They didn't lie, the Rex Minifigure was exclusive to the Venator...at the time. Its like when a movie trailer says "in theatres only". It doesnt mean it'll stay like that forever, just that AT THAT TIME, it is in theatres only. Same situation here.
By that logic, companies can only pay you for a short amount of time, and then say they agreed to pay you AT THE TIME.

@@TigerstarRel And Lego has the right to do whatever. There is nothing that says they cannot release the parts in another set. The thing is that the figure is not sold. The parts are. And the parts are not exactly exclusive in any way. Even if the printing is rather exclusive. You basically pay for the parts that have unique printing. And Lego can sell those parts whenever and how many they want.

You know how easy it would be to simply buy a Venator and piece meal it. Sell all the bricks as 10c the piece and then the figure for 150-170. You would make a wopping profit. And this is a problem for Lego. Scalpers beware Lego is onto you.

I hope Lego makes this a trend. I mean we got the best Vader figure ever in a $15 mech and now we’ve got the fan favorite Rex in a $12 set. Adding cool and detailed figures to cheap sets would be a great way to make people happy
Me personally I like the older helmet mold better, but the new Vader helmet mode is cool too, just I prefer the older mainly for nostalgia

Lego has many times used "exclusive" to describe exclusive to a wave. They have done this going back before 2010 and in other lines, not just star wars. This isn't a new thing, they use exclusive to mean exclusive to the wave of sets. People just NOW getting upset at this are showing their bias that they never cared about lego doing the exact same thing for years.
This isn’t the first time an “exclusive” minifigure came out later in a cheaper set. Shadow troopers was supposed to be exclusive to the Tie-Crawler but a couple months later it came out in the imperial drop ship battle back.
morally dubious at worst, Lego did prey on people who would invest in the Venator set for the Rex figure, but those who just genuinely wanted the set still get a fantastic build and a still currently exclusive figure along with it, Besides the only people who were able to afford the venator set purely for the Rex figure were likely scalpers and heavy wallet 'Lego investors' with thousands of children watching their youtube content
I get why this is controversial but you still get a 5000 part build for you money with an a second figure and the brick

Unfortunate that the reseller market has such a stranglehold on the figure at the moment. Listings online at non-marked up prices are virtually nonexistent and lego’s site was backlogged with orders. I recently managed to strike gold at a Target and got the last one they had available, but I think there’ll be a drought of microfighters for the next few weeks to months.

Whoever thinks that the Rex minifigure should stay exclusive to the Venator is a joke. LEGO knows that not many people can afford such a high-priced set, so they did what’s best for everyone: Put it in a more affordable set.

Honestly, I have no problem with Lego releasing the same Rex in a microfighter. Unintentional though it may be, it spites all of those asses who were inflating the price secondhand. Additionally, as someone who’s been collecting since 2011 and missed the 2013 Rex, this is a massive W.
When I buy a set I see how much fun I could have with it or if I can use either the figure as a character or the parts for my own characters. But the build and how it can be used is the main factor for me

Problem is that these adults take away the joy for kids. If you want certain sets order them online. Don't loot the Brick&Mortar stores empty.

Honestly didn’t expect you to side with the MandR incel crowd on this one. Here we go, claiming that them putting a certain phrasing in the instruction booklet just isn’t legally or logically enough to justify that Lego outwardly lied. I think that they intentionally didn’t tell us about the micro fighter on purpose, but that begs the question of when do they ever do that? The whole “Lego lied” thing is surrounded by an air of entitlement that Lego owes you, an adult, of whom is not the target audience, anything whatsoever. People seem to forget that Lego is ultimately just a toy. A toy for kids and adults but still just a toy. Any kind of “collectability”, “resale value”, or “rarity” are all artificial things that you willing buy into. Lego does not owe it to “collectors” to make an exclusive minifig for them to put in a baggy in a drawer for years so that the value can increase.
I see what you're saying. I did come away with the opinion that this set was a good thing, I just wanted to give weight to LEGO's purposeful wording. I by no means sympathise with anything after market related and would rather not delve into that.

@@rascal3554 Scalpers make everything worse. First off they empty the shelves so they can resell at a higher price. Second the items they take obviously will never go on discount. Since the item isn't tanking on shelves to begin with. Thirdly, scalpers will sometimes even piece meal sets, taking out valuable items to resell them separately. For instance sell the figure for insane prices, and sell the rest of the set for "slightly less" while still maintaining a profit. Fourth thing would be that a scalper actually keeps the sets behind lock and keep in the closet, meaning he has 4/5 or even 6 of the larger sets in the hope to turnover these for profit down the line. But that way nobody gets to enjoy the toy. Since it is collecting dust, the box that is.
Lego has as main motto, only the best is good enough. This also includes being able to serve it's customers. And in particular children. And it seems like Lego is correcting this. By killing the secondhand greed that seeped into the community.
If you think that 9 months ago they knew that Rex would be in the microfighter, then you got mystical powers. My bet is that they saw what was happening to the market. And the Lego boardroom didn't like this one bit. Lego is not there to help scalpers get rich off minifigures. So they flooded the market with this microfighter set. I would do the same. And lego has been cracking down prior. With the goat. They know this kind of thing happens. And seems like Lego is finally really going after these people. In a legal way that is.

I bought the set and imma be honest, the ywing was actually fun to build for a small Lego set
I don't feel bad for wealhty collecters who bought the venator because of rex. I do feel bad for collectors who went and bought rex on bricklink for $50+ thinking that lego wouldn't release another one. To be honest, we should have expected this with lego. Spending that amount of money on a couple of onces of printed plastic is always going to be a risk. If you think this is the only time lego did something like this, you're wrong. It's not even the worst case of it. This situation just had a bunch of eyes on it so everyone was complaining about it.

I think this could be more due to incompetence/oversight than pure malice or manipulation for greater profit.
They did say it was going to be "exclusive" but if you buy a 650 set to sell a minifig for wayyy less than the original investment and think you're making money you're an idiot and you probably didn't work for the money you used to pay for it anyway.
The only people who find this a problem are to he scalpers and resellers. I dont see the issue you by lego especially UCS for the build the minifigures are just something extra unless the set itself is minifig scale.

All LEGO had to do is remove the bandage from the head, or not print what they did in the Venator's manual. LEGO already knew they were doing a Rex Y wing BEFORE they even started printing the manuals for the Venator.
Now people will think twice before scalping and people will be wary not to pay 50 bucks for a figure. I suspect that this is a good lesson.

Most of us are chill, There's just an incredibly toxic vocal minority, Mostly on youtube. And most are scalpers, Too.
Here is a LSW based metaphor that I thought of the other day that was a PERFECT example of what LEGO should have done.
When the Rogue One sets came out, the death troopers were only in the 90 dollar Krennic’s shuttle. Death troopers were awesome and tantalizing. They were in the box art, in all the trailers , and when the movie came out, they were one of the coolest things about it. And I wanted the figures so bad. But, they were in set whose 90 dollar price was a bit too much for 12 year old me and rare for my parents to purchase. If I had somehow acquired the funds, while I would be excited to get the shuttle, I would also be super hyped to be getting those death troopers. I wouldn’t be buying that set FOR the death troopers, but they would still be a major reason behind the purchase.
Fast forward to next year. And a fifteen dollar battle pack comes out with TWO death troopers. The same amount as in the shuttle. I was ecstatic. Those sick elite troopers were now mine to get. I got two of those battle packs and couldn’t be happier to get some death troopers. They were cheap, massible, and most importantly, still of high quality.
But you know what? Those death troopers were not the same as the ones in the shuttle. They used the same helmet mold, legs, and face, but the ones in the shuttle had different prints AND pauldrons. So, I was not, in fact, getting the same troopers as the shuttle. Yet I was still getting Death troopers.
This example proves that it is in fact possible for LEGO to include highly desirable characters in more expensive sets to help sell said sets while ALSO having widely available variants for those with thinner wallets. Seriously, not including the pauldron and having a different face print removes the controversy ENTIRELY from this scene.

Why would Lego put a different Rex in? There are two very well established versions of the death trooper, the death trooper specialist with the pauldron and web gear (Krennic's shuttle) and the regular death trooper(battle pack). There is only one version of phase 2 Rex, though. Lego removing the pauldron on Rex would be the stupidest thing since it's such a prominent part of Rex's design. The only even remotely reasonable change would be to give the microfighter one a different head, but it really isn't that big of a deal that it's the same figure as the UCS one.
