It was fun.
I think some special athletes have peculiar ways of motivating themselves and remaining competitive. AB is ridiculously talented and obviously works hard at it. That said, when he's on the field between the lines, it all seems to easy to him... he's on another level than his NFL opponents. I think his competitiveness and drive is genuine and admirable. Unfortunately, when things begin to feel that they come too easy, balancing a competitive edge is tricky. Some players become complacent. I AB's case, I think a lot of the way he seems to thrive on controversy and negative spin from the media and peers is a (subconscious) instrument for him to remain competitive. Even the change of scenery (move to Raiders), is an example of the "next step", the next challenge he needs to put himself in to prove to himself (and peers) that he's still the best.... a way of challenging himself.
It's unfortunate that it plays out like that (particularly to his Steelers teammates and fanbase), but he's not the first player to go down this road and won't be the last.
As a Saints fan, I see it with Drew Brees, who is outwardly one of the most highly competitive players ever. As accomplished as Drew is, he doesn't need to prove anything.. but don't tell him that. Drew has a much more healthy approach to remain competitive that I notice. He reveres his Coach (Payton) as a supreme authority figure, almost like a father figure. He doesn't have to at this point. But he maintains a degree of "did I do good, coach" and satisfaction from impressing Payton. That's the same mind games and drive that AB has, but just on a professionally healthy level.

If I’m a Mechanic for someone and they gave me a gift like wrench made of silver or a socket wrench made with jewels to look similar to a watches inside or just a simple wrench that maybe had a nice engraving I would hang it on the wall or display it somehow in my house. It doesn’t have to be solid gold or covered with jewels. Just being recognized for my hard work in a thoughtful and personal way means a lot. Why is it he should buy him a car or a house or just handing over a bunch of cash. Buying those that got him to where he is might deserve that kind of stuff. Like his mom and family that helped him get to his goal. Maybe a coach that spent extra time, or even friends that kept him focused and away from trouble. But a paid employee like a chef earns a paycheck as well as possible bonuses. If he was a head chef in a restaurant that has 50 locations, getting recognized over others proves your hard work and dedication paid off. They might give a plaque or certificate for it and it makes you want to work harder. Having a single employer/employee isn’t always as rewarding as some think. Yes, he works for someone famous and he might have an amazing income but it’s the gesture that matters. It shows that the chef is appreciated and that has a value in itself regardless of what the knife or its jewels might be worth. Thank you for recognizing the work people put into what they do. I hope you don’t let the comments that give you crap stop you from finding creative and personal ways to show people how much you appreciate them.
