    If you have a Second gen dodge with shifting problems.. try this.. on yhe back of your alternator there is a wire that come out of the harness and runs over to your fender. If that wire gets too close to your alternator, it will cause interference with the voltage and screw with your transmission. Try and get it as far away from your alternaor as possible, and even better wrap it good with elecrtical tape, or the heating and ac tinfoil tape that has a rubber backing. You're welcome

      I’m going to have to try this after replacing my intake manifold on my 1999 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 V8 I noticed I was having shifting problems after hauling a refrigerator. My truck would not get into gear. I put some transmission fluid in and it started back driving good then, right down the street stopped again so now I’m trying to figure out what is the cause of this before I change the transmission. So I will definitely 👍🏾 try this too!

      Hell yea for sure my friend as I took off first gear would shift but I had to speed up to about 50 and let go off the gas in order for second to shift and when I was in the freeway I try passing someone at 70 mph passing gear would go in but it would not shift off passing gear it was crazy

      Mine was delayed shifting 1-2 and 2-3 and then somewhat hard downshifting when coming to a stop. I did a shotgun effort and got a 45rfe refurbished valve body and solenoid. Replaced both filters and still the same issue. Guess I'm stuck doing a rebuild of the pump and clutch rings, but Gotta find a mechanic for that one.

      I finally put it in the transmission shop down the street. They said the solenoid I bought and installed looked like it was high mileage and just cleaned up. They eventually rebuilt the trans, put another solenoid assembly, replaced fluid lines to the oil cooler, pump and $4000 later they got to the end of what they would do and pointing to the computer.
      Got the truck back, with issues that say is probably the computer putting it in fail safe mode.
      I ordered a computer, programmed for my VIN from car computers online. They said their computers are all resoldered with silver solder, rather than the factory lead. The lead ones, do to the engine compartment location, tended to have cold solder joints over time. Silver has a higher melt point.
      My grandson and I got it and swapped it over easily, ourselves. End result is it seems to be running okay, as far as the transmission goes. We had a water pump blow out on the highway, scary thing, but replaced the thermostat and water pump, radiator seemed okay, but my grandson said it's using fluid and temperature goes up over halfway. Guess I'm troubleshooting that next.

      2012 ram Replacement transmission today sounds alot better but won't shift now so they wanna put another one in and I feel like it's not the transmission it's something els but I don't know anything about cars fucking sucks

    I had a broken overdrive accumulator spring. It is common on Second gen rams. It is right inside the pan!

    i have 2006 dodge durango its not changing out of first .fluid is clean and there is no slipping also fluid level is good

    There is a 1'' dia spring that was broken on mine, where you worked but hidden under the valve body, It would not downshift going up hill when I d give it more gas. I also had a TV cable that would bind somtimes. There is another solenoid you didn t show. if your gonna do this clean the top of the transmission where the electrical connector is. Seems to me the problem was more little holes and filters clogging up the solenoids.

    I don't know if I will get a response but I hope so, any ideas would be appreciated.. I have a 2011 Ram Dakota 3.7 v6 that will not reverse. In drive it shifts fine, no other apparent issues, but when I put in reverse, I can hear it shift into gear I think, but when I hit the gas, it revs like it is in neutral. Only thing I have done that might have caused it was pressure wash the undercarriage a little bit.

    Having an issue with my 2001 dodge ram 2500 I got no reverse mechanic told me we have to drop the transmission to replace the reverse servo then someone told me all I have to do is drop the pan and replace it from there...any advice??

    The 99 Dodge Ram I have it's a really good truck it was given to me by a family member. Little over 200k and some thousand miles on it I've been going at it for a year and a half trying to get this thing right. It's a Strong transmission the fluid be like a charcoal color but no shades of metal or anything light smell not bad. I just don't know why when I erase the codes after replacing everything in the transmission and then erase the codes and show that's nothing going on with the vehicle anymore. Then when I goes to drive it it gives me that slippage kick feel stall cut off yesterday. I pretty much just parked it in my backyard because I'm done with the truck. I have a little experience on working on my own Vehicles because shops are here these days are very high and scamming.

    I have an 05 Dakota with the 4.7 L engine. One day the transmission went into limp mode. Took it to a transmission shop, and he replaced the shift solenoid. That fixed it for one day. I took it to another shop that could hook it up to the computer, and he said it was a shift solenoid! When I told him that it had just been replaced, he suggested that I replace the transmission. I did as he suggested and authorized the work. That lasted two days. He then replace the solenoid, which lasted one more day. He then replace the transmission again, and then swapped out the ECM twice. That worked for two days. I took it back and told him that it must be an electrical problem, and am unsure what he did that time, but it worked for almost a year. The truck just slipped into limp mode again today. I was able to make it home, but wonder what he did to repair it. I asked, but he said he change the shift solenoid again. Any ideas what he might have done to the electrical to make it work?

      @@hankmoody6996 found out he chased all the ground punts in the truck and cleaned and reattached them. It had a faulty ground contact somewhere, I believe on the firewall near the computer. Been working great since…

    Always use lucas transmission additive, or stop slip. These will keep any transmission running

      Additives like Lucus is bad because it will clog the holes and keep it from draining back into the system causing it to starve and you will be without a transmission for sure..

      Michael your full of it .. there is no holes small enough to be plugged by fluid .. what you mean to say is the additional additives could break lose the carbon deposits and clutch disk debris those could clog solinoids and valves ect .. lucus has not much to do with contamination already in the transmission...

    I have a problem with my 2007 dodge ram 2500 cummins 48re auto trans. When I pull out in first the trans slips a little and goes to 2500 or higher also won't shift but when you let off the throttle it will. It is only 1rst to 2nd Also when going up a hill if it is in second gear going 2000 it will hard downshift into first going 3000 rpms.

    My dodge does it intermittently. No warning lights on at all. No leaks at all. Revs but doesn't shift past 2nd or 3rd.

    I really liked your video it was straight forward you did explain how many bolts and screws and what size they are . However you didn't mention how much to torque the transmission pan bolts down and did you reuse the original transmission pan gasket or replace it
    I've got to do this same job. And I believe I can get it done with enough information.

      I just did this and re used the original oil pan gasket. Has not leaked a drop. The original is way better quality than what comes in the new kits

      Did you use any RTV ? I bought my truck used and the previous owner rebuilt the transmission himself in his garage. I'm sure I may need a new transmission gasket.

    My 2001 dodge Dakota is parked for now was falling into neutral out of drive from 40mph and having issues getting over 20mph fluid is good and all but. It's my first vehicle with 276k miles on it engine has only been rebuilt.

    My brother n law has a 2000 Dakota 4x4 that’s had 3 transmissions swapped out and it’s still not shifting properly, won’t downshift to first or go into overdrive. He parked it.

      My dad is on is 4t transmission from the yonkyard on is 04 dodge caravan they last about a year 😂 they are is just bad engineering such a small transmission for a 8 person's car, no way it can handle the load for too long

      I want an update. Did you try this because I have a 1999 Dodge ram 5.2 and I’m struggling because my fluid is very dark and my mechanic is saying that I need to change my transmission but I think if I change the solenoid I should be able to drive it for a while longer and then change the transmission.

    I have a 2006 dodge ram 2500 the issue is that after the teuck reaches normal temperature the transmission starts to shift up and down and sometimes it gets stuck in 3rd gear. But i turn it off starts shifting normal. Any idea what could it be? Transmission was rebuilt but still has the same issue

      this solenoid is the same issue we were having super easy to replace often transmission rebuilders don’t replace all them pull codes first i bet you it has one even if the engine light isn’t on

    Hey John, I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 cummins 4x4. It throws a P0868 low pressure code After reaching over 50-55mph then goes into limp mode. I reset the code and then runs back to normal and again. It has the ABS/BRAKE Light on After I reset codes the abs/brake light turns on after reaching over approximately 20mph. Then the P0868 code triggers. I have to reset codes to get the truck off of LIMP MODE. Im LOST 🤦🏽‍♂️😞

    i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 we had to do some repairs on it and it was driving fine then one day it was showing issues . i would drive it and it would be fine then i would go to press on the gas and the RPMS would rise but truck MPH wouldnt and she wouldnt shift . we would get out and check the plug on trans turn truck off and restart and it would drive fine for a bit then go back to high RPMS and no shifting or accelerating . we replaced some weird solenoid on a metal bracket and a plug the bracket has 2 solenoids on it . truck runs and sounds great except ....i dont think its shifting into 4th gear . any ideas ? trans fluid is clean not burnt and full.

    My 2007 Charger so.etimes revs high in between shifting. Then it runs fine. If I let it warm up at times it runs fine. But if I just start it a go at times it revs high before if shifts. Thanks

    Hey for some reason my 2020 challenger sxt 3.6 v6 when I press gas it's really sluggish and lags bad and sometime while I do it the rpm on dash goes up and flunct badly and the car jerks when it shifting its a automatic and everything is stock. I don't know what's going wrong please let me know something repair guy I hoping the transmission not going bad on it. And it's no lights on the dash at all. I had tried even using fuel system cleaner still same issues.

    Maybe you know the answer to this unique issue I have on my 2005 Dodge Ram 5.9 Cummins automatic w/overdrive transmission? 196,000 miles.
    It's the original transmission and motor. All fluids/oils and filters regularly changed and kept clean/new. Not used to tow often...4-5 times a year at most and 8,000 lb loads at most.
    I've asked 4 tranny shops and a few forums and Facebook groups but no luck finding same problem or proper fix. I'm wondering if I'm just that special?!?? Lol
    One mild Fall day last year I had driven 260 miles on interstate at about 75-80 mph. It began slowly reducing speed over 6 miles from 80 to 15mph. Moving fuel pedal would not do anything but make it stumble a little a couple dozen RPMs up or down. Stopping and restarting it immediately did not help nor did changing gears manually.
    All fluids were fine, not too hot and no burning of anything fluid or conduit wire was observed. All looked good under and above it.
    I stopped it for 30 minutes as I checked it over. It would drive normally after that, but it would only go 25-30 miles before it would slowly slow down again as described above. I did this over many cycles all the way home 260 miles. I'd turn it off and on again, completely off as it rested for 25 minutes. The batteries seemed to be getting charged (started well each time) and no warning lights were on. Once or twice, when I drove it until it would not even crawl anymore (1-2 mph, I was testing it), it stalled. So it wasn't hard starting or hard-stalling unless I took it all the way down to 1-2 mph speed. It was not idling weird either.
    Could this be an electrical ground failure or electronic issue? If I had a battery connection loose or anything disrupting the flow could it cause this? It seems like something is getting tired and needing to cool down or something but nothing was overly hot or smoking. What's weird to me is it's not slipping in the usual way of revving up but not moving. It would usually get no lower than idle.
    Tranny shops haven't heard of this before. No transmission codes either. They want to charge me $3,000+ for new or rebuilt tranny. I want to rule out wiring and electronics (that don't throw codes) first.
    Any suggestions? Heard of this ever before for an automatic transmission?

      Never have I heard of that I would do some trouble shooting with a scan tool and make sure it’s trans related it sounds like a headache lol

But I'd suspect the governor pressure solenoid and go with a PPS deep oil pan change the metal transmission cooler lines to rubber from Power Driven Diesel is what we did here.. nite and day difference..

    Answer me this. I have a 2006 dodge Dakota 3.7 liter 2wd and I bought the truck and it didn’t have reverse but it had drive it goes into every gear but like it would just rev up and wouldn’t go anywhere now it’s the opposite it has reverse goes into every gear still but when you put it in drive it just revs up won’t go anywhere

    50% of the time my charger wont go into 2nd gear it just shoot up to high rpms until it eventually goes into 2nd then the same things happen to the next gear up. its automatic btw. can u give me an idea of whats going on please?. Will a transmission fluid replacement or flush help or fix the issue?.

      Trans flush may help but it’s slipping maybe get some trans medic from OReilly’s and put in there may help

    I was told at AutoZone that it's cheaper if i don't have a govern and higher if i do. How do i know if i have a govern if i can't drive as fast due to the silonoid

    I have a automatic 2001 Dodge dakota and the only way for me to go faster than 25 miles a hour is putting it in 2 instead of D, I know it's bad, but it's the only way I can go anywhere. Anyone know what is wrong?

    My 2005 diesel ram I will have to let off the fuel for it to shift most time and it may downshift after. Early mornings it sometimes has to warm up beat takes off … filter need changing or solenoid ?

    I have a dodge jurney sxt 3,6 automatic and it's stucked in 3rd gear. I have changed the solenoid pack and the shifting solenoid it was costly. I also did a service on my transmission but the car is still stuck in 3rd gear need advice 😢

    Had my 46re transmission rebuilt had it in for about two months or so now when I'm in drive and stop at a red light it just revs up if I shift down to first and go back up to drive it does fine until I come to another stop light or stop sign I got to pull it back down to first and shift first second to drive is that caused by a bad solenoid or something

    My 99 Dodge Dakota has a hard time getting past 2nd gear. Now I can’t drive a few blocks before I lose reverse drive 1&2.
    Bad pump or need I need a new filter/fluid?

    Okay my car is throwing no codes but it won't go past 25 miles an hour unless I go down a hill and it goes past 35 and then it's just no problem is it possibly the shift solenoid I just got done changing the torque converter because I feel like that would be something that wouldn't have a code and possibly make it go into limp mode if it's bad but that wasn't it and since it's throwing no codes I have no idea what the problem could be your advice would be very much appreciated because it look like you know what you're doing

    I have a 2012 journey 3.6 awd. just out of nowhere it will not shift out if 3rd only way to get up to 55 is have it at 5500 rmp..diagnostics machine tells me it the 2nd and the 5th gear ratio..
    So I had all speed sensors changed filter and new fluid still won't shift..let me correct this it acts normal for the first 5 mins of driving in the morning when its cold..
    Any help would be very much greatly appreciated

    mine is a 2004 and it shifts fine unless i put it into reverse first time after start up. i have to let it sit in neutral for about 20 seconds then after that its fine until i drive it again.ive done a few flushes but hasnt helped. i was thinking transmission pump? maybe?

      Go to Oreily’s or auto zone & get a code reading! If the tcm code pops up then that’s your solenoid!

    Good video. My 2006 5.9 mega (automatic) hesitates from 1st to 2nd but when I let off the gas it shifts fine the rest of the gears. Do you think it's the solenoid?

      @@RightOnJohn383 I have the code po0753 it's in an 02 Dodge Durango 5.9 two wheel drive, it stays in third great when put it in drive, you can downshift to second but that and reverse is all she has. The po0753 code indicated a shift solenoid problem

    I have a 05 dodge 1500 hemi. And it will randomly downshift and get stuck in drive, and will stay there unless I shut it off for 10 or 15 seconds then will shift fine until it gets stuck again? Sometimes does it 5 times a day somedays 25, think this solenoid will help?

    I'm also thinking that the solenoid I got for my truck it was new but no good for my truck because I order it off Amazon and its say it's a Direct Fit for my vehicle. I'm thinking it's a BS part. First time I change my transmission fluid it was okay when I placed the governor's sensor in. I changed the transfer case fluid as well. This time I didn't change it because it was hard to take the bolt off.

    I think my transmission is stuck in 3rd gear or whatever gear, I will get on the gas and go to 40mph before it shifts, will not get up to speed quickly without slipping a ton 5.9L magnum with the 46RE transmission

    I’ll subscribe if you could please give me your opinion on this…. 06 Dodge Charger SE Transmission will not shift at all goes through the normal PRNDL also can be driven 55-60mph just the rpms will keep raising when accelerating also when you let go off the gas doesn’t even downshift…. Someone said clogged trans filter/flush another said a stuck solenoid then someone mentioned either 02 sensor or the TCU needs replaced if that don’t work TRANS IS SHOT COMPLETELY.

      Sounds like smoked clutches probably needs a rebuild
