Colton Swanson the developer confirmed it was god mode infinite arrows and executions on. He was already super high level. Naturally getting past the first gate of a fortress is hard

This is probably gonna get buried but maybe i can help with the story questions. In the novels the eye isn't really a thing they do say the phrase the "Eye of Sauron", but they merely mean how Sauron has influence all across the world. Its even implied he has a physical form in the world but he never appears, probably due to being severely weakened by not having the one ring. As you may know from the first game the Wraith is the one who forged the rings for Sauron ages ago. So the Ring of power you posses in the game is likely a new ring. Magical Rings give you power and Sauron had them all made so he could give them to the Rulers of Middle-Earth only to forge the One Ring which he put nearly all of his power into and it let him try and take control of all the Ring Bearers. Some of them, like Elrond, resisted his influence and still wears the Ring in the Books. It gives him power to keep his Kingdom alive. He has his people leave Middle Earth, because he knows once the One Ring is destroyed, his Ring will have no power which would mean the downfall of the Elves. Also that beast was a Dragon or something like it but not a FellBeast (Nazgul is another name for Ring Wraith/Black Rider). Went on a tangent but I hope that clears it up a little.
Ranar999 The flying thing is called a Drake. Basically a baby dragon that doesn't turn into a dragon.

The Channel CivilizationEx, does very good and summarized explanations of the lore and history of Middle Earth and beyond. Its a great alternative to reading thousands of pages from the various books.

yeah, just don't be too surprised if we see someone like Gandalf or Galadriel in there even if they weren't supposed to be there at the time. It likely is gonna say "fuck it" to the book/movie storyline for the sake of doing their own epic thing. Which is gonna make for one helluva game. I'm so excited!

Hi How You Doing His son never approved it. Christopher Tolkien is notorious for hating all of the adaptations of his father's work. He even views the movies as a blatant attempt to cash in on his fathers work. That's why he refuses to sell the movie/game rights for tge silmarillion. personally, Im just waiting for him to die so we can get some more sweet sweet content. They did work with Middle Earth Enterprises, but that means very little. They are fairly liberal with their use of the phrase "true to the lore". The game contradicts the lore in a lot of ways. That doesn't stop me from wanting to fly drakes and conquer forts with trolls though!

I think the dream would be a game like this, only based on the Peter Jackson movies, that are far superior to these games. Add to that a score by Howard Shore.

If shadow of mordor stayed on lore, then you wouldn't have cool gameplay. Relax a bit, i'm sure that tolkien doesn't take it as a insult and maybe praise. It's a fun place to take it.
For anyone wondering, Talion (the main character in this series) is non-canonical, and was NOT created by J.R.R. Tolkien. (Not that it matters).
Calebrimbor (the wraith guy) is from canon however. He created the three greatest of the 12 rings of power, aside from the "one ring", which Sauron created.

Technically it's a wyvern, but they call it a drake, which is a baby dragon.

One thing I didn't like about Smaug in The Hobbit movies, they made him a wyvern and not a dragon with 4 legs.

No such thing as a set frame or visual for what is considered a "dragon". For the simple reason that these kind of "dragons" are fictional the anatomy is ultimately decided by each creator/author.
Clarification, the set anatomy for a "dragon" depends on the universe it's based upon. A "dragon" in LOTR would be a wyvern in for example the witcher series. The term dragon however does not follow a universal rule.

I don't even need a traditional linear story if the open world mechanics and dynamic elements are done really well.
Mount and Blade: Warband is kind of like that, the second game is coming out later this year if the graphics seem a bit too dated.
4th* warband was the third in the series and technically bannerlord is a generation sequel, hence Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is its name

The rings: the elf lord Celebrimbor forged the rings of power given to the elves, men and dwarves. Sauron then made the One Ring to dominate the others and murdered Celebrimbor.
The ghost/spirit/wraith of Celebrimbor later bound himself to the recently murdered human soldier Talion bringing him/them back from the dead, they are collectively known as the grave-walker/bright-lord. Using Celebrimbor knowledge of the rings of power they make a new ring to hopefully rival the One Ring after the events of Shadow of Mordor.
Actually in this version, celebrimbor also created the one ring or as he puts it "perfected it"

Celebrimbor helped finish it here. It's creation is till only Sauron's achievement.
Celebrimbor's new ring would never rise above the ones he did for elves. However it's not like Sauron had ever found his own "I win" button again and elven ring should be leagues above any of the nine.

Why do people keep comparing this to No Man's Sky? They already came out with a game in this series that was a solid 7 or 7.5 out of ten, and this game looks like the first but with some new mechanics and similar gameplay. Even if it turns out to be the same game as the Shadow Of Mordor, remade with a new map and storyline it would still be several times better than No Man's Sky. I don't get the comparison at all.

7. Are you Nuts? The First one is Sensational. More like a 9. The DLC was phenomenal to. It was lots of critics Game of the Year and mine to.
sensational? the game was pretty good, but anything above 7 is giving it too much credit. considering the nemesis system is the only thing that gives it an identity (granted the nemesis system could of made the game a 9 if it had a little more focus on it and gave the player more to do in free roam).
the rather dull storyline and bland main character are just not good enough... the game also becomes far too easy mid game even if you turn the indicators off, the main bosses are a joke aswell (excluding the hammer who was pretty fun) and the final fight was literally just a quick time event!
The DLC was pretty beast tough, one of my favorites of the year, i'd give that an 8

Half those animations and movie scenes don't even happen in game.
Some are, some aren't. Like the sequence arround 9:23; that just never happens like that but most of the stuff does work just like they showed and with a bit of luck, you can have the same movie like sieges; it's not super common because the game does not script but the pieces are all there.

I think what makes people think it's a bad thing is that it should have been a free part of the game and their trying to make more $. But whatever.
The Steam version, if I remember correctly, said "includes in-app purchases" so I think we will be seeing some micro-transactions. The greed of video game producers is getting a bit too far.

Nazgûl are the 9 riders, the creature are called fellbeast and that's a dragon not a fellbeast. I think.
The reason that dragon has 2 legs instead of 4 is the design choices made in the hobbit movies. which is stupid, now it looks like a wyvern instead of an European dragon.

Drakes are smaller dragons and this creature was called a drake in the actual gameplay video.
Rein the dragons in the books and the movie like Smaug are either referred to as the great dragons or just dragons and they went by different shapes and sizes but drakes were cousins from the fire dragons and were smaller but could breath fire

You are but the important thing is that the higher ups learned their lesson. I paid 20 after they patched the micro transactions and would tripple that but as long as people buy it and spread the word, we could get a sequel that really hits home.

There trying to take some of parts of the lore into the story but you're right. They're really adding a lot of thinks. I mean, i've heard a lot of people hating about the Balrog in the announcement trailer. game is great and has no microtrans. They patched it out completely after 6 months.
I think it is ok to be skeptical of all of this due to No Mans Sky, but at the same time, this is a sequel. The Nemesis System worked amazingly in the first game. It kept players coming back to play more.
In No Mans Sky, they spoke of the tribes and the unique ships but never showed it to us. This game has the actual footage of riding dragons and illustrated the new and improved Nemesis system.
I high have almost no doubt that this game will be good. With that being said I am not pre-ordering, nor am I getting anything other than the standard edition. I advise everyone to do this.
I agree with you! I don't mind people being cynical though, but I also think its pretty rough comparing it to no mans sky already. Give it some time, it could turn out better or worse then NMS. I hope better, but we never know! I liked Shadow of Mordor and will surely watch this game closely before release

No Mans Sky is not some universal example of "promises" gone wrong... in fact, ALOT of people were criticial against it. and there were plenty of red flags.. but people became fanatical, forgetting conpletely that it was an indie-game with limited resources made by a Company that had never done anything like this

It's absolutely fine if you tell people not to preorder, it's generally a good rule. As long as you are not a dick about it. You can't imagine how often, and viciously, I was attacked and insulted simply for not hating preorders and saying I occasionally preorder too. And I also got often attacked for saying that, due to my own experience and opinion, I don't wait for reviews, and rarely watch/read them before buying a game. I just don't like that. And no, I am not the sole reason the Gamin World is shit.

Tbh - I though that this game was too little lotr and too much it's own thing and I honestly want them to tell their own story because they really don't need lotr and don't do enough with the rights. Like, orcs and humans? That's the most basic fantasy essentials (which Tolkien obviously helped defining) but I can not help the feeling that as someone that knows the Simarillion and the Lord of the Rings, the later obviously in book and movie version; these games are really not about the stories Tolkien tells. They don't really try to exist in the world as part of the world and I just hope that they let loose.

As the trailer said, "Open world" indeed.
Merely speculating here, perhaps the open world area is right outside the fortress, or perhaps you first need to conquer the fortress before being able to roam around.

If this is like the last game, the difficulty will drop like a rock as you level up. By the end of game one, you're a semi immortal killing machine. Game one had three god modes! Dagger, bow, and sword activate super mode. None of which I remembered to use, because the game was soo damn easy by that point. Early game is actually the most fun, as you struggle to survive.

Jack Mae Nah OP is right. There were some war chiefs that could be made difficult, but you had to go out of your way to do so. As soon as I entered Map 2, I never died to a war chief.

If this was answered already I apologize, but the timeline that this game and the prequel is set in between the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The ring that the ranger has is not "the one ring". At this point Bilbo has that ring and the ranger created a new ring in hopes to conquer Mordor.

Would be really cool if you could talk into a mic and start making a war speech and all the solders react to it and start screaming.
That'd be cool. Also to share soldiers with friends online or even have your army fight other player's armies.
Imagine For Honor combat but you build your armies like this and clash of clans type upgrading your fortress and sieging other friends castles and you travel with your armies sort of like mount and blade but graphics like shadow of mordor.

You do realize in the actual game you wont be able to execute everything all the time? This is a pretty early Alpha build and as such it was there to speed up the showcase

Elder Scrolls needs better writing and consequences for your actions. In Skyrim you can bè leader of every guild without any restriction and the NPCs still treats you like a random shmuck. And the Dragon villain is so flat and forgettable compared to Dagoth Ur from Morrowind.
The developpers said that in SoW you'll be able to cut off an arm of a captain and have a chance of him returning with a prosthetic.;-; so beautifull

It is SET in that time period, but I doubt it will follow the story to the letter. It's going its own way, which i think is awesome for them. Makes it much less restrictive and affords them far more freedom to do whatever the hell they want with gameplay and story. The New Ring already breaks the storyline we know, but I think it's great that they're going with this "alternate turn of events" kind of thing. Which means that we COULD get characters like Gandalf, Saruman, or Legolas appearing or even helping out, even if it they wouldn't be there at this point in time.
I'm not entriely sure if this is the case, but since they're introducing a new freakin Ring of Power, i think it's safe to assume that they're not following everything exactly.

If you were watching the health you'd see they had god mode enabled. They also had unlimited executions enabled, which was a combo move in the first game, typically meaning you could only do it every 6 or 8 consecutive strikes (IIRC). I expect this game to be much harder than the demo.
as for the easy combat, if you look to the bottom left of the screen, the take down button is constantly activated. which means for the purposes of the demo they gave the player infinite take downs. in the original game you had to build up your combos to get that, then after using it it went away until you built up your combo again. so dont worry, you wont be spamming the takedown over and over again making for easy kills. it was just to show off the game.
Kinda wish they added those cool animations like when that olog ripped that orcs head so awesome but i have never seen that happen..

one thing from this that doesn't happen in game, is that when you use your elf powers, and you see your ghost elf guy, it doesn't show the armor that you have on, like it does here, just the stock armor from the first game...

Literally this game was awesome and completely underrated. The only flaws were the story and micro transactions.
My best warchief was an Uruk named Douche the massive. I'm not joking I laughed for a solid 12 minutes and that laughed through the whole fight because the other Uruks kept chanting "DOUCHE DOUCHE DOUCHE"

If I had to guess, your powers are no longer so Wraith-based, but more Ring-based, which means that you could brand some like you see in the video, but they can break free of your spell, maybe because of Sauron's influence or something. Or maybe branding uriks isn;t as big in this game as recruiting them. Just speculation. I don't know, but I like how they can betray you. In the previous game, you branded some guy and they always remained yours, now it adds some spice to it.

This game looks insane. There's so much going on. Looks AMAZING.
I don't think Joe gets that the captains in the first game were randomly generated and are not independent unique characters that everyone faced.
He can hadle Sauron single-handedly, says the one getting owned my Olgoth more than any other player.
I can't view it as a Middle-earth or LotR game. But as a standalone free interpretation of lore - sure.
The only thing I'm concerned about that it will be really not as cool in the actual game - a lot of scripted moments and dumb AI moments, a lot of ways to exploit the fortress layout and make your way to the boss without encountering so many epic moments.
And also that this - is a scenario. It's not open world game we are shown here - this is a triggered quest scenario with rails and hard borders. If open world element would be any good is up for debate.
Personally, I have a huge "Dragon Age 2" vibe from this.

Okay i just watched the Stream of one of the Developers he confirmed amongst other things, this gonna be a long List guys !
UPDATE: I extended the list till 40 which i remembered since last night.
1. There are multiple areas which are unlocked trough the Conquering of the Castle which all are bigger then the previous maps in the first game with Mission and Side Quest for each Hub, and the World will change depending on the Overlord you put in place.
2. HE has confirmed that you will be able to save you're guys from Dying, when the big guy goes down in the regular game he will be able to be patched up and most likely depending on how tough he is will have to retreat or fight further.
3. You're Followers can be given the Role of a Bodyguard and can be called on like in the Boss Battle at anytime, or they will help you in the fight if they can see you and reach you. So if you're dude isn't standing next to you and isn't a Magician or Archer he wont be able to help so easily. Maybe some will throw axes i don't know.
4. The Betrayal will work in such a way that people can start to hate some actions you take, for example Uruk 1 hates Uruk 2 and you promoted Uruks 2 so Uruk 1 is so pissed of he joins the Dark Lord again. Other ways are you leaving them behind wounded on the battlefield or retreating without them.
5. Some Uruks will be without mind control and follow you out of either liking you or hating Sauron.
6. There are around 20 of these Fortresses from what i could tell.
7. Ring wraiths will be fought in game but from what i could tell only in Story they aren't a Thing in the normal world and always encountered trough Side Quest or Main Quests.
8. You're Fortress can be attacked and reclaimed
9. Drakes exist in the free world and can be used without restriction.
10. Every Uruks you have can be trained and Upgraded into different classes. There are two ways that could be done either making them a different class like turning a Beast Master into a Flame User OR upgrading a Beast Master into a sort of Beast Lord which can command bigger and better creatures, also upgrading his Gear is possible.
11. He has said since he was asked so many times that yes it was a goddamn god mode. There was infinite arrows health and Executions, also he was pretty much mid game so he had some pretty decent loot already. Oh and you know he didn't want to waste the 16 Minutes on some dude dying and tacking 16 Minutes to beat the first gate.
12. You're Fortress is improvable and the defenses are Changeable. You can recreate the entire Fortress of this Gameplay trailer, with the Oil the Drake and the Boulder Throwing Graug. A fully upgraded Castle will be much harder to take with much more Points and much more possible Warchiefs to defend the castle.
13. Talion will get his beard back. I personally liked him this more but many people asked for it.
14. Uruks weak to fire can die instantly like the Uruk in the Trailer and Uruks immune to it will be able to power trough and take part in the battle.
15. Wounds on the Uruks are a little more detailed, they aren't just three cuts and the same Burn Mark. If a guy gets killed by a dragon ad he comes back he will look pretty fucked up, a guy who got hit with the sword not so much.
16. Overlords can be taken over instead of completely out in the regular game. They didn't do this in the gameplay cause they wanted to show that you can promote you're own dude instead and they change it does to the world.
17. The Balrog is an In Game Enemy, I know no shit but some people thought he was gonna be some Object thats just in Cutscenes. He is not.
18. Talion will interact with his Uruks more, besides of giving them a pat on the back for good work like with the "Nice Shot" comment he will be able to get attached to Uruks. Urks can get attached to Uruks
19. Uruks no longer have to be grabbed to be tuned like its shown in the gameplay you can do so like with regular Uruks in the first game by holding B, but only after you weaken or terrify them enough.
20. Depending on the Difference of Power you're Uruks can pretty much take care of the battle for you if you want. If you send in a Level 50 Dude against a whole Castle of 10 they can be pretty much killed without harming a single hair on you're Uruks face.
21 and last one they have said the will do further Q&A in the following weeks so stay tuned.
22. The arena isn't done based upon a tribe from what i could tell. The guy from the Fir Tribe will have a fire arena but the guy with a flame axe will not have the same type of flame arena, he will have some exploding barrels he can throw at you for example.
23. You are able to insert and or take over any Warchief of a Castle before attacking it directly besides the overlord. This will make the fight much easier cause the big guns will be already at you're side giving you many advantage points each one can plant for you.
24. Uruks will have there own little personality traits like in the first one with a little more impact. An insane Uruks will be a pretty bad Overlord since he cant really plan a good defense and a coward can pretty much just grabbed or even run away at the sight of Talion. Also anybody who wants to have an Uruks with the name the Coward is pretty much doing so knowing there not getting much.
25. There are more Animals, no Word about how big and if they are tamable but they have said each Region has some different animals and some that are the same. For example the Ice Region has Frost Spider and Caragors while they Desert Region has the Crystal Snake and also Caragors.
26. Like show in the Trailer a Mount is summon able. Bigger creatures and Graug from what i recall can be unlocked.
27. Uruks and Talion can become nearly impossible to kill with many immunitys. There always will be SOME Weakness but near End game you and Uruks have so many immunity that you have to plan to be able to beat him. For example in the trailer Talion gets an Armor that makes him immune against poison so he literally can almost not be killed by a poison user.
28. Quick reminder for everyone Levels have been raised no word on how big but at the least to level 50 for Talion and the Uruks probably much higher since he was only about mid game so him being nearly at 50 wouldn't make much sense. And the fortresses can go up to around 300 since there was one in the gameplay which was at 259 !
29. There are different Types of Gear for EACH URUKS. So you have your normal, rare and Legendary and other types of Loot you can get from one Uruk tribe AND then another completely different Item Pool for the other Uruk Tribe. So a Necromancer has around 50 Items you can collect just from the Necromancers and your loot will get better the harder the Necromancer becomes,. And from a Beast Master a whole other r Item Pool is opened up !
30 This is fairly important since i have heard many people complain about this. The Difficulty. They have not only like i said played with Cheats, no they have played in the EASY DIFFICULTY. Yeah thats right this game has difficulty setting so you can expect quite a few challenges :)
31. If uruks are to powerful, you may not be able to brand them. If you do want them to be part of your army, you are going to have to shame them to lower their power until they are at your level, which then you can brand them.
Shunning uruks debrand them into enemies again.
32. The "Fight to the death" option when you dominate an enemy is where you make one Uruk challenge another in a death arena.
33. The more upgraded the fortress the more Warchiefs you can have in it, and you are able to tell the Warchief which part they should defend. For example a Sniper on a Tower will do a lot more then on the ground.
34. You have a Lance which is seen when riding the Caragor. And the Hammer which you use to bash that Uruks face in as real in game weapons which can be used for piercing and swiping enemy feet away to make them fall.
35. All stuff from the first game is included so stuff like leveling the Uruks, Free roam outside of the mission are included also.
36. The creatures have variation depending on the Region so a Graug inside a Snow Part will have fur for example.
37. Skill Tree will be much bigger seen examples are amongst other things. The Ability to "Pull" an enemy towards you instead of teleporting to him he will teleport to you. You can sprint faster and jump higher. Double Takedowns are a thing.
38. There will be a Store, and depending on the Region different Economy.
39. The appearance of the Loot and the Orc itself will change depending on the Area. For example a more fur based armor in the Snow setting.
40. As a quick reminder to many people since i am not sure everybody knows there now are Ice based attack and Enemys in the game.

Hey Joe You probably know this by know but you can take both your biggest nemesis and your biggest Ally from the first game into the next one so if you have a save with Olgoth Alive you can take him into the next game
What's crazy is that there will be a solar eclipse on the day Shadow of Mordor releases. If you don't believe me look it up. In Overland Park, KS I'm in the ideal spot to see the full eclipse.

Hey, just to clarify, Mike De Plater recently announced that there will be multiple difficulties to choose from, easy, medium, and hard. He confirmed this during the last monolith live stream when they were answering questions about Shadow of War. They also announced many other things as well.

Your point is invalid. I got hyped for the first one, I pre-ordered it, I bought the season pass, I was never disappointed. PC game optimized (except for some SLI/Crossfire issues QUICKLY SOLVED) and barely buggy.
Arkham Knight was a bit of a let down. The over reliance of the batmobile, the lack of good boss fights, and the whole Arkham Knight character just overtook the improvements made.

I recommend trying to get a copy of the first game on the new consoles if you can. A bunch of features were slimmed down on the 360 version and the texture pop in on showdowns was atrocious. If you loved the 360 version, the XOne, PS4 or PC versions will blow you away. :)

This was all explained in Shadow of Mordor. This takes place in between The Hobbit and the LOTR stories and it explains why Sauron was unable to take form and why he took over 60 years to build his army. Celebrimbor the elven lord is the one that forged the rings of power including the one ring. He forged them for Sauron when Sauron was deceiving him. Also in this new game you forge a new ring of power and that's why your powers are upped a ton from the first game. Celebrimbor is the Bright lord while Sauron is the Dark lord. And Sauron wanted Celebrimbor to side with him due to his power. And so did Saruman. This shows you the power of Celebrimbor.
