My dodge last year began shifing up and down radically around 30mph like an *sshole, and was fine throughout the Winter, but now its warm again, and when my tranny fluid reaches >180deg it acts up like an *ss! This is possibly the most useful video I have watched regarding my work truck in a LONG TIME! I will update if this fixes it!
Hell yeah brother! Mine just started the same thing, only after it gets warm, jumping around between im guessing 2&3 when just creepin thru town at that same 25-35 ish speed. Thanks a ton!!! 👍🏻
Wouldn't it be nice if the video showed WHERE the sensor is located? If people don't know HOW it's pretty safe to assume they also don't know WHERE. Location is kinda a need to know!
Just a heads up, if you do it with the engine running the transmission level will be lower. Just set the parking brake, which should have been done anyway.
My 05 Cummins won’t move, only code is p0483. Acts like it’s in neutral in D/R1/2/3. Idle doesn’t change when shifting, can’t really even feel it shifting or changing gears
I once had a p0483 code, my truck still drove but I lost my AC and the truck would over heat when towing. Some how the fan clutch wires got cut and the fan did not work. As far as the transmission, I always start with the cheapest fix first. Check the fluid level and make sure there is enough in there. While checking the fluid level notice the color. if it is dark brown (Dirty looking) could need fluid and filter change.
2002 ram 5.9 my transmission seems to slip out of gear when i slow down and turn. It also jerks into gear or slips while driving and changing gears...can you help?
I am assuming it is an automatic. Are you getting any codes? I would look at the easy things first. How is the transmission fluid level? Is the transmission fluid still a red color or is it a darker color brown? If so, you may need to change the fluid and filter. Also, you could try adjusting front bands. The front band adjustment can be done without removing the transmission oil pan (if it's a 48re) and is pretty easy to do. Finally if that doesn't work, it could be the pressure solenoid needs to be replaced. (not that hard to do, but you do have to take off the oil pan so it can be messy.).
I have spare trancase so I can take the speed sensor from that to see if that fixes the problem because had the same problems would shift fine 12 and 3 would jump out of gear or would go in. And the the speedometer will go funny after
Hopefully it works! By speedometer going funny, does it jump all around or does it just go to zero mph. Mine went to zero MPH and I changed the speed sensor located in the rear axle to fix that issue.
men!my transfer case explode too, today i have my dodge running again but 3 and 4 gear cannot work maybe i can test with this, thanks for help you follow you from argentina
So what you are saying is it will shift 1st to 2nd ok, and will not go into 3rd or 4th? Does your transmission fluid still look ok, is it still a red color?
@@LHHomestead thanks for your response, i really apprecciate it , yes that is the problem, transmission fluid is new but when i put the fluid the transfer case was not coupling , after move the gear of transfer case y was test everthing and work, but just in first and 2nd gear never take 3rd rpm move on but i have afraid to broke something, to clarify i come from a broken transfer case blow to pieces on the road and i dont know if the sensor is working thanks for your help, i will get out the pan oil and check i think ? i dont know how work the system valves or soleoid can broke after transfer case was broke, i lost a lot of time and money,in my country is very hard to get Mopar and Dodge parts, i am really sad i was rebuild all by my self. have a great day
@@fabricioagustinonboard4844 Also is your check engine light on? Do you have the ability to check to see if you have any fault codes? It could possibly be a bad shift solenoid. It is not that hard to replace, but you do have drain the transmission fluid because you have to take off the transmission pan.
Not exactly sure, could have been when I filmed it was cold out and I changed the sensor without running the truck. It was fairly new fluid because I had just installed the "new" used transmission.
@@LHHomestead anything past 2nd gear and it either is slipping so bad it's as if in neutral if your fluttering the fuel. Then once climbed into high rpms you can feel it engaged as if you are redlined in 1st. First I need to find a way to take out almost 2 quarts of fluid obviously. But it is throwing a code related to a sensor or the solenoid I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll let you know in just a bit which specifically. I'm praying it's not mechanical because I am in a desperate position in more ways then fingers to count. Iv got $75 to my name and lost my job the same week I was ordered to begin child support. My daughters are absolutely everything to me. Iv got two weeks to get a job and take a loss on my firebird that also gave up on me a couple months ago as well. I'm planning to try everything free I can in hopes of regaining at least 3rd. If not I'm preparing to drive to work and sleep in it somewhere near. And only go all the way home on the weekend until I can make something happen. Im mechanically inclined far more than the average person. I grew up poor and that's been one of my biggest blessings in disguise. But I'm not transmission specialist and only have a limited knowledge of how they function. Let's assume 3-4 need rebuilt. Or the metal shafts, gears, bearings etc. Iv only ever done new replacement swaps and mostly all were mechanical standards and didn't have multiple personality disorder from having 4 brains telling it what to do. Ah the good old days when things were simpler, mechanical and dumb. Believe it or not I'm not even 30 but much preferred things then.
@@LHHomestead I've always had a problem where sometimes it would not want to move in the morning, shut it off turn it back on put it into reverse then drive then it works fine. Eventually stopped moving whatsoever. We replaced some sensors, the transmission, pcm then the tipm. It fixed it for about 5 months.. now its back, but now a little different its also rough shifting.. had a shop look at it and he checked all the wires and it was all good.. maybe the pcm is bad again? But why.
Funny, mine has been doing the same thing. I have not gotten to diagnosing the problem yet. Mine started in November when the weather got cold. If I let it warm up for about 20 minutes it does not seem to do it, but if I don't let it warm up I have to put it in reverse drive back a few feet then it will engage in drive. Mine shifts ok after it going so I have not been to bothered by it. I will let you know when I fix the problem.
@@LHHomestead im honestly thinking the pcm and/or the tipm went bad again mainly the pcm.. I think either from the weather and/or heat from the engine bay or a short somewhere just causing it to go bad. I'm gonna try some things maybe you should try aswell, cleaning grounds and try doing a direct ground from the battery to the ground that the pcm connects to and maybe even try making a heat shield for the pcm if you end up getting a new one just in case
Not true. Every dodge I've owned lasts a long time and is easy to repair when needed. Every ford I've had has been a complete pile of crap. Hard and expensive to repair. Fords are basically disposable trash lol
Fords are garbage. Every single Ford I ever had was a shit box. GMC and dodge take significantly more of a beating before needing service in my experience. I won't run ford's in my business cuz they cost me money instead of helping me earn money.
I've got a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD. The only repairs I've done are normal wear items like tires, brakes, tie rod ends, lower and upper ball joints, wheel hub bearings etc. Nothing with the engine or transmission, it still has the original A/C Compressor, water pump, alternator, power steering pump, radiator, starter ect.
Ford really let me see u get there famous 5.4 triton garbage anywhere near what my 240 thousand mile 20 year old ram is at right now lol..between shooting spark plugs blowing headgaskets and breaking your plastic timing cover before even 100 thousand miles lol

Good point, if I could edit it, I would put it in there, but if you need to know it's towards the rear of the transmission on the drivers side.
Right above Trans mount
Much simpler than my description, lol.
