It's mind blowing to me how many people never played shadow of mordor and don't truly understand how awesome this nemesis system is.

I just bought it yesterday and now i am into it.
I just started playing "Shadow of Mordor" and giving it a real chance. I didn't understand the hype or why the game was so critically acclaimed but now after really diving into it and understanding just how awesome the Nemesis system is I'm really excited for "Shadow of War".
Andrew Mefford It's what the developers called their game play system. It's basically the ranking of the uruks and how if they killed you they can rank up or battle eachother and rank up it really made the game a different experience for each individual who played.
Andrew Mefford all the "cutscenes" are actually fully contextual based on the nemesis system. the uruk that was at the top of the gate, for example, betrayed the player in Their personal game. the system creates a feeling of the army evolving with or without you. but the names, design, skillset, and voices of each enemy/ally are all random for each players game.
Andrew Mefford the nemesis system is basically a gameplay mechanic where you face Uruk enemies that are generated uniquely for each gameplay where your interactions with said Uruk enemies will effect the game and future storyline - each Uruk, or nemesis, has their own personality and will rise or fall in their respective social structures as the game progresses depending on how you face them - if you get killed, the nemesis that kills you will rise in rank and if you come face to face with it again, they will remember you - you can also gather intel on various nemesis groups and go through the Uruk ranks til you get to the main baddie you're facing - it's almost like you're playing a strategic chess game within an open world RPG - this is the best I can explain it, someone else can probably explain better, or you can check out videos of gameplay of the nemesis system. It is really awesome.
Shadow if Mordor is probably the most fun game I own and I have GTA, The Witcher and Red Dead. It definitely the best game about a movie ever. Nemesis system puts this game on another level and surprised other games haven't stolen the idea. Essentially if an enemy kills you in the game that character will remember he killed you and tell you about it each time you see him and will be promoted in the army and made more powerful. So if one enemy kills you many times they can be promoted to head of the army, but you can turn enemies in to spies who fight for you and you promote them by killing enemies that they replace.
The Craziest part is the them killing you applies even to the nameless mooks, the redshirts.
Say one of the nameless Archers got a lucky shot off on you when you were near death. This nameless no one you could normally stomp in under 10 seconds.
Well now he has recognition in Uruk society, HE GETS A NAME, and a personality and, provided the bottom tier isn't full or he kills one of the one that are, becomes an Officer, who could potentially rise to the highest rank and become your greatest enemy.
Think about that, a lowly mook who would normally have no relevance............elevated to greatest threat. How the hell no one else has tried to copy the Nemesis system is beyond me.
Bet you anything I load up this game and still see my Shadow of Mordor nemesis talking shit, looking like a garbage bag from how many times I've fucked him up..

Dominate him before killing him. That prevents any captain from coming back. Easier than cutting their head, which is a random animation.
Every game should have nemesis system. It's soooo good.
Shadow of War isn't canon. Talion is just a character for the games, he isn't from either the books or the movies. Celebrimbor is from the books but the story they've made for him in these games are unique and aren't canon either.

Well that kinda goes without saying. If Tolkien didn't write it, it ain't canon. Same reason War in the North isn't canon. But i would consider it semi canon (kinda like the hobbit, since most of the things that happened were somewhat accurate , it's just not "how" it happened and even uses different characters that weren't even in the book to begin with (Legolas and tauriel)

The complete and utter lore violations SHOULD be triggering me, but it's not because the games are just so damn good. People buying for the campaign story are going to be disappointed. People buying for the dynamic orc love/hate relationships on the other hand...
sometimes you just want to create "alternate" story... not to make things absurb or make money for free but because characters and theme is AMAZING
Silmarillion is best example of this (or with the name of you know Lord Of The Rings) because
1)Characters are simple to understand but also got very strong personalities.(wich is hard to combine... you can see what character wants to do by listening him for minute but also you can see his point to do... just not sauron especially in movie they reveal him ultimate evil and thats all)
2)Amazing world and races
3)Characters are not riding their horses to sun at sunset: In truth they are really tring hard and pushing their limits to success... sometimes they fight with eachother showing that its battle of many grays figthing each other and sometimes together aganist ultimate black.
When you got story like this its good idea to create alternate story line... I mean never hurts
The problem with LOTR isn't that they don't want to expand on middle earth stories, it's more that there is still rights issues/clashes between the studio and the Tolkien estate, the estate itself has never liked the LOTR or Hobbit films and they have in the past refused to give out the rights to do any other Middle Earth based story, and because studios don't have the book and other source material rights, we have not had any movies in that universe. Until the Tolkien estate okays it, we won't see anymore middle earth stuff until WB and New Line Cinema decides to remake LOTR or The Hobbit
In the future i would like to see Silmarilion though.
Dionizos666 Peter Jackson and the Tolkien estate have clashed for years over rights for Silmarilion, tbh, until the current head of the Tolkien estate dies or someone more sympathetic to the films becomes the head of the family so to speak, we likely will never see a Silmarilion or any other Tolkien material until then.

I can however see Christopher Tolkien's side. Warner Bros. skipped out on paying him ANY money for the worldwide success of the LOTR movies by using backroom Holywood deals to claim they never made a profit. If I was him i'd be salty as fuck and not give anyone the rights to his dad's work so some corporate shit can't screw him over again too.

And Shadow of Mordor was very challenging. Heck, if you kept dying to the same kind of Uurk over and over again, future Uurks would adapt their combat styles to get on even footing with you. LIke No chance(WHich kills you instantly if they down you) or combat master (WHich makes them immune to execution moves).

Greg I apprecaite that you don't really play alot of games but you still watch alot of this stuff for the fans and bring in people that do know about it to show insight! Great stuff all around!
There is a lot of lore in the Middle Earth books. I do agree that more movies should be made, but that won't happen until Christopher Tolkien dies since he is adamant about not having more films since he didn't like the ones made.

Greg, not sure of you would be able to do this but i think having different backgrounds would add a visual element that would boost the quality of your videos. like adding movie posters for you tv show and movie trailer reactions. and game covers or artwork for reactions like this.

The stories are out there. They are in book form though.
This all is supposed to takes place at the very least 3000 years before the events in Lord of the Rings (rewatch the prologue in Fellowship of the Ring for more details)

I was like why is Greg watching this as I hadn't seen the trailer and it's not a MAJOR game. But that was just awesome to watch with you guys and now I'm going to look this game up. I kinda liked the first one but my biggest problem was that Talion was wildly overpowered. Got boring. Was like Goku in the Karate Kid tournament.

Queen Bitch KaNoMiko In Shadow of Mordor Gollum is looking for the ring that Bilbo stole from him. At one point in the game you are tasked with following him and he is singing to himself how, "the ranger is a thief, just like bagginses" lol. So that kind of confirms that the game is set between the Hobbit and LotR.

It's not connected in any way, it's a game taking names from the trilogy and visuals but nothing about is remotely coherent to anything about Midde-Earth.
why the heck u watch this if you don't know anything about the game and Middle-Earth story ?
