Great video, Shane! The past year or so I've realised that I tend to react to situations far quicker than I need to, and allow the subsequent emotions to completely overrule not just my behaviour, but how I feel for the entire day afterwards. I've tried this, and similar methods of reasoning, because at the end of the day, what do I gain from having a negative reaction to something I can't control? If it's something I CAN control, I tend to put a perspective shift on my mindset and tell myself "This is how this situation can be SO much worse, but we're not there yet, so let's stop digging this hole", because self-sabotage is SO damn easy. If it's something I CAN'T control, I reason in the way you've mentioned, but I also remind myself that I'm not the centre of the universe and need to get a bit of a grip! It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's worked enough to become a default setting. Additionally: my blood pressure while driving now remains stable, and the car horn hasn't been used in ages 😂

Thanks so much, Lorna! Really appreciate it! :)
I wasn't sure who said it until I googled it just now, but Mark Twain's quote "Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured." came to mind! Its so easy to remember and keep it in mind when things are calm and happy. But getting into that habit of noticing when you're starting to spiral, well, it's still a work in progress for me to say the least! 😂
You've triggered a thought though with the can/can't control piece. I've only ever applied reframing to external siuations, but never to those situations where I'm giving myself a hard time for "falling short" of my expectations. I'm wondering what good might come from reframing those situations, too!
      Thanks for the prompt! :)

@@ShaneCarberry It's a good quote! Yeah, I'm far more likely to find myself in situations of internal conflicts (especially since making the career jump to art) so I've needed to become a tad more introspective and understand how to deal with those moments. I think it's easy to believe that it's more acceptable to be hard on ourselves, as opposed to how we react to external triggers, but they really require an equal amount of care and awareness. So yeah, glad this conversation has brought up dealing with the internal battles! Really enjoy your videos, they give me plenty to think about!
