converter is way easier than a completerebuild of the whole thing when the torque converter goes and takes out everything else. Thanks so much for this video. 4k display in the garage above my workbench for the win!
Have you ever heard of unnecessarily hard 3-4 shifts on these 8L90s? It only occurs at low-medium throttle at around 2000-3500 rpm 3-4 shifts only. The 3-4 shift is way faster than it needs to be and all the other shifts seem normal. You can use GDS to learn the oncoming clutch for it and/or reset the whole thing and let it relearn which seems to help it until it learns back in few hundred miles. You can also lower the shift times with HP Tuners but it is no help it ignores it. So it appears to be controller related but then seems like it could be mechanical/hydraulic. The 3-4 shift isn't excessively hard but completely inconsistent with all the other shifts and you can see it on a log as well.
It'd likely be the 45678R (aka C5 clutch). Probably the solenoid, clutch reg valve or solenoid accumulator worn. Since you say that relearning it will help, but then it will eventually go back to being harsh, I'd have to believe it's a solenoid, valve, or hyd leak. These only adapt when they get hot, so if it adapts to a fluid leak after the fluid is hot (thin fluid, greater leaks), when it cools off and it doesn't leak as much, the shifts will be hard. Watch the VB video (OH part three). If you don't have a vacuum tester, I have a video up on how you can make one for a little over 100 bucks. It's good to know if you're dealing with a worn out valve body or if it's likely a solenoid. The solenoid is harder to test, since there's no good way to bench test it accurately.
I have a 2016 GMC Yukon same transmission with a problem from the first and second gear. 125k miles it slips when accelerating and coming to a stop what can might it be?
I looking to buy discontinued solenoid 24272278, any idea where I can buy one? New or used, I broke the connector on mine, anyone sell used parts? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Good stuff! The instructor is very knowledgeable and inspires confidence.
I would love to see you all do a tear down and rebuild of 10L90 GM next!
Great video, thank you.
good job thank you
Good job
Yo quiero ver una de esa con su controlador intg y sensores 👍💥

I’m guessing stator in the torque converter.
Is the 8L45 similar to this transmission ? Also , is it common for that pump drive gear to break? Good channel thanks!
When supplying air to C4 I get air coming out of C5 port is this normal?
what camera and app do you use for filming?

please Mr cameraman
focus ởn the parts that teacher discussing
I have 278k miles.on this trans.
Incredible. Any mods? What do you have it on?
8l90 is the worst transmission I have personally ever owned would never touch another vehicle with one in it
