    Thank you very much for this video. I pushed button in today & it stayed in. Would not pop back out. And I'm not the handiest guy with a volt meter but it doesn't matter with a video like this. You've made it so a toddler can figure this out. Thanks again

    I’ve searched for 2 days for how to turn this light on and off and I finally found ur video. I couldn’t find this button for nothing. I was pressing the tow haul button thinking that’s what moves the gear selector into drive and reverse etc. thanks a lot u saved me from a continuous headache

    Cleaning the switch contacts and connectors will sometimes correct this problem. A needle file and electrical contact spray should do it. File the male/female connections and spray/wipe the internal switch contacts.

    If your brake and ABS light stays on you can replace the ABS speed sensor in the top of the rear-end and it should fix it

    • @jtcrowder49
      @jtcrowder49  2 года назад

      Thanks for the tip. It has been replaced and made no difference. My suspicion is the abs module has failed because if the abs pump is plugged up it runs constantly.

    I have a 98 5.9 gasser that I'm having this issue with, I've gone through all the wiring and patched up the exposed wiring. I've token out the o/d button, clean both ends. I've Beefed up ground points and improved the electrical current flow. And I've even taken it the a shop to have it rebuilt with a proshift and tow package! NOTHING IS WORKING to get my dam o/d to turn back on and work

    • @jtcrowder49
      @jtcrowder49  Год назад +1

      I would trace the wire feed back to the PCM and, if you dare, try to short the pins at the next most opportune spot to get the signal. If you cannot get the O/D OFF light to go out you are not connected somewhere. If it doesnt work at the PCM harness, I would think the PCM could be bad or not the original one to the truck. Assuming all fuses are good.

    I bought an 03 2500 5.7l and it stays in od. When I click the button the light comes on to tell me od is off. Should I just keep it in od? I've already blew the original engine and I dont want this new one to take any more of a beating than is has to

      Overdrive is for cruising on the highway, saving gasoline consumption (Non-work mode).
      In-town driving preference would be overdrive off. Better response, less transmission hesitation.

    I feel dumb but I just got a 98 3500, what's the overdrive function on the transmissions for?

    • @jtcrowder49
      @jtcrowder49  2 года назад +1

      Overdrive refers to a gear ratio higher than 1:1. For example, the engine can turn 1 revolution and the tires can turn 2 revolutions (1:2). This lets you drive faster at lower engine speeds at the expense of torque. When you turn O/D off, the transmission will not shift into that gear. This results in higher engine speeds for the same highway speeds, but also allows you more torque.

      Adding a comment. When I pulled out the switch another plastic block was behind it. Mine slid out with the switch. Behind that second block is two loose wires. Apparently my two wires disengage that second block when I had my dash out while replacing HVAC. Recently those two wires must have started shorting out and my overdrive off light was coming on. After I drop the upper and lower plastic covers on steering column and pull those wires out a little further so I can realign everything with toothpicks I'll add another comment and let y'all know if it fixes my problem. It's the only way to put that spacer block back in and have the wires engage with the two holes. My switch tested fine.
